Is it possible to use an object as a selection path?

I know in photoshop you can make shapes with the pen tool and then covert them into a selection path.
I was wondering if there is such similar feature in Illustrator
For example with the picture I posted here, what I want to do is be able to select the objects that are in contact with the black object on top without having to individually select them or use the "lasso" tool
It would make things easier with a "Select all objects under or above" option, theres only the "Select next object under or above"

the script works exactly the way you originally asked, you draw a path, with the pen if you want, then run the script and everything under this path of yours will get selected.

Possible to use an expression for a property path?

I've run into a problem. I want to use SetNumElements on an array, for which I'd like to vary the first "array" parameter based on an iteration of a loop. I want to increment the size of a different array for every iteration of a "for each" loop. The array which the forEach loop is iterating over contains the names of the arrays contained in Parameters. So I'm trying to use an expression to build the property path within the SetNumElements parameter, but it is complaining. My expression is:
SetNumElements("Parameters." + Locals.CurrentElement, GetNumElements("Parameters." + Locals.CurrentElement) + 1)
I get "expected array, found string" syntax error.
Is it possible to "build" the property name string in this function? I see the "evaluate" function, but that seems it will try to return the contents of the property, which I don't want. I just want to build the array name itself.

It looks like you are evaluating a specific element (in this case that element is a string).
Here is a simple example of what I believe your overall objective is:
Parameters.Random is an array of numerics with 10 elements
Locals.String = "Random"
In my statement step I have:
SetNumElements(Evaluate("Parameters."+Locals.String), 1)
So essentially we must use evaluate when building an expression for the entire array, not just one element.
If the expression you want is contained in that array (ie if Parameters.StepTypesToSearchFor[1] = some string of the array ("locals.array") then you will need another Evaluate() function to evaluate that expression.
As an aside, this will only change the size at runtime, the variables (unless they are Station Globals) will return to the defaults when the execution is complete.

Is it possible to use a variable to control the path where a sub-flow is found ?

I have a customer on UCCX 7.0.2 SR5.
They are developing a script that uses many sub-flows and they wish to have a "Development" , "QA" and a "Production" versions of the application all on the same box.
I can build the applications easily enough but the challenge I'm running into is we want to also have 3 different sub-directories in the repository to hold the different versions of the scripts and the sub-flows. The thought is the developers can keep working on modifying the code while the QA team tests the latest build without affecting each other. Then there is a separate production version of the script that has previously passed QA and is public facing.
Example: the directory structure where the scripts are stored.
\root of repository
     App-Dev
     App-QA
     App-Production
In a script, it seems that you have to browse to the location in the repository and directly select the subflow you want.
This is a challenge since when I copy my code from the development to the quality assurance directory I have to go thru and edit all the references to the sub-flow to the QA directory.
Ideally I'd like to do the following:
Define a string variable "Script-Path" and assign it to the desired directory
then call the subflow
SCRIPT[Script-Path\ScriptName.aef]
this doens't seem to work.
Has anyone found a solution to this challenge ?

Does the subflow script and the script that calls it are in the same folder??
If the script was originally loaded from disk, the subflow script must reside in the
same folder as the script that calls it. If the script was loaded from the Repository,
then the subflow must also reside in the Repository.
EDIT: My first comment was because I though you were trying to call a script directly from disk.
Now for scripts that are in the repository I did some tests. I have the root directory where I placed the main script and then I have another directory called Test where I placed the subflow script.
My main script is:
Start
Accept
PlayPrompt (audio.wav)
Subflow(subflowVariable)
End
*subflowVariable is a parameter with value "Test\subflowScript.aef"
My subflow script plays a prompt.
So when I test this everything worked just fine

Using Date objects in SQL statements

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to use Date objects while trying to retrieve entries from an access database with fields set as "Date/Time" fields, as opposed to "Text"? If so, do I need to reformat it before inserting it into the SQL statement, or can I just leave it as a Date object, and call up the variable name?
For example - "SELECT * FROM database WHERE startDate = ' " + dateObject + ' ". And do i need quotes round this value?

I had some problems by just fetching a date and pushing it back to a MS SQL Database.
I used the following reformating step to fix it:

ht.put(columnName, time);
o is the object i receve from the select statement and ht is a Hashtable where i put my data.
To write the data back i now can use:
UPDATE table SET columnname = 'valueOfColumn'
This means i use the value i created above in Quotes to write it back.
Format of Timestamp.toString() is something like yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.xx
Format used by MS SQL (and i think by Access to) 'dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm:ss'

Using Smart objects between documents

I know how to make smart objects within a single document, but Is it possible to use Smart objects between separate psd files?
I would like to create a master background file and have any changes made to this updated throughout all the other psd documents that contain this.
I cant find any info on this...Can it be done?

No a smart object layer contains a copy of the original in the layer. If you then change the orignal the copy in the smart object layer is not updated and if you change the copy in the smart object layer the original is not changed. Smart Object are independant from the original. It is posible to have multipal smart object layers that contain the same smart object in a single document. You can change the single smart object from any of the layers that its in. You can also have independant smart object layers of the same image. That the difference between dupeing a smart object layer and using menu layers>smart objects>new smart object via copy.

Using grouped objects as drag and drop source

I am creating a drag and drop interaction. I have an image grouped with a text area and would like to make them draggable together as a single drag source.
However, even though they are already grouped, when I edit the drag and drop interaction, they can only be specified as separate sources.
Is it possible to use grouped objects as a single source? How?

Have tons of workarounds, but none for this. It is simply not possible to indicate a group as a drag object, you have to put everything in one object. Maybe if you explain what is in the group?

How to use an Object Type from Another Database

I have this requirement that I need to call a stored procedure from another DB (db1) but I am having a problem with this because one of the input parameters uses an object type defined in that DB (db1). Is it possible to use an object type from another database? TIA!

Retrieve db connection using datasource object

The problem is: i can't retrieve the connection to database
using datasource object in jsp.
my jsp was build by Oracle9i Report Builder,then deployed
to OC4J jsp container,
i define the datasource at container level,
but an error "log on not specified" arise.
is it possible to use datasource object in such a way or not?

Is it possible to use events for objects that do not use swing or awt

Dear Experts
I want to know if events are possible with plain java objects. A simple class that is capable of firing an event and another simple class that can receive that event. My question is
1. If it is possible - then what is the approach that needs to be taken and would appreciate an example.
2. Is Observer Pattern in java going to help?
To explain further i am doing [Add,Modify,Delete,Traverse] Data tutorial using swing in Net beans. I have a ButtonState Manager class that enables and disables buttons according to a given situation. For example if add is clicked the modify button becomes Save and another becomes Cancel. The other buttons are disabled. What i want is the ButtonStateManager class to do a little further - i.e. if Save is clicked it should report to DBClass that it has to save the current record which was just added. I am foxed how this can be done or what is the right way. Thanks for reading a long message. Appreciate your help.

Error : Access not possible using "null" objects reference

i am working with a zbapi.
i called a external email program in this bapi,everything is working fine over here.
In webdynpro java they mapped my bapi and starting working from there.
every functionality is working fine but regarding this email stuff it is showing an error as access not possible using null objects reference.
where could be the possible error.
is it in webdynpro or in abap side.

You are right. When it comes from the WD Java, may be you are not passing any value at all. You can trace it by these ways.
1. Check it using SE37, make sure everyhting is fine.
2. Print all the values that you are passing to the RFC in the execute RFC method().
3. using ST05 transaction in R/3, enable RFC and SQL trace, check what is passing in between web dynpro and R/3.

RFC to HTTP Interface - Access using NULL object reference is not possible

I am working on a Interface RFC to HTTP where in I am sending the data to a third party system.
Using PI 7.3 and Adapter type XI to send this data.
I am getitng an error Short dump occured when executing message in qRFC queue <Queuename>: Date/time 02.12.2011 08:44:57, user XXXXX, runtime error: Access using NULL object reference is not possible.
<SAP:Code area="INTERNAL">QRFC_SYSTEM_DUMP</SAP:Code>
I am entering the parameters such as target host,service number,path correctly with addrseing type as URL.
The message is failing in the call adapter step with the above error.
There are no messages stuck in SMQ2 as well.
Now on the other if I use the adapter type HTTP_AAE the messages is getting successfully delivered with the same parameters mentioned above.But as we know it is a plain adapter and will not have the SOAP envelope.
We would want to send the data using the XI adapter.
Any idea as why this issue is happening?
