Is LabVIEW best for implementating an array of microphones?

Hello techies,
I am planning to implement an array of microphones for localization of sound. Is LabVIEW the best for this or does anybody know a better one??
I would appreciate it if anybody could help me with this.
thanks in advance !

Stream of consciousness alert.
My sense is that LabVIEW is not the BEST.
The best is probably an all-hardware solution.  Very difficult to build, harder to debug, harder still to modify.
Introduce software, the next best is probably coded in machine language.  Probably harder than all-hardware.
Next best is to use a low-level language such as C with custom routines optimized for your particular problem.  Hard, but doable and not user-friendly.
Move to a higher level language such as C++, better UI, slightly worse performance.
Move to LabVIEW/Measurement Studio.  Slightly worse overhead, great UI, relatively easy to modify and debug.  Probably the only one that works on a reasonable budget/timeline.
99+% of applications would probably not need the performance (at least initially) beyond what LV can deliver.  Even if you did, you'd be crazy not to start with the most straightforward.
My personal bias is towards Measurement Studio.  I feel that it gives me the ability to get my hands dirty when necessary but maintain a very clean UI.  With LV I feel that there is some overhead when interfacing with external code.  If I already knew LV would I learn/buy Measurement Studio just for this application, almost certainly not.
Don't let perfection be the enemy of the very, very good.  I say go with LV.
End stream of consciousness.

  • Best practice for implementing META tags for content items?

    Hello,
The portal site I'm responsible for managing our content (www.sers.state.pa.us) runs on the following WebCenter products:
    WebCenter Interaction 10.3.0.1
    WebCenter Publisher 6.5
    WebCenter Studio 2.2 MP1
    Content Service 10gR3
The agency I work for is one of many for the commonwealth of PA, which use this product suite, and I'm encountering some confusion on how to apply META tags to the content items for our site, so we can have effective search results. According to the [W3C site's explanation on META tag standards|http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp], the tags for description, keywords, etc, should be within the head region of the HTML document. However, with how the WebCenter suite's configuration is set up, the head section of the HTML is closed off by the end of the template code for a common header portlet. I was advised to add fields to our presentation and data entry templates for content, to add these meta fields, however, since they are then placed within the body section of the HTML as a result, these tags fail to have any positive impact on the search results. Instead, many of our content items, when searched for, the description in the search results only shows text that is displayed in the header and left navigation of our template, which come early in the body section of the HTML.
Please advise as to possible method(s) that would be best to implement usage of META tags so we can get our pages containing content to come up in search results with this relevant data.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

if i remember right the index server will capture meta tags even if they are not in the <head> section. it is not well formed html but I think i remember that we created meta tags down in the body section and the index server still picked them up. you might try this and see if it still works. i believe it worked in 10gR3. Let me know your results.

  • Best practice for implementing Manufacturing Cost Planning ( MCP)

is there any best practice for implementing Manufacturing Cost Planning ( MCP) using BI-IP?

    Hi:
Both options are viable. If you reverse posting in FB50 then FI GL account postings will also be reversed and along with cost center postings. Hence here advantage is that cost center reversal will be with referenced to the original document with which wrong posting were made. Disadvantage here is that you will to post the entry again in FB50 . In KB11N you will simply transfer cost center amount from wrong to new one that should be in place of it but here you will have no reference . I personally think reversing posting through FB50 is viable options , reverse postings can be seen in KSB1 as well against that cost center.

    Jouni,
Good question. And answer is complex, there is in depth and there is in depth.
Most people would be satisfied by reading a summary of all the different components - encryption, hashing, signing, PKI, how IPsec and SSL/TLS work. This group also counts most of security CCIEs.
To this extent CCIE Security Study Guide (by Henry Benjamin) was a good read, if a bit outdated today.
Most people who are in depth will look first into specification.
    RFC 4301 (IPsec architecture)
    RFC 2246 (TLS 1.0)
Are a good start and contain references to other documents worth reading.
This is where the good folks will base their knowledge of off.
The really in depth people will look into the math behind it and will conquer topics like
Elliptic Curve Crypto ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliptic_curve_cryptography ) and difference between CCM, GCM and CCB, to which you have really good materials published by universities.
There are relatively a few who know this.
To start with I can suggest:
    - http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/book.html (Ross' Anderson book is free, informative and suprisngly entertaining, this is a definitely a must-read for security/VPN).
    - Have a look at books recommended by Richard Bejtlich or Bruce Scheiner - while they might not be VPN specific it's a good security read most of the time.
I'll have a look at the books at home see which one can be interesting to read, and edit this post.

  • How to implement index array inside case structure for searching a 3D array?

Well I have a 3D array and I want to index certain elements from that array. And I have thought of one way of doing this is to have multiple index array functions on the block diagram to search the array simultaneously, but that would be messy. Or I could setup some kind of case structure and place each index array function into individual cases. I've tried the latter, but when I connect the 3D array to the case structure at the"?" it doesn't give me permission because it says I'm hooking up two different types of data. Case Structure is for T or F and 3D array is not a boolean.
So how can I setup the Case Structure to work for a 3D array?

A case structure's selection tunnel cannot accept an array.  What exactly are your search criteria?  It sounds like a few FOR loops will be needed.

  • What architecture is best for accurate data logging

    Hello,
I'm desiging some LabVIEW code for a standard DAQ application that is required to plot about 100 variables onto the screen on several different graphs and numeric indicators, as well as perform some simple feedback control and log data into a file once a second.
I've done this before, and used a simple state machine architecture, where one state takes care of my logging, and I have a timer vi in there that countsdown 1 second and then writes to file.  However, this method makes me miss a second every once in a while.
I started looking into the producer/consumer architecture as a possible remedy for this.  Because I hear it's good for running two things at different times, so I"ll have my quicker loop handling data acquistion, plots and feedback control, and my slower logging loop, executing once a second.  But I don't see how to implement this
    questions:
    1. is a simple producer consumer the right topology for my application?
    2. when I create my queue do I create it a 100 element array (my data for logging) and then enqueue that in my producer loop from my data acquistion, then pass that to the logging VI.... this seems wrong to me, cause I'm going to be enqueing alot of 100 element arrays... and will be de-queing them slowly at once a second..
    3. How do I trigger my consumer loop to execute every second, should I set it up as a timed while loop? or should something from the producer loop tell it to?
I'm sure this is a pretty standard thing to do, I'm jus tnot sure how to implment the correct architecture.
    much thanks!

Ok, let's try this.  I've put together an example that should do what you need.  I put notes in the block diagram, but essentially it runs data in a while loop at whatever execution rate you specify, then sends the data to another graph (or in your case, a log) every one second.  Basically, I've used a 100ms execution rate for the while loop, then every 10th time (you can change this if you want), it sends a boolean 'true' to a case structure within the while loop that contains the enqueue element.  The graphs that I included show that it does indeed add a new point to the second graph once a second while the first one is adding a point every 100ms.
The actual wiring of this Vi could be cleaner for sure, but it was a quick and dirty example I put together.  Hopefully this will help you accomplish what you're trying to do.

hello sir,i need labview code for a code which is written in matlab...

    plot(Hy,'r')
    hold off
    pause(0.001);
    n=n+1;
    end
    thanku

Well, this code is quite trivial and if you have to learn LabVIEW anyway, you might as well try to implement it.
    A few things to remember:
The first array element in LabVIEW has index #0, while in matlab it has index #1, so everything dealing with array indices needs to be adjusted slightly.
The zeroes function equivalent is "initialize array".
Keep the array in a shift register as you update elements.
    use FOR loops.
Use one of the graphs to display the data.

I'm Looking for LabView driver for Suruga-Seiki (Japan)motorized stage controller model D70, GPIB or RS232 (optional model D92).

    Hi,
Unfortunately, I was unable to locate a driver for your instrument. I would like you to submit a request for this driver at: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/instrumentdriverrequest/ and with the instrument manufacturer. We develop drivers based on demand and popularity so the more requests we have for it, the greater the possibility that we will develop one.
If you would like to try developing your own instrument driver (or modify the existing one), we have documentation, model instrument drivers, and driver templates to help at :

We also have a syndicate of third party vendors that specialize in National Instruments' products and services. Some of the vendors specialize in driver development. I would s
uggest contacting one of the Alliance members at:
    http://www.ni.com/alliance
An instrument driver is a collection of functions that implement the commands necessary to perform the instruments operations. In short, someone read the instrument user manual and implemented some of the functionality in a program for the end user. Instrument drivers are not necessary to use your instrument. They are merely time savers to help you develop your project so you do not need to study the manual before writing a program.
There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.
Some useful resources for your application are

I need to write labview program for data logging of temperature, voltage and speed of the bike. Can any one help me?

    Yes, we can.
I think the best place for you to start for this is the NI Developer Zone.  I recommend beginning with these tutorials I found by searching on "data log rio".  There were more than just these few that might be relevant to your project but I'll leave that for you to decide.

Getting Started with CompactRIO - Performing Basic Control ->  http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/11197
These will probably give you links to more topics/tutorials/examples that can help you design and implement your target system.

  • Work around for Excel's array formulae?

I have an Excel spreadsheet which I have built over many years to manage maintenance tasks of my boat. I would like to convert this to run on Numbers. Unfortunately I can't find a work-around for Excel's "Array Formulas".
The column headers of my spreadsheet contain maintenance tasks (plus data on how frequently by days or engine hours these jobs need to done). When I complete a maintenance task, I log the date and engine hours in a new row with an "x" to signify that the job is done. Excel then looks up the date/engine hours when each job was last done (ie the lowest "x") and then uses conditional formatting to highlight the column headers of which jobs are overdue. Is there a work around for this in Numbers?
I attach an image shot of my Excel spreadsheet which may help:

    Hi Rich,
    Some made-up dates.
If you have multiple x's in a column, change all but the most recent to "Done" or something other than x This approach looks for the date in Column A that matches a single x in a task column.
This example works on years. I hope you change your oil and filter more often .
One Header Row and four Footer Rows. Enter Years between services (D9) from the keyboard.
To find the date of the last service (the only x in Column D)
    D10 contains this formula:
    =INDEX($A,MATCH("x",D,0))
You can Fill Right to other columns.
"Years since" (D11) contains this formula:
    =YEAR(TODAY())-YEAR(D10)
    "Alert" (D12) contains this formula:
    =IF(D11>D9,"Hey, You!", "OK")
Conditional Formatting in D12 sets the text to red if it equals "Hey, You!"
It would be best to combine these steps into one complex formula. Numbers is slowed down with each Header or Footer in a Table.

  • How do I make a labVIEW program for a linear CCD camera?

Hi, I'm pretty new at LabVIEW and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to connect my linear CCD image sensor (Toshiba TCD1304AP) with my computer. I know I need a DAQ device, what would work best for this particular CCD? After I got that connected, I need to create a LabVIEW program that displays the light detected by my CCD. Does anyone have a similar program or template I can use as a model? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,
I'm not sure the type of signal that is generated as an input to a DAQ device. This could either be an analog or digital input. The signal type will determine how you make your program in LabVIEW. You will also need to correlate the signal level to the light detected. That will be determined by your sensor. I don't have any programs or templates for this, but if you look at the basic analog or digital input examples, you might get a good starting point for DAQ device programming.

  • Creating a Labview VI for controlling an Atmel at32uc3a1512 device.

I have a custom device that has a USB port and an ethernet port,
This device (and it's USB port) are controlled by an atmel at32uc3a1512.
I have an old version of Labview (V8.2) nd I would like to create a VI to communicate and pass data
back and forth with an Atmel at32uc3a1512 but I am not sure how to create a driver for this with the MAX utility.
The device shows up in my Windows XP control panel as a USBLib device...
Any direction, suggestions,  or links to examples or whitepapers on this is appreciated
    thanks

    Hello Japper,
If you would like to attempt to communicate to the Atmel at32uc3a1512 as a device using USB, then the following tutorial should be useful. This details how to use NI-VISA to communicate with a USB device, however this requires detailed knowledge on how the device sends, receives, and processes data.
    USB Instrument Control Tutorial:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4478/en
If you are attempting to write LabVIEW code that will be deployed to the Atmel at32uc3a1512 as a target then that is a whole different set of needs. This device is not an officially supported target, and would require a significant amount of modification and tweaking in order to get this to work, if it is possible. The best resource that I can provide for that would be this guide on how to port LabVIEW to ARM devices. I understand that the Amtel at32uc3a1512 is not an ARM device, however this would be the closest guide that we have for porting LabVIEW as a target VI.
