Is symbian or windows mobile better to access mac shares via vpn?

I am considering a smart phone purchase in the next few months, and I would like to be able to browse my server via vpn from the phone the same way I can with my Palm LifeDrive. I think Symbian or Windows Mobile are my best OS choices for a phone, and I was wondering if anyone has actual experience with this. Do they use PPTP or L2TP? At this point, the iPhone cannot edit documents, so it is not a consideration, but I am also curious if it allows for this type of remote browsing through a VPN.
Thank you for any help that you can offer.
Michael

I have done some more testing and oddly enough I can map a drive if I use the IPaddress, but not the computer name, when checking the check box "connect using different credentials"and providing they users domain credentials.
This seems to point to a DNS issue, one would think, but I can hit the file share server by name \\fileserver.dev.lan
I can see all the shares, so dns seems to be fine right?
So I don't understand why I can map a drive using do the IPaddress and not the machine name, but yet I can see and ping the server by name?
When I try to create a mapped drive by machine name I receive the following message:
Windows cannot access \\fileserver.dev.lan\all
You do not have permissions to access \\fileserver.dev.lan. contact your network administrator  to request access.
But if I use the \\x.x.x.x\all using the very same user and password I get connected with no problem.
This only seems to happen on windows 8.1, which leads me to think that has something to do with OS.
I am thinking about upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, but I don't want to go though the hassle and expanse is the OS is not the problem.

  • Window 8.1 system unable to access network shares via VPN connection

Is there something inherent to Windows 8.1 that prevents it from accessing shares on a domain?
I know that it cannot join a domain, but does that also mean that it cannot access shares which are on a domain?
My problem is that I have several user that are running windows 8.1 that are connecting to our network via a VPN.
The users have domain accounts but their computers as windows 8.1 cannot joined to the domain.
So to access network shares they have to use their domain credentials to create a VPN connection.
Once connected the user can RDP to systems on the domain using their domain accounts, so I know that their user names/passwords and permissions are correct. They can access these systems using the computer name, so I don't feel that I have a DNS issue.
They can see the shares on our file server, but when they try to access their departments shared file, they receive an access denied message. There are a few shares that are completely wide open, shared to all users and all departments but they cannot access
    those shares either.
You can ping the file server, from the the client when they are connected to the VPN but you just cannot access any of the shares.
    So...
I am thinking that it has something to do with windows 8.1 and not being able to join a domain, but I cannot find anything to explicitly support this thought.
Other users running a variety different OS (windows 7, OSX, Linux) can all access the shares without any problems via the VPN, so I am a little stumped.

  • Windows Mobile Device Center Accessing Device Through Hyper-V

I want to be able to connect with a Windows Mobile Device through Windows Mobile Device Center, within a Virtual Machine.  When connecting through the Hyper-V Manager and through Remote Desktop, under "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices",
I can see the Symbol USB Sync Cradle.  In the VM, in Device Manager, I don't see a USB connection.  In the VM, I don't see any meaningful errors in the Event Viewer.
Host:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Hyper-V on a Domain.  Upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro.  When this computer was originally installed with Windows 8 Pro, Hyper-V was enabled.  I removed Hyper-V, and installed VMWare Player, because I wanted
USB Pass-through.  I then uninstalled VMWare and installed VirtualBox.  Recently, I uninstalled VirtualBox, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and enabled Hyper-V.
Virtual Machine OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 on a Workgroup.  Started out with being a VMWare VM, using VMWare Player.  Moved to VirtualBox.  USB Pass-through was working in both those virtual environments.  Used Disk2VHD to convert the
    VM to a VHDX file.
    On the Host:
Windows Mobile Device Center is connected to a Motorola Windows Mobile Device (MC959X) sitting in a Symbol USB Cradle.  The OS on the scanner is Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 Classic CE OS 5.2.29217 (Build 29217.5.3.12.26).  Advanced Networking

    Enabled RemoteFX.

  • Unable to access secondary subnet via VPN

I am having a problem with clients accessing a secondary subnet via VPN.
Clients on VPN are given the address on the 192.168.15.0 subnet. Once connected they can access 192.168.16.0 (Production subnet) fine, but are unable to access the 192.168.8.0 secondary subnet. If you are on the 192.168.16.0 subnet in the office you can access 192.168.8.0 subnet fine. The traffic is coming in via an ASA 5510 then traverses a Juniper firewall and a MPLS router to the secondary subnet. I'm not sure if it's a nat issue or not. Any help would be helpful.

  • Unable to Access Company LAN via VPN

    Hello,
I have a ASA 5505 that I have been using to test run the IPSec VPN connection after studying the different configs and running through the ASDM I keep getting the same issue that I can't receive any traffic.
The company LAN is on a 10.8.0.0 255.255.0.0 network, I have placed the VPN clients in 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 network, the 192 clients can't talk to the 10.8 network.
On the Cisco VPN client I can see lots of sent packets but none received.
I think it could be to do with the NAT but from the examples I have seen I believe it should work.
I have attached the complete running-config, as I could well have missed something.
Many Thanks for any help on this...

As you can see, I did create a new pool, since you already have an interface in the 192.168.10.0/24 network, which does affect the VPN clients.
Once you are done, connect the client and try:
    ping 10.8.127.200
    Does it work?
Try to ping other internal IPs as well.
Let me know how it goes.
    Portu.

  • Can't access management interface via vpn connection

    Hi all,
I can't seem to be able to manage my ASA 5510 when I connect via vpn. My asa sits at a remote colo, and from my office i can connect fine. I have it configured as management-access (dmz), bc as of now we are just doing some staging and all the servers are in the dmz interface.
When i connect with the vpn client, in the routes it sees 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 which is the management network/interface.
For some reason I can't get access to 192.168.1.1 to use the ASDM.

  • How to use jcifs to access SMB share via webdynpro app ?

    Hello All,
I am trying to access a protected intranet share via my webdynpro application. I have uses jcifs api to access the jcifs functions. However, I am stuck with running the application on webAS as it gives a runtime exception  java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jcifs/smb/SmbFile .
I included the jcifs jar into a lib project and also deployed it onto the j2ee engine. Compilation works fine now, but it fails it runtime. Can someone please tell me what is the best way to use external libraries i.e jars in one's application so that it has no runtime errors on j2ee engine ?

  • Accessing a subnet via VPN session

    Hi everybody.
I have not to much experience configuring and managing VPN´s and at this moment I am facing a bit issue. I've got a remote site which is connected to the headquarters via VPN site to site IP Sec tunnel. When I am in my office I have no problem to reach the remote network, but, when I try to connect to the remote network via VPN client, I can't reach it.
in the remote office I've hot a Router 3800 (Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3845-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(13c), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)) in the headquarters I've got an ASA 5520 Version 8.0(3) I've chequed access-list, and network objects and it seems everythink ok.

  • Having trouble accessing wikis & blogs via VPN

After I connect to our server via VPN when I'm outside of our network, I'm having trouble getting wiki and blog pages to open up. Currently I'm using the internal hostname to pull up the pages: ajax.private (we used the .private domain because it is an internal server only).
So, when I type in: ajax.private into the browser, the page starts to load and I can see the graphics starting to load, but it never finishes loading. Likewise, if I try and access the pages using the server's internal IP address, the same thing happens. Am I doing something wrong here?
My other services like ichat and ical are able to access and authenticate using the FQDN of ajax.private

You'd have to provide a lot more details of the setup to have any hope of a useful response. You don't even say what kind of VPN it is. What does the network admin at work say?

  • Windows machines unable to access smb shares

I know many people are having problems with smb on osx server, but my issues seems very basic, so I will try to ask for help here.
Basically, I have set up a single folder for sharing on a Mac Mini running OSX Mountain Lion Server. Directory services are provided by a WIndows 2003 server, and I have joined OSX Server to that, and am able to see all AD users and groups correctly. I have checked the boxes specifying I wish to share as afp, smb and webdav and also made shares accessible to guests.
Now, if I use a mac client, I can correctly browse the afp and smb shares, and the latter work via finder and smbutil as expected, including access via AD users, connection and file transfer.
If, instead, I use a windows client (I tried both Win7Pro and WinXP), while being able to ping the osx server machine, if I try to "explore" (entering \\hostname in explorer) the shares I get a "Network error: impossible to access ..." (approximate translation, sorry ). I tried both using the hostname and the ip address, always getting the same result.
If I try via prompt with "net view \\hostname" I get a System Error 53 (Unable to find network path).
Does anyone know if I am doing anything wrong?
    Thanks
    Christian

I have done some further testing, and I can report that occasionally, I am able to connect from a windows 7 professional machine by issuing the following command:
    net use z:\\hostname\share /user:DOMAIN\username
mostly this command returns a 53 system error, but sometimes I am asked for the user's password and am then able to access the shared folder for a brief time.

  • Windows computers can not access smb-shares in Lion

I have updated von SL to Lion Server. Now, I don't gave Access to my Windows shares from any Windows Computers. If I connect a Windows share u.e. froom Windows 7 Workstation I will see a window with username and password for the share. But the username und password from lion for this share will not work. It was no problem in SL. Any idea?

To get this to work on windows 7 I...:
    Start > Computer
Disconnected my mapped netowrk drive that would not connect
Selected the Map network drive button in the toolbar at the top
Typed in the folder location manually (if you try the browse it will fail)
    Selected Connect using different credentials
    Selected Finish
On the credentials screen that pops up:
User name: <SERVER\username>I found that my server name had to be in capitals (/private/var/log/krb5kdc/kdc.log helps you know exactly what it is)
    Password: <your password>
    Select Remember my credentials
    Select OK
After this i found no issues access any of the shares on the server and everything came back to life

  • Is Windows really better than a mac at running APPLE Software!!?!

Up until a month ago I was a whole hearted Windows user but after a play and some heavy convincing I decided that I would invest in my first Mac; a top-end Mac Mini with and upgraded 2gb RAM...great I thought!!!!
Once I got it set up and updated (running OS X 10.4.9) & Itunes 7.1.1 I set-up my ipod with Itunes and all could not be smoother!!
    Too good to be true.....YES!
I connected my Ipod up and it showed up on the Desktop...great...so I loaded Itunes and it wasnt there?!? So after some searching on the Net I reset my ipod....and hurray it now shows up in Itunes....however when it goes to sync I get a message saying that "not everything can be synched because the software on my ipod is too old"....it does however still show as synching a vast majority....however when unplugging the ipod the files its just spent the last 5 minutes synching arent there!! Confusing!! So I go to the summary page as instructed and try to do either a software update or a restore but the options are greyed out!?!! So I reformat the Ipod....still the same problem!!!
As a last ditch effort I plug it back into my windows machine....up pops some message boxes saying that it is in Recovery Mode, Do you want to restore? Do you want to Sync? And hey presto....My music is back and everything is working again!!!
I was planning on getting rid of my PC and getting another Mac but now I am wandering whether I need to keep it to update my ipod and anything else I find!
Anyone had any similar problems or know what my issue with Itunes on the Mac is?! I find it quite odd how it is smoother on the PC than on the MAC as it is Apple Software!!!!

I managed to resolve this problem by completing an Archive Install of Mac OS X as one of the Itunes Kernel files was corrupted.

  • Accessing .mac mail via windoze vista mail

Could someone please tell me what IMAP settings I need to put into Windows Mail in Vista to access my .Mac mail.
    TIA
    Alix

    From .Mac Support...
About setting up other email programs
You can use any standard email program to read your .Mac Mail messages.
To set up other email programs:
Open your email program and set up an account that uses:
Your .Mac member name for the account name
Your .Mac password for the mail password
quot;mail.mac.com" for the POP or IMAP server
Your ISP's SMTP server for the outgoing mail server
If your email application supports authenticated SMTP, you can use "smtp.mac.com" as your SMTP server. This allows you to send mail from locations where you cannot use your ISP's SMTP server.
Mac OS X Mail supports authenticated SMTP and is set up to use smtp.mac.com for .Mac Mail accounts by default.
Note: Some ISPs restrict access to the TCP port (25) used by SMTP. If your ISP is blocking port 25, you can use your email application to change the port to 587 and try again. If you continue to have trouble sending mail using smtp.mac.com, switch back to your ISP's SMTP server.
For information on using a web browser instead of a desktop email program to access your .Mac Mail messages, search .Mac Help for "reading email."
    Hope that helps.

  • Cannot remotely access mac mini via Chicken of the VNC post recent updates

Hi, updated my remote mac mini A running OS X 10.4 with QuickTime 7.5 for Tiger and AirPort Utility 5.3.2 Tiger yesterday. I can connect from my mac mini B via ssh into the mac mini A, but for some reason Chicken of the VNC will not work (it was working prior to the updates). I get the following message "channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused" in the command window when I try to get access to the computer via Chicken of the VNC and Chicken of the VNC itself tells me that the connection is refused.
Any suggestions? How can I remove the AirPort Utility 5.3.2 Tiger which I assume is the culprit? Thanks
(mac mini A is miles away, the only access I have is via the command window)

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the tip!
