Is this an Apple joke on PC users?

I just learned that iTunes doesn't delete files if the folder is located outside of the iTunes folder (which happened because I used Creative before I bought an iPod). Meaning, I have of thousands (literally) of files sitting on my computer that are not being used, but will not know which ones they are without a file by file comparison.
So this is what I did:
1) Cut and pasted folder from one location into iTunes folder.
2) Went to "add folder" menu and chose iTunes folder.
3) Watched as appx. 5 gig of music turned into less than 2.5 gig.
After looking to see what the problem is, it appears that iTunes renames compilations based on artist and not album. No problem. But why then does iTunes not read the directory tree it just created? It appears that it only goes through one sub-folder.
For example:
An opera CD (La Traviata) list artist not as Verdi, but as the vocalist (or choir) that is singing. I look in the iTunes folder to see there is a folder named Luciano Pavrotti with a sub folder of Aida. But this chart is NO WHERE to be found in the iTunes library listing. I had to add this subfolder seperately. Again no problem, but there is TWO POINT FIVE GIG that would need this done, and no way to know what files are not added unless I compare the library listing, file by file, with a listing of files on the computer. Or, go through and add every single folder individually. Which would not be bad, except iTunes doesn't allow the for the selection of more than one folder to add at a time (i.e. pressing and holding <Ctrl>). Causing one to click:
<File><Add Folder>, expand iTunes Folder, scroll down, highlight folder to add, and finally click <OK>. Now repeat a few thousand times.
I feel there is little I can do, there really isn't even a question in this post. I just want to say that if this is the engineering on Apple software for something so simple as folder management, it is no wonder that PCs outsell Apple computers by a margin of 90 to 1. All because Apple wants one to use iTunes and Quicktime for default media players. Forcing customers to load music and video through these programs to gain any hope of competent folder management.

After much discussion back and forth between Apple and Denon, it was discovered that the Denon receiver does not support 1080p - only 1080i - this was not the information I orginally received from Denon.
Setting the Apple to use 1080i for the resolution, then configuring the Denon Receiver to use HDMI pass through for the HDMI output resolved this problem.

  • Since years, my wife and I are sharing one Apple computer. On this, we both have an individual user account. Each of us has an own iTunes Account and an own individual media library. Why is this setup now blocked by Apple? Cannot download purchased music.

Since years, my wife and I are sharing one Apple computer. On this, we both have an individual user account. Each of us has an own iTunes Account and an own individual media library. Each of us is using an own individual iPhone, which we frequently update with our iTunes Accounts. We have had this setup for years. It was convenient, reliable and user friendly, since we both could download what we wanted, create playlists, etc. without impact on the other. Exactly this convenience has made me and my wife real Apple fans, so that we also wanted to convince our daughter to move from Android and PC to our easier Apple setup.
Since a few weeks, this setup does not work anymore. From Apple Support (online chat on Apple.at) I was not told that this is not supported any more. Every computer is only allowed to be connected to one iTunes account. From one perspective (sharing music across other users as an act or media piracy, etc.) I can somehow understand this. However, since we are using different user accounts on this computer, I do not have access to other user´s iTunes media and could not play, download or copy it. So what is the point in this?
This now means, that my wife and I are only allowed to download individually purchased music with our personal iTunes accounts only with an interval of 90 days, so every on of us 2 times a year!
Was I incorrectly informed by the Apple support? If so, how can I solve the problem? Or is this really a new policy by Apple? If so, what is the reason? Am I expected to purchase a Mac for my wife, my daughter, myslef and for the three smaller kids to follow soon?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, if Apple simply allowed people to log into different accounts and download content, everyone would be using everyone could share everyone else's content and bypass the need to purchase anything. To protect against this, they limit you to logging into a new account to once every 90 days.
If two or more of you, have different accounts and use only one computer, you should each have your own user account on the computer, to avoid the need to log in and out of iTunes.

Hi there. My iPod Nano was stolen from my car today. I do know the serial number of this stolen device. Is there any way that Apple can block another user from connecting this stolen device to iTunes? Also, if another user was to attempt to connect this stolen device to iTunes, would Apple be able to inform of the username of this person in order that I could then pass this information to the police?

  • Can we creat an Apple ID for multiple users?

I work for a company where we are rolling out iPads in big amounts. The problem is that they all need an Apple ID in the training they get about the iPad they receive because they have to install MobiControl on it.
It's no problem to let them create an Apple ID at home, but they have to fill in credit card numbers once they connect at work when they try to install apps. That's the problem... Not everyone want's or has credit cards...
Maybe it's possible to create an Apple ID for multiple users???
    Thanks!

You may find a better answer in this part of the forum, since it's meant for situations like you're in.
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
is also info about apple ID's.
You can make apple ID's without a credit card, you just have to jump through a couple of hoops to do it since the default is that people will always give a credit card. The key to making an ID without a credit card is that you try to download a free app first, then follow the 'make an ID' prompt. That will get you the 'none' option for payment.

I've just tried it and it shows 'none' as an option for me.  You are creating a new account and have followed the instructions exactly e.g. you've selected a free app in the store and clicked on 'create Apple ID' when 'buying' it ?

  • Apple Configurator and multiple users

I am the Apple admin for a large school district.  I have setup 1200 iPads against some 20 machines (as we have a seperate "configurator station" per school) using a local admin account (the IT maintinence account.  The issue now is that when a control user logs in (IE my LMS specialist who will be handling the iPads from now on), and the machine reports (in configurator) that the connected iPads ARE supervised to that machine.  However, the machine has no control over profiles on the device, even though they had been installed by the other user (on the same machine).
This can't be just my issue, as I am sure several other companies and school districts are using a different (IT) account for initial setup and then releasing iPads into schools or offices.
The only idea I have is to copy the database .store files from application support > com.configurator....  from one user to the other.
Does anyone else have any ideas or solutions to this issue?

My cart iPads are not yet using Configurator however I have been testing. In my test I set up the following and it is working well:
1.supervise and name each iPad with profiles set for wi-fi and applicable restricitions that configurator allows
2.set up one iPad "master" with additional restricitons via settings that Configurator doesn't cover ie don't allow changes to accounts. this also sets the resticitons passcode so a student can not set it
    3.back up the "master"
    4. restore the "master to all of the iPads. this sets the additional restrcitons but does not set the restictions passcode
    5. touch each iPad one time enabling the restrictions and entering a passcode
    6. set Supervise to Do not restore backup
I then set up "users" in configurator as iPad 1, iPad 2 etc. after  the 30 "users" are set up i use assign to check out the fresh iPads to those "users". i then check back in.This creates a backup of "no user data" for each iPad
when the checkout/check in process is used, supervise is set to "do not restore"
the iPads can then be used supervised and at the end of the day or use period i check out the iPads to the above "users" and then check in. this wipes out any data that the student had on the iPad including notes, calender, contacts web pages etc. We will not be saving any student data and this process sets the iPad back to its original state without having to set up restrictions again.
I have always been concerned about students setting calendar events, reminders or notes that are inappropriate and this check out/check in appears to address that concern

  • Apple cause the disabled user identity?

apple cause the disabled user identity?

If your account is disabled then depending on the reason why, you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
Or you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your iPad then try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it

  • How to tell Apple  to stop harrasing users to update to the new iWork

I am reposting my reply in one of the discussions on iWork here as a new thread, hoping to get more direct help with my renewed concerns about iWork update.
We all have our own field of profession, our own workload and deadlines to meet.... I don't think it's ethical for Apple to dump that responsibility to users.
It's Apple's responsibility to make sure their updates don't leave out the features that users of the old version had invested their precious time / money in -- especially if Apple relentlessly pushes users to upgrade
It's been **** ever since my upgrade to new iWork. Long story short, I was back to iwork 9, after many trips to apple store, many hours reading and trying out various suggestions from forum discussion,  and much headaches and loss of productivity....
After all that, you think Apple would leave you alone?  No. Last week, I could not open my files that I need for my work beause an automatic update was running for me DESPITE the fact that a genious bar guy helped to make sure No AUTOMATIC UPDATE is selected in my system preference.
Now, I am back again with iWork 09, I want to keep it that way until Apple comes up with a sensible/responsible iWork update ...
But I am worried that the new version will be back on me, causing disruption again  ... because I still see everyday Apple's notification urging me to update.
Please help me find out: How to tell Apple  to stop harrasing users to update to their new iWork ?
How to hold Apple accountable ?
Your attention and suggestion is greatly appreciated.

    Peter,
Thank you for your response. I know what you meant, and don't disagree with most of you said. Just wanted to avoid sending conflicting info to Razor06, I thought I'd make the following kind of counter points:
I am doing fine with my old Pages now, but not after frustrating weeks caught in between the 2 versions of Pages... In my experience, when both versions of Pages were running in my hard drive, the New version overtook the task every time... I could not get out of the trap until after I moved the New version to an external drive.
I used the word 'corrupted' facetiously to refer to the files that were opened by the New version
You were right: no need to re-save the old files that are not touched by the new version.... I said the same thing, but perhaps not as clearly ...
Apple does send me update notifications from time to time, because I only turned off the Auto Update. I did not turn off the Auto Check because I thought I still need it.
Totally see your points, no disagreement here:
             " Just get this straight:
There are old files and software, and new files and software.
The old can't open the new. "
    Thanks again !

  • IPhoto Freezing up.  How to report this to Apple?

I am experiencing freezing issues with iPhoto and have all the latest firmware updates installed. I edit hundreds of photos in my library daily. Several times during this process, iPhoto freezes up, and the little rainbow ball just keeps spinning, and I am unable to do anything. I never get the "error" message with the option to report it to Apple. How to I manually report this to Apple? I do not need one on one service, and I am out of my 90-day period anyway. I only know of a way to report problems with iTunes. How does an iPhoto user report problems?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Jay
    That
"error" message with the option to report it to Apple
Happens when an app crashes. I doubt that any human reads those reports, but my guess is that they are datamined, so I don't think doing that will find you a quick solution
Why not try here for help.
How big is your HD? How much free space on it? How big is your library? What Mac are you on? How much RAM do you have? Are you editing RAW or jpeg?

  • Is this an Apple Problem or a Denon Problem?

I use the most recent Mac Mini as a media center in my living room. Using a DVI to HDMI adapter the Mac Mini video feeds into my Denon AVR-4306 Receiver. The audio is pumped out of the standard headphone jack. At the end of each viewing session, the TV and receiver are powered off, but the Mac Mini stays on.
Prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard this setup worked great - but after the upgrade, I'm now having a video display issue and I'm not sure if I should call Apple or Denon to help resolve this.
I set Snow Leopard to use the 1080p resolution setting. I've confirmed that both my reciever and my TV are indeed 1080p and upon first boot things work perfect. The problem starts when I turn off the TV and Receiver. What happens is, after the TV and Receiver are turned off, the Mac Mini is reverting to the 720P display setting. The next time the TV and receiver are turned on, I'm looking at a 720P display setting.
I don't understand why it's flipping to this lower resolution and am wondering if anyone has a fix that will prevent this from happening?
I have found two workarounds - neither are any good. The first is after turning back on the TV and receiver, using the keyboard shortcut to log out. Logging out triggers the display check and it reverts back to the 1080p setting. A reboot also fixes this issue.
Secondly, is this an Apple problem or a Denon Receiver problem?

After much discussion back and forth between Apple and Denon, it was discovered that the Denon receiver does not support 1080p - only 1080i - this was not the information I orginally received from Denon.
Setting the Apple to use 1080i for the resolution, then configuring the Denon Receiver to use HDMI pass through for the HDMI output resolved this problem.

    Hi,
This problem normally arises with the wrong combination of JDK and OS and for the Linux machines, its better to use IBM Java instead of SUN java
I remember that I have solved this type of problem by using lower version of IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-10.0.x86_64.rpm which is SR10. You can download this version from
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html
go to download _12 and then just change the sr12 to sr10 in the header url....
