Is it possible to make a modal window resizable?
I am not sure that I have the best way to create modal windows in the first place.
I have a TitleWindow which is hidden, and when I want to display it I make it visible and add it to thePopUpManager.
For example here I have an "importing" window which is visible while the application imports some stuff:

How would it be possible for this window to be resizable?
If not through the TitleWindow, is there any other way to have a resizable window within the application? (i know the application window can be resizable, but what about windows within the application?)

Yes, but not as easily as you can make a normal window resizeable (AFAIK). You would need to handle it all yourself by adding a resize area with listeners, etc.

Is it possible to make the document window not to hide behind the palettes (layers, paths etc) like in CS5? For instance if I want to make a correction in the right part of the image and zoom in, the window expand under the different palettes and I can no longer see the area which I want to correct without change the document window size. Generally, you shouldn't need to zoom; you can pre-set the display of message text.
To get straight to the point, you should probably try the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ add-on to address issues with the size of the message list font.

Why is it no longer possible to make the download window close automatically after downloading is finished ?

Firefox now manages the downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History > Downloads) and download are treated as history items.

So you open the Library if you inspect all downloads and this Library window doesn't close automatically.
When a download is in progress then you see a download progress (timer) bar on the Navigation Toolbar instead of the Download Manager button and that button is highlighted once the download has finished to make you aware the their are new downloads.
You can view the new Download Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page and consider to open this page in a separate window.
You can set the Boolean pref browser.download.useToolkitUI to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to restore the classic Download Manager window and make all download settings appear in "Tools > Options > General".

In iCal and Notifications on a notebook, is it possible to expand the notes window to make it easier to read and write notes? In the past, I have used Outlook calendar and tasks and I was able to expand the windows which allowed me to put a great amount of details into either the notes section in events and tasks. It would be great to be able to do this in iCal and Notifications as well. I am using a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.8. Thank you very much for assistance with this.

Is it possible to make a partition in Windows 7 and then place OS X on that partition?

My employer just gave me a new MBP 13" with Windows 7 on it. It has bootcamp running, but no option to boot in Mac OS. IT dept. said they deleted Mac OSX Lion due to security concerns (?). In any case, as I travel quite a bit and have and ipad and iphone, I would like to use Mac OSX for personal use and Windows 7 for work.
Is it possible to make a partition in Windows 7 and then place Mac OSX Lion on the partition so that I do not need to reinstall Windows? I know it would be possible to wipe the HDD and then add Mac OS, then bootcamp, then Windows 7, but adding again would get my IT dept involved which would put me back to square one.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Ok let me ask you IF the IT department of your workplace does NOT want OS X installed on "THEIR" (The Companies) computers because of what they think is some type of security issue why are you trying to go against their wishes and install OS X on a computer that is NOT owned by you.
That could cost you your job.
If you continue down this path you will screw up the Windows install and have to take the system back to the IT department to get it fixed. What do you think they will say at that point?
Do as you like but you would be better off just buying your own Mac computer if you are set on using OS X as your personal operating system.

FM9: Possible to make "fit window to page" the default?

I'm using FM9, structured, on Windows 7. (My company recently upgraded from FM7.0.) In FM 7.0, my documents seemed to remember the last zoom I had set, and if I saved them having set "Fit Window to Page", the next time I opened the document that setting would be in effect.
This doesn't seem to be the case with FM9. Every time I open a document, its window fills the screen, and I need to manually fit the page to my preferred zoom (100 or 90%) from the Zoom status bar menu. There are a lot of options for tweaking preferences for windows - I have not selected to open documents as tabs, for example - and I wonder whether a preference setting is preventing the fit window to page setting from being remembered per document, or whether there is any other way I can make that the default for opening documents.

Still struggling with this, and the possible confounding factors, like differnet interface preference settings. Some online research I've done seems to point to this being a problem in FM9, that is, setting a default zoom and fit for all documents. There are some third-party plugins that say they can do this... but not for FM9. So maybe the answer is "upgrade to FM 10", but that isn't an option for my department at this time.
Further symptoms:
- If I open all chapters in a book together in a single tabbed window, and explicitly set the first document to Fit Window to Page, I get what I want for that document, but as soon as I choose another chapter in anotehr tab, the window widens (I show a single page only), leaving a lot of gray empty window space. I can explicitly set THAT document to Fit Window to Page, but when I click back on the first chapter I was working on, it opens wide; it has lost the Fit Window to Page I originally set for it. Working that way, any time I change tabs, and frequently when I do operations like changing the conditional text that shows, the window containing all the tabs widens. I would like to prevent that if possible.
- Even when working on individual chapters, if I set one to Fit Window to Page (a setting that held, if I subsequently saved the document, in FM7) the setting is not (consistently, it seems) remembered, and the next time I open the single chapter, the window opens wide, or maximized (23" wide monitor) as if it is trying to give me a two-page view, but I'm only working with one page views (my preference because it's what I'm used to).
- Regardless of how the files open individually (sometimes the zoom and fit seems to hold), when I open a book file, then use Open All Files In Book (having set the interface to NOT open all the files as tabs in a single window), I get this bizarre Time Tunnel effect whereby each chapter opens in a window that fits within the bounds of the previous chapter. If the first chapter opens correctly, say 100% zoom and Fit Window to Page, the second opens at 100% zoom, but fits in the first, the third within the second, and if the book has enough chapters, the last chapters are vertically tiny, not showing more than a line or two of text. So I need to manually rearrange and re-fit them all before I work on them. What a pain.
I have to say, the FM9 interface is awfully clunky. I don't know if it's implemented (partly) using Flash or what, but whole book operations like opening or closing all files, saving a book as PDF, sometimes even just switching the conditional text that is shown generally result in a frozen screen and a title bar that indicates "not responding" for a couple of minutes before FM9 gets it's act together and returns (often with windows resized and zoomed). It can be pretty frustrating to work with, and can really slow me down.
I'm using structured FM, but not DITA - in house designed EDD, probably based on docbook, but I'm not sure. FM9 is completely updated with available patches.
I've tried playing with the different Interface Preferences, to see if that helps - variously having FM open files as tabs to share the same large tabbed window, or turning that off to have them open as individual files in individual windows. I still cannot get Fit Window to Page to hold consistently. It's a relatively minor nit, but it is annoying, and gobbles extra time for me to keep resetting the working environment as I like it. I have set up a workspace for myself, but this doesn't seem to include the zoom settings, only the various palettes/panels and their states and positions.
If anyone knows of or discovers a fix to this issue, your help would be much appreciated.

I was just reading the FAQ and it does need some upgrading but this section is still correct.

Portal page to launch on new "modal window"

Scenario: I have a page that i want to pop-up when i clicked on the workset where the page is linked. i can set the page to launch on a new window from the page object property but i can still click the navigation links when the page is launch. How do you set the page to launch on a new modal window instead of just a new window?
Is it possible to make the portal page act as a modal window, just like the window when i clicked on the portal log off button?

JRE 1.5.0_13 problem with Modal Window

We have stand alone browser based application built on HTML, Javascript, and Java (non-GUI applet). We were running the Sun JRE 1.4.2_06, but have recently upgarded to 1.5.0_13. As soon as we upgraded to 1.5, started experiencing the below problem -
The HTML screen displays a modal windows which makes a Java call to the MQClient software through Applet (via OBJECT Tag) to communicate with mainframe. The MQClient Java code seems to be blocked until the user clicks on any other area of the screen to shift the focus from our modal dialog to any other window (either clicking on the task bar, clicking on another window in the background, or hitting Alt/F10 key).
The same code runs fine with JRE 1.4.2_06.
Based on a further analysis+ it seems like there is an issue, when a modal html window makes a java call for creating a socket connection (other then localhost). In this scenario, socket is never created unless you drag a modal window or move a focus away from a modal window.
Above problem seems to be resolved with JRE 1.6.0_10.

Hi, do you know if this works if I then want to move my library to a new computer as that is my main intention bacause my old computer hasn't got enough space for me to add new albums so I want to ditch the computer (its got to be about 100 years old and doesn't seem to cope well with modern technology!!) and start using my laptop for my iTunes. I am at the point now where i'm ready to throw both my computer and iPod out the window!!!! I might point out as well that in trying to clear space on my computer I accidently deleted the Bonjour programme which is aparently needed to use the home share option, oops!!!!

Is it possible to install a complete Windows 7 System into a single partition?

The computer I have came with Windows 7 pre-installed. Instead of supplying a recovery disk the manufacturer provided a recovery partition, which of course will be useless should my hard drive fail which is the one event everyone wants to be prepared
to handle when it happens. This recovery partition doubles as a newly designed boot manager which is quite a different animal than what I was accustomed to with Windows XP and prior releases. The recovery partition is also the active partition
and from what I've read I have the idea that I will not get the desired result if I should try and make the main Windows 7 partition (i.e., C: drive) active. While I have used boot managers and think they have merit the idea that my main Windows partition
is incapable of being booted is something that I think is a very bad setup.

In addition to what has already been suggested by everyone here. If you perform a clean install of Windows 7 using default settings on an unpartitioned disk, after setup you will find 2 partitions in Disk Management:
(No Letter):100 MB
Primary Partition, System, Active, this is the boot partition, which contains Bootmgr and the Boot folder.
C: Primary Partition, contains system file such like Page File, crash Dump file. This is the Windows partition.
This partition is being created for a few main reasons:
Bitlocker requires that the boot files and Windows files be separated. This is why Windows Vista needed the Bitlocker Drive Preparation tool. Also, this system partition may be used by utility software, such as backup problems, to support dual boot scenarios.
Protect against delection, such as in a dual boot scenario. It is easy to lose the boot files due to a format when reinstalling an OS which is on the system partition. In this new configuration, the Windows partitions can be formatted without impacting system
boot.
The drive received no drive letter as further protection against accidental deletion of the boot files.
For a single drive system, you can use these steps to create a single partition on the drive, to prevent the creation of the 100 MB system partition:
Use Shift + F10 to open a command prompt while at the “Where do you want to install Windows” step of setup.
Use the following commands to create the partition:
Diskpart
Select disk 0
Create part prim
Active
Exit
Close the command prompt and then click Refresh in the setup wizard to reflect the change.
Note: If you need to remove all existing partitions from the disk, you can use the “clean” command after “select disk 0” to remove all existing partitions.
If you have already installed your system on your computer, you could move your boot file with your system by using
BCD boot
Important: The use of a separate system partition is encouraged, to help reduce the occurrence of problems with startup. If possible, keep the default behavior whenever possible.
