Is there something similar to WinKey+R (Run) in OS X

I have been using Windows for years and I am totally addicted to the WinKey+R key combination which brings up the "Run" dialog. Some common tasks would be:
#launch a command prompt
WinKey+R cmd
#launch MS Word
WinKey+R winword
#launch a console RDP session with a custom resolution
WinKey+R mstsc /v:some_host /w:1100 /h:777 /console
#launch IE and open http://some_url/
WinKey+R iexplorer http://some_url/
I've noticed command+spacebar get me spotlight and I can type something like textedit and that works but I can't type "textedit ~/mydoc.rtf" which is what I really want.
Can I get the functionality I'm looking for?

Quite close to this functionality (plus a whole lot more...) check out LaunchBar. Hit the shortcut (cntrl-space) for instance and type wor and be offered a list of matching items. Use 'wor' for Word three times and it will remember it. Check it out, I can hardly use a Mac without it.

Is there something similar to a MenuDimmerCallback?

Planning to use menu functions in LV and not having used them till now, I need some conceptual help.
In CVI you can define a MenuDimmeCallback function: a function executed only when the user clicks on the menu bar. In that function you can test program condition and dim some menu items not available or executable in the situation you are. This is particularly useful in that you don't need to update the menu structure every time your program conditions change, but you have to evaluate the actual situation when and only the user shows menus.
Is there something similar in LV?

I haven't worked with CVI but given your explanation, I would say that LabVIEW handles menus a little differently. Under the application control>>menu palette there is a function called "Get Menu Selection". This can be placed in a loop to monitor if a menu item has been selected. Timeout will be false when it has and then you process the selection.
However, this would be too late to use as a trigger to change menu dim because the selection has already been made. What you are asking is when the menu has been selected and no item clicked. In LabVIEW, you can modify the look of the menu any time you wish using the other functions in the menu palette. You don?t have to wait for the menu to be selected.

[SOLVED] Is there something similar to FinePrint for Linux?

Hi,
when I was still using Windows, I used a freeware similar to FinePrint (don't remember the name) and it was very useful. So far this is the only application I miss. Is there something similar to that available for Linux?

Stuff means anything that can be printed, so it is not about creating pdf's or something similar. Just to watch and edit what you want to print before you actually print it to paper, and that independent of the program you are using.

How can I open multiple "non-merged" firefox windows? With IE, I would use the "-nomerge" option. Is there something similar for Firefox?

I use a website in my daily work activities that I need to have multiple sessions of the website open at any given time. Natively, I cannot have multiple sessions open in a single browser (separated tabs or separate windows) without one session taking over the other. Internet Explorer has a command line option (-nomerge) that will allow me to accomplish what I need. The target line of the IE shortcut properties would look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nomerge
Is there a similar solution for Firefox?
I am running Windows 7, IE11 and Firefox 26

Ntrights.exe Windows 2008 R2 Resource Kit Tool? Does it exist or is there something similar I can use?

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard as a DC
I am trying to add users/groups to the following local policies through a GPO, however I need to script it out using something similar to ntrights.exe. I do not want to do it through the GUI because this is going to be a re-occurring process.
Below are the policies I am trying to configure via some kind of command prompt. I do not think I can do this with PowerShell 2.0 even with the import-module grouppolicy cmdlets.

Would it be safe to copy the Windows Server 2003 ntrights.exe resource kit tool and try it on Windows Server 2008 R2? I am working on a virtual test lab environment so I can actually take a snapshot before hand but wanted your expert thoughts on it first.

I found the solution.....You can actually use "quoted" host names in the templates instead of the SIDs. Make sure that for Domain User Accounts you specify the Domain prefix. For Local User accounts you can just specify the local user name.
The filename of the template that I made is LOCAL_SEC_TEMPLATE.inf

Here's a quickie Motion version covering the basic concepts they use. I didn't have a texture handy and I wanted this to be self contained, so I used the Cloud generator. I animated the gradient in a gradient generator to get the wipe, substituted Gradient Colorize for "Colorama", Underwater filter for "Turbulent Displace", used behaviors instead of keyframes, etc...

Is there something similar to Key Caps in OS 10.5?

Call me old fashioned, but after using Macs for 20 years now, there are actually a few things from the old operating systems I miss, like Key Caps. I've found Font Book but is there anyway it can show me the key strokes required to pull up an embedded character? Or do I have to keep the old PowerMac with OS 8.6 going forever?

There's Widgets in iBooks--Is There Something Comparable in Pages?

A potential client showed me some sample pages he'd had made up for an ebook. They were done in iBooks Author. One of he things they had in it was a Gallery of photos. That is, a frame with a photo showing and an arrow you could click to move on to the other photos in the Gallery. There was also tiny thumbnails of all the photos in this particular Gallery that cold be clicked on to display a particular photo in the Gallery. There was also a frame that displayedmaterial one frame at a time. And you could advance to a new frame by moving a point along a line to the right.
I presume that each of thee thing was a Widget in iBooksAuthor. Is there something similar in Pages '09 for getting the same effect?

No, which is why there are 2 different but quite similar apps. The shame is that Apple doesn't merge the two.
You could use Pages '09 (not Pages 5) to construct a bookmarked .pdf.
I have done some excellent travel guides very quickly and efficiently using these techniques.

You can use either a Sequence File Global or a Station Global. If you don't ever change the value, it will be like a constant. Sequence File Globals are global to the sequence file opened and all sub sequences in it. To create one, on the sequence file window, click the down arrow next to Main Sequence. Select Sequence File Globals. On right hand pane, right click and select Insert Global, then Numer or String or whatever type you desire. Then double click on the newly created global and a window pops up that allows you to assign the value. The value remains constant unless you re-assign it. You can access the global by using FileGlobals.XXX, where XXX is the name of your global.
Station Globals are global to all sequence files on that station. Create by going to the menu bar and clicking on View - Station Globals. Again right click on the right hand pane to create one. Assign a value in the same manner as above. Access it by using StationGlobals.XXX. Once a global is assigned a value, and the sequence file is saved, the next time you open the file, that global will retain the value assigned. No need to assign again.

I have downloaded and used the iPod Reset Utility, alot that did. My current state is iTunes on my XP Home with SP3 sees the iPod. When I drag a song to the iPod, the Sync message appears for about 5 minutes, then the Apple symbol appears. But no song has been transferred to the iPod.
I tried to tap into the XP iTunes database from my iBook, but although it acted like it would add the XP library to the iBook library, it did not. I've got 19 Gs of songs on the XP. If I have to load each song from its original CD to get it on my iBook I'm going to start looking for some other app or device so that I can listen to my music.
It is a shame, in the old days, Apple techs use to look at what was going on, now it appears they don't, so they never know they have problems until Apple's profits fall.

Which theme are you using?
When I am adding text in a slideshow, I found, that it will depend on the theme, if the text will be centered or flushed left. The Classic and Ken Burns theme are centering the text, the newer themes will present it flushed left.
I found no way to select a custom justification for the text.

I've been on a couple websites that tell me that I should download the above mentioned plugin. BUT when I click for it to be installed, I receive the mesage "No suitable plugins were found". You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.
