Is my GT780R overheating or is it fine?

when playing diablo 3 my cpus is about 80-87c at max and my Gpu max 90c and that is after 30mins play it runs okay still some FPS bugs in the game but mainy is it dangerus?

Overheating is not good for the CPU or gpu. Full stop.
Consider getting a laptop desk caddy with fans on it. This should help cool down the processors, msi did not build the case properly.. ... The gx600 was badly designed.
If u still get heat problems consider getting rid of it because sooner or later it will die. Laptops are not made really for gaming, the more stress u put on the CPU and Gpu the quicker your reducing it's lifespan
My new HP 6560b is a great step up! Has icore 5 , 16gb max out, ati gpu and more than happy to run battlefield 3 at medium settings on low, apparently this game needs a GTX 580 to really get ultra settings....

  • Multiple Problems:Black Scrn+StartUp Repr=HD NotFound+UnabletoAccessBIOS(BootsToFast)+CD/DVDDrive

    Hi guys,
My problem looks like a combination of several individual problems I have found here in this useful forum. It all started with an overheating fan. One fine day when I restarted my computer, it gave me a message saying there was a problem with startup because of 'recent hardware/software changes' and recommended me to run the startup repair. I did. It took almost an hour to get to the startup repair options page after staying totally black (mouse functionality available). Then when none of the options it gave worked, I tried Out of the Box Repair. That did work. But the computer became really very slow even though there were no significantly memory hogging programs on it yet.
Then a few days later it did the same - showed me startup repair issue message. I tried getting to the Out of the Box repair again but it did not let me. I thought I should clean the laptop first. So, I went in and carefully cleaned the fan. Got lot of dust out of there. I noticed the thermal paste was all dry but went ahead and put it all together. When I fired it up again, it was very quiet like new but still did not let me get to the Startup Repair Options window. Remained all blank (this time - no mouse functionality available). I decided to let it remain in that state. then after about 3-4 hours it decided to show me the StartUp Repair window. I tried Out of the Box repair again but this time it tells me HD Not Found! All this while I'd noticed the HD light was solid bright. Right after it showed HD Not Found it turned off!
Now, the first time it 'crashed' and showed me the Startup Repair message, I'd tried reinstalling Win7 through USB (since CD/DVD Drive does not work). To do that, I'd gone into BIOS to prioritize USB port but I also messed with Bootup speed. I made it 'Fast' from 'Normal'. And now I couldn't access boot at all with any of the F keys.
I am determined to make use of this forum in taking my next step. If you guys think the HD might not be receiving enough power or maybe the motherboard is messed up then maybe I'll need to buy a new laptop. Oh also, the soundcard is messed up too. Audio Out works not Audio In (Mic) does not.
I tried a few solutions mentioned here and there but then most of them didn't apply to my problem since I couldn't get one thing or the other to work. I have the thermal paste ready to use.
Please advise on next plan of action guys.
    Thanks.

  • Re: CPU core temperatures

I just received my laptop back from being serviced due to GPU overheating. It seems fine now in that department, but it would appear that the company which Toshiba employs to service computers in Sweden messed up elsewhere. Now my CPU core temperatures are even higher than before, fluctuating from 50 C (centigrade) when the computer is idle, to quickly rising to 80-90 during processor load. When I play, for example, Batman: Arkham Asylum, CPU 1 is 99C and CPU 2 104 C.
It would help me a lot if some of you guys would tell me what temperatures your computers run, CPU-wise, during heavy loads and also how quickly temperatures fluctuate between high and low temperatures. I just need to open a minor application and my CPU temps spike from 50 to 90, as mentioned above. I can't see how that is acceptable. I just might have to send the computer back, and it took them over 3 weeks to fix my first problem.
    Best regards,
    Johan

Thanks guys. I am using Toshiba drivers and the notebook is placed on a clean, flat surface. What concerns me is how quickly the CPU heats up slightly over 100 degrees centigrade. We're talking about less than a minute, and sometimes only a few seconds to reach 90. The GPU is fine after the service I mentioned in the original post.
However, I really appreciate your feedback and I will get that device to clean out dust. :) Oh, and I spoke to Toshiba's support and they said they can't discuss results yielded by 3-rd party software, such as Nvidia's System Monitor. Instead I am to stress test the computer, battry fully charged, and see if it turns itself off after having suffered high temperatures long enough.

  • GF4-4400, WinXP, and Artifacting

    So lemme paint the picture:
Got my MSI GF4 Ti 4400 last October or so and loved it. Everything was going great, 80-90 fps in CounterStrike, etc.
Then my HDD crashes just last week with errors in the boot sector, so I need to get a new one.  8o
In the process, I decide that I might as well upgrade to WinXP Pro (had been using 98SE before), since I need to do a fresh install anyway.
Now, graphical artifacting and glitching abound in all my D3D and OpenGL games (much worse in D3D). Funky colored textures, irregular random splotches, the works. 2d desktop, login, BIOS screens are all perfectly fine.
I've tried the latest drivers from nVidia (41.09), the latest drivers from MSI, the drivers that came with my card in the box, and several other sets. I've got all the updates to XP installed and working, and I've just recently installed DirectX 9.0 .... nothing has helped.
I simply don't understand what is causing these artifacts in game. I know it's not overclocking or overheating, and it ran fine under 98SE, so I don't see how it could be a PSU issue. To me, it seems to be driver/software related, but I haven't found the answer yet.

I don't see how that can make a difference, since it ran fine under Win98SE ... it's not like XP can "draw" more power. My hardware is the same (replaced HDD), the only thing that's changed is my OS.

should i reset SMC... would it help?

I'm doubtful it's a missing driver too, but I feel as though it's driver related. The first time XP was installed, after first boot without installing drivers, it was without sound etc, but fundamentally the system worked. Now after first boot, it's very buggy. Thanks for your suggestion Tonny. I ran the tool but it turns out the HDD is fine. Besides, everything runs fine in safe mode.
Does anyone know if (generally speaking) there is any firmware on the graphics card that would get updated via a Windows update? i.e. is it possible that Windows update downloaded a driver for the graphics card that installed new firmware that wasn't all that compatable with XP?

  • Blackberry Playbook Overheated but works fine, screen is dark from edges about 1 inch and the rest is a light color

    Hi,
I woke up this morning and tried picking up my playbook but it was very hot and also still charging, then I took it off of charge and I let it cool down. The playbook turns on and functions fine, but the screen is dark from around the edges (about 1 inch)  and then light from the inner side. Also I never took my playbook into the sun or any other hot place and I think my factory blackberry playbook charger might be at fault. I didn't get any notification or any other type of hint from my playbook that it was hot or overheated. My playbook was turned off when it was charging and my bedroom was cool because of my A/C and ceiling fan. I don't understand how this happened and how can I make the screen go back to normal, It has been about 1 hour now and nothing has changed about the screen.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My Playbook is fine now, the screen is normal again and the charger was at fault, but charge your BB playbook when itis turned on because my playbook was off and overheated and this was overnight. Also I resolved the screen problem by leaving it in a cool room in my home, and the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) crystals were probably just very hot and they had to cool down also the battery life is still the same . But the BB playbook is fine and works fast, also I still have all my files and every function work perfectly. I wrote this from the BB playbook.

  • K7N2 Delta Overheating

I have the K7N2 Delta board (rest of system specs are in sig) and after about 45mins-1 hour of gaming, my system locks up and resets.  After lock up, if i go into bios, my sys temps usually read about 59-64 degrees celcuis.  I was having this problem with the stock fan/hs, so i bought the Volcano 12, figuring that would solve the problem.  Didn't, only gave me about 1hr-1 1/2 hours before lock up at lowest RPM setting (2100), and only about 10-15 mins longer at highest RPM setting (about 5600).  I have the same problem when I run 3d 2003 test, it goes through the first set of tests fine, but when I get to the first CPU test, my system locks.
My idle temps on the CPU are about 45-52 degrees celcius, case temp is in about 38 celcius.  I read in other posts that it could be due to TOO MUCH thermal goo on the chip, but how do I know how much is too much?
Aside from overheating, what else might it be?
If I leave my system idle, it can go for days with no hint of a problem.  It's only when I start gaming (America's Army, UT 2k4 demo, BF1942) that I get problems.
Also, I ran memtest, RAM is fine.

Wonkanoby:  Ya, I know I need new RAM, but I'm on an incredibly tight budget now, so it's gonna be a while till I can afford some (basically, I haven't had a job in 8mths).
DeathStalker:  I tired what you said, opened up the side of my case, put a Vornado house fan on high speed facing my mobo, and the temps did drop quite a bit (with HS/fan @5600 RPM and idle CPU=41celcius, Sys=28celcius.  @2100RPM and idle CPU=44celcius, Sys=34celcius).  I decided to run the 3dMark2003 this way, with HS/fan @5600 RPMs, and I got through the first CPU test, but then they system crashed again.
So it seems that the extra cooling helped, but still wasn't enough.
Any suggestions on how to cool my system with out putting a house fan in there?  I already have 3 80mm fans (1 front bottom intake.  1 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust).  I have room for 2 more 80mm fans (1 front bottom intake, 1 rear exhaust), but I don't think that would help cool the CPU all that much, would it?  I thought the TT Volcano 12 would help with cooling a lot, but it has only provided marginal imporvements.
Also, could it be that I am overstressing my RAM, and that is why I'm having these problems?
    Open to any suggestions.

  • Satellite A505-S6973 overheating and fan works often

I hate doing this but I seem to have encountered another problem which i have been searching and reading with the hopes of correcting myself. I presently own a Satellite series laptop with an Intel Cor 2 Duo T6500 2.1Ghz processor.
I 've been monitoring my system for performance issues andi've noticed that for sometime (unsure when) the temperature on my system has risen significantly. I'm seeing from my PC Health Monitor that my processors temperature is running at 59% and fan speed is at 78% yet when I place my hand near the cooling fins at the side of my laptop I can barely feel any breeze but a co-worker of mine has a vostro and the fan feels like it's running on NOs.
If there is anything that can be done I'd greatly appreciate this, i'm afraid of loosing my system due to something simple that cause overheating.
N.B. I noticed that at one time different users posted threads stating that after updating there BIOS they experienced overheating problems. If this is the cause of anywhere near it please help.

Are you sure that your notebook is overheating?
In my opinion you cant compare this with other notebook models because every notebook has its own cooling modules and fans and there are not standard parts as on desktop computers. Furthermore its also important which form factor your notebook has. Larger and bigger notebooks have a better cooling assembly as smaller ones.
Anyway, in my opinion you could try cleaning your notebook using compressed air spray. This should always be done from time to time to blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators. Therefore its not necessary to disassemble the notebook.
    Check this!!!

  • How they can say it's fine when there are so many problems?

I've had my Macbook barely a month, but I've taken it to the store twice for diagnostics, called Apple.com 3 times, erased and reloaded everything, and still have numerous issues despite being told 'it all checks out' and a 'replacement is not indicated'...it has more problems than my 6 yr old Compaq desktop...
It started 20 hrs after purchase when, aften shutting down, the sleep light apparently came on and overheated the computer. It could only be turned on again after taking out the battery. This has happened 4 times, despite being sure I'm proprerly signed out and the screen is dark before shutting. Then once it woulnd't boot up - just showed muclitple colored verticle lines...a call seems to have handled that, but the result is irregularly being able to access the internet, whether thru Safari or Firefox. The address shows in teh URL line but hte screen remains white and blank. Occasionally it freezes in an email, is very delayed in receiving or sending something or loading a page. It's not MSN or my DSL as my old computer is managing this well. It's been very frustrating as all my Mac firend told me how great they were...but I'm afraid this new version with the intel processor has bugs to get worked out. It's at the store as I speak and they tell me it checks out fine, tho I've spent hours dealing with each new bug...and I'm trying to start a business and can't afford the time these issues are taking! Any suggestions? REading the others comments, it doesn't sound like I'm the only one, but am not sure how to advocate at this point.

    A few comments/suggestions:
It started 20 hrs after purchase when, aften shutting
down, the sleep light apparently came on and
overheated the computer. It could only be turned on
again after taking out the battery. This has
happened 4 times, despite being sure I'm proprerly
signed out and the screen is dark before shutting.
I've seen a couple of posts complaining of sleeping MacBooks not really sleeping and becoming very hot when closed. What others have suggested is making very sure that the sleep light is pulsing, to make sure its really asleep, before closing the lid. This is if your intention is to put the machine to sleep, not shut it down completely.
Your use of the term "signed out" makes me wonder if you mean "logged out". Once or twice I have seen my machine pop up a message after I try to log out, that some process has hung, and it refuses to go further. I would imagine there could be a problem if you close the lid in this state. (The process that syncs iDisk was the culprit in the instance I remember.)
If you've completely shut down the machine, I don't know how it could turn itself back on unless there's truly a hardware problem.
Then once it woulnd't boot up - just showed
muclitple colored verticle lines...a call seems to
have handled that, but the result is irregularly
being able to access the internet, whether thru
Safari or Firefox. The address shows in teh URL
line but hte screen remains white and blank.
The refusal to boot up and instead show colored vertical lines is allegedly a problem with OS 10.4.7, which may be permanently fixed by the next OS release.
To temporarily get it to boot, reset the PRAM/NVRAM by holding down the cmd-option-P-R keys while restarting until it chimes twice.
If the problem recurs, to make a fix that "sticks", once you're booted up, change your screen resolution to something else and back again. This writes to PRAM. This has worked for me.
Occasionally it freezes in an email, is very
delayed in receiving or sending something or loading
a page. It's not MSN or my DSL as my old computer is
    managing this well.
If you're running many applications, especially CPU-hungry ones, with limited memory, you might have delays as your email or browser pages in and out of memory. However, I don't notice this on my machine with 512MB, like yours, running several typical apps at once. Running anything under Rosetta, like MS Office, will chew up memory.
Depending on your network hardware, you might try isolating to see if the problem is in your network setup. For example, if your DSL is connected to a router, try a wired ethernet connection straight to your DSL modem and see if the problems go away. Then work logically backwards.
The previous post from nazdarky is describing the "random shutdown problem", but I didn't get from your post that this is one of your problems.

  • IPhone 4 battery draining quickly // Overheating

    Hi!
So I got my iPhone 4 late August, and everything's been going fine up until last week.
I have the ios that is right before ios7 (I think 6.1.5), I didn't install as I've heard bad reviews.
I woke up at 9am today. By 11:30am, it was down to 20%. It gets very hot within 20 minutes of it being turned on.
I have my wifi off, 3G is always on, brightness is at about 25-30%, I never use mail / calenders.
It's really only started since I've been leaving Clash of Clans open so I don't get attack, but it happens to all apps now aswell.
I've tried turning off / on, restoring, anything that's been suggested but my battery still drains too quickly!
    Here's how my day goes:
I go to school at 8am. I use it on the train, and class starts at 9am. I use it for taking notes as my laptop is broken. By lunchtime (12:30pm), it's already all used up and I have to charge it, which I don't like doing as it can get stolen. By the time I get home, I have to recharge it, and when I go to bed I leave it charging for the night.
Would somebody be able to assist me? Thanks!

My Iphone 4s is overheating and draining the battery what do I do. I have done a hard reset and also reset to orignal settngs and it is still overheating and draining it's battery

  • I can't get my trackpad on my MacBook to click. It was working fine last night.

I'm not sure if its the battery expanding (but since it was fine last night), it could be the battery expanding.
Apple representatives told me that the battery expands to let us know the battery needs to be replaced and when it expands the enlarged battery  won't allow the trackpad to click, when your pressing it.
Clicks also won't happen when the area under the trackpad  gets dirty.
Does anyone know if there is a way to check to see if the battery is good without taking the MacBook apart?  Also, there is no error Exclamation Point, on the top right of the screen. That happened to my MacBook Pro, as well as an inability to click the trackpad.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, Sean

That's just not correct. Swelling in the battery is caused by overheating of one or more cells in the battery, followed an exothermic chemical reaction of the anode (usually lithium cobalt oxide). It can cause simple swelling or even complete failure in the battery (including fire). It is NOT something by design to tell us that the battery needs to be replaced. It is a runaway thermal process in the battery.
Minor swelling might be ignored with no further issue. When in doubt, have the battery checked by Apple or an authorised repair centre.

  • Firefox won't do the Master Password thing on mynew laptop. I have to eneter P/W's on each site i vist. it has worked fine on my PC, but even after i uninstall and reinstall Firefox, it still doesn't work.

i used to run the Norton password feature (it came w/ the new laptop) but now that i switched to McAfee, it doesn't recognize when i go to different sites. I've set up everything in the Mozilla menu (Tools, Options, Security, etc). it doesn't ask me of it want it to remember the password when log into Yahoo/Google/Facebook/etc)
i really like this feature and would like to figre out how to make it work. it works fine on my PC, by the way, just not on my laptop

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • BLACK SCREEN on start up with 3 beeps, FREEZES when power unplugged, IF IT BOOTS splash screen freezes, OVERHEATING REQUIRED TO BOOT - 0x7B, Event 41 kernel-power

Issue: One day I unplug the power, the screen freezes and I get frozen music sound. I shut down, start up, I get 3 beeps (1 short 2 long), which indicates a Video failure according to the Thinkpad Laptop beep code list.
How I solve the issue day-to-day: I turn the heat up - I disconnect the battery and hard drive and plug in the power then turn it on. I will wait until the underneath is searing hot with a blanket blocking the fan's flow of air, I mean way hot because any
cooler and it won't start. Plug stuff back in, Hard drive first, Battery second, turn off with power button hold, unplug power, replug power.
I turn it on, no beeps, it goes past the first Lenovo screen, then gives me a prompt because it "didn't shut down properly" and continue regular startup. What happens next is the Windows logo appears,
and just as the animated windows logo starts to move (you see 2 small colored dots on the screen), it freezes. I see this every time, I know naturally that it means that the laptop is still too hot to go past that point, so I shut it down and try again. After
about 5 - 10 tries it will go past the splash screen and into the login area, then it's all fine.
Sometimes when I unplug the power from the back by accident it will freeze. By accident I mean that the connector wiggles it's self out easily. This unplug freezing thing started happening about 1 week before the 3 beep black screen problem started rolling,
    so I'm putting 2 together.
           Errors:
I got a Blue Screen of Death the first time I started it up with the overheating ritual, but I never got it since. It was 0X7B.
I got another Blue Screen of Death about a week ago, but came as it was on already and I had been using it, and said something about disabling Cache or Shadowing in BIOS. I never got it since.
           Event Viewer events found:
    1. Kernel-Power, Summary page.
There are critical events for a few things like Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category (63). There are 19 of them, each day 1 or 2 of them but mostly 1, so this maybe corresponds to my daily ritual.
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
    2. Kernel-Processor-Power - Event ID 37, task category (7)
"The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."
    3. LMS - HCMI - Event ID 2, Task Category: none
"LMS Service cannot connect to HECI driver".
I came across a very sluggish performing control panel for Nvidia before and after this problem, and I tried installing a newer version, which I had to jump through a few hoops to do, like uninstalling first, not just updating. At first it said that the
driver wasnt for the system, which was wrong. I made it work somehow, but it was still sluggish. I rolled it back to an earlier driver, and now it works fine. No sluggish performance / slight freeze window thing going on.
MSCONFIG.exe, Boot Advanced Options: I have tried twice to change this 1 setting, check box "Number of processors" and change to 2 processors, because I do have 2 processors. I have been able to change
this in the past, but it does not save the setting now, and I believe this option was selected before I started having problems, and settings did not disappear then.
What could this be. The small round BIOS battery? The video card like everyone presumes? (I.E. the entire motherboard replacement), Software? The wiggly power input area? (Not enough power getting in?), Firmware of some sort? The BIOS software being wrong?
