Is the QT JPEG2000 implementation lossless or not?

When exporting from quicktime with the depth set to "millions of colors+" and the quality slider set to "best", is Apple's implementation of JPEG2000 completely mathematically lossless?
Or is it only visually lossless?
I need to find documentation that proves we can use Quicktime's JPEG2000 to losslessly compress government video records. Lossy compression is not an option and there are many records so compression is mandatory where possible.
Has anyone been down this path before or can point to where I can find the documentation? I have searched the forums and the www but cannot find anything concrete.
Thanks in advance...

Firstly I truly appreciate all of your responses and the time you took to research them.
I take it there is no documentation available for the quicktime implementation of the JPEG 2000 codec? I could not find any either.
The specific answers I need in written documentation for a government report are this:
Is the JPEG 2000 implementation in quicktime consistent with the Motion JPEG 2000 (often referenced as MJ2 or MJP2)? It is an open ISO standard and does not employ temporal or inter-frame compression. Each frame is an independent entity encoded by either a lossy or lossless variant of JPEG 2000.
As highlighted earlier I am specifically interested in LOSSLESS compression.
Thanks again for your responses David, Klaus and Kirk but:
David your statement "I would say since the codec uses the name jpeg that it's lossy." is mostly true but this isn't always the case, please see below. Again I am looking for where the documentation is located, so I can PROVE what you are saying is correct or not.
Klaus I disagree with your statement "No jpeg compression is lossless" and one of the reference links you gave "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_2000" also contradicts that statement. That is unless you specifically mean the Quicktime implementation and not jpeg in general. This is exactly the information I am trying to discern but I need documentation to substantiate it.
Kirk "Any export could introduce additional compression of your source format." This is true but not so if I export uncompressed video as uncompressed video for example. If you can point to where the documentation says the Quicktime implementation of "JPEG 2000 is an "image" format (not a video compression codec)" I would love to see it, otherwise it is just an opinion - albeit a good and very likely correct one!!!
Being a mac fanboy I WANT to employ quicktime JPEG 2000 but unless I can PROVE with documented evidence QT JPEG2000 IS lossless for government archival use, my hands are tied.
An example of a company that does use JPEG2000 lossless today is Samma Systems: http://www.sammasystems.com/
Is there written documentation that Apple's implementation of JPEG2000 is mathematically lossless or is it only visually lossless?
Apple??? ISO??? Anyone???

  • Creating the BAdI implementation: se19(OSS note )

    Hi Experts,
I have to apply a Note 1330434 ( FBL5N: Performance improvement by changed selection.) in our ECC.6.0.
    The 1330434 note says,
    Solution
When you implement a new BAdI in the line item display, the selection logic can be optimized. The system only reads the clarification case attributes for the line items that are also displayed.
    Import the specified Support Package.
To implement the correction instructions manually, proceed as follows:
    1...
    2. Implement the corrections in accordance with the correction instructions.
    3. Creating the BAdI implementation:
    Call transaction: SE19.
Under "Create Implementation", choose "Classic BAdI".
    BAdI name: FI_ITEMS_CH_DATA
    Implementation name: FDM_AR_ITEM_ATTR_GET
Implementation short text: FSCM-DM: Selection of attributes in FBL5N
    Activate the implementation.
How to do the third step --> .."3. Creating the BAdI implementation: " ?
    when I go to se19,
Under "Create Implementation", choose "Classic BAdI"... give FI_ITEMS_CH_DATA or FDM_AR_ITEM_ATTR_GET
and then press button 'create impl.'
then it says  "Badi definition FI_ITEMS_CH_DATA does not exist."
I struck up at 3rd part of the note (BADI creation/implementation part of the note.).
Please suggest me how to apply this Badi part of the note ?
YOUR HELP WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!

Are you sure this note is for your system. I am also working in ECC6. I checked but I couldn't find the defibition too. Make sure note is for your component version and if it is report this problem to OSS.

  • How to implement an OSS Note if you only know the key??

    Hi,
I wanted to know if we can implement an OSS NOte if we only know the SSCR key.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
You can implement an OSS note through transaction SNOTE.
Just download the OSS note from SNOTE and it will automatically be inserted in the standard code.
If you are not able to download the note check for the note correction given.
Implement the note correction in the standard program after getting access key.

If you do not lock that folder immediately after deleting all the contents, it will simply populate again (Resume - a "feature" in Lion). You do that by doing a Get Info (highlight folder and press Command + I keys), unlock the lock at the bottom, enter your admin password, then check the box to lock the folder. lock the lock and you're done.
Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

    And, for the OP:
It has also been a regular feature of Mac OS to automatically open any window that was open at shutdown. To avoit that behavior, simply close any Finder windows and  properly quit applications by closing their window and using Command + Q (or File >Quit).
This was true only for the Finder. Prior to Lion, no other apps would launch unless they were included in the Login Items for the account. And the OS would not restore windows for other apps.
A very small number of apps (TextWrangler is an example) implemented this capability prior to Lion. They could restore previously opened windows. But that is an application feature, and can be controlled by the application's preferences. Lion implements it at the system level, and users have virtually no control on a per application basis.

  • How can I enter data in an input schedule on a member in the EPM Add-On that is not a base member?

    Hello, all,
how can I enter data in an input schedule on a member in the EPM Add-On that is not a base member?
E.g. I want to implement a top-down-planning scenario and I have the following hierarchy:
    Europe
         Germany
         France
         UK
         Spain
         Italy
How can I enter a value on Europe in an input schedule in order to allocate this value afterwards?
Thanks in advance and best regards
    Gerd

    Gerd,
It should be something like below -
    EuropeInput
    Europe
         Germany
         France
         UK
         Spain
         Italy
EuropeInput shall be kept out of hierarchy and should be a base level member. Users will enter the numbers in this member. In your script logic, you will make use of this member to allocate the data in Bas(Europe) i.e. Germany, France, etc.
Effectively, after allocation the same data will be rolled up to Europe.
Many top-down planning would use such work-around as BPC doesn't allow writing to parent node.

    Ashish

  • I would like some help in determining the proper structure/implementation

I would like some help in determining the proper structure/implementation for the following scenario:
I have ~10 steel rods that have been equipped with a strain gauge.  The most I would have is ~30 steel rods.
Each setup has had a 10 point calibration done.
These steel rod/strain gauge setups are assigned a calibration number.
The data would be grouped for each steel rod and identified by the calibration number.
I would like to use that calibration data to determine the Young’s Modulus for each steel rod and store that within the specific rod’s information.
I want the user to be able to add new steel rods dynamically and the Young’s Modulus calculated and stored with it.
There are two different types of rods.
The cross-sectional area of the rod needs to be stored and that value is constant based on the rod type (so there are two different area values).
After a rod’s calibration data is entered the first time, the data should be static so it doesn’t need to be re-entered.
The user would enter the cal#, the 10 point calibration data, and the rod type.
The user will only see the steel rod cal# on the FP.
I am using a queue-based producer/consumer with event structure for the front panel interface.  So I’m thinking whenever a rod cal# was added I would call a subvi where the calibration data can be entered and then the Young’s Modulus could be calculated and stored.  An option to edit/review existing cal data should be available.
    LabVIEW 2010, Win 7.
    My initial idea was:
Rod Arr – array of clusters:
    Rod Info - cluster:
    Calibration number – string
    Rod Scale cluster:
    mV/V – double array
    force – double array
    Young’s Modulus – double
    Rod type – enum
    Cross-sectional area – double
I have not implemented this because I’m not sure how to implement that AND keep the data after it’s been entered.  And all of the bundling/unbundling anytime I want to access/edit any rod information can be BD consuming.  I thought a lookup table might work.  When I looked on the forums for a lookup table I was pointed in the direction of arrays/clusters.
    So I have two questions:
What would be the best structure for the steel rod data?
What would be the best data type for the calibration# that the user can edit (enum, ring, ?)?

I would make a couple of small change to your proposed data layout (highlighted in blue):
Rod Arr – array of clusters:
    Rod Info - cluster:
    Calibration number – string
    Array of Rod Scale cluster:
    mV/V – double
    force – double
    Young’s Modulus – double
    Rod type – enum
    Cross-sectional area – double
For the calibration data, I would have an array of clusters rather than a cluster of arrays.  IMHO, this makes it easier to index through the calibration points, and makes it less likely you will ever have a situation where you don't have the same number of mV/V and force points.  I'd also move the Young's modulus, type, and area info into the Rod Info cluster.
I prefer to store this type of configuration in the system registry, but that is more complicated and far from universal in the LabVIEW world.  A simpler way would be to simply pass the entire array to the "write to binary file" function.  If you do this, however, you might want to add a version number, otherwise it will be very difficult to maintain backwards compatibility if you ever need to change the data structure.
As far as the control type, it depends on what the user is entering.  If the user is mostly entering calibration numbers already in the system, I would use a (system) combo box.  This allows the user to select an existing calibration number from the menu, but also to enter a new calibration number if they need to.  If the user will almost always enter new calibration numbers, then I would use a standard string control.  Either way, you'll probably want to validate the format of the number the user enters.

  • Batch Split in OBD & billed for the entire Quantity .RG1  register does not update the excise values

    Hi All,
I am new here . We have batch split in Delivery and 601 happens for the individual batches and billing we bill for the entire quantity . Hence the RG1 does not update the excise values for the batches and it is showing as zero (upon extraction in J2I6). Upon research through the program the latest note which i presume is patched
The latest note is N158234 which does not show in the program but seems have been patched considering we are using the Latest version of SAP .
As you see above in the billing we have billed for the whole quantity but RG1 does not update for the since the batches are zero .
My programmer says because of some note related to cancellation where it says about values H & J in vbfa table and due to which program does not go through the Note for the batch split .
Now i have checked few other projects in my company and they all seems to be following the program . So i am wondering whether my process or some customization is missing .
Sales order (no batch determination)  , in delivery the batches are picked through wm to and batch split happens in the delivery . Then billling for the whole quantity . We have automatic excise invoice creation enabled so no J1IIN .
    Can somebody help me .
    Thank you

My programmer says because of some note related to cancellation where it says about values H & J in vbfa table and due to which program does not go through the Note for the batch split
Which field (H & J) they were referring in VBFA ?
i have checked few other projects in my company and they all seems to be following the program
How about the other projects' values in VBFA where your techinical team is guessing some issue.  Have you compared this?
Since you have already the note 158234 implemented in your system, ideally, you should not face any issue.

  • Why the creation of a infotype is not traced by infotype change log report?

    Hello Experts,
I triggered the trace of IT655 change for infotype auditing report RPUAUD00. But I found out if just create the infotype with a certain start date without changing any field, this creation cannot be picked up by the report. Is this normal or not? What else I can do to trace the creation also?
    Thanks,
    Allan

Allan - We are having a similar issue with Events (0000) infotype? Did you apply note 44206 in your system?
If you applied the note, did the developer implement the changes to the 2 Standard SAP programs (per note 44206)?
If you didn't apply the note, how did you resolve the issue of the trace within the infotype?
    Any response is appreciated.

I am using internal ITS for HTML GUI.
Some of the iviews of the business packages  are working but some of them are not.
I am getting an error message

    Note
The following error text was processed in the system SRM : Attribute for user PBHONDELE contains errors. Inform system admin.
The error occurred on the application server g4kwas642_SRM_50 and in the work process 0 .

I have published all the services that are under SICF.
I had also published all the services using w3_publish_services and siac_publish_all_int.
It says that all the services are succesfully published.
When I  go to SICf to test the service, some of them are not working.
Can you guys tell me what are the steps that I am missing?
    Thanks,

    Hello
Please take a look on question 9 of the following FAQ note, which explains the standard system behavior:
549752 - FAQ: MRP elements in transaction MD04/MD05
    9.  Question: Why does the system not display stock in transit for stock
transport orders with order confirmation (notified orders)?
        Answer:
Purchase order confirmations do not have to match the original
purchase order delivery schedule lines. Moreover, the purchase order
confirmation (view MDLA in materials planning) does not contain the
same information as the purchase order to determine the stock in
transit. The display of the stock in transit is therefore not
implemented for the purchase order confirmation in the materials
        planning evaluation transactions.

  • How to know side effects of implementing an SAP Note

    Hi All,
Im new in implementing SAP Note.
Kindly suggest how to analyize whether implementing an SAP Note will cause some side effect.
How to do that ,I think just by looking at code can we assure that there will be no side effects.
    Kindly suggest.

    hello,
the easiest way is to implement note and check the functionality manually for example execute transaction and post document or you could open the correction object (ABAP code) and analyse the correction which ll be imported and how those changes will effect your systems work. if you implemented the note and you noticed that corrections destroyed your previous functionality then you could rollback the note in your development system.
    best regards
