Is there a way to turn off "automatically declare stage instances" on a per-symbol basis?

This would be an incredibly useful feature, and would eliminate 99% of those "1152: A conflict exists with inherited definition... in namespace public".
Generally, this option is off for my main flash document, but in individual "lesson" swfs that I load into it, most of the content in those are not class-backed, so I leave "automatically declare stage instances" on at the document level (currently the only level to specify this option) for those lesson swfs.
However, in one of those "lesson" swfs, there are two library symbols that I would like to have the same base class.  They have the same child instances with the same names, just with different sizes (e.g. one is a main idea with two fields, the other is the same thing, but the fields are bigger).  When I set both of these to use the "MainIdea" class as thier "base class" (defined in an external SWC, but not relevant here), I get the confict error, because Flash tries to generate it's own class for each object (inheriting from the base class I specified), but that base class already has those identifiers defined.
So, ideally, I would like to be able to stop flash from trying to atomatically declare stage instances on those particular symbols that specify a base class.  In fact, it makes sense to me that for any symbol that's given an explicit base class, Flash Authoring should either never try to automatically declare stage instances (since the presense of a base class would imply the presense of pre-defined instance variables) or should give the developer the option at the symbol-level, so that this conflict would not occur.  Even when it does occur, it should be a warning rather than an error, since Flash Authoring could simply not re-define the variable if it already exists in the base class.
A potential work around, which doesn't even work and which defeats the purpose of using a single shared base class for multiple symbols, is to actually define a unique class file for each symbol (which both inherit from the base class), so that Flash doesn't try to automatically declare stage instances for it, but Flash still tries to automatically generate stage instances.
Final recommendation: I really think Flash would be much better off if the "automatically declare stage instances" option would resolve the conflicts itself by simply not declaring already-declared properties for symbols that use a defined class or base class.  Instead, it should just show a warning saying "I tried to automatically define a property for this stage instance, but it's base class already defined it, and that's ok!"

Have a look at this YouTube movie, explaining how to replace the simple action by a oneliner standard action to prevent the playhead of being released:

  • Is there any way to turn off the ical feature whereby someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically goes on your iCal?

Is there any way to turn off the iCal feature whereby when someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically appears on your calendar?  Once there they can't even be edited or deleted.

    Greetings,
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
You should be able to delete events in iCal as long as they are not from a "Subscription" calendar.  Subscriptions show up on the left hand side of iCal under the "Subscription" category if you have any.
You can tell iCal to not check your mail program for invites by going and unchecking the box found in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > "Automatically retrieve..."
    Hope that helps!

  • When sharing screen from work with my home computer, is there any way to turn off the display at home?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, but when I'm viewing my desktop on the home computer from work (as in I've connected by finding my computer in the finder and hit the "Share Screen" button - is there any way to turn off the display at home? It seems a bit of a waste of power to have the screen on when I'm not actually there - I just need to be able to see all my programs etc on the remote screen in order to use them. My home computer is a 2011 iMac running latest Mountain Lion, work is a 2010 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

I've set up another user on my home Mac and left that one logged in. Now when I connect from work it asks me if I want to share the screen or log on virtually as my user. I think choosing the second option doesn't power up the screen.

  • Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I just want to type a letter and add pictures and titles, and Pages keeps changing font sizes and doesn't let me "Do it my way".  I HATE this!

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages?  I'm using a blank document, so I figured I could write my letter and add pictures any way I wanted to.  But NO!  Pages keeps changing the font size!  I typed a large heading as a title, and when I try to change to a smaller font for the body of the letter, it changes the size back to the larger size!  I am getting SO FRUSTRATED!  I've spent over an hour trying to get the stupid program to let me just type my letter!  Can anyone help?

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!
You're welcome Rich. Glad to help.
Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

  • CS6 Multicam Edit - Is there a way to turn off some camera angles when the system gets strained?

I'm doing a multicam edit in cs6 and the 5 camera angles I have are straining my system.  I have two main angles and three kind of back up go pro angles that I don't need most of the time.  But I don't want to get rid of them either.  Is there a way to turn off monitoring some of the angles at times so that video will playback smoother?  Then when I need the other angles, switch them back on when I want?  The video is so choppy with all 5 angles monitoring at once that multicam editing is basically impossible.  I'm editing on what's supposed to be a very fast system at work but it's not fast enough...Thanks!

I'm not aware of any way to do this. You might want to invest in a battery case if this is a problem for you; our users here all have them.
Please submit your feature request to Apple at this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback; I agree it's a good idea.

  • In iOS 7 is there a way to turn off that new camera burst mode?

I like the old camera ability to keep your finger on the shutter and release to take a photo. It helps avoid camera blur with certain close shots you are trying to frame, and was one of my favorite "hints on using your camera" for the iPhone.
But with iOS 7 this has turned into burst mode, which is driving me crazy.
Is there a way of turning off burst mode for the shutter button and having it work like it did before?
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks, Doug.  I'm a little disappointed to discover so few of us who miss what I consider one of the iPhone camera's cleverest refinements.  Being able to hold one's finger on the shutter and release to take the photo is something I did by habit, and now sorely miss.
Most troubling to me is that the change represents a shift to favoring an entirely new way of taking photographs — a style I'd conservatively call, "by the seat of your pants".  That's never the way I've taken photographs.
Like Nadnerb19, I'm hoping Apple reconsiders its priorities, and gives us the option to make a choice between machine gun style photography and the steadier, more 'focused' approach afforded by previous versions of iOS.

  • Is there any way to turn off keypad sounds when making a phone call?

I am a new user to iphone....is there any way to turn off sounds of keypad when making a manual phone call of someone not in address book?
    Thanks

If I understand the question correctly, it is not about turning off keyboard clicks, it's about silencing the beeps made when manually keying in a  phone number. With keyboard clicks turned off, the beeps still sound when keying in a phone number. If I'm reading the iPhone User Guide correctly, it explains how to turn off keyboard clicks but not how to silence the   beeps when keying in a phone number. The only way I have found to silence the beeps is to put the phone into silent mode.

  • Is there a way to turn off photo sharing between three iphones?

We just purchased three iphones. Is there a way to turn off the photo sharing? We only want the pictures to be on the phone that took them, not shared between all three.

If you mean they are signed into the same iCloud account and are sharing the same photo stream, go to Settings>iCloud>Photos and turn Photo Stream off.
