Is there an Oracle EF equivalent to SqlFunctions.StringConvert?

Consider a query where I need to treat a NUMBER column as a string, either for query purposes or simply because I want a string returned. In a normal Oracle query I could use TO_CHAR and things are fine. Entity Framework doesn't let you do that directly.
To get around the problem, Microsoft created a [url http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd466166.aspx] SQLFunctions class that does let you perform certain conversions inside Linq to Entities queries. It doesn't seem to work with the Oracle EF provider (which isn't surprising given that it was built for SQL Server), so I'm wondering if there's an Oracle equivalent?
Thanks.

No equivalent in ODP.NET yet.
As a workaround, you may want to create a user defined stored function to be included in the model, and create a stub function to map to it.
For example,
class myFuncClass
[EdmFunction("Model.Store", "UDF_TO_CHAR")]
public static string ToCharFunc(decimal value, string format_mask, ...)
throw new NotSupportedException("Direct calls are not supported");
Where UDF_TO_CHAR is a user defined stored function that uses TO_CHAR to convert the input value with format_mask, nls_lang.
Then use myFuncClass.ToCharFunc(value, format, nls_lang) in LINQ query.

  • Oracle DB equivalent of SQL Server's Simple Transaction Logging mode?

    G'Day Experts !
    Was wondering if Oracle DB has the functional equivalent of the 'simple' transaction logging available in SQL Server?
    Would this be availabe at the schema level, or would it have to be the entire instance?
    I'm asking because the WebCenter Interaction portal and related services has no practical use for point-in-time rollbacks. The portal uses discreet event boundaries which unfortunately do not map into the relational world.
    Thanks!

    Rob in VermontHi Rob
    I assume you are referring to the simple recovery model, i.e lose everything since last backup. Oracle's equivalent of that is to run a database in NOARCHIVELOG mode. It applies to the database rather than the instance, though you probably intended database when you said instance.

  • Is there a Oracle 9.2 version for X64 bit platform

    Hello!!
    I have X64 bit machine with Windows 2003 server enterprise x64 edition installed.
    Is there a Oracle 9.2 version which I can install on this machine?
    In the site I found the Oracle 9.2 version for IA64.
    Could anyone give me any pointers as to where I can find Oracle 9.2 for x64 platform.
    thanks and regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi,
    currently you only can install 9.2 32bit (Patch Set 9.2.0.3.0 or higher is required) on this platform. Pure 64bit software is only available for Itanium and EMD64/AMD64 architectures. I don't know if there are any plans to change that.

  • Is there any Oracle database that can run on Windows ME?

    For the millions of us who have computers running Windows ME, particularly laptops, and don't want to switch to memory hog XP, is there any Oracle database software that will run? Any workarounds out there? Currently, you get problems with the products.jar file and staging area when you try to install.

    All,
    Normally I just help with pl/sql Q&A forum but being a Friday I thought I might check this forum to see what issues are happening here. I'm seeing this question ALLOT of what is the solution to get Oracle (oracle 7.x thru to 9.x) to both install and run on Windows ME (and even win950b). I have not tried this yet myself but I would have assumed that it would install no problem. From what I've been seeing it's the installer (now all java, NO idea why) that's bombing. So for you folks reading this and if you can help, what are the exact instructions to get Oracle to install on Windows ME/95? Thus far I've seen this some someone one ...
    Common Error : Jrew has caused and error in JAVAI.DLL Jrew will now close.
    Solution : Change/add in WIN.INI ... [compatiblity95] jrew=0x00080000
    Some has said they tried this and it didn't work either. I would like to see a solution to this as I have no intention of doing win nt, 2k, or XP either. Even if someone can post the solution to above error, what are all the errors and all the work arounds to get Oracle (yes from 7.x thru 9.x) to install on Win ME/95? Please post some responses as I know allot of people out there have been asking for this.
    Have a great weekend folks and thanks for helping on this one if you can !

  • Is there a Oracle site for user to practice Portal?

    Hello,
    Is there a Oracle site for user to practice Portal?
    Thank you for your attention,
    Emily123

    Not exactly, but you can do some of this at http://portalstudio.oracle.com like (testing your portlets). It might be a helpful resource for you too.
    Portal is a rather easy setup too if you have a system with at least 1.5 GB of RAM where you can install the infrastructure & middle-tiers on a single system. But I'd still look at this site to see if it has resources that help you with your Portal development.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there any LIKE query equivalent in XML?

    Is there any LIKE query equivalent in XML?
    I would like the display words starts with 'A' in flex list, vice versa. I send A as a input.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    I don't know that one - but with slight modification I can filter nodes values also - not onlyl attributes:
    var people:XML = <people>
       <person>
                        <firstName>Peter</firstName>
              </person>
       <person>
                        <firstName>Auguste</firstName>
              </person>
       <person>
                        <firstName>Gregory</firstName>
              </person>
       <person>
                        <firstName>Andy</firstName>
              </person>
    </people>
    (so we have nodes that have values - not attributtes)
    and then e.g.:
    var peopleList:XMLList = people.person.(firstName.charAt(0) == "A");
    trace(peopleList);
    (this is dynamic statement - you could replace "A" with variable reference, etc)
    Edit;
    I've googled interesting article you could read on that subject here:
