Is it possible with cDAQ to output PWM-Signal and Digital lines through same module?

Hello
I try to output a digital line and a PWM signal through one 9401 module. I use it for actuator control with PWm = speed and digital hig/low = direction.
In LV, I set up cDAQ/_ctr1, then use channel property outport to set it to e.g. cDAQ/module9401/PFI0.
But when I start a second task to use PFI1 as digital output on the same module, the vi fails with timeout error.
Is simultaneous useage possible or will I have to use 2 modules
Thanks for your insights.
Michael

Hi,
you can upload your LV VI, because I suspect you make a mistake in you're program.

  • Measure rpm and PWM signals using digital input of NI9401 module

Hi, is there a simple way how measure rpm (to 5000 rpm) and PWM (about f=3kHz) signals using digital input of NI9401 (ultrahigh-speed digital I/O)  module plugged in NI 9172 ?  I will wellcome any suggestions and VI examples (bether still). I'm begginer using LView 8.2. I apologize for my poor English. Many thanks.

    Hi CUA,
Since you have already the right tools, you just need to get started with the software. The NI-9401 will give you access to the counters that are inside the cDAQ chassis 9172.
You need to place the module in slots 5 or 6. You can read in how they work and how to configure them in the counters section of the user guide found here.
Now to measure rpm, you can either measure the period of the signal (seconds) and multiply by 60 to have minutes and the number of ticks per revolution. You can find a shipped example to read period called “Meas Dig Freq-Buffered-Cont-Large Range 2 Ctr.vi” found under Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Counter Mesurements
To measure PWM, it is similar procedure and you can read the semiperiod (high time or low time). There is also a shipped example called “Meas Semi-Period.vi” found under the same location.
There is great information for these kind of task at this page or just post back if you need to.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem when combinning PWM signal and Analog signal TOGETHER!

    Hello everybody,
first of all i have DAQmx 6212, and i need to run a small water pump (9V-16V) which needs to be driven by a PWM signal; also i have a motor (5V-13V) for a water valve that needs to be driven by a analog signal and it has a built in a force feedback potentiometer, i connected on the extremeties of this potentiometer +5V from the DAQmx and used the output voltage from the third extremety as a diagnose value for knowing the position of the motor.
    my VI shows:
    1. is a normal Counter output to create my PWMout signal.
    2. is an analog input i use it as a PWMin to the LabVIEW to diagnose what is happenning in my water pump through the duty cycle and the frequency.
    3. is an analog input from the third extremety of the potentiometer.
    4. is an analog output which i have used as a power supply for the motor valve and i have used an AC/DC amplifier to aplify the signal from the DAQmx and drive the motor, between (3. and 4.) i have made a feedback with some calculations i had a P-controller to know the actual position of the motor valve.
    My Problem:
    when putting 1. and 2. in the same VI alone, i am getting a clean PWM in/out with no problems mentioned;
    also when putting 3. and 4. in the same VI alone i can control the motor valve without any problems;
but when i put all these 4 together as found in the attached VI, i have a problem that the motor valve is running continously without stopping even if i change the valve position between 0 and 100 %, i should mention that i am seeing a normal PWM out/in signal on my oscilloscope, one other thing that if i delete one of (1. or 2.)  and run the VI the motor valve is working fine without any problems.
so this my problem, if you can think of any solution please let me know.
thanks in advance for your help.

Dear nathand thanks for your reply,
i have ran the vi again and i am have error no 50103 from the (AI, number 3. )  but it is not displaying the error message, the VI keeps running without any error notification.
adding to that,  i have tested the VI again today by placing (1. and 2.for the PWM inout) together in one VI and (3. and 4.for the motor valve) in another VI and ran them one after the other, i had another problem. if i turn the motor valve vi, the motor will run smoothly but in the pwm vi i will have a problem in which the AI did not read any value. also doing this vice versa by running the pwm vi first it will work perfect but the motor vi will have problem in reading the measured voltage in AI during this the motor will keep on running without stopping.
so i think now the problem is in AI (2. and 3.) readings they are interfering on each other but i am not discovering where is my problem...
Q: does the AI's seems well build or i can do it in an another way so to get over the interfering?

  • Possibility to route Sound? (connect headphone and speakers at the same ti

Hi is it possible to route the sound of my X-FI Titanium (PCIe)?
I want to connect Headphone and 2. Speakers at the same time and want to be able to decide where the sound comes out.
It wasnt possible with my previous audigy 2zs, but it thought now it could be possible, because every cheap onboard sound can do that.
The only solution so far was to choose stereo surround but that wont work in games because most games recognise 4 speakers and some sound is missing.
    Any hints?
    Thanks in Advance

I used to be able to do that in XP with an SB Li've 024 which?was like 2+2 stereo card before 5. came out.
Thinking....maybe somethig like [url="http://www.pccables.com/images/05004.jpg">this[/url]?(3.5mm STEREO JACK Y-SPLITTER ADAPTER) plugged into front out for headphones and front speakers.
You can also get a cable that does similar.

  • Is it possible to set the sound output to Firewire and HDMI at the same time?

I would like to use Amarra for playing music thru the Firewire to a DAC and I would like the family to be able to use the MacMini for streaming sources thru the HDMI without having to change any settings every time. I'm running 10.8. Is that possible thru any special settings or separate software?
    Thanks in advance

  • Error -200279 with simultaneous analog input (different devices) and digital output.

    Hi guys,
I am a beginner in Labview and have been dealing with this problem for a couple of weeks now and just can't seem to get it completely right, I have a feeling there are a few small bugs in my code/hardware setup.
I am running an scxi-1000 chassis with a 1600 module and 1302C along with a 1303 accesory for temperature measurements, this is connected to four thermoucouples. Unfortunately I have a limited number of modules available so I am also using a PCI-6221 DAQ card with an scb-68 breakout box used for a digital output and analog input voltage channel. Attached is my labview program. When I run the code at a 50 Hz sampling rate it runs with no errors but the data file comes out extremely wrong, this is also attached. When I run the code at 100 Hz I get error-200279 after a few loops. I used to have 2 daqmx timing VIs (one for each input), but the same error would eventually happen, I have also tried increasing the buffer size on said timing VI. I am also using an old computer (Pentium IV) could this effect the program?
I have learned a lot going through forms for similar problems to mine but I just can't get it to for an extended period of time, I have posted my simplest code.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luca

Ok this makes sense. I have made the suggested modifications but still getting the same error with sampling rates of 100 Hz or higher. Could you check that I have implemented the queue VIs properly (new file attached)? Also when running at 50 Hz in debug mode it does not look like the second while loop (with the dequeue element) comes into play until I hit the stop button, once I hit the stop button I get the following error:
Error 1 occurred at Dequeue Element in FinalCombined_2.vi
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: An input parameter is invalid. For example if the input is a path, the path might contain a character not allowed by the OS such as ? or @.
    =========================
NI-488: Command requires GPIB Controller to be Controller-In-Charge.
This leads me to believe I have programmed the queue elements incorrectly.
Thanks for your help, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • I'm having trouble with PFI 24..31 signals and can't program to higher drive

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble setting up my PFI<24..31> signals on my PXIe-6556.  According to the specifications, I can drive these signals to +/-85mA.  I have not been able to achieve that using the static PFI method using NI-HSDIO.  I see the voltage dropout rather quickly.  Using a 500 ohm resistor to ground on this signal, the voltage collapses from 3.3V to 3.0V with only approximately 6mA of current across resistor.
    What am I doing wrong?

To explain the circuit, it is simplified a 3.3V power rail connected to the 50 ohm output impedance, which acts like a series resistance. Given this, we do not behave like a LDO or a current supply, and any load connected to the line is going to behave much like a voltage divider rather than a regulator.
The case of tying the line directly to GND, you will see 3.3V / 50 ohm to get 66 mA of output current. The only way to get the full 85 mA is to tie the line to a -0.9 V reference, which is not very practical I understand. Talking to a HW engineer here, the spec is mainly based off the buffer we use and what it is capable of. I think it makes more sense when it is understood that the line is bidirectional, and it can source/sink 85 mA when being acted upon by an external circuit.
Given all of this, I think it won't be suited well enough to drive a 500 ohm load to the specifications you need. You'll need to have some external circuit that can source 85 mA, or another device such as an SMU. The PPMU on the 6556 can source 32 mA (and beyond, we are not current limited, but anything above 32 mA is not within specification and sustained operation outside of spec could damage the board over time). You can use the PPMU as a source, since it acts more like an SMU and has a sense feedback loop to regulate a voltage/current on the line.
Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully you have enough information to move forward. Thanks.

  • Will ATV 3 output from HDMI and Optical at the same time?

I'd like to use my apple TV to feed music to my main AV receiver while at the same time sending that same audio signal out the optical out connection to my other AV receiver that provides music to all of the rooms in my home. Right now it feeds the music to my main AVR via HDMI just fine but nothing to my other AVR.
    Is this possible?

We've used an airport express since 'the beginning' - for years to get our Wifi from our cable modem in our garage while simultaneoulsy using it to output audio to a VERY old tuner in the garage. I have some nice outdoor Bose speakers connected to this setup which allows any mobile device wifi equiped to output any audio through my setup.... i.e. we usally use iTunes off our laptop while we are chilling outside. • Is it possible to make a built of bullets and images at the same time?

    Hi,
I build a slide with a bullet entry that appear one at a time. Quite easy. But each time I draw a bullet I would like to have an image appear with each one.
Other than that, I only see the built of bullet as separate text object with image built in the middle. Right?
    Thanks

That'll do it. Can have image build on same click or time point if automatic by using the +automatically with+ option in build drawer

  • Acquire pwm on a digital line

    Hello,
Does anyone have a suggestion or starting code that would allow me to acquire a duty cycle on a digital input port? I have 24 pwm (0-5vdc) signals I need to continuously monitor during durability testing. Currently I use the counters on an x series card (PCIe 6323) but my sample size has increased and we prefer not to use 6 daq cards.
    Thanks,

How accurately do you need to measure duty cycle, in terms of time units?  Or, alternatively, what is the minimum on time that you need to be able to measure?  I don't have a 6323, but it appears that you can do buffered acquisition of digital signals at up to 1mhz; is this fast enough for your application?  If so, you can calculate duty cycle by reading a number of samples (several periods is probably best), adding the number of true samples, and dividing by the total number of samples.  (I'd do this by using the boolean to 0,1 function, cast to a 32-bit value if necessary, then sum array elements and divide.)

Why won't my Mac w Mt Lion update mt Calendar and Address book through the Icloud?

Are you really still running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) as shown in your profile? If so, that's why. Full use of iCloud needs at least Lion 10.7.2 or Mountain Lion.
If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion and forgot to update your profile, here are some things to check:
    Is it on a network?
Is it signed into iCloud? The same iCloud Account?
Are Contacts and "Calendars & Reminders" checked in the iCloud and same account's "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" panels of System Preferences?
Are you looking at the correct accounts in Calendar and Contacts?
