Is OAS necessary?

I'm trying to setup XML Parser for Java v2.0 on NT4.0 SP5.
Is OAS necessary? If so, can I set it up on the same server?
Thanks,

Our XML Parser does not require OAS. You simply need a 1.1 or
1.2 JDK or JRE pointer to by CLASS_PATH.

  • Application Server : Forms and Reports Services

    Hello
Currently I have a three tier architecture in production for a client, running an forms and reports applications called HREF
    1. client browser with Jinitiatior, webutil running 10g forms and reports app,
    2. a 10g OAS with forms and report services and infrastructure components installed
    3. a 10g Enterprise Edition Database Server running a 16gb db.
There is a new dev environment to be made on a much smaller scale with the same HREF application but it will only be about 2GB of data at the back end.It has to be much more cost effective, so I am looking at both reducing license costs and scale throughout.
    So could I use........
    1. The same client browser with Jinitiatior, webuti running 10g forms and reports app, -- running fmx and rdf can that be free?
    2. Do I need a separate appliaction server install ? -- is OAS necessary , what is the most cost effective option (just install forms and reports services?)
    3. Can I use Oracle Express Edition 10g -- free to use
    Thanks for any help.

For development you don't need to pay license fees, so you could use Oracle Enterprise Edition as well.
Have a look at the OTN License agreement e.g. here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your application, and not for any other purpose. If you use the application you develop under this license for any internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or you want to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted under this agreement, you must obtain a production release version of the program by contacting us or an Oracle reseller to obtain the appropriate license. You acknowledge that we may not produce a production release version of the program and any development efforts undertaken by you are at your own risk. We may audit your use of the programs. Program documentation, if available, may accessed online at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.html.
Install Forms & Reports and the Database on Oracle Enterprise Linux and you won't even have to pay licenses for your OS.
    cheers

  • Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

    Hello,
I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
    1.
The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb/DD_defs_reference.html
So I use the one from 10 release in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
    weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
and form 9 release in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <weblogic-rdbms-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-rdbms20-persistence.xsd">
There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
    2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/
    EJBComplianceChecker - Spec veryfication level
    3. Now after EJB compliance checker done its job with success I have an exception that I do not understand:
An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
    Exception
    preparing module: EJBModule(corpo_ejb.jar)

    JDT compilation error!
Could you please give me some point where the problem could be? I don't have any idea where to start looking for..
What are your experiences with migrations from OAS to Weblogic 10?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Stoigniew Sztank,
I am working on migrating Enterpirse application developed using Struts, Ejb2.0, JMS. Its been deployed on OAS 10G and Websphere, but I need to deploy the application on Weblogic 10.3. It seems you have migrated a J2ee application from OAS 10G to Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that you followed to migrate the application.
As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
    1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
    1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
    1.4 Resource Adapter
    2) JMS queue set up
    3) JDBC set up
It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.
    Thanks and Regards

  • OAS/Oracle 8.0.5(EE) on Redhat 6.0

Has anyone out there been able to get this working?
    If so how?
I have tried different configurations and none of them have
worked. Oracle is running fine, but the OAS is not.
The OAS will start and connect to oracle to add the necessary
packages, but when I make a call to the application it starts
the it but does never returns any data. Then after a while the
    listener dies.
I and others have added the patches and recompiled the kernel as
noted in other listings. (ps and process limits)
I am a developer using the OAS for Solaris, so I have a clue on
how to implement this product. I think Oracle is having a
problem getting its products running on Linux.
    null

Actually Oracle 8 EE runs fine on Linux as far as I've seen.
But, its the OAS v4.0 that we're having problems with here. We
extensively use the OAS to dynamically render web pages using
the PL/SQL cartridge, which I haven't been able to get to work
yet. I've been up and down the documentation, and I use the OAS
at work on a Solaris platform. It would be nice to setup cheap
Linux servers running oracle 8 and the OAS 4 for
development/testing machines, but without the PL/SQL cartridge
working, we could not use it for testing our applications.
When I try to connect to an application using the PL/SQL
cartride on the OAS, my browser just sits there forever waiting
for data to come back, but nothing ever happens. If I look at
the active sessions in oracle, there is a session there for the
user I have setup for the OAS, so it seems to be connecting to
oracle. If I setup the PL/SQL cartridge to force the user to
enter in a login name and password, I never get prompted for
that authentication information and no connection is ever made
to the database. I hope that this is a known problem at Oracle,
as I saw that they said they will be releasing a patch for the
OAS for linux. However, I can't believe that the OAS could have
been released "broken" and is being sold. Its not just a little
bug, its that the PL/SQL cartridge flat out doesn't work. I have
yet to determine, and would like to know, if this problem is
with the OAS itself, or some weird problem of the OAS running
under the RedHat version 6.0 system. I have even tried setting
the owner of the wrks file to root and setuid'ing it to make
sure there is no permissions problems.
If anyone has been able to get the PL/SQL cartridge working, can
you please tell me if you did anything outside of the normal
installation process and fixes mentioned on technet to get it to
work? And also what your system config is.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Query ON ORACLE AND OAS UPGRADE PLAN

Currently we are running Oracle Server 7.3.4 Under Unix (SunOS5.7) with access to a Sybase 12.5.0.1 via Oracle-Sybase Transparent Gateway 4.1.1.0.0.
For the web services, we use OAS 4.0.8.1. Our web applications are based on Javascript and Oracle PL/SQL to generate HTML.
We plan to upgrade the Oracle Server from 7.3.4 to Oracle 9iAS version 9.2.0.1.
    Our quetions are :
    1) Is it necessary to upgrade OAS 4.0.8.1 to Oracle 9iAS?
1a)If we have to upgrade then which version of 9iAS (9.0.2, 9.0.3, 9.0.4)is compatible?
1b)what change, if any, do we have to make to our exisiting applications(Javascript, HTML and PL/SQL-generated HTML) (we understand that the application logic would not have to be change in any
    way. Is this so?)
    2) Are Oracle Server 9i and Oracle 9iAS Application Server compatible with the SunOS5.7 Unix or is an upgrade to a later version necessary?
    3) Do we need to upgrade the Oracle-Sybase Transparent Gateway if we upgrade the Oracle Server to Oracle9i and if so, to what version?
Please confirm that Oracle9.2 has a Gateway to Sybase 12.5.0.1 that will support the features of 7.3.4 gateway (i.e it is downward compatible to 7.3.4
    gateway).

Not real sure if this is doable or would help, but perhaps you can load the access table into an Oracle Global Temporary Table? See http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/8i/TemporaryTables.php (and google on it). I think I'm assuming your 11 hour query had something to do with shovelling a bucketload of data to the access side, perhaps if you could show us the plan on the Oracle side that access was generating to get the Oracle data there might be a different answer.
Oftentimes cross-db tools won't use Oracle features like analytics, or do slow-by-slow row processing where a short procedure could do things within the Oracle sql engine and return data in larger arrays.
Sometimes mass data cleansings benefit from using server side tools outside of the db. Do you have the data from before it was loaded to Oracle? What Oracle platform are you on?

  • Does PHP 5.1.2 that comes shipped with OAS 10.1.3.4.0 support DOM/XML?

    Hello,
We have installed OAS 10.1.3.0. PatchSet 10.1.3.4.0. It comes with PHP4 by default and the Oracle HTTP Server. We did the necessary instructions from Metalink and the README on how to enable PHP5. We can bring up Apache with no issues and phpinfo shows PHP 5.1.2. However, the DOM/XML is not enabled in this bundled PHP that came with OAS. Is DOM/XML supported? Is there an Oracle product that bundles PHP that supports DOM/XML? Thanks.

You would have to make sure the extension is enabled when you build PHP yourself.
"Installing OCI8 with Oracle Application Server on Linux" in the 2008 edition of http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/pdf/underground-php-oracle-manual.pdf has some notes on installing PHP on AS.

  • OAS 10.1.3 and 10.1.2 issues

Is it absolutely necessary to configure the 10.1.3 installation to have the 10.1.2 HTTP server serve up the pages for 10.1.3? What applications need to be added to the mod_oc4j.conf?
-Related to the last question… When we did the SOA suite installation and did Advanced install, we were asked for Cluster Topology parameters which we did not have since the Infra and MidTier are 10.1.2. Is it possible to integrate the 10.1.3 install for SOA suite into the 10.1.2 Farm or do we just need to access the SOA suite AS from its own enterprise manager?

    Hi jhale,
We have been testing Java 1.6012 on OAS 10.1.2.3 and CP6 for more than a month. With my testing, I have not noticed any problem. We originally were going to set-up the Java 1.6012 plug-in with CP5, but I was getting the following error:
"Entity Path [system/configuration] not valid. Check log to see if the PlugIn was loaded"
I submitted a service request with Oracle and they advised to apply CP6. I was doubtful about this solution and so I posted on this forum as I was troubleshooting the problem (Java Plug-in Update on Oracle AS In any event, I did apply CP6 on this test box and everything is working fine now.

  • Problems Connecting an OAS 10.1.2.0.0 to an DB 8i

    Hello
We have some problems connecting an OAS 10.1.2.0.0 to an Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.1 Database.
When the application is trying to establish the connection with DB, the following error is thrown:
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified.
We have cheked several times the NLS configuration in both OAS and DB, in which the NLS are established to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Do you have any LANG parameter at your environement variable ?.
if U have just remove it then stop your metadata+as including your 8i DB.
Then start all of them again & try to connect to your database.
If it helps it's okay, otherwise let me know so we can go further for some other solutions. it 'll be little bit hard but I 'm thinking of upgrade your DB will be necessary.

  • OAS 10.1.2 - Slow connection to Oracle 10gR2 DB

    Hi,
We have an application running on OAS 10.1.2.0.2 on Solaris 10 64bit edition. We have data sources configured to connect to a 10gR2 DB (10.2.0.4) using OCI drivers. When the application makes initial connection to the DB it takes 30 mins.... The application uses the OCI client library under <OAS_HOME>/lib directory. The server instance is started using the JDK bundled along with the app server.
We also have a separate Instant client installation 10.1.0.5 which is certified to work with OAS 10.1.2 and JDK 1.4.2_19 on the same environment. We have a written a Java program to test the DB connectivity through OCI... When we either use the OCI libraries on OAS or the instant client we encounter an error saying wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 error
We proceeded to execute the test program with -d64 switch to the java executable which cuased the program to connect instantly to the DB,
The question is the OAS, Solaris, Instant client all are 64 bit editions but the JDK that comes bundled with OAS does not accept -d64 switch and causes it to terminate immediately.
Can anybody tell me whether the JDK bundled with OAS 10.1.2 is 32 bit or 64 bit and does it cause performance or connectivity issues when trying to use along with 64 bit libraries.
    Thanks

  • Integrate OAS Portal with E1 - WSRP Producer

    Hello,
I want to integrate OAS Portal with E1. I am following: "JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release 8.98 Portal Reference Guide for All Portals and Platforms" and I have a doubt about how to register a new WSRP producer for Oracle Portal Server.
    I am working with:
    - OAS Portal 10.1.4 (integrated with Windows Server 2003 SP1)
    - JDE E1 8.12 Tools 8.98
    - Each one are in a different physical machine.
I am not sure what is exactlly WSRP producer. In the manual, it says that it is: JDE E1 HTML Web Server.
When I amb in the second step to register the new WSRP (Provider Description (WSDL)) I have the following error:
    "Internal Error *(WWC-00006)*
Unexpected error: *ORA-00932*: Inconsistent datatype waited an IN argument at position 2 that is an instance of an Oracle
type convertible to an instance of a user defined Java class has obtained an Oracle type that could not be converted to a java class *(WWC-35000)*"
In WSDL URL I have specified:
    http://HOST_E1:8083/jde/wsdl/WSRPService.wsdl
And if it is acceded via web browser, the result is:
    - <definitions targetNamespace="urn:oasis:names:tc:wsrp:v1:wsdl" xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns:bind="urn:oasis:names:tc:wsrp:v1:bind" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/">
    <import namespace="urn:oasis:names:tc:wsrp:v1:bind" location="local.wsdl" />
    - <service name="WSRPService">
    - <port name="WSRPBaseService" binding="bind:WSRP_v1_Markup_Binding_SOAP">
    <soap:address location="http:///HOST_E1:8083/jde/WSRPBaseService" />
    </port>
    - <port name="WSRPServiceDescriptionService" binding="bind:WSRP_v1_ServiceDescription_Binding_SOAP">
    <soap:address location="http:///HOST_E1:8083/jde/WSRPServiceDescriptionService" />
    </port>
    </service>
    </definitions>
    1) Is correct this result?
    2) In which file can I find the port number that I need to register the WSRP?
I am not sure about this port, but it is the number port to enter to JDE's Web (http://HOST_E1:8083/jde/E1Menu.maf)
    3) Is necessary to do any step before?
    Thank you and regards

I have found the following manual:
"Oracle® Application Server Portal Developer's Guide 10g Release 2" - Configuring Your Application Server to Run JPS-Compliant Portlets (including Data Sources's Configuration).
I have followed the necessary steps, but when I tried to test it (Registering and Viewing Your Portlet's Section (create a WSRP Provider)), I have the same errorr:
    Internal error WWC-00006
    Unexpected error ORA-00932
    WWC-35000
I have verified via web browser my WSRP Producer WSDL Page, and it is correct.
I have tested with different users (orcladmin, portal, etc), even I have included them in PORTAL_ADMINISTRATORS group. But it doesn't work...
Another thing I have tested is to apply 4640471 patch, although I am not sure it should be necessary, because in ReadMe file, it is only for Solaris Systems, and I am working with Windows Server 2003 SP1...
I am really desesperate with this error, do you have any idea to solve it?
    Thank you and regards.

LISTENER FROM OAS I AM GETTING OWS-08801 ERROR. WHEN I
attempt the same from windows nt start service i am getting
internal windows nt error even though rest of serice of oracle
    have started.
I have changed class path but still not successful. I have
started the developer server in port 9000 and seem everthig
is fine except the Forms Listner.
Anybody could help me out . Apprec. in advance.

    Hello all,
The OAS is known not to start listeners as an NT service. Set
all the OAS services to manual EXCEPT the nodemanager. Then you
will need to start the rest of your site from a command prompt
    "owsctl start" will start everything.
For the ORB process failing to start "owsctl stop" then "owsctl
clean" will usually do the trick.
    Hope this helps.

  • OAS 4.0.7 installation failure

I installed the OAS 4.0.7 and Oracle 8.0.5 on the same directory
(g:\orant) using NT SP3 but when I try to start the ORB

    the message
ORB is not responding. Please restart manually...

    Brian,
The only thing I did to solve the problem (as you have said) was
to install IE5 and surprise!!!! the orb process started
    successfully.
    Thanks a lot,

  • Servlet Chaining and OAS 4.0.8.1

I am using the Request Dispatcher Concept for my application where a servlet either initiates a bean or calls another servlet. I believe I cannot test it from JDeveloper. But does OAS 4.0.8.1 support servlet chaining. Very Critical. if yes? Please let me know where I can find the necessary documentation.
    Thanks

    More info ...
I enable logging and found the following error
Unable to initiate threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread.

I suggest you to try Hello world example first.
Installing Jservlet application and catridge is not a problem at all as long as you follow the procedure given.
I used JDeveloper to create a JServlet. You may go to 'sample code' section of the OTN to see the procedure to create JServlet.
set the virtual path / physical path correctly.
Sometime, it is necessary to reboot the system. System keeps some information in the buffer and keep giving old pages.
For example, we created a JServlet with a message 'Hello World'. It worked fine.
We changed the program to display 'Hello Jay World'. We continued to get only 'Hello World', not 'Hello Jay World'.
When my friend suggested me to reboot the machine, I did it with a little bit of hesitation. But, it worked.
I have installed 8i, OAS in one system and working in the same system.
