Is Power Adapter Wear & Tear Covered by Applecare?

Like when the wires are exposed.

Well we can't say what is and isn't covered. But I would say that if you have been pulling on the cable, and not removing the cable properly, and not giving it slack, learn that those wires are more fragile than you think. There is this article:

Call AppleCare is the best advice I can give. This being a user to user forum, we can only guess based on our prior experience with AppleCare. Some have had more luck than others, though it may be due to extenuating circumstances. Speak with them about it and they'll tell you yes or no.
Good luck!

  • If you lose the power adapter is that covered under AppleCare?

I lost my power adapter and cord and I have AppleCare. Will apple cover and if they do will it fulfill my contract and make me in eligible for any further service using the replacent plan.

Exactly.  Here is a link to the Apple Accessories site for iPad.  The charger is $30.

  • Genius told me that my power adapter was NOT covered under warranty. ?????

Not too happy with my Apple store as of late. First I bring in my defective iPhone power adapter for a replacement and was told I had to schedule an appointment with a "Genius". I guess it takes a genius to plug in a power adapter and see that it doesn't work. Of course the next available appointment was 2 days away. So....I leave, make an appointment, come back 2 days later and the Genius tells me that the power adapter is not covered under warranty. Is this correct???? This is crazy. He actually told me that I could just buy another one there for $29 or find one on Ebay.
I don't even really have much use for the power adapter, but I find it very hard to believe that it is not covered under the same 1 year warranty as the phone.
    Is this true?
    Thanks.

I have had to deal with the "genius bar" for 4 weekends straight now, with one more weekend to go. All to simply get my Apple iPhone bluetooth replaced. They gave me a refurbished one which was still broken, and they didnt know how to even use their own software to do the rma. So far my worst experience with a store in a very long time and I have no plans of doing business with Apple through one of their "genius bars" ever again. Heck, I had to show the so called iPhone genius how to pair the headset with the phone. Quite pathetic.

  • Macbook Pro 13" power adapter

I bought my Macbook pro 13" from someone around Christmastime last year (who bought it only a few months prior) and it works great. However, my power adapter is dying and my AppleCare and warranty are up. It's very finicky and only works about 10% of the time anymore. It's the newer model of adapters that are round and thinner than the old flat rectagular adapters. Could I buy the older model for my Macbook and it'd still work? Or do I have to buy another newer model adapter?
    Thanks!

I recommend getting the one designed for the unit to ensure long-time reliability.

  • Power adapter stick stuck in logic board

    hello,
recently, I unplugged my power adapter from my powerbook and the "stick" of the power cord got stuck the the power adapter port.
I have AppleCare, sent it out on dispatch, and was informed that it is considered "accidental damage" and that I must pay for the replacement of the ENTIRE logic board.
has this happened to anyone before? I know that accidental damage is to cover common accidents, but I don't think unplugging my power adapter qualifies as an accident.
I'm not a happy camper about this one...
    thanks!
    powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4)

I was browsing the boards looking for a suggestion for a replacement for the power brick adapter for my daughter's G4 1.5Mhz Powerbook and I passed by your post.
This exact thing happenned to my daughter's machine in May of 2005 - about 9 months after we purchased it. We also had AppleCare on the machine. I took it to the local Apple Store here in Atlanta and it was sent in under warranty for repair.
In the symptoms field of the Problem Description/Diagnosis section the tech at the genius bar wrote the following: "Power adapter is stuck in the DC-in board. Unit will power on. When on the power adapter is not recognized and sleep LED remains solid while unit is awake. It does pulse when unit is asleep."
Under "Identify components you believe failed" the tech wrote DC-in board and power adapter.
In our case the "stick" was stuck but we could not remove the cord. Couldn't tell from your post if the "stick" broke off your powercord. It wouldn't surprise me given how weak the cord is at this stress point. We did not want to try pulling hard to get the "stick" out. Noone at the Apple Store could get it out either. Sounds like you had a similar problem.

  • HT1941 is the power adapter covered under apple care?

mine seems to have frayed over time. The computer is still under apple care.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If it came with your Mac, it's covered by AppleCare, so Apple will replace it for free if the power adapter is broken

  • Is the power adapter covered under Apple Care?

I wrap the cord on my power adapter about twice per day going between home, school, and work. Consequently, the power cord has begun to fray where it comes out of the white power supply. Is a replacement power supply covered under Apple Care?

    Dorianj,
I would be interested to hear what Apple says regarding warranty coverage for your power supply. I had a slight, but annoying, problem with my Powerbook G4 adapter where the two-pronged wall adapter would not stay rigidly straight in the wall socket. Result was that it would slide out of the wall socket and lose its connection. I called Apple under my extended Applecare warrantly and they said that a replacement (only $10 anyway, but still...) was not covered as the problem was related to my use and handling. The tech on the phone conceded that if I had said that the adapter wasn't working it could have been replaced under the warranty. Of course he said he couldn't change the information on my "case" once that was entered.
Hope this experience is hellpful and please post back on your results.

  • My power cord was damaged by accident. Is this still covered by AppleCare?

I accidentally split my MacBook Pro's power adapter cord after it got tangled up within my living room recliner. I've got the AppleCare three-year warranty; is this damage covered under the warranty?

  • Adapter covered by AppleCare?

The adapter to my 14-month-old macbook seems to be going a little crazy lately - sometimes it doesn't charge when the battery is in, or the light flips from red to green over and over. If I bring it in, is it covered under AppleCare? Or does its warranty end when the first year is over? Does anyone know?

The AC adapter is covered with either the original warranty or an AppleCare Protection Plan if you bought it with the MacBook.

  • Power brick covered under AppleCare?

I'm having some odd issues that seem to be the fault of my power brick (but who knows?). If I leave my PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz machine plugged in for 10+ hours or so, the computer will stop recognizing that it has power. The light goes out from the ring where the cord plugs into my powerbook, and the battery slowly drains if the machine isn't asleep.
Unplugging and plugging back in the power cord doesn't work. The only thing that works is unplugging the power cord from my surge protector and plugging that back in. Or, removing the brick extension cord and reattaching it to the brick.
Has anyone had similar problems and/or know if the brick is covered under AppleCare?

the power unit is covered by the same warranty/applecare cover that applies to the device it came with
from your description imho it is more likely that the power unit is faulty than that a fault with the pb is causing it to shut down

  • Terrible AppleCare Phone Support RE: Power Adapter

The jack on my 45W power adapter snapped off and is stuck in my PowerBook, i've had the PowerBook four months.
I have the Applecare' protection plan so I rang the number in the applecare book up as it's obvious they need repairing, I wasn't going to attempt any DIY removal of the pin in the PowerBook myself, incase I void my 3 year applecare plan.
After waiting 20 Minutes my call is picked up, and I realise it's coming from India. I dont have too much against call centres in India, some of them like Hutchinson Three Mobile are very good, but I was dissapointed that paying extra for applecare didnt get me through to a localised UK/Ireland call centre.
After explaining the problem to the member of staff and being told it's a common problem, i'm instructed to take my PowerBook and adapter 47 Miles to Warrington, again, i'm dissapointed as when my 4G iPod died within its standard warranty, apple sent a box and return envelope by courier.
Especially as i'm paying extra for applecare etc.. Plus I don't drive, and even if I did, it'll be a week before I'd be able to go.
I had to argue with the member of staff that I couldnt make the journey and that if it was another four miles it would be out of Apple range car or not and i'd have to mail it in anyway. After far too much to-ing and fro-ing he has a word with his superiors and I can mail it in, the box and replacement power adapter will arrive in 2 days. This should be standard.
The box arrived today, along with a power cord. A Power Cord. Not an adapter. A cord. It's not even A PowerBook cord, it doesnt have the plastic piece at the end with the notch that slides onto the Adapter to secure it in place.
I phone applecare again and it's got worse, on hold for the same as before, and I have to give the staff member my details over and over, spelling things out etc.. It's very fustrating, all to get a replacement 45W power Adapter.
The database was slow at getting my data, i'm not sure they use Macs there you know.
After waiting, they've no idea why I got the cord instead of an adapter.
I go through a very slow process spelling out all my details, Again. So I can get an adapter.
I get told that they will send out the adapter and when I recieve it I should send the broken one back.
I've been on the phone for 45 Minutes, i'm really fustrated, and the staff member asks for my credit card details in case I dont send the faulty adapter within 10 days. Trouble is, it has to be a credit card and I dont own a credit card. It can't even be the debit card I payed for the goods with, even after talking with her superiors. I have bought six items from Apple in the past year on that card: OS X, iPod, Wireless Mouse, PowerBook, Mini DVI - TV adapter and the PowerBook Applecare.
I was then told that I could borrow a friend or family members card and use their details, but I couldn't do that at the time (and I believe counts as credit card fraud).
I got told to take it into my nearest Apple Store (60 Miles), specifically an Apple store where they would replace it, not a reseller, and to have a great day, goodbye. I spent 45 fustrating Minutes for absolutely nothing, i'm back to square one and extremely unhappy with Apples phone support.
I dont think I was calling Apple, I think I was calling a generic call centre.
This phone support has made me upset and extremely dissapointed at Apple very much. I buy Apple computers and invested in the Apple'care' protection plan because I was under the impression that Apple would offer excellent customer support for the money. Apple is very lucky I am on the plan, because if I had to pay for that call, i'd be livid as well as the above.
I just don't get how this fell off the radar of a company that manages everything else so well.
The phone number I called was 0870 876 0753, is this really the Applecare number?? I hope I made a mistake.
    Mike.

Hah! Of course I am not going to boycott Apple or do anything silly like that.
I bought my first Apple product (a MacBook Pro) in January from the website. It is unfortunate my first customer support experience has left a semi sour taste in my mouth. To pretend I am not disappointed about be given +the run-around+ by a trained representative of the company would be a lie though.
I have been a lifetime MSDOS/Windows user and I am a former website programmer (on the Windows platform). Now that I am a stay-at-home dad I decided to replace my dead HP laptop with a MacBook Pro because of Apple's reputation of high quality hardware, software, and customer service. It took a couple of months to get used to, but I am now thoroughly enjoying my Mac experience.
Templeton, again thank you for your suggestion.

  • Is the power adapter covered in the 3year extended Apple Care?

Is the power adapter covered in the 3year extended Apple Care?
I've only had my MacBook Pro around 18 months and the power adapter has split (exposed wires) even though the charger has never left the house and has stayed plugged into the same plug socket every since i've had it.
Is this something Apple would fix/replace under the 3 year expended Apple Care Warranty I have paid for?

You could call and ask considering your description.

  • HT1349 Is the Apple Magsafe 2 Power Adapter covered under Apples one year warranty?  I cant figure out how to check the date.  The serial number is to long to enter.

I need help finding out warranty information on the Apple Magsafe 2 Power Adapter.  When I enter the serial number, it is too long for the box.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I got this from my father.  It looks like it is an aftermarket package and not something that came with the original Mac. I will try to attach a picture of the item box and the barcode label.  The actual part number is MD506LL/A .

  • Power-conservation of 'screen dimming' v. wear-&-tear on display

While I don't usually mind the MacBook's screen's auto-dimming feature(except in extended viewing situations), is the battery-saving effect of the dimming preferable to the presumable wear-&-tear on the screen resulting from the frequent brightness on-off alterations?
Also, is there a way to dimming under real-time control so that you can switch b&f between having/not having automatic dimming without having to keep opening System Prefs. each time?
    Thanks.

I don't think you should worry about wear an tear from dimming. It is just a change in the current level and that shouldn't do any damage.

  • Power adapter question (T410 2537-DN1)

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask.
    Thanks in advance,
