Is there a way to do an automatic LZW Compression of all existing images?

Hi,
I have spent quite some time trying various ways to compress entire folders of Canon images,  imported with the Canon Utility. Although they are TIFF,  seems some software utilities don't even offer "LZW compression". That would save half the disk space when the original TIFF files are all over 45 MB (Canon 50D). Certainly the Canon utility does not - probably because they didn't want to pay the TIF license fee.
It would be nice if there was a CS5 script command to automatically replace a folder, or more, with LZW compressed images. In fact, there does not even seem to be a way to change the PS CS5 "General Presets" to always use LZW compression of files, if that is desired - it always reverts to NONE in the SAVE AS command. Haven't found any info in Help,  on where to change this.
I did find some success using the "File->Scripts->Image Processing" function. However, for some strange reason, even though I specified that the LZW file be "SAVE in SAME Location", as the selected folder name - it still creates duplicate TIFF (LZW) images, properly compressed, in a sub folder named "TIF". Not only is this incorrect, but how did it choose that default name? Haven't found an explanation in Help.  That isn't all bad, just inconvenient, since this then requires extra work to copy folders back to the original image folder, delete the new TIFF subfolder, along with the usual warnings.
I realize that all this inconvenience is a safeguard against accidental over writes, but I would like to have the option. Auto Compresion Conversion of files and folders should be a standard capability, as well as a standard Preset option.
Does anybody know of a safe and convenient program to Batch Process folders to automatically compress image files - in place, without opening each image?
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for this lead - absolutely a gold find!
I tried both of them, and I found the second script - " Picture
Processor III" - better suited to solving my problem.
While they both can do the same thing - "LZW compressing" an
uncompressed set of image files" - Dr. Brown's version actually creates a
"duplicate" ... copy(1) file - in addition to the existing uncompressed file
, in the same directory (if selected). ,  just as PS CS5 does with an
unwanted & unexpected dummy folder. This may be a safer workflow, but just
adds more work in later going through all the subdirectories (if specified),
just to find, select, and erase all the originals after the process.
PP-3, on the other hand, uses a temp file for compression, and then
replaces the original. The only quibbles is that PP3 doesn't keep the
"original creation date", which would have been useful in maintaining
records and to distinguish between images in the directory list.
Furthermore, unlike Dr. Brown's, it doesn't provide a "prefix/suffix" file
renaming option box, (when not replacing the original file) - but that
wasn't my original concern.
Glad you provided links to both - I'll use PP3 most often, but if I need
to rename files, DB is a very good alternative, for that situation. I
particularly like the "ALL File Types" option, since that allows the easy
conversion of all camera types (e.g. Canon & Nikon) RAW files to LZW TIF,
in just one pass. That saves a lot of work.
Kudos to the script creator!

Apple Mail keeps putting good messages into the Junk folder. I mark them as 'not junk', but then they just sit there. It is really tedious to have to move them back to the inbox, and change the colour back to black. Is there any way to do this automatically?
I originally placed this question on the Snow Leopard group, but since then I have updated to Lion. I was hoping that Lion would have provided a solution, but it seems not. In the Snow Leopard group, somebody posted a script which apparently works in Snow Leopard, but I have no idea if it works in Lion, as there doesn't seem to be any way to load scripts.
    This is the script, anyway.
It was given to me by <Bernard Hills> but I don't know who wrote it.

OK, I've discovered how to access the library.
    It's here: http://techheavy.com/2011/07/access-the-user-library-folder-in-lion/
But I don't really want to try that script in case it screws something up. I know zero about scripting.

  • Is there any way I can switch Automatic Backup off?

Is there any way I can turn automatic backups off in Logic Pro 8? Apple has set it so you can't switch them off any more. (You could switch them off in Logic versions 6 and 7.)
I see other people have had this problem and it has been discussed on these forums but nobody seems to have offered a crystal clear solution.
I know somebody suggested you change the number below:
    <key>MaxBackupsToKeep</key>
    <integer>10</integer>"
    And someone else wrote:
    From the command prompt type:
    defaults write com.apple.logic.pro MaxBackupsToKeep 0
But I can't see exactly how or where to do this. I opened com.apple.logic.pro.plist and found "MaxBackupsToKeep" used in a different context to what is described above. I changed a '1' after this text to '0' but that had no effect whatsoever.
Can somebody please help? How exactly do you switch this annoying backup feature off?

    defaults write com.apple.logic.pro MaxBackupsToKeep 0
But I can't see exactly how or where to do this.
Open the Terminal application. Type the command above and press return.
Note that setting it to 0 *does not* turn it off, it gives you one autobackup next to the song file, rather than creating an auto backup folder and putting the backups in there.

  • Is there a way to make it automatically set the ouputs of new tracks to Bus 5? (or something other than Stereo Out?)

When I add a new track, it is automatically set to Stereo Out, is there a way to make it automatically set to Bus 5?  I use a mix that sends everything through busses and every time I add a track it seems I have to adjust this.
    Thanks

...and/or setup one or more tracks the way you want.. and then create/save a template and load that when you want to start a new project...
You can even have Logic (via it's Startup preferences) autoload that template every time you start a new project... by choosing your template as the default one.

  • Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in Webgallery?

Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in webgallery found in Photoshop (CS3 or Photoshop elements-- I have both)?  The thumbnails come out so blurry that it's embarrassing (for an art site). Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Your websites look great!  You are to be complimented on your fine design work.
I've been doing custom sized thumbnails, at around 300px, but they are still a little blurry, like when JPEGs are over optimized and some isolated areas look like they are churning, one shape melting into another like boiling water.  Then, I tried even larger thumbnails, and then shrunk them to a smaller size using HTML commands, hoping  that shrinking them smaller would help tighten up the blurry churning areas. They looked a little better, but the churning areas remained.  When I open up the individual thumbnails in Photoshop and I try using the unsharp mask or the sharpen function, it gets even worse.

    and

Both work very well. The former I use for manual, one-way synchroniziation of (nearly) entire systems. The latter for automatic syncing of very active directories through local and shared online storage.

  • Is there a way to make Mailbox automatically update as soon as you get new mail?

I just got an iPhone 4, and I noticed that my mailbox only updates when I open it, even if I received new mail since I last checked. Is there a way to make it automatically update when I get new mail in my inbox? There's sort of no point to alerting me when I get new mail if I'm already in the inbox.
I dunno if it matters, but my mail box is synced to a gmail account.
I also don't really know what my operating system is, but I guess it's iOS 6 since it's a new phone? I don't know how to check.

It depends on how you have mail checking your mail. You mention that you have a Gmail account. Did you set this up as an Exchange account to use Push? If you have mail set to only check manually, then that is what will happen, it will only update manually. If you have it set to one of the other time settings, it will update like that, as that will be the only time it will connect to the mail server, even with the application open.

    Hey Rich,
It is true that you cannot add more than 250 plots to a 2d-axis graph in the REPORT.  One work around is to have the graphs stacked on top of each other and plot 250 to one graph and 250 more to another graph.  I am including a TDR (you have to unzip it) file that has 12 2d-axis stacked on top of each other.  Most of the properties have been made invisible through the graph properties.  You can still see the legends however.  One caveat to this is that you will have issues accessing the different graphs.  You have to do it from a VBScript.  The following line of code worked for me:
    Call GraphObjOpen("2DAxis" + Str(NewAxis))
Where NewAxis is a variable that defines which graph I want to look at.  You would of course have to loop through the graphs as you add data.

  • Is there a way to create a new Calendar that replicates all events

Is there a way to create a new Calendar that replicates all events from a subscribed calendar ? Mobile Me is great but my most important Calendar is technically in the "Subscriptions" category so it doesn't get pushed to me iPhone. I want to create a new Calendar and have it just automatically copy all the events from the subscribed calendar and keep up to date with that one.

    lincolnroadjeff,
I subscribed to a Holiday calendar that I also wanted to be published, and the only workaround that I found was to export the calendar, delete the subscription, and then import the calendar.
This obviously will only work with a subscription that is not often updated/subject to change.

  • Is there a way to allow setting of "Due Date for All Tasks" to current date in OOB Workflow

Is there a way to allow setting of "Due Date for All Tasks" to current date in OOB Workflow
I need to set it today because there are tasks that is needed to be completed on the same day.
Is there a way without modifying the page/form. like a configuration or something?
    ----------------------- Sharepoint Newbie

    Hi ,
As Ajeet said,  for implement your requirement, you can change the data validation on the Due data field.
You can do as the following :
Open the site with SharePoint Designer 2010
Click on Workflows on the left launch, then find ‘Approval-SharePoint 2010’, click on it
On the Forms section, click ‘ReviewApproval_***.xsn’
Then you can find Due Data for All Tasks, and change the validation
In addition, if you create an approval workflow with SharePoint Designer, you can use a specific date, it contains hour and minute.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Is there a way to keep both menu bars opaque at all times?

Mavericks shows the menu bar in both monitors when you have two. That's great, but the menu bar in the passive desktop turns translucent, which is a bit annoying. Is there a way to keep both menu bars opaque at all times? Setting the menu bar opaque in the desktop settings affects only the active monitor.

    Hey Everyone,
    DISCOVERED THE ANSWER!!!!!
I recently got one of these fun little squares and I just figured out (what seems to be) a simple way to keep the clock face on. (Though, I certainly agree with the comments about the ultimate impracticality of doing so for a long time, as the the battery in this thing only has so much to give.)  I'm running the latest update on it.
This seemed too easy to believe when I did it! No need to keep it empty of music! No need to keep it in Fitness running! I think this works because the clock face, stop watch, and timer are all in the same segment of it's little nano operating system.
If you turn on the stopwatch then switch back to the clock face, it will stay fully illuminated as long as the stopwatch is running. I think the limit on the stopwatch is 24 hours, but my guess is your battery is going to be dead long before that. I'd recommend setting the brightness super low if you're going to do this.
Anyway, problem solved if you want to keep it lit for however long you like. (of course you have to sacrifice the stopwatch)
    Enjoy!!

  • I don't want to do the recovery thing to my iPhone4, but my iPhone is at the stage in the update where it says to plug it into iTunes, is there some way to get out of this or save all of my data somehow?

i don't want to do the recovery thing to my iPhone4, but my iPhone is at the stage in the update where it says to plug it into iTunes, is there some way to get out of this or save all of my data somehow?

What do you mean the "update" says plug it into iTunes? If you have the iTunes logo/USB cord on the screen, it's in recovery mode or needs to be activated. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. You have no choice but to plug it into the computer. Hopefully, you backed it up before you started the update.
If that's not what you mean, then please explain.
Apple may or may not be able to fix the lock button for you without replacing the phone entirely. You'll have to take it in and ask.
