ISight camera present but not working

System Report lists the camera but it's X'd out
in FaceTime and not present in Skype. After
re-setting NVRAM it appeared briefly then
vanished. Some advise re-setting the SMC
but Apple's own KB didn't support that.

Good.  Having eliminated several of the easiest things, we will try the next (more time consuming) things that may resolve your problem.
Tom Meade1 wrote: ... this is our faith, no?...
Not mine, no.
Tom Meade1 wrote:... System Report shows what I think is a camera...
You are correct that your SR report shows that your Mac recognized its inbuilt camera.
Tom Meade1 wrote:... Does it seem like a software issue that can be remedied...
Yes.
Tom Meade1 wrote:... does the Genius have methods beyond what we've done here?...
Yes.  The Geniuses have access to proprietary Special Tools, Test Equipment, and Technical Data that allow them to fix things beyond what us users can do.  That is why, if all else fails, or if you don't want to take the time to continue trying to resolve this yourself,  I suggest you contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
Tom Meade1 wrote:... FaceTime and PhotoBooth still show no camera or X'd out...
Because more than one up-to-date app fails in more than one user account, your Mac's system software may be damaged.  The remedy for this is to reinstall OS X.  Regardless of the reinstall method you use, backup your Mac before you reinstall OS X.
If your Mac shipped with OS X 10.7, you can use the backup installer that came with your Mac.  Then apply the 10.7.5 Combo Update to return to the latest version in one update step.  I recommend that you repair permissions before and after installing and updating.
If you do not have a 10.7.x installer, you can use the Lion Recovery HD method Kappy explains in http://discussions.apple.com/thread/3531813.
After reinstalling, test again using the How to Troubleshoot iSight method.
If the problem continues in more than one app and more than one user account, the only remaining thing I know that might remedy the problem is to zero your startup disk and do a clean install of your Apple software.  If iSight works then, you know that some other software was causing a conflict.  This is a time consuming process that I described in this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/message/18614637.  (You will use the current 10.7.5 Combo Update vs. the 10.7.4 version that was current at the time of the referenced post.)
If none of the things recommended to this point resolve your iSight problem, the only remaining suggestion I can offer is to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Bluetoth on X61s present but not working?

First, if there is Bluetooth on my machine at all?
Parts list of my machine: http://ge.tt/2pN3fu91/v/0
Both X60 and X61s have Bluetooth indicator under the screen. Under Ubuntu X60s Bluetooth work flawlessly, it sees some Bluetooth for X61s but I can't transfer a file from my phone to the laptop.
Situation is the same with Windows 7: X60: Bluetooth is working, X61s, does not (one time I have seen the hardware wizard shown something, but I could not replicate, don't know how got there.)

  • Windows 8.1 64bit. Webcam works with "Camera" app but not with Skype.

I've spent a few hours googling and trying out various things - all listed below. I give up - any ideas??? OS: Windows 8.1 64bitMemory: 32GBWebCam: Microsoft VX-7000. As per subject - the webcam works with the "Camera" app but not with Skype for desktop or for Modern UI (or the Microsoft Lifecam software for that matter).  Already attempted: 1) Uninstall webcam drivers - download latest from microsoft (Windows 7) and install in Windows 7 compatibility mode.2) Close (from taskmgr) anything that looks like it might use Webcam. 3) Run Skype for Desktop in Windows 7 and 8 compatibility modes None of the above work. In Skype for Modern UI the webcam doesn't appear in the drop down in Settings - so I can't even select it. In Skype for desktops (version 6.11.32.102) the webcam is found but instead of image I get "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam". I see from a bit of googling that various people seem to have the same issue (i.e. Webcam works with Camera app but not Skype) - so I'm hopeful someone has found a workaround / fix to this issue and I've just not had the googling skills to find it  Thanks, - Matt Symes

OK - I appear to have resolved the issue.  I restricted my google terms to [vx-7000 site:microsoft.com "windows 8.1"] Which uncovered this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933311 I noticed there were a couple of Windows 7 x64 specific registry settings that were mentioned so I checked these and they weren't as per the article. In fact - one of the Registry Keys was already used by other software "AI Charger+" which is some ValueAdd software that came with my motherboard. I uninstalled AI Charger+, uninstalled LifeCam driver. Reinstalled LifeCam driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Still not working. I returned to the registry and noticed the settings still differed from the above article. I corrected them (which involved not just amending Data but having to add new Values). I then disabled and reenabled the LifeCam from dvcmgmt.msc I was then able to get video from the webcam in the Skype for Desktop preview screen.

  • Built-in isight camera suddenly stops to work

Almost one year later after buy a Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5.6), the built-in isight camera suddenly stops to work. It was doing well until now. It's a program and user independent bug. During a video conversation, it just stops. It happens when I use mercury or skype (the only video chat programs I use). And just after, when I try to restart the chat, the program doesn't recognize the camera.
Only when I boot the computer (shut down -> cable unplugged -> battery out -> 5s pressing boot button -> battery in -> cable on -> turn on) the problem is fixed for a while... but then the problem happens agains... the problem occurs after the 4th or 5th time Im using the program...
Any suggestions??? Thank you in advance.

  • Built-in camera macbook pro not working

    Hi guys,
lately the built-in camera on my macbook pro hasn't been working properly: at first it works normally then after a while it stops (the green light stays on) and when I open photo booth or other programmes it says "camera not connected", how can I fix this?
    Thanks

One of these will fix your problem:
    (1) If restarting your Mac doesn't fix the problem,
    (2) use Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.
(BTW - Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
Be sure to test more than one Apple app in more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account for this test.  If you do not have more than one user account for the testing, create a new one now.  If you need help, here's how to do it in your Mac OS:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468  (A "Standard" account is all you need for testing.)
    (3) If your cam still does not work properly, use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the latest Combo Update for your OS.  Currently, the latest ML Combo is here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the update.
    (4) The only other action I know that you can do on your own is to use OS X Recovery to completely reinstall your Mac OS.
    (5) If none of the above suggestions resolve your trouble, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider to have your Mac professionally serviced.

No one here can help you. If your phone is no longer under warranty, a third-party repair shop will most likely be your best bet. You can't mail the phone to Apple, in the US, as Apple does not accept international shipments. You could mail it to a friend/relative, in the US, & they could take it to an Apple store for you. Some Apple stores repair iPhones. Otherwise, you're looking at an out of warranty replacement.
    Good luck.

I updated my iPod Touch to 6.0.1. -- after much prompting from iTunes. Now my music is GONE (along with apps, photos and podcasts). After syncing a bunch of times some of it came back, but not all of it. How odd is that? How can I get my music back?? I'm really bummed! Everything shows in iTunes, but it's not synching right. So glad I updated. NOT.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.
