Hi all.
NOTE: This is a cross-post from 'Java Programming'.
Is there any possibility to invoke 'Tooltip' in 'MS Excel- cells' using Java/JavaScript Coding?
If so, how can we implement the same?
Thanks in advance all.

Consult the docs of the API you're using. We can't say much about it because you didn't even mention the API used and it is also not recognizeable as part of any standard Sun Java API's. It might help to consult their own forum/mailinglist -if any- as well.

  • Possible deadlocks with in-memory database using Java

I've written a completely in-memory database using the Java API on BDB 4.6 and 4.7 for Windows and Linux (x86). The completely in-memory database means the database content and logs are entirely in-memory and the overflow pages will not be written to a disk file.
The database environment and the database are configured to be transactional. All database access methods are specified to be auto-commit by setting the transaction argument to null. The environment is configured to be multi-threaded (which is the default when using the Java API).
When run with a single-threaded client, the application works correctly on both Windows and Linux for BDB 4.6 and 4.7.
When run with a multi-thread client that uses two thread for the database access, I run into a deadlock inside the call to the Database.delete method about half the time.
I am assuming that in the "auto-commit" mode, a deadlock should not be possible.
Any reported problems with using Java with in-memory database?
    Thanks.
    Hisur

    Hi Hisur,
If you are using transactions and multiple threads, you will have to deal with deadlock. In this particular case, it's likely that a delete is causing two btree pages to be merged (called a "reverse split"). Auto-commit makes no difference in this case -- the application must retry the operation.

  • Is it possible to run dos-command's in java?

I have a small security problem. I have a dos-based java prog. with login at the start og the program, but I have problems hiding the password. I have managed to hide the password when it is typed, but when you press enter and get to the next menu, it is only to press the up-key, and dos recover the last typed sentence. (The password...) I have been able to fine the dos-command "doskey /reinstall", which will clear the memory, but I haven't been able to implemet this in my java-prog.
    Any tips/trics are appreciated.

I doubt that calling that in your program would help.
doskey is specific to the process. Running it by any means in java means that a new process will exist. You can verify this by open two console windows and running doskey in both. Nothing that you do in one will be reflected in the other.
I don't think your problem is a program problem. That means that it should not be solved by software but rather by management. For example you certainly wouldn't expect your program to make sure that someone wasn't standing behind the user when they typed their password right? And what if someone installs a key grabber on the computer? In that case any program, yours included, would have all the key presses logged to a file.
Alternatively if you might be able to solve it with one of the following...
    - Recode the application to use a GUI. If there is no console the doskey isn't going to get anything.
    - Write some JNI that bypasses the java input handling. If you handle the input directly then you can turn off echo
    - Inspect the java source code for the VM. There might be a hidden method to turn echo off. Alternatively you can find the code responsible for this, modify them, and use them with the bootclass option to replace the ones in the VM. This solution is not distributable. And it might not be possible solely using java.

  • Line chart - possible to have an unbroken line through NULL values?

    Hi,
I have a line chart. In the middle of my data are a few missing (NULL) values.

    Hi Matt,
    Use this.
But if you don't want to display the date which has null value, we can do that too.

  • How to process Excel through JDBC

    Hi, there!
In windows,we could build an ODBC Driver for excel, then how to write the sql statment to query and update the content of the excel through JdbcOdbcDriver?
I have create an ODBC DataSource named Register, the excel file is RegisterInfo.xls and the name of the sheet that My data was stored in is RegisterInfo,How should I do?
    Thanks a lot.

Your JDBC driver class is sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
The connection URL is jdbc:odbc:<name of your DSN>
(I'm not sure how you would treat spaces in the DSN name, so I'd leave them out)
    To see the data
    SELECT * FROM "RegisterInfo$"
Don't forget the quotes around the table name, because I'm not sure if the $ at the end isn't somehow interpreted. If you have spaces in the table name (=Worksheet) you need them anyway. The same goes for any columns that have a space in their name.

  • Reading Excel data through java servlets

I am doing a project in jsp and servlet. During the project i have to read some excel data from the excel sheet and store them to DB2 database. While reading from the data from the excel sheet a problem occurred. I have used the poi package to read the data from the excel sheet and the code is correct and it reads the excel sheet. Now i just displayed the number of rows and cells in the excel sheet and while displaying the value of the every cell, the servlet displays only the address of each cell instead of displaying the value. Here i am attaching the code that i have used and the output of the servlet.
One more thing that i have noticed here is i just wrote a simple java program to read the excel data using the same steps that used earlier in the servlet. In this case the program displays the actual value of the excel cell.
Could you please help me to solve the problem.

    Nihath

    Hello Nihath,
As per your description, you have to read each and every items in list with column value then only you can generate excel. There is direct way to export datatable to excel but in your case you will also need to iterate Col3 value to create new row in excel.
I would suggest to use CAML query to get all items then check Col3 value. If there are multiple value then add them as new datatable row and finally export full datatable to excel.
    Here is link for CAML:

    Export datatable to excel:

Finally add this feature in ribbon:
