Is it possible to un-dirty a View Object?

I have a transient view object that contains 4 attributes including 2 List of Values.  When selecting from the first List of Values object, the LOV will populate 2 attributes.  Using these 2 attributes will populate the other LOV.  Basically I have a cascading LOV combination.  Now after selecting a value from the last LOV will trigger a change value listener.  This change value listener will do some work in the background i.e., setting a session based object.
Now everything works fine until I try to navigate through certain parts of the application.  It seems pending changes have been detected and because of this an exception is thrown, which causes the page to refresh but do nothing else.  Is there any way to un-dirty a View Object without having to do a Data Control Rollback Transaction call?

Thank you for replying.
Studio Edition Version 11.1.2.4.0
As for the exception, it doesn't throw one.  I don't see anything in the console. The page just refreshes.  Usually in JSF when the page just refreshes and does not nothing, it sometimes means something bad has happened even though nothing is shown in the console..
Anyway, I am assuming it's a pending data changes issue because when I explicitly add in the following code via a returnPopupListener:
if (dataControl.isTransactionModified())
      dataControl.rollbackTransaction();
everything works again i.e., I can navigate to the different pages.  There are no more page just refreshing issue.
Excuse me for a stupid question. The View Object was built Programmatic and attributes are defined as transient.   This is what I mean by transient.  I may be incorrect here.  If so, how can I ensure that the View Object is transient?

    If it is an app compatibility issue - it IS the app developers responsibility to make sure that they update their apps in order to work with the new iOS. Apple owes no users a warning whatsoever. Common sense tells me that a very old app that has not been updated for the last two iOS updates just might not make the grade in the third iOS release since the app came out.
    I can't even find an App called Top 3 Solitaire in the U.S. App Store. Perhaps the app was so old and it hasn't been updated in so long so it was pulled from the App Store.

  • Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?

    Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?
    Generally, make the column list dynamic.
    I think this is related to whether view object can be assembled at runtime based on a dynamic cursor in a procedure?
    I ask this because I would like to know how we can use OA framework to simulate crosstab workbook in Discoverer?
    Anybody has some clues, please advise.
    Thanks.

    Hi Shay,
    Let me tell you briefly... I am sending input as customerId,customerNumber,CustomerName to the web service, if the record is available i am getting the response and i am displaying those records on page as a table. Now when i click a row i need to populate another table with all sale orders of that customer. From webservice datacontrol i have only customer object, I dont have Sales Order Object. For this i need master detail relation. In this case how to proceed. Thats why i am thinking to create a vO and EO object for sales orders table and i want to create view link for this sales order and customers. As i don't have customer VO and EO object to create view link.

  • Possible?Multi-Entity View Object with one Entity Object that is Read-only.

    I know this sounds crazy, but I would like to create a multi-entity view object, where one entity object is based on a table in my application (we'll call it "Users", which basically stores the primary key for the person from the institutional people database), and the other table is a entity object based on a view of the institutional people database table (read only access), which we can call "People".
    I know that since no updates will be done to the People table, it really should be a read-only View Object, but I would lose the ability to sort on attributes like Last Name, Hire date, etc, since those would be transient attributes in my ViewObject for the Users. By having People as an entity object, I can then create a multi entity view object and have the ability to join Users to People and be able to sort on the above mentioned fields (like Last Name).
    The problem is that when I use the JDev (I'm currently using 10.1.2.1) AppModule BC4J tester, when I click on the multi-entity view object that I added to the AppModule it gives me an error:
    oracle.jbo.RowCreateException) JBO-25017: Error while creating a new entity row for People.
    ----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
    (java.lang.InstantiationException) null
    I have tried to change all the attributes to updateable in my entity object, but no create method, and I have tried to make them all read-only, but no effect, I get the same error (probably because the People view is read-only in my schema).
    Is there a way to change the entity object so that it will not try to create a new row when it runs the Tester? So that the multi entity view object behaves more like a view link, but gives me the added bonus of being able to sort on the Last Name column from the People table?
    Thanks for any help on this subject...at worst, I will have to use the view link method to get the job accomplished, but it would be "cooler" if this would work!
    Jeremy.

    Steve, thanks for your quick response to my question.
    To answer your questions, I was trying to create the Multi-entity View Object to give me more flexibility when working with my User table, and my People view. The flexibility I desired was that I would be able to sort my Users based on attributes in the People view. This is not possible when the there is only one Entity in my VO, and the People view data are all transient attributes, because they are not in the SQL statement.
    Ultimately, after working with one of my colleagues, we decided to use the approach that you mentioned by creating a read-only VO with the SQL query we want to display to the user (contains both User and People data fields), and then use a different ViewObject when performing other actions on the User Table (such as inserts/updates/deletes). By using the setWhereClauseParam() method in the handleLifeCycle() for the JSP page, we should be able to navigate between the different View Objects, so that the user does not see any difference.
    Thanks! Oh, and by the way, I have read your article you included before, and I have used it many times before to tune my View Objects! Thanks!

  • Dirty check for transient attributes in view object

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 and ADF BC in my project.
    In one of my view objects,I have a transient attribute added for some business logic.
    I am doing dirty check in my project as below.
    boolean dirty = false;
    boolean amDirty = false;
    // check application module
    ApplicationModule am =
    getBindingContainer().getDataControl().getApplicationModule();
    amDirty = am.getTransaction().isDirty();
    //Check if datacontrol is dirty
    BindingContext bctx =
    oracle.adf.controller.binding.BindingUtils.getBindingContext();
    dirty =
    bctx.findDataControlFrame(bctx.getCurrentDataControlFrame()).isTransactionDirty();
    return amDirty || dirty;
    My requirement is that,I dont want the dirty check to be applied on the transient attribute in the view object.
    Is there any way to achieve this.Please advice...
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the suggestion.
    I followed the link.But if a transient attribute is modified,then also ((ApplicationModule)getDataProvider()).getTransaction().isDirty() is returning true and the transaction is made dirty.
    I am setting a transient attribute like this getNwOperVOIter().getCurrentRow().setAttribute("AcctNoTrans")....when I am editing a row.
    Can I get explicit handle at viewobjectimpl for this transient attribute??

  • Possible bug when creating multiple detail view objects

    using jdev 11.1.1.0.0 to build jsf/adf applications. I wanted to report what seems like a bug in 11g. I have a parent table which has two child tables. After creating the appropriate entities, associations, views, and view links, the app module looks like this:
    MasterView
    --DetailView1
    --DetailView2
    The two detail view objects are on the same level, they are both direct children of the Master view.
    Here's what's happening:
    1) I create the master entity/view objects (MasterView)
    2) I create one of the detail entity/view objects (DetailView1).
    3) I create the association and view link to establish relationship between MasterView and DetailView1. Everything works fine.
    4) I create the entity/view objects for second detail view (DetailView2)
    5) When I attempt to create a second view link (based off an association) to establish the relationship between MasterView and DetailView2, the query clauses of the Create View Link wizard (screens 4 and 5) do not get created properly. I finish the wizard and save. Not only does this view link not get created properly, but in the process the query clauses that were defined in the first view link between MasterView and DetailView1 are wiped out. This will break any coordination between master and detail views in both the app module tester and runtime. Has anyone seen this problem?

    fyi, it looks like this issue has been resolved with jdev 11.1.1.0.2 (Update 2)

  • A dynamic View object at runtime

    Say there is an inputtext component and one LOV. User will enter a number, say 7, and then press a Submit button. And then in the LOV, user will be able to see the numbers from 1 to 7.
    Is it possible to achieve the same?

    Hi,
    am not sure what exactly you are trying to achieve here,
    but from your description, it looks like a query dependency to me..
    So in your VO that will be used as the List of Values for the attribute you want, create a View Criteria that meets the requirement you want (seems like 'Less than or Equal To' is what you need).
    So eventually, you will end up with a ViewCriteria and one bindVarialble in that LOV View Object.
    Since you havent described your BC model, I can only assume that you have one main VO and both UI component are binded to attributes of that VO.
    Now go back to your main VO and update the LOV View AcCessor to use the ViewCriteria specifying the proper value on the Bind Variable.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Dimitrios.

  • Maintaining data of view objects in cache memory for repeated usage

    Hi,
         We are developing an application which is having around 800 viewobjects that will be used as LOV in different screens. Therefore, it is decided to create a separate project for all such LOV view objects and keep the same in shared scope so that the data can be made availabe across the application.
         The application also communicates with different database schemas based on the logged-in county. For a particular user, LOV view object LovView1 should get the data fetched from Schema1 whereas for user2, the same LovView1 should get the data from Schema2.
         For this, we have created n number of ApplicationModules like AM1, AM2 etc in the project each one being connected to different database. A base application module also has been created and all the county specific AMs extend this base AM. Also all the LOV view object instances are included in this base AM so that they will be available in the county specific AMs also.The entire project is made as an ADF Library jar and this base AM is utilized by other projects for mapping the LOV by attaching the library.
         At runtime, whenever a particular viewobject is accessed, the findViewObject() method of the baseAM has been overridden and the logic is built in such a way to get the logged in user's county code from a session variable and based on the county, the corresponding AM is communicated with and the view object is returned.
         The view objects of the LOV project is used as LOV as well as for doing some other backend processes. In such cases, the view object is obtained and necessary filter conditions are appended to the view criteria and is executed to get the filtered rowset.
    Now, my questions are,
    1. Is it enough to create the jar for the LOVProject and access the view objects from the same baseAM across the application?
    2. I wish to keep all the data in cache memory to avoid repeated DB hits for all the LOV view objects. How it can be achieved? To be more precise, consider two users user1 and user2 logging into the application with different county. When user1 access a LOV viewobject for the first time, data needs to be fetched from the DB, kept in application scoped cache memory and return the rowset. On subsequent calls to the viewobject, the data needs to be retreived from the cache and not from the DB. When user2 also access the same LOV viewobject, the same logic as explained for user1 should happen. How can I achieve this? Actually my doubt is when user2 access, will the data pertaining to user1 remains available in cache? If not, how to make it retain the data in cache?
    3. I also wish to append a particular where condition to a viewobject irrespective of other considerations like logged in county, existing view criteria etc.. How can I do this? A separate thread for this requirement has been posted in the forum Including additional where clause conditions to view criteria dynamically
    Kindly give me your suggessions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
    "In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    ==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
    installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
    Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
    access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?

    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory

  • ADF - Multple View Objects in one ADF table - Jdeveloper 11g

    Hi,
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11g, is there a way to use multiple view objects in one ADF table? And if so, do you have an example?
    In my case the view objects are not based on a database table they were created based on an ESB wsdl, one is for person and one is for address.
    Any information or pointers you could provide would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    That would be a good solution, however, I'm supposed to see if there is a way to use the VOs that were created for person and address. Even better if the solution requires little coding.
    Is it possible to combine these two VOs into a single VO to use with an ADF table or to use both of them in a single table? Or is there some other solution that would enable me to use the person and address VOs in a similar manner?
    Thanks!

  • ADF forms based on BPM human tasks - Invoking webservices/view objects.

    Hi All,
    Is anyone aware of whether the following is a valid implementation that has been carried out before.
    1. ADF forms based on BPM 11G human tasks.
    2.The ADF forms invoke webservices via Webservice data controls. It is pertinent to note that the webservice bring back complex data types. We've tried writing a few forms, resulting in data benig brought back, but not being able to print them to the screen.
    3. The ADF forms also use View Object based on sql to bring back tables of data. If view objects are embedded within the forms, the applciation gives rise to a null pointer exception.
    Considering the form will be invoked via a BPM worklist entry, is there a setting or configuration we should consider before hand. Is this feasible, is there knowledge of this being done commercially.
    Any examples or information regarding the same will be immensely helpful.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Preethi.
    NB : I have posted this in the BPM forum as well as I feel it is relevant to both BPM and ADF.

    Hi Joonas.
    Plese let me explain me better for your understanding
    A big summary for what I meant it's the following:
    1- In the procces you made, when you add the HT activity, you have to implement it, this means declare the input(s) parameters you want. This implementation create the .task file.
    2- Create an application, and projects as HT you have. Each poject are based on the .task file, and automatically create a Data Control (for each project based on a .task) with all you need.
    This w'll be an empty application, so you can customize it all you want. The task selected should have all the parameters previously defined. Those parameters can change if you want.
    2- Create a page(s) in the task flow for the task implementation. You can even split the the payload of the task in differents pages, create your custom pages and any logic you need.
    3- An important aspect is how to match these application with the HT implemented in the process. It's possible, it's a configuration en the Enterprise Manager.
    4- Deploy your application
    All these are explain in the book I mentioned
    Th book you can find it here:

  • ADF View objects question

    Hello,
    I created a view object (which bases on an entity object) that I'd like to use for searching for records in a table called "CARS". Cars will be searched by names. I also have a JSP page for adding cars (administration functionality).
    The situation is as follows:
    1. I go to the page for adding cars and click "Submit" (which only submits data without committing to the database).
    2. Then I have validation errors (which is ok because some fields are mandatory).
    3. I search for cars by name.
    The funny part is that if I search for cars with given names, I get those cars AND I get the empty row with this new car I'd tried to add just a moment ago. It's definitely not yet in the database and the name of this car is not set (so it shouldn't match with the name I'm searching for).
    My question is: why is it happening and what should I do to get the rows created but not yet committed not appear in the search results?
    I tried to use clearCache() method of ViewObjectImpl but the result is still the same.
    Please help because I desperately need this for my diploma project.
    Thanks,
    Anna

    I run: "java -Djbo.viewlink.consistent=false -jar oc4j.jar" and I still get new rows. I'm using OC4J 10g (9.0.4.0.0) standalone that comes with JDeveloper 10g (9.0.5.2) on Linux.
    And about that Create pages: I mean I click on a link "New something" 3 times (for example). I don't use the browser back button because I have my menu on each page. In this case I'm just curious if it's possible to somehow "overwrite" previous "new" rows with the most recent one.
    I thought I would need that but now I know I need something else.
    Imagine such a situation:
    1. A user wants to create a new row or update an existing one.
    2. They start filling the form and submit it (in my case it's committing at the same time)
    3. During validation it turns out that some required values are missing so the user has to enter them.
    4. At this point the user leaves the input form and decides to add or update a different row.
    5. The user enters all the required values and this time validation would succeed. However, because of points 2. and 3. it does not.
    Now my question is: how can I make ADF somehow "forget" about the row inserted/updated in point 2. I know that ADF validates all new/changed rows at a time. But I would like to change that behavior so that it would validate only the row changed/created most recently.
    Thanks,
    Anna

  • Newbie question about entity and view objects

    Hi everyone,
    My first ADF application in JDeveloper is off to a difficult start. Having come from a forms background, I know that it is necessary avoid using post-query type lookups in order to have full filtering using F11/Ctrl+F11. This means creating an CRUDable view and getting as much of the lookup data as possible into the view without losing the ability to modify the data. In JDeveloper, I do not know how to build my data model to support that. My thought was to start with a robust updateable view as my main CRUD EO and then create a VO on top of that with additional EOs or VOs. But, I have found that I cannot add VOs to another VO. However, if I link the VOs then I have a master-detail which will not work for me.
    For example, I have two joins to CSI_INST_EXTEND_ATTRIB_V shown in the queries below and need to have that show in the table displaying the CRUD VO’s data. It seemed that the best way to do this is to create a CSI_INST_EXTEND_ATTRIB_V entity object and view object. The view object would have two parameters, P_INSTANCE_ID and P_ATTRIBUTE name. Both the building and the unit are needed on the same record, and this is not a master-detail even though it might look that way. (A master-detail data control will not work for me because I need all this data to appear on the same line in the table.) So, I need help figuring out the best way to link these to the main (CRUD) view; I want as much of this data as possible to be filterable.
    select
    cieav.attribute_value
    from
    csi_inst_extend_attrib_v cieav
    where cieav.instance_id = p_instance_id
    and cieav.attribute_code = 'BUILDING NAME'
    select
    cieav.attribute_value
    from
    csi_inst_extend_attrib_v cieav
    where cieav.instance_id = p_instance_id
    and cieav.attribute_code = 'UNIT NAME'
    Ultimately, I need to display a ton of data in each record displayed in the UI table, so a ton of joins will be needed. And, I need to be able to add records using the UI table also.
    James

    Hi Alejandro,
    Sorry if I caused confusion with my first post. What I had in mind assumed that I could have a single CSI_INST_EXTEND_ATTRIB_V EO with a BuildingVO and UnitVO on top of it. So, I wrote the queries individually to show how I would invoke each view. When I realized that confused the issue, I rewrote the query to explain things better.
    Now having seen your 2 queries. You need to create 2 EO. One for each table. Then create an association between the 2 aeO (this will be the join you are talking about). Then, you need to create a VO based on one of the EO and after you can modify and add the second EO (in here you select the join type).
    After your done with this, youll have 1 VO that supports CRUD in both tables.
    There were three tables in the query: CIEAV_BUILDING, CIEAV_UNIT, and T -- the main CRUD table. When you say that I should create two EOs, do you mean that they are to be for CIEAV_BUILDING and CIEAV_UNIT? Or, CIEAV and T? Assuming CIEAV and T, that sounds like it would allow me to show my building or unit on the record but not both.
    By the way, everything is a reference except for the main CRUD table.
    Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your help (and patience).

  • Iterating through master view objects and child view objects in same page

    I am working on a project using ADF UIX and Business Components.
    I have an application module with two view objects one the master view object and the second the detail object. They are related via a view link.
    I would like to iterate through the master view objects displaying a customer name as bold text and then below each customer name I'd like to display the detail records in a table via the detail view object i.e. a seprate table for each customer.
    Is this possible - I haven't had much luck!?
    Thanks in advance.

    That's because
    $(".ms-vb2 a").
    is bringing back all the pieces that have that class with an anchor on the whole page, not just the ones in the .ms-wpContentDivSpace
    I don't know the exact syntax, but I think you need to iterate through all the '.ms_vb2 a' items as well - there are multiple ones, and do something like this inside your other grouping
    $(".ms-vb2 a").each(function(index) {
        var val=$(this).html();
       var val2=val.replace(/_/g," ")
       $(this).html(val2);
    That's not quite right but maybe that will help.

  • View Link on two programmatic view objects

    Hello,

    Who can help?
    Thnx in advance!
    Rolf

    Rolf,
    I guess when we try to do it for you, we end up with almost the sample code provided by Steve Muench.
    So there from my point of view it doesn't make sense to do it all over.
    Take some time and study the sample code, run it without changes and after that try some changes which suits your use case better.
    If you don't understand what's going on in the sample post the question here and we try to help you.
    Timo

    I always found reading over a bright white background on books very tiring for my eyes. Instead of flooding them with eye drops, can we can change the background of the books or PDF to a softer background?
