Is SSRS 2012 compatible with SQL Server 2014?
Will it still work if a DW database is in SQL Server 2014 but the reporting services is in SSRS 2012?
Very likely. If not, probably will be at the next service pack.

RDS 2012: Compatible with SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn?
Is Remote Desktop Services 2012 R2 compatible with SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn Availability Groups? Are there any procedural documents available for RDS requirements on how it expects AlwaysOn to be configured?
ThanksHi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, we can install SQL server 2014 on RDS Server 2012\R2, you can check below article with step by step guide.
How to install SQL Server 2014
In addition for SQL AlwaysOn Consideration there is useful blog (RDS 2012 SQL AlwaysOn Considerations) you can go through for details.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 compatibility with SQL Server 2014
Due to a requirement to use Sharepoint without Active Directory access. I am trying to find explicit confirmation whether Sharepoint Foundation 2010 is compatible with SQL Server 2014. I have seen that Sharepoint Server 2010 and 2013 are compatible
with SQL Server 2014 as of CU 1 (released in April). But there is no mention of Sharepoint Foundation.
This chart is great except it doesn't mention whether the Foundation versions are supported.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492257.aspx
Thanks.Note that that is for the Reporting Services component, but not necessarily for the SQL Database Engine component (which comes from the SharePoint Product Group, rather than the SQL Product Group). I haven't seen any confirmation that SharePoint 2010 is
supported at all with SQL 2014 as a Database Engine.

DB-Library BCP issue with SQL Server 2014
Hello,
My application uses DB-Library (ntwdblib.dll) to communicate with SQL Server 2014. We are having issues calling bcp related functions like bcp_init which always returns FAIL status. Our application was working fine with SQL Server 2012 and all other previous
SQL releases. But we are getting below error in SQL 2014,
msg 4801, state 1, severity 16 : Insert bulk is not supported over this access protocol.
Can anyone please help ?
Thanks,
HimanshuHi Himanshu_kus,
Is this still an issue, or can we close the thread?

Is there a way to trick MS Service Manager 2012 to use SQL Server 2014 when installing it?
I recently set up a virtual Lab on my laptop. I dont have much resources on my laptop and can only have around 5 servers. the problem is that i already set up SQL Server 2014 standalone and configured all of my services to use that server which works
fine. however when i try to install MS Service Manager 2012 it throws "SQL has to be either 2012 or 2008" error ..
is there a way for me to trick the Registry so Service Manager will install?
Thank youI don't know a trick to install SCSM 2012 on a SQL Server 2014. But maybe you can use a SQL Server 2012 for installation temporary and move the db after installation is done to your SQL Server 2014?
Moving the Service Manager and DW Databases
Might be worth a try. But it's definitely not recommended for a productive environment!

Sql server 2005 reports with sql server 2014
Can i upload SSRS 2005 reports as it is on SSRS 2014 and use it without doing anything extra or without changing anything ??
I can use SSRS 2005 reports as it is with SSRS 2012. But for SSRS 2014 not sure.
h2007You can upgrade the the RDL schema will be upgraded.
Report definition (.rdl) files are automatically upgraded in the following ways:
When you open a report in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), the report definition is upgraded to the currently supported RDL schema. When you specify a SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 report server in the project properties, the report
definition is saved in a schema that is compatible with the target server.
When you upgrade a Reporting Services installation to a SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services (SSRS) installation, existing reports and snapshots that have been published to a report server are compiled and automatically upgraded to the new schema the first
time they are processed. If a report cannot be automatically upgraded, the report is processed using the backward-compatibility mode. The report definition remains in the original schema.
Reports are not upgraded when you upload a report definition file directly to the report server or SharePoint site. Upgrading a report definition in SQL Server Data Tools is the only way to upgrade the .rdl file.
After a report is upgraded locally or on the report server, you might notice additional errors, warnings, and messages. This is the result of changes to the internal report object model and processing components, which cause messages to appear when underlying
problems in the report are detected. For more information, see Reporting Services Backward Compatibility.
For more information about new features for SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services (SSRS), see
What's New (Reporting Services).

Will Report Builder 2012 Work with SQL Server 2008???
Simple question really
Will Report Builder 2012 work in conjunction with SQL Server 2008???
Is it worth while upgrading?
The main reason i ask is the ability to export in an xlsx format
ThanksHi Gmach,
The version of Report Builder on SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS) 2012 is Report Builder 3.0. The Report Builder 3.0 manufactures 2010 RDL reports, so it only works with the version of SQL Server 2008 R2 or later. So in your scenario, we can no connect
to SQL Server 2008 Server using Report Builder that on SSRS 2012.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

How to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to SQL Server 2014
I am trying to restore a database backup taken from a SQL Server 2012 instance to my new SQL Server 2014 instance. When I add the .bak through the Mgmt studio UI, it does not seem to find a backup set in the file so I cannot proceed (does not give
me any errors though either. I tried restoring through TSQL command but only got a database restore terminating abnormally error with no other details. How can I restore this database to SQL 2014?Hello,

Upgrading from SQL Server 2012 Standard to SQL Server 2014 Standard Failover Cluster
Goal: To upgrade my default instance from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2014 in a failover cluster.
Given:
1) Operating System Windows 2012 R2
2) 2 Virtual Machines in a cluster with SQL Server as a Guest Cluster resource. The two VMS are called APPS08 and APPS09. They are our development environment that is setup similar to our production environment.
Problem: When running the SQL Server 2014 upgrade, I started on the VM that was not running the instance. I then moved onto upgrading on the node that was running the instance. As soon as the install attempt to failover the running instance
an install error occurred that it could not failover. After many install attempts I consistently received the error
The SQL Server Failover cluster instance name 'Dev01'
already exists as a cluster resource. Opening Failover cluster manager there is no record of a DEV01.
New Strategy: Create a SQLCluster called DEV07. At the end of the Install I get 'Resource for instance 'MSSQLSERVER' should not exists. Neither I nor my Windows 2012 guy understand what Resource the install may be referring to.
We do not see anything out of the ordinary.
Any suggestions as to what Resource may be seeing the default instance would be greatly appreciated.Hi PSCSQLDBA,
As your description, you want to upgrade the default instance in SQL Server cluster.
>> 'SQL Server failover cluster instance name 'Dev01' already exists as cluster resource'
This error could occur when there is a previously used instance name which may not be removed completely.
To work around the issue, please use one of the ways below.
1. At command prompt, type Cluster res. This command will list you all the resources including orphan resources. To delete the orphan resource, type Cluster res <resource name>/delete.
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
http://gemanjyothisqlserver.blogspot.in/2012/12/sql-2008r22012-cluster-installation.html
2. Delete DNS entries, and force a replication of DNS to the other DNS servers.
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
http://jon.netdork.net/2011/06/07/failed-cluster-install-and-name-already-exists/#solution
>> 'Resource for instance 'MSSQLSERVER' should not exist'
This error could occur when you already have MSSQLSERVER as a resource in the cluster, which may not be removed completely. To work around the issue, you could rebuild the SQL Server cluster node.

Installation of SCCM 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014 error
Hello All,
I am attempting to setup SQL Server 2014 and SCCM 2012 R2 but I keep running into an error stating that "Configuration Manager requires Microsoft SQL Server
2008 SP2 w/ CU9........ all the way up to Microsoft SQL Server 2012 with CU2 or higher." I am using all evaluation versions for this configuration as we are looking to test and evaluate the products. I was trying it with SQL 2014 because I was running
into the same error with SQL 2012 and according to "http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2015/03/30/updated-sc2012-configmgr-sp1-and-sc2012r2-configmgr-support-sql-server-2014.aspx" SQL
2014 is supported with SCCM 2012 R2. SQL is installed locally on the same box.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tucker
Update: When running the Pre-Req check these are some of the failed returns.....
SQL Server Edition: Failed: Configuration Manager primary site and central administration site don't support SQL Server Express Edition
Not sure why it is recognizing SQL Express as this is a new machine.
SQL Server service running account: Failed: The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE. You must configure
the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
For the SQL Service I am using a domain account created specifically for this. This has nothing to do with moving or restoring. The kb article says "This hotfix provides updated versions of the setup files and enables new installations
of the System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager site database role and the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 site database role in Microsoft SQL Server 2014"

We have replaced a SQL Server 2005 with a SQL Server 2014 (new physical server.) Have the new server set up to use SQL Server login OR Windows user login. Had old server connecting (for a particular DB) to front end Access (2010 or 2013) as guest for
anyone logged into the Windows NT Network with a read only ODBC connection. Have the DB in the new server set to include guest as db_datareader (with only SELECT permission for the securables of each table and view being linked) but when any Windows user not
specifically listed as a SQL DB user tries to use the front end they get an error of:
Microsoft SQL Server Login
Connection failed:
SQL State: '28000'
SQL Server Error: 18456
[Microsoft][OCBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user {domain\user}.
After closing that pop-up window a server login window appears. Of course, since the guest user is not specifically listed as a user in the DB that fails also. It seems like there should be a very simple solution to this, but I can't seem to find it. I want
to allow anyone logged in on the Windows system (locally) to be able to open the MS Access file (on their work station machine) and run their own (read only; select) queries on the SQL Server database. Any suggestions?
Thanks a billion in advance ----Thanks for the response Olaf. I have now spent weeks researching this. I realize that using the guest account in most situations is not advised. As mentioned, I have restricted the guest account to allow the db_datareader role only, and have explicitly denied
all other roles, as well as allowing select only, and still have no access for the guest account.
The suggested fix in the second link you provided, of using Windows groups is not plausible for my situation either. We are a scientific field research institution, with a few long term users and lots of users that may have Windows accounts for a few months,
and then they are gone. It would be a nightmare for the network tech to try to keep a group account up to date, and we need to give access (read only, of course) to anyone logged into the system. Realize that the ONLY access of any kind to this database is
thru MS Access ACCDB, using a (by default) read only OCDB connection.
This type of access is used particularly because researchers need to be able to set up their own queries, and the MS Access query interface is particularly convenient for people who are not themselves SQL experts, yet are trying to get some very advanced
levels of output. Putting the database online is not practical because then we are back to the need for a comprehensive query interface, and just picking up general subsets of the data online (from a basic web page search feature) would be out of the question,
since the result set would involve hundreds of thousands if not millions of records.
So - that said - what exactly would you suggest, assuming we don't have the funds to buy a whole new system, and have spent plenty of money with Microsoft's Enterprise level MS Office so that all work stations have MS Access, and Microsoft's SQL Server,
as well as running our network on Microsoft's network software. -
Error in VS2010 when connecting with SQL Server 2014
I have SQL2014 Express installed locally but it is not detected by VS2010. Why would I need to have the 2008 version?
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdev/archive/2010/05/03/visual-studio-2010-support-with-sql-server.aspx
It proably only goes to SQL 2008. I don't recall pointing VS2010 to SQL Server 2012 either.
Maybe, you should post to the below fourm.

IS ODI 10.1.3 compatible with SQL SERVER 2008?
Hi All,
Doews 10.1.3 work with sqlserver 2008? I have a sqljdbc4 driver listed in my driver folder, but I can't seem to get a connection when I am testing the connection.
ThanksDon't forget that ODI 10g has a bug in predefined connection string for SQL Server, and you'll need to check\correct it. We use ODI with SQL Server 2008, and everything is ok.

Hardware Requirements for a SCCM 2012 CAS with SQL Server Remote
The hardware requirements for a CAS server with SQL Server Enterprise locally installed are:
16 cores (Intel Xeon L5520 or comparable CPU)
64 GB of RAM
1.5 TB of disk space for the operating system, Configuration Manager, SQL Server, and all database files.
Does anyone know what the hardware requirements are if SQL Server Enterprise is remote from the CAS server? It's not listed. -ShaneEven though I am going to be strung up for even saying this, I do agree there is a use for a CAS outside of 100,000 users. If you do indeed have distinct admins managing their own images and apps in remote
locations then I see the benefit of a CAS. A remote ConfigMgr console connecting to a primary site would perform poorly. Admin A at the primary site would not experience any issues but Admin B would be in for a lot of work and waiting. Any
time Admin B needed to add an app or image it would have to be copied up to the remote primary site and then distributed back down. This is not the best scenario.
There are scenarios in company merger situations (and others I am sure) where the management of both locations has not been consolidated down to one location yet and is not going to be done as part of the deployment or upgrade. If you had a 2007 environment
it is going to be very hard to convince the admin at the remote location that this upgrade is going to be a good thing for him/her. There is an option for the remote admin to RDP into a server in the primary site but the image and apps still need
to be distributed down to the remote location. During testing this can be very time consuming.
I do agree that adding a CAS adds additional complexity but in some cases such as the one I described it is the right decision.
Thank you for the reply. And i totally agree that in some cases a design like that is a necessary evil (but not by our personal wants).
We had that design with 2007 (implemented before my time), and as you predicted EU admins complained about difficulty using the console RDP-ed into a box close to the primary site. The bandwidth to and from different regions is out of scope for me so I do what
I can with what I have. We too will be moving forward with a CAS hierarchy.
Administratively the other IT depts in other regions operate on their own. I dont handle any of the EU computers on a day to day basis whatsoever, etc. We're not merging but our IT shops operate with near independence. -
Data types not compatible with Sql Server 2012
HI All,
I need to know what are data types which were present in sql server 2005 but are not in sql server 2012.

RahulHi vaibhav
Thanks for help. Actually my requirement is that I have one database on sql server 2005 version. I am planning to migrate it to sql server 2012 version. I want to publish a list of all objects across all databases which cannot be replicated to sql server
2012.How can I do this. Are there any data types which were in sql 2005 version but are depreciated in sql server 2012
Regards
Rahul
yes there are
but why not look at here for breaking changes
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143179(v=sql.110).aspx
The deprecated features would still work though new development using them is discouraged
