Is there a section in delivered docs that explains each EBS Oracle schema?

Hi folks,
The security group in the organization I work for is not used to COTS packages such as EBS, and is always asking why the database needs so many Oracle accounts. At the very least, I need to explain what each one is for, and it's going to be extremely time consuming.
So my question is, is there anywhere in the delivered EBS documentation that explains what each schema is for specifically? I've looked quite a bit, and can't find anything specific as far as a break down schema by schema. I'm not looking for a data model, simply an explanation for each one.
By the way, this is a 12.1.1 installation.
Thanks very much,
-Adam vonNieda

  • Is there a downloadable book by Microsoft that explains Power Query?

I am exploring options to better manage data for my company. I am looking for ways to effortlessly pull data into excel, possibly from SQL. I am good with VBA/excel, but I barely know anything about SQL or Power Query. Is there a book that explains--in terms

  • Need docs that explain Fibre Channel setup, getting I/O error on 2540 SAN

Sun T5220 Host running Solaris 10 5/09 as management host.
    Qlogic 5602 FC Switch
Sun Storagetek 2540 - one controller tray with 9 300G SAS Hitachi drives. Firmware 7.35.x.
Sun branded Qlogic QLE2462 HBAs - PCI express, dual port. 3 in the T5220. qlcxxxx drivers for the HBAs.
Sun Common Array Manager software version 6.5.
I am a long-time Oracle DBA who has the task of setting up a Fibre Channel SAN. I am not a Solaris sysadmin, but have installed and maintained large databases on Solaris boxes where I had access to a competent sysadmin. I am at a classified site and cannot bring out electronic files with logs, configuration info, etc. to upload. Connecting the T5220 is the 1st box of many. This is my first exposure to HBA's, Fibre Channel, and SAN, so everything I know about it I have read in a manual or from a post somewhere. I understand the big picture and I have the SAN configured with 2 storage pools each with 1 volume in them on RAID5 virtual disks. I can see the LUN 0 on the T5220 server when I do a luxadm probe and when I do a format. I formatted one of the volumes successfully. Now I attempt to issue:
    newfs /dev/rdsk/device_name_from_output_of_luxadm_probe
I get an immediate I/O error. I could be doing something totally naive or have a larger problem - this is where I get lost and the documentation becomes less detailed.
What would be great is if anyone knows of a detailed writeup that would match what I'm doing or a good off-the-shelf textbook that covers all of this or anything close. I continue to search for something to bridge my lack of knowledge in this area. I am unclear about the initiators and targets beyond the fundamental definitions. I have used the CAM 6.5 software to define the initiators that it discovered. I have mapped the Sun host into a host group also. I do not know what role the Qlogic 5602 Fibre Channel switch plays with respect to initiators and targets or if it has any role at all. Is it just a "pass through" and the ports on the 5602 do not have to be included? Maybe I don't have the SAN volume available in read/write. I find bits and pieces in blogs and forums, but nothing that puts it all together. I also find that many of the notes on the web are not accurate.
This all may appear simplistic to someone who works with it a lot and if you know of an obvious reference I should be using, a link or reply would be greatly appreciated as I continue to Google for information.

Thanks for the reply. I had previously read the CAM 6.5 manual and have all the SAN configuration and mappings. Yesterday I was back at the site and was able to place a UFS filesystem on the exposed SAN LUN which was 0. I've not seen any reference to LUN 0 being a placeholder for the 2540 setup and when I assigned it, I allowed the CAM 6.5 software to choose "Next Available" LUN and it chose 0. LUN 31 on the 2540 is the "Access" LUN that is assigned automatically - perhaps it is taking the place of what you describe as the LUN 0 placeholder.
I was able to put a new UFS filesystem on LUN 0 (newfs), mount it, and copy data to it. The disk naming convention that Solaris shows for the SAN disks is pretty wild and I usually have to reference a Solaris book on the standard scsi disk name formats. My question/confusion at the moment is that I have 3 Sun branded Qlogic HBA's in the Sun T5220 server - QLE2462 (dual port) with one port on two of the HBAs cabled to the Qlogic 5602 FC switch which is cabled to the A and B controller of the SAN 2540 - there are only 2 cables coming out of the 5220; the 3rd HBA (for future use) has no cables to it. Both ports show up as active and connected on the server down to the SAN and the CAM 6.5 software automatically identified both initiators (ports) on the Sun 5220 when I mapped them. I had previously mapped them to the Sun host, mapped the host to a host_group, virtual disks to volumes, volumes to....etc.; and was able to put data on the exposed volume named dev_vol1 which is a RAID5 virtual disk on the SAN.
When I use the format command on Solaris, it shows two disks and I assumed this represented the two ports from the same host 5220. I was able to put a label on one of these disks (dev_vol1), format it, and put data on it as noted above. When I select the other disk in the format menu, it is not formatted, won't allow me to put a label on it (I/O error) and I can go no further from there. The CAM 6.5 docs stop after they get you through the mapping and getting a LUN exposed. I continue on the in a Solaris-centric mindset and try to do the normal label, format, newfs, mount routine and it works for the one "disk" that format finds but not for the other. The information from the format info on both the disks shows them as 1.09 TB and that is the only volume mapped right now from the SAN so I know it is the same SAN volume. It does not make sense that I would label it and format it again anyway, but is this what I am supposed to see - two disks (because of 2 ports?) and the ability to access it through one. I found out by trial an error that I could label, format, and access the one. I did not do it from knowledge or looking at the information presented....I just guessed through it.
I have not "bound" the 2 or HBAs in any way and that is on my list as next because I want to do multipathing and failover - just starting to read that so I may be using the wrong language. But I am wondering before I go on to that, if I am leaving something undone in the configuration that is going to hamper my success in the multipathing - since I cannot do anything with the 2nd "disk" that has been exposed to Solaris from the SAN. I thought, after I labeled, formatted and put a filesystem on the one "disk" I can write to that the other "disk" that shows up would just be another path to the same data via a 2nd initiator. Just writing that does not sound right, but I am trying to convey my thoughts as to what I logically expected to see. Maybe the question should be why am I seeing that 2nd "disk" in a Solaris format listing at all? I have not rebooted any time during this process also and can easily do that and will today.

  • I have a macbook running 10.6.8 is there a way to transfer docs from that computer to iCloud

I have a macbook running 10.6.8 is there a way to transfer docs from that computer to iCloud with out using a third party app like dropbox?

Yes - if you have the iWorks apps or apps that support iCloud and if you have iCloud setup on the iPad correctly. You do by using Safari on the Mac.
If you have Pages on both devices - you can log into iCloud.com on the Mac. Sign in, and click on the iWorks icon in the browser window in Safari. Then click on Pages at the top in the next window. Then drag your Pages document from the Mac desktop onto the browser window and the document will be available in Pages on the iPad when you launch it.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Is there a section in the Mac App Store, that is for apps that sync across their respective iOS apps?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
I have been using the Mac App Store from day one and have never seen this area of which you speak. There are a number of apps where the developer has created both a Mac version and an iOS version, but I haven't a clue how you would do a search of the Mac App Store to find them.

You don't tell us what version of Office for Mac you presently have, but I'm guessing it might be Office for Mac 2004. If so, in addition to the suggestion to download OpenOffice you can purchase the most recent version of Office for Mac 2011 directly from MS <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/buy>. You can also purchase Pages productivity suite from the Mac App Store <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pages/id409201541?mt=12>.

  • Twice Pages has lost important docs that were saved. The other day I had a very important document that I worked on for three days, saved at least six times and yesterday it disappeared. There is no trace even via a date recovery software programme. Help!

I have twice lost really imptnt docs on Pages. Yesterday's doc had been saved at least six times over the three days of working on it, then yesterday it disappeared. I used disk drill to recover and it found lots of pages docs but not a trace of my multiply-saved document. How could that happen - and twice! The first time it was my novel and disk drill found it. This time it is a philosophy book, a new opening of around six pages, and there is just no trace. Time is short to avoid overwriting - does anyone have any ace ideas? Kind Regards

What details would be most helpful? (see below)
    Version 4.3
Save as was not offered only save - I assume as Pages, as I wasn't exporting eg as Word
    Saving to documents.
    Drive checked by Disk Drill
Novel: not the problem at the moment as that was recovered last time. I don't really understand the question otherwise - Pages is a wp prog, why not write a novel in it. I didn't do it for DTP, just as a doc.
Disk Drill hasn't found the doc that is still under pages-docs - which has the same title as the lost doc - but is only less than a page whereas the lost doc is about 6 pages. Pages still saved the longer doc numerous times despite having the same title as the shorter one. The last time I left the macbook on sleep and awoke it while trying a dongle in a shop. The doc came up on the screen and so I tried to minimise it - that menu came down (which always annoys me) that asks if I want save this new doc on i-cloud. As it is never a new doc and I don't want to save what doesn't exist on i-cloud I pressed delete - which usually leaves the existing document as saved. But this time when I got home and tried to open it - it had disappeared. The short doc is still there, but neither that nor the longer missing version has been found by Disk Drill - unlike last time with the novel when it did find the missing doc.
I hope that is the detail that is helpful

  • Is there a solution in Apple framework that offers NAS RAID DLNA?

    Hello forum,
I think the requirement of NAS with RAID and additionally DLNA is slowly belcoming quite common these days.
Apple seems to have taken a step in the right direction with Time Capsule but without RAID it only reaches halfway though.
In addition, there is no support for DLNA certified TV either - (Time Capsule needs DLNA certification)
I have spent only limited time within Apple software and OS so whereas my understanding is limited but I appreciate that most of the times Apple products work reliably and deliver.
This is the main motivation behind this question - I am exploring the opportunity to stay within Apple framework for NAS etc. against Synology and the likes.
Please share your thoughts on whether below possible solution to RAID issue will work or not:
    a) Buy a 2TB Time Capsule.
    b) Buy Western Digital 4TB Red and External HDD enclosure from eBay or something.
    c) Connect it to 2TB Time Capsule via the USB port available.
    d) Configure Time Machine to take a Backup on Time Capsule.
    e) Question 1 - Can Time Machine have 2 separate schedules - i.e; create backups at 2 separate locations?
This way it could maintain 2 bkps - 1 on Time Machine and the other on 4TB Red.
    f) Question 2 - No idea about how to get the streaming / DLNA side of things to work - Can Apple TV read photos out of iPhoto database/ movies etc.. sitting on Time Capsule / 4TB Red?
    thanks
    Gaurav

    Thank you Eric.
Re question 2 - There are DLNA server softwares available that can be installed on my MBPR - these would be compatible with iTunes / iPhoto (atleast they seem to claim so).
Overall this fits the equation for me.

  • Is there an app on the iPad that resembles Microsoft Office?  I need it for school.  If there is please let me know.  Thanks  :-)

Is there an app on the iPad that resembles Microsoft Office?  I need it for school.

The basic apple equivalent to ms office is called i works, which has three components.  Pages is word, numbers is xl, and keynote is powerpoint.  There are many subtle differences, but the are more or less functionaly equivalent.
There are also a number of third part apps available to replicate office functions, such as good reader, docs to go, and my favorite, quick office.     Read the reviews in the app store and pick the one that will do what you need.
You will also get some other suggestions here.

  • How can I email a doc thats saved in the cloud from my phone?

I dont't have access to my macbook (running mountain lion/latest iwork) and need to email a pages doc that's saved in iCloud.  I have my iPhone (running ios5) so wondered how can I attach said document to an email and send it from the phone?
Do I need iwork on my phone as well?  I hope not becasue I've already bought iwork for the laptop and feel it's a bit rough to have to pay for a mobile version as well.
I've looked for an attach button on creating a new email on my phone hoping there'd be a link to iCloud documents but cannot see one.
    Any help would be appreciated

I don't know of a way to do that without Pages on your iPhone, but it is trivial to do from within Pages. Due to the iCloud sandboxing model, such things are done by pushing data out from the source app, not pulling from the destination app (Mail in this case).
You might also find it handy to be able to make minor changes to your Pages documents on the iPhone. It's better on an iPad, of course, with more screen, but it's not too difficult on an iPhone.

My document seems to be in three distinct sections. I think that because the thumbnails have three distinct yellow frames around them. Can I merge these into one document?

    Gill,
The three sections are one document. There are usually good reasons for Section Breaks, so you'll want to be sure that you really need to delete them. To get rid of the Section Breaks, just place your cursor at the top of the page following the break and press Delete until the Section Break goes away. It should take only one click for each case.

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Can you suggest example websites or public docs that use DITA and xrefs?

Specifically, ones that have cross-references to other topics and external sources.
We are embarking on the DITA-conversion adventure would like to avoid the pitfalls of the (what I hear can be a painful) transition for things like using cross-references.  Our current docs are littered with "For more info, see Blah on page 15-3" and "For more info, see www.blah.com"
Note: I don't need to see the .fm source docs yet, we are just evaluating the look and how links work at the display level.
    Thx!

There is also a model for linking that is used in DITA that differs from the "random" approach that a lot of content takes. To quote you:
"Our current docs are littered with [xrefs]"
In DITA you can, technically, put links all over the place, but there is a better overall approach to consider. One is to use <related-links> which only appear at the end of a topic. This is neat, but it is still internal to the file. The other approach is to use a reltable. This is inserted in a map and used at the time of publishing to put in links.
Imagine this in a world where FM is used: You create a book, but it's made up of many nested files. If a file is at the "highest" level then it's a chapter, but if you put a file link in one more level down, it's a Heading1, and another level down is a Heading2.
Now you end up with stuff like this:
    The Entire World
          Europe
               Germany
               Italy
               England
         Asia
               Japan
               China
When you publish The Entire World you get two chapters, and then have many countries in them. However, no links (yet). Instead, you just have a bunch of content combined together and published. But now you add a set of rules that say "it would be great if Japan and England link to each other". When added and you publish you get two links. One from Japan to England, the other from England to Japan. They appear after you write about the two nations, and they are inserted in the published output, but NOT inside the file. So now you can use Japan or England in a totally different context, but not have to remove the links.
If you have ever used conditions to hide xrefs because some docs are reused, but the links make no sense in another context, then DITA and Frame become a very neat combination for you. There's more to it than that, but consider how/why your links exist before you decide to convert in bulk. In some cases it is very worthwhile to do a good review of content before structuring. Actually, that should likely read "in most cases" as links are often added, but seldom removed.
    Hope that helps,
    Bernard

  • Is there an AppleScript or Automator Script that will wake a Mac from Sleep?

Is there an AppleScript or Automator Script that will wake a Mac from Sleep?

    Frank and All,
The following answer to your question above is complicated, but I hope it explains why my question was formed with so much frustration in it.
I have an OpenOffice(OO) Macro that was launched with Calendar at 6pm each business night. It ran properly in all Apples operating systems until I Hit Maverick(OSX10.9). From then on, the AppleScript would run from one to 3 days, then would disappear from the Calendar entry. The Calendar alert would still run, but the "OpenFile" section of the alert would disappear. I also was running elgato EyeTV HD during the day, so I would use energy saver to put my MacBook Pro to sleep at 12 Midnight and wake it again at 9am. I picked up a used Mac Mini to do the EyeTV stuff, provide AppleTV the files in H264 format through iTunes' media share, and found it had plenty of power to do the 6pm automated stuff simultaneously as well. Because I still wanted to run the OpenOffice Macro on my MacBook Pro at 6pm, and wanted to use it for a host of other things when I was on the road, I wanted it to sleep most of the time and only wake up automatically to run the 6pm OO Macro. When I called Apple about the issue I was having with Maverick and Calendar loosing the OpenFile command as part of the Alert Message, they told me the no longer supported answering AppleScript Questions but they now would support Automator questions. I pointed out that the OpenFile would also fail after one to three days if I used a Calendar Alert to launch an Automator App. At first, I did not like Automator, but now I see why Apple is pushing us to use it. Automator adds a TIME STAMP ID to the Apps developed in Automator so the first time you launch the App after a change to it, you must reply to a dialog message saying that this is the first time you are running this version of the App. If a Scammer has replaced your app with one that can reek havoc on your computer, the replacement app will not run unless you are there to agree that you know where the modified app came from and click the OK button to continue (BRILLIANT, Enhanced Security idea on Apples part). I also noticed that after Mountain Lion, the Applescript delay timing was all screwed up as well. Well I tried to use LaunchD Task Scheduler to circumvent the Calendar Problem and that worked until I upgraded to Yosemite Last week. Then LaunchD no longer worked and I am only into a few days of using The Calendar Launched Automator App to see if it will continue to run.
But I think I solved the dilemma I was having with opening an Automator App in a Sleeping Mac. I Googled up the following question, "AppleScript to wake up computer".  I went thru several complex responses until I found this on that is INCREDIBLE EASEY! What came back was a brettterpstra.com  response from Feb 20th,2014. What it said, in a Quick Tip: caffeinated your Terminal Article,  if you wanted to wake a Mac from sleep, use the Terminal command named "Caffeine -u -t 1". I placed it in an Automator Most Used Action called "Run Shell Script -- Caffeine -u -t 1" and it worked!  Now, I can put my Mac to Sleep but at 6pm, the Automator App will launch, run the "Caffeine -u- -t 1" command and proceed to work as if I had awakened the Mac From Sleep mode by pressing a keyboard key and had run the Automator Script with a double click.
Sorry for the long, drawn-out reply, but maybe this will help others.
