Is it possible to "wake on lan" my MacBook Air (Lion) via a DDWRT router?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to wake my MacBook Air via my router Buffalo DDWRT, but using WOL features my MacBook Air doesn't wake up.
Do you have any suggestion? Should it work?
Many thanks!!!
Stefano

Once you are 'inside' your LAN via VPN you should have no trouble waking up sleeping PPC or Intel desktop Macs. You will not be able to power them on from a shutdown/powered-off state as this capability is not available in those machines. WOL from a power-off state is only available on LOM-enabled XServes.
This command line tool:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wake-on-lan/
works to power on Intel XServes and sleeping desktop PPC or Intel Macs. To install it you will need the XCode Developer Tools installed, then the standard configure/make/make install will get it installed. The command is very simple:
wol -i 123.45.67.89 00:11:22:33:44:55
where '123.45.67.89' is the IP number of the machine you wish to wake and '00:11:22:33:44:55' is its MAC address. Send the command three or four times and the machine will come out of sleep or power-on. This CLI utility works very well in a situation where you only have 'ssh' access to sites.

  • Wake on lan for macbook pro residing behind a linksys router in clamshell

    Hi:
I have a macbook pro residing behind a router at home
with its lid closed connected to an external display
and USB keyboard and mouse. When I use it at home, I
use the keyboard and mouse to wake it up (I believe
this is called clamshell mode) and use the external display.
I would like to access the machine from my office.
I have set up the "wake from lan" option in enery saver
and have forwarded port 9 (UDP) to the macbook pro.
But the machine does not wake up and I cannot ssh
into it from the outside (I have forwarded port 22 to it as well).
Is this a problem with operating it with the lid closed
that "wake on lan" is not working ?
How do I set this up ?
    Thanks!

It has been fixed by latest SMC firmware update. Works fine on Mountain Lion.

  • A78M-E35 can't wake on lan after power unplug

Hi, this is my first HTPC with Kodibuntu and trying to use the wake on lan to boot it.
I have disabled EuP 2013 and enable Resume by PCI-E device.
And I also add the MAC address and IP to TP link router ARP list.
But WOL just worked well if it boot immediately after shutdown.
So my question: is it possible to wake on lan even if i completely shutdown and unplug the power?
    thanks in advance

no that is not possible as your computer has no power!
WOL is to bring the computer out of Sleep/Hibernation not power up when its got no power to function or is fully shut down!
oic. thank you for your reply!

  • Is it possible to can I get installments for macbook air?

Hello. I'm a student in Arizona and I'm from Turkey. I'm living in a boarding school and I wanna buy a new macbook for my classes because my current one is 6 years old and started to working really slow with some other issues. I wanna know if it's possible to get installments by using a credit card. Only thing is my credit card is belong to Turkey but I buy stuff from internet all the time. Is it possible to can I buy a macbook air with installments by using my Turkish credit card?

You realise this is the Pages forum?
Your MacBook is probably running slow because you have a full hard drive.
Buy a WD Passport USB Hard Drive and back off as much as you can from your Mac so that at least 20% of the HDD is free.
Also run optimisation utilities over the Mac to clean it up.
Additional RAM is the best investment.
As to whether you can pay your Mac off in installments, using a credit card to pay debt, a better question would be why are you not saving for a new Mac, negotiating a best price and then paying for it? Common sense will tell you that you will save a lot of money and own your new Mac much faster.

  • No Wake-on-LAN possible since updating to ML

    Hi everybody,
since updating from OS X 10.7 to 10.8 (clean install), Wake-on-LAN does not work anymore. Setup: Mac mini (Early 2011) connected to Time Capsule (2nd gen) via devolo dLAN. Mac mini goes to sleep after 30 minutes and eventually disappears from the network. Sending Wake-On-LAN packets or using Back To My Mac fail, it simply won't wake up.
Wake-on-LAN worked smoothly under 10.7 after some problems. Any ideas?
    Thanks and regards
    Steffen

Yes, wired. It's a wired Ethernet-over-Power Line connection, see www.devolo.com for technical details. WiFi is turned off. Anyway, wired and WiFi use the same static IP address within the LAN, it's alway 10.0.1.2, the standard host for NAT port forwarding. The network setup has always been this way and never caused problems. It has been running smoothly for almost 18 months now, using LogMeIn, Plex, jDownloader, EyeTV and other stuff for remote access via iPhone, iPad or web interfaces. Glitches started after upgrading to ML.
I just had the idea that the DHCP lease time configured in the Time Capsule might be the source of the problem. It was set to three hours, which explains why the Mac mini (10.0.1.2) eventually disappears from the list of network devices after it went to sleep: IIRC the Bonjour Sleep Proxy discards the IP reservation as soon as the lease time has elapsed, making the corresponding network device unreachable. Well, I cannot remember I changed anything in the network setting of the Time Capsule, but increased DHCP lease time to 60 days now. As soon as I get home, I will push the Mac mini's power button to re-register it's IP in the LAN and check if the new DHCP lease time solves the Wake-on-LAN issue.
I wonder why I did not run into that problem with Snow Leopard or Lion. Maybe they really changed something under the hood with regards to the Power Nap feature. For now, it's just guessing, so any further ideas are warmly welcome.

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

  • Wake on lan

I just purchased the MSI K7N2G-L/NFORCE2 board. I noticed it said it had WOR(wake on ring), but I didn't see a WOL (wake on lan). Is it possible to hook this up?

i have not tried it but the option is listed in win xp's device manager. double click the nvidia network controller listing. goto -advanced- click on -wake on lan from power off- check to see if its enabled or not. i think its enabled by default. hope this helps.

  • Airport Extreme- anybody have a workaround for the lack of Wake on LAN ?

I've read in a number of places that the Airport Extreme (and other Apple routers) don't allow for the standard Wake on LAN packet to wake a sleeping Mac.
Does anybody know of a workaround for the Airport Extreme that might allow for waking a sleeping Mac on the LAN remotely ?
    Thanks,

  • Aside from Wake on LAN, how can I turn on my S10 without pressing the Power Button?

    Hi,
FIrst of all I have not tried Wake on LAN on this S10 of mine, yet.  I don't even know if it will work or not.
Anyway, this is my main concern.  I'm planning to mount my S10 on the back of my monitor, I'll be putting a wire mesh kinda box that will hold it.  I will then hook the VGA monitor/audio cables to my S10.  I'll also be hooking my wireless Keyboard so it will look clean as possible.  With this setup, of course, the LCD lid will be closed and I'm thinking of ways on how to turn it on with the Lid closed.  I'm currently finding ways on how to do this?  I was hoping NOT to go to the rear of my monitor >> lift the S10 from the mesh box >> press the power button >> close the lid >> place it back to the mesh box mount.
The wireless keyboard has a power on option (I have Logitech MK300) but does NOT work.  Would a Wired USB keyboard work?
Fortunately, I have a deskop computer (which has its own monitor) that will sit beside my S10/Monitor.  The two computers (Desktop and S10) will run independently.
What do you think guys?  What options can I go with?  Is my only hope Wake On LAN?  Oh yeah, it is even possible with the S10?
Maybe there is a USB device or a hack that can be done (not voiding the warranty)?
    Thanks!

Yeah, I just noticed it   So does this mean I can't wake my S10 thru LAN right?  Anyway, do you have any suggestions?  I'm looking for a Docking Station, but I can't find any.   Can a USB replicator turn this on?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

  • Dot1x + wake on lan

    hi,
i found some datasheet about dot1x and WOL, but no ones gave me satisfaction this day.
I try to have the WOL with dot1x, but is it possible ?
    i have switch  2960X (SW version :15.0(2)EX4) )
the initial port's configuration below (for dot1x of course) :
    authentication port-control auto
    authentication violation protect
    dot1x pae authenticator
with the value "authentication port-control auto" the magic packet cannot access to the computer. When i remove the value, the compoter boot correctly but, i dont have any authentication, the port keeps the old authentication and i dont see my computer on the ACS when he reboots. (i see the computer for each reboots on ACS).
but, i can log on the network domain, i have an IP, but i dont know if the computer is legit or not
i want to see the computer's registration with "sh authenti session int xxxx"
without the value "port control auto" i just see :
    MAC Address:  Unknown
    IP Address:  Unknown
    Status:  Authz Success
    and with the value :
    MAC Address:  b4b5.2fae.xxxx
    IP Address:  10.45.66.54
    User-Name:  ps01826
so, how do I do ? is it possible or not ?
    thank for the reply

i found the answer this morning :
"IEEE 802.1X Authentication with Wake on LAN
The IEEE 802.1X authentication with wake on LAN (WoL) feature allows dormant PCs to be powered when the switch receives a specific Ethernet frame, known as the “magic packet.” You can use this feature in environments where administrators need to connect to systems that have been powered off.
When a host that uses WoL is attached through an 802.1X port and the host powers off, the 802.1X port becomes unauthorized. The port can only receive and send EAPOL packets, and WoL magic packets cannot reach the host. When the PC is powered off, it is not authorized, and the switch port is not opened.
When the switch uses 802.1X authentication with WoL, the switch forwards traffic to unauthorized 802.1x ports, including magic packets. While the port is unauthorized, the switch continues to block ingress traffic other than EAPOL packets. The host can receive packets but cannot send packets to other devices in the network."
describes exactly the problem i have, and i cant fix it because if i remove the "authentication port-control auto" the computer does not authenticate anymore :/

  • C445 and wake on lan

Is it possible to use wake on lan with a C445 all in one PC? Normally this is enabled in the Bios but this unit doesn't seem to use a bios.

    hi stevemaz,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The Ideacentre C445 does use a BIOS and you can access it by pressing F1 on power up.
It's possible to use the Wake-On-LAN (WOL) feature of this unit as long as it meets the following requirements:
    1. WOL must be enabled in the BIOS (this model has one)
    - Link to picture
    2. WOL must enabled in the LAN card
    - I'm unable to verify this as there's no available C445 here in the lab.
Check this article for more info on how to enable WOL
