Is this possible? PLEASE HELP!

I have a reasonable amount of experience with video editing, but have never been involved with the DVD authoring process.
I am involved in a fairly major project now, and want to suggest an idea, but need first to check if it is feasible.
To simplify the explanation, lets say i have three sections of video.
I'd like them to play as one continuous whole 'ABC'.
I'd also like to include the option to watch the piece without section B, ie 'AC', (again viewable as one continuous piece).
Would it be possible to trim A, B, and C to the common sections that would be used in both versions, then create crossfading sections that went A/B and B/C, and also one that went A/C, then use playlists to make the two continuous pieces:
'A'-'A/B'-'B'-'B/C'-'C'
'A'-'A/C'-'C'
Would I get a glitchy gap between the 'main chunk' of A and the crossfade A/B, for example?
I hope that my explanation makes some kind of sense, and I really hope someone can tell me for definite whether this is likely to be possible or not.
Thanks for reading!
Miller.

The skip takes place if you move between physical locations on the disc - i.e. if you are at one end of a track and need to skip to the other to play the next chapter in the sequence - the playhead has to move to the new location and re-focus to start playback from there. The length of the pause will depend on the DVD Player as much as anything else.
The only way to make this smoother is to add different versions of the asset to the disc. As I see it, the A, AB, B, BC, C stories should all be OK... so create a film of the AC situation and add it as a track, if you have room to do so.
You can then use the ABC fil for most of the playback (play all, AB, BC) and the other asset for the AC playback only.
