Is this possible with Spry menu and Dreamweaver cs4?

I just starting to learn DreamWeaver cs4 and Spry, I am building a website that has a flash banner, menu bar(which is using the Spry Menu Bar, and a area for content. I have set up the content area with a DIV tag content_column. Now, I would like to have the link from the menu bar, populate the "content_column" with a external web page. I know that I can use the _parent, _blank, etc. setting for the target which just opens that link into a new browser page or replaces my current page, but I would like that link to open in the "content_column" part of my web site. The reason why I want this to happen, is so that the whole page, including the banner doesnt have to load ever single time the user click on a differnt menu option. These external pages will have different elements in them suchs as text, images, and .swf files.

Gregg,WELCOME!!! To the Dreamweaver Spry Forum! I see it is your first post...
Instead of using frames (of any kind) to show "other" web pages within your present page, try out the Spry Tabbed Panels widget.
I think it will do what you want. I've used it quite a bit, in various incarnations, and it is quite satisfactory in not redrawing the page every time you strike a tab.

Can I trigger a sound on rollover with spry menu?

I am using a spry menu (horizontal) for a client's website. He really wants to have a sound as the viewer rolls over the tab that triggers the dropdown.
Is it possible to do this using the spry menu in Dreamweaver CS4?

It is possible using javascript, but I'm not the only one who'll tell you, probably the most annoying thing you can do is add sounds to a website that play automatically and that the visitor can't turn off or control the volume of without muting their system.
I read a "horror story" about a gun store that hired some friend of the owner to build their site. Imagine about three seconds after the homepage loads (and you have iTunes playing as you work) suddenly the office is filled with the sound of automatic gunfire (too likely an occurrence, to be taken lightly these days). Poor fellow was looking for ammuntion prices for an upcoming hunting trip (all perfectly legal) and scared three co-workers so badly they nearly quit their jobs.
Granted, your client probably doesn't want anything like that, but one of the quickest ways to drive people away from a site is the have an annoying click, or swoosh every time they navigate to a different page.

How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?
I have cs4. I gave up on using MS sql as a datasource. I finally got a php successfull connection in my PHP web page.
I would like a nice video tutorial for creating a dynamic menu.
I guess i can style it by attaching a css file to the page. Are their any already designed css files out there in some online area?
i am not a good designer. so i would like to simply have a collection of menu_style.css files and choose what looks good.
But first i need to build the spry menu from the mysql database.
Any help is apprechiated.
My first choice was to maintain the data in an MS sql server file. If i could directly attach to an ms sql datasource then that would be the best option.
I dont think i want to have to re-generate an XML datasource each time i add or modify the menu. I would like to maintain the MS Sql or mySql file instead.
If i could generate an XML datasource from the MS Sql database then I may even prefere that, but i have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do that and not had any success. So i prefere working in MS sql but would settle for mySql if i had to.

Spry menu and Explorer

I'm a beginner with DW and CSS. In Dreamweaver cs3 if I make
a new page and put the spry vertical menu on it, then preview in IE
(5.2 for the Mac), it doesn't work. It does work in every other
browser. What do I have to do in order to get this to work in
Explorer?
I've made a 35 page site with a spry menu and I do hope there
is a way to fix this.

1: Don't use Spry. It has been discontinued by Adobe.
2: There are tools out there that will excellently do what you are looking to do as a Dreamweaver Plugin. This includes having text over a repeating image background, like the one you have there.
3: There is a pure CSS method that will allow you to learn how to build exactly what you want.
One from Line 25.
One from CSSWizardry.
One that includes a generator.
One that includes gradients.
A really good tutorial from Rob Glazebrook.
One that uses just 12 lines of JavaScript.
So, don't use Spry. Use the ones above. If you don't want to have to learn anything, simply download the one from Project Seven, install the plugin, craft the menu and, Bob's your uncle. Easy to maintain and add onto as well. Worth the money spent.
The rest of the ones do require some knowledge of HTML and CSS and, if you are going to continue to develop for the web, I recommend you learn those things.

Parenting issue with Spry menu boxes...

Ok, I'm using my spry menu and have sub menus hooked to them. Now the problem I'm having is that every time I change the size of the sub menu box, it changes the size of the main menu box. This is fustrating since I've got only 3 links in the sub menu box and about 6 inches of colorized box space below. Also, when I move one sub menu box it effects all of the other sub menu boxes but not the main one. I believe there's a parent-child issue to where they are connect but I don't know how to unlink these boxes so that they can act independently. Please help!!!

I managed to change the widths of the submenus on my 'test' spry menu and it didn't effect the topbar at all. The changes show in red below:

Problem with Spry Menu

I have two problems related with Spry Menubar in Dreamweaver CS3.
First I would like to make the menu transparent (I have a nice graphic I would like to show under). I cannot make it in IE. I wonder if anybody has any ideas.
Second my menu has a strange behaviour.
I use the following code to load a page named test1.html into a div named MyDiv of the page that has the menu:

the LoadURL function runs correctly.
However the first time I load the page in IE I need to click 2 times on Item1.1 to load test1.html. After that the menu works correctly loading test1.html with only one click. Pretty strange!!!!

Help with Spry form and Validation

We have a form with shipping and billing information. When
you fill out the billing and select same as billing radio button.
Then it fills out the shipping fields properly using focus to make
sure the spry validation recognizes the input. Everything on the
form appears to be valid in Firefox Windows and Mac and Safari but
the submit button does not work. Before we started we go the
shipping fields to populate with the billing data the form
submitted fine.
On IE 7 the 1st Zip code fields shows the error messages and
then only some of the hints show up in the spry validate fields
below. This is only on IE. When you populate the shipping section
in IE with the radio button in fills in everything but that
shipping zip again on IE only. You actually have to manually type
in the zip.
Is this IE bug related to the form not submitting in the
other browsers?
I don't understand why the form in all the other browsers
appears to have all fields validate but will not submit.
I bet between three of us we have 60 hours in the stupid form
and 2/3rds of it is not billable.
On the other hand we need to finish this today!!. We will all
be around at about 3 on Sunday. I am happy to pay someone to look
at this and help us get through this last step.
I wish there was some debug tool we could use to see what is
going on. I look at the debug.js file in 6 in the meantime. I can

Thanks for the response. We were looking for a way to remove
the hints but did not see anything in the documentation.
But I am still having issues.
A. Not sure how you are not seeing the text "Zip is
required.Invalid format." in the grey area next to zip
code fields. It is there on IE 6 and 7 4 different users with
different computers see it.
B. As soon as I add you code you suggested and comment out
what we had it throws and error in IE and the debug says it is at
the 1st instance of your method sprytextfield20.removeHint();
Object does not support method.
C. A new problem we did not notice last night on all browsers
is that the form now does not respect the spry validations. It
submits no matter what. I am using this to submit the form.

I still would like to have someone really look at this form
with me and pay them if I have to. But it really does not seem that
the path we are talking really works.
I am going to roll this back to where it was till I can get
some help.

Hints have to go because if we fill down with fields that
have hints then the hints become the values and are submitted. And
it also breaks the spry validation.
I would hope that the way we are rebuilding the zip and state
fields would be possible with spry. It sure looks like it works. My
hope is it is not causing the submit to not work.
Anyway I still need help from someone who would be willing to
take the time ort has the time to look over the page and al lthe
logic we are using and see if there is a better way to do this
even. This form is ending up costing me more time in non billed
hours then the job itself. Yipes!!!
As far as the HTML tags I will look at that again there are a
bunch of includes build some of this page but I do see the
beginning <html> seems to have been lost and I put it
back in.
D. I realize there is a fault with this method in the 1st
place since it replaces the hints with values even if the value is
the hint. Any suggestion on how to deal with that? are these hints
more trouble then they are worth when used as field names. Should
we just redisgn and use the field names in the 1st place?

Printing Problems with Spry Menu. Help?

When I have a spry menu in the banner or main image and
go to print. Well the image of banner or main image will not print out. It comes out as blank space, with just menu and no background pic.

Updating to Mavericks issues with Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver

Since updating to Mavericks I am having problems with Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver opening files on Parallels VM and network servers. Will updating Java to 7 help? Everything worked before upgrade. Photoshop say files are empty, in Dreamweaver the document is blank and Illustrator crashes. If I open the files off my local machine everything works fine.

I'm a student and only have Windows XP. I'm working with Fireworks CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6. Can I just get the two of them or do I need to subscribe to the Creative Cloud? Also, can I get Dreamweaver CS6 on the Cloud? I know I can't use Dreamweaver CC with XP.

the i linked it with dynamik link to after, make some color correction, etc etc etc
i renderd in quicktime animation
my video looks fine in my computer, but when i send my .mov video to encore (cs6) in a HD MENU and standard menú, the image sucks.

Today, my FCC complaint hit the same person working on the BBB complaint. Jimmie has been very nice and seems willing to work with this problem. We have been able to come to an agreement. I paid the purchase price for the phone and he returned my upgrade and unlimited data plan. This is what would have occurred if Verizon had given me correct information to begin with. I am happy with this result. He also brought quite a few instances concerning the handling of my transfer and upgrade that did not follow proper procedure. I am also confident that I would not have resolved this without complaining to BBB and or FCC. Verizon had no interest in solving the problem nor did they show any propensity to keeping a 20 year client. Even though this last CSR was very polite and helpful, his sole job is to respond to formal Federal and State complaints. He is required by law to address every complaint and report the reporting agency the agreed upon results - good or bad. Again, I suggest - If you are not getting the proper customer service, complain to someone outside of Verizon. Jimmie had not received any complaints registered with Verizon directly and I still have not had any contact with any other management representative that I was told would call.
