Isolated problem

Hi,
We are having a problem with a machine that is being prepared as a web server using IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. In this, our web application must access an Oracle database thas is on a Sun Solaris machine.
We have installed the Oracle client on the Windows machine, the way we can use the OleDB for Oracle to make the access to the database. Our web application have a COM+ component to do all the job of retrieve and store data in the database.
The problem we are finding is that in this machine, every data we save to the database get corrupted. This does not happen on other windows machines we have, that have similar environment. If we use SQL+, we can make inserts or updates whithout any corruption of data.
I'm not a skilled person on Oracle and sincerilly I have no idea about what is causing this strange behavior.
What I would like is that someone could give me some directions or hints about where to investigate the causes of this problem. Eventually, someone have had a similar problem and can help me with it.
Thanks,
Fernando

Can you describe the "corruption"?
Justin

  • Isolating problems with MPEG2 VBR "best"

There have long been discussions here around problems with the quality of MPEG2 compression with Compressor v2.x, usually difficult to quantify or "solved" with "It doesn't work, use something else" such as a different product, Compressor v1 or a Quicktime MPEG2 export component. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I have to believe that someone who owns the code behind the Compressor product really does care to improve the quality of the compression, and is just waiting for a decent test case to figure-out what everyone is complaining about.
That in mind, I would like to propose that the most visible problems I've seen can be isolated to something to do with what is done when switching from "VBR" compression to "VBR best" compression, either in 1-pass or 2-pass mode. I would be curious if others who have had similar quality complaints could also check if they are using "VBR best" compression, such as the various default presets for "DVD: MPEG2 best quality..." which use "2-pass VBR best". In short, it seems as though one can get rid of the most serious artifacting problems by taking a "best quality" preset and changing the quality from "2-pass VBR best" to simply "2-pass VBR" (and similarly for 1-pass).
My own example: I've taken a short clip (less than 30 seconds) from the start of a recent home movie and published it along with some results on my iDisk's Public folder (Finder > Go > iDisk...): member name "dickermn" [sic], with no password. There you will find the folder CompressorTest, containing...
    -> 2006winter - a self-contained QT movie with the DV source material.
    -> dualG4 - a folder with the results of Compressor's MPEG2 compression with various settings, as run on a dual-1GHz G4 system.
-> coreDuo - a folder with the results of the same settings as above, but with Compressor run from a coreDuo mini.
-> *.png - two pairs of window-capture shots showing the same frames as compressed with "VBR" and "VBR best" settings.
Background: after having various odd and intermittent problems with MPEG2 compression results, I've used the recent upgrades to start with a clean slate: on the G4 system I ran Software Update, then removed all the components of DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor and Qmaster, along with all preferences, application support files, frameworks, receipts, etc, as recommended in these web pages to remove these programs, then did a full install of my unversal upgrade to Final Cut Studio, and re-ran Software Update. This got me up to the current ProApps updates and Compressor v2.3.
Using only Compressor's default presets, selecting "DVD: Best Quality 150 minutes - 4:3" (2-pass VBR best, 3.7Mbps average rate), gives results with very visible artifacting. Using this same preset but changing the quality to "2-pass VBR" appears to clear up the most visible problems. Similarly, selecting "DVD: Fastest Encode 150 minutes - 4:3" (1-pass VBR) gives good results, but changing the preset's quality to "1-pass VBR best") produces visible artifacting.
For the purposes of testing, I also installed just Compressor on my coreDuo mini - a clean install - then ran Software Update to bring this to Compressor v2.3. Running the same tests as above on the Intel-based machine produced similar artifacting problems when selecting "best quality", but in different places in the media than on the G4. Using the same quality settings as above, but moving the average bitrate down to 3.0Mbps has similar behavior, but the artifacts are just more pronounced, and using a default preset with higher bitrate (5Mbps average, not included here) the artifacts are still quite visible, but less pronounced. From the 3Mbps results on the G4, the still frames captured show good examples of the problems at hand, though the artifacts are much more visible with the video in motion. These are the examples described below.
The clip shows some still titles against a still, horizontal-blurred background. At the end of the titles, the blurred background "un-blurs" and the motion starts: a horizontal pan, a wipe transition, and a downward pan. The subject is all falling snow, trees, our back deck, my son and me. The footage was taken with a consumer-grade Sony handheld camcorder.
The problems first noticable in the video appear as a blockiness to the images, particularly notable against the floor of snow where the image shifts visibly to different intensities of gray/white as the camera moves. More severe are blocks which don't move correctly with the camera, at first visible as a jerkiness to the opening background as it un-blurs, but more pronounced in the trees and decking during the downward pan at the end.
At about 14s is a good still of the blocking artifacts, seen here in the 1-pass VBR still frame. Note the large blocks in the snow in the "best" encoding, which are small enough to be lost in the noise for the "not-best" encoding. These shimmer between the different shades of gray as the camera moves.
At the last half of the clip, as the camera pans down, parts of the trees appear to jump independently of their branches. This is very clearly visible around the straight-lines of the railing in the lower part of the frame as the clip ends. The still is from about 23s into the clip, and you can see a block of the railing in the lower right which has clearly jumped-above the rest of the railing. Interestingly enough, this is the correct placement for those pixels in the next frame (as the camera continues to pan downward). In each of these "jumpy" cases, it would appear as though blocks of pixels show-up one frame early, and their surrounding blocks catch-up in the next frame (while these hold still). Again, when using the same settings without "best" quality, the jumping does not occur.
Note that with each pair of still (png) images you can group-select the pair and double-click to open them both in Preview, which allows you to toggle back-and-forth easily between the "best" and "not-best" versions. Comparing the two, you can easily spot several blocks in the frame which shift relative to their surroundings.
While I am aware that MPEG2 at low bitrates is a complicated thing (though I will leave open for debate how low 3-4Mbps is in today's world), and consumer-grade video has lots of noise which the encoder has to dance-around, I do believe it is fair to assume that the "best" settings should give visibly better results than their faster "non-best" counterparts, all else being equal - at the very least, the results should not be visibly worse. It is worth noting that the "best" VBR settings do appear (subjectively) to give better contrast or color-depth, so clearly something right is going-on - I just have to believe that there is something going awry in the whole process which creates artifacts negating the other benefits, but which, with any luck, could easily be fixed.
Please post with your comments, experiences or similar issues... or exactly what is the proper way to get this information to someone who could fix it?
    dual 1GHz G4 + coreDuo mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Compressor v2.3 / Final Cut Studio (univseral)

Well, I've found one more piece to this puzzle: hardware graphics accelerators.
In short, I tried this same test running Compressor on my G4 PowerBook (with Radion Mobility 9700) and got better results. The terrible blockiness and pixelation problems seem - dare I say it - gone from the MPEG2 video. In this regard, the video compressed as both the default "2-pass VBR best" and the same preset adjusted to use "1-pass VBR best" both looked cleaner than any of the VBR "not best" encodings produced on this machine, or either of the others.
Unfortunately, we're not completely out of the woods: the problems evidenced later in the clip - blocks which appear displaced in space/time for one frame - are still there, though they have moved to different locations in the frame.
This gets me to thinking: my PowerBook is just barely past current muster in terms of hardware-accelerated graphics (enough to run Motion, for example), whereas my other two machines are not (NVidia GForce4Ti & mini's Intel graphics). So this starts to get to the root of "If these presets don't work, why does Apple label them best - or distribute them at all?" I'm going to hazard a guess that there are various pieces to the codecs which can take either a software-only path or a hardware-accelerated path, and the bugs seen here exist only in the software (non-accelerated) path. Anyone testing on the latest top-notch hardware with a fancy-shmancy graphics card wouldn't go down that path and see any problems. And the problems are subtle enough that they'd even slip by the occasional testing of the slower path.
So now I'm out to find a more-current-than-my-PB graphics card to run the test, to see if I can get rid of the other problem. Updating to Compressor v2.3 got rid of most of the problems, and if buying new hardware is all it takes to fix MPEG2 compression, I might just spring for it - and hey, I'd get to run Motion, too.
So anyone out there with a whiz-bang graphics card care to run these tests and compare/contrast with what I've got here? I might know someone with a new MacBookPro, which I hear has a pretty current graphics chip in it...

  • Really strange cluster isolation problem....

We are still using Coherence 3.6.0 and is experiencing a really strange problem with two test clusters:
Cluster 1 uses wka a.b.c.d:9000 and cluster name "cluster1"
Cluster 2 uses wka e.f.g.h:9000 and cluster name "cluster2"
I can using JMX and log files see that both clusters have started successfully with node 1 (the single wka) using port 9000.
A client program first connects successfully to cluster 1 (using cluster 1 wka and cluster name as above). After the program terminate the same client program is run again this time versus cluster 2 (using cluster 2 wka and cluster name as above) but this time the connection is refused and to our total surprise the error message indicates that the Cluster 1 wka node a.b.c.d:9000 has refused connection and that the cluster name should be "Cluster 1"!!!!!!! We have checked and re-checked that the right combination of wka and cluster name (for cluster 2) is specified on the command line the second time....
Short of a DNS configuration problem (we are in fact using server names rather than physical IPs in the command line overrides) that would resolve the two wka node names to the same physical IP I cant see any solution (not involving woodo, alien intervention and/or the Bermuda triangle) to this behaviour. I actually tried pinging the two host names and could see that they indeed resolved to different IPs to eliminate this, unlikely but possible, problem...
It is my understanding that when specifying a unique wka for two clusters there is no need to set up unique multicast addresses / ports (since multicast is not at all used in this case) - can somebody confirm that this is indeed true or if this could have anything to do with our problem?!
Any suggestions or ideas (in addition to hiring a shaman to exorcise our servers :-)) are warmly appreciated...
    /Magnus

After studying the problem more in detail I have come to the conclusion that this indeed seem to be a bug in Coherence 3.6.0. It does however not occur with 3.6.1 or 3.7.0 but if the problem is unknown I would have checked it out...
The problem is really easy to reproduce. Create two clusters (can be single storage node, local or remote does not matter) each with a unique WKA port (of course).
Execute a simple client program (non storage enabled) first against the one cluster then against the other. The program I used just looked up a cache ("near-test") and printed its size (in this case zero since I never loaded anything into the cluster).
You don't need to enable pof or anything specia. The cache-config iin the coherence.jar works fine. I have tested this both on distributed clusters on Linux and locally on a single Windows box.
You will notice that the program works against the first cluster but fails when run against the second.

  • Photoshop problem isolated to user account.

I am unable to open Adobe Photoshop CS2. An error displays, unrecoverable problem has occurred because something prevented the text engine from being initialized. Support helped me to isolate this problem to my user account. Now I would like to fix the problem in my user account. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot a user account isolated problem?

I had a copy of Photoshop saved on my external drive and it booted up and performed perfectly. I then read your reply and, when I went to delete the plist, I found that it had just been modified. My hard drive Photoshop now boots fine also. I'm sure that means your solution of deleting the file would have also worked.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problems after installing Bootcamp 3.1

    Hello everyone.
I had installed Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate in a Bootcamp partition. I used the SL disk to install Bootcamp 3.0 which, with some audio related problems which were solved by changing the drivers, worked well. All sounds played, the graphics card behaved normally, etc.
Recently I got the alert of a Bootcamp update, 3.1, as we all know. After installing it without a hitch, small problems began to pop up.
First, no Windows startup sound played anymore, and there has been no way for me to make it work again. I've gone to countless forums and gone through an endless barrage of suggestions, including a complete formatting, but it always leads back to the same, isolated problem: Startup sound plays in BT 3.0, doesn't play anymore in BT 3.1.
But more importantly, after pretty much giving up with the startup sound issue (it's only that particular sound, in the login screen, so I decided to ignore it's absence), more problems appeared. Initially, all system tray icons appeared swiftly. Now the main ones, Sound, Wireless Connection and Battery appear fast, but the rest take at least 5 minutes to appear. This is again something that wasn't present in Bootcamp 3.0.
Yet another problem, this one I consider is the most important, and the real reason for this post of mine, is that Bootcamp 3.1 brought a serious driver problem with my Macbook Pro's 9400M video card. Doing the most stupid of tasks such as opening the video card's control panel from the Desktop gives me the following error:
"The NVIDIA Display Panel extension cannot be created.
    Possible reasons include:
Version mismatch. Reinstalling the drivers may solve this problem."
Now, the Device Manager shows no errors in hardware-driver smoothness in any aspect, yet it's clear that the driver that BT 3.1 installs for the video card was either faulty or old, or for another OS. I went to NVIDIA's site to manually get the driver, but it turns out that they offer no NVIDIA GeForce 9400M drivers for Windows 7 64 bit. So I wonder, how come it worked before? Because in Bootcamp 3.0 the Control Panel would open flawlessly.
So this is serious. Gaming has also turned into a nightmare, since the problem with the video card negatively affects the smoothness of the gameplay. Apple, things weren't working 100% with BT 3.0, but BT 3.1 far from making things better just got everything worse.
I ask everyone here if there is a known solution. Should I install the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M drivers for Windows 7 32 bit? Why doesn't the driver installed by BT 3.1 function as it should when it's supposed to be covering Windows 7 compatibility? Why are the barrage of audio errors present in BT 3.1 and not in BT 3.0? What happened with my startup sound?
Apple, you're offering the possibility for your users to user Windows for compatibility and gaming. You market your Macs are fully compatible and flawless even running Windows. Don't come about saying this is not your problem, it is. It's your drivers, you develop them, you give them to us. If they don't work, you must do something about it. If not, then stop offering the Bootcamp service completely. If you're gonna do something, do it well.

  • Problem with Matrox Mini, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570, Premiere 5.5.2 and After Effects CS5.5

    Hello,
We have a couple video workstation PC's in our office.
Premiere and After Effects have been crashing lately with increasing frequency - about every two minutes now.
    Here is the setup:
    Hardware
Matrox Mini - Matrox Utility release 5.5.1
Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 - Driver release 275.33
Intel Xeon X5660 2.8 GHz processors
    24 GB Ram
    Software
    Adobe CS5.5, specifically...
    After Effects 10.5.0.253
    Premiere 5.5.2
    Windows 7 64-bit
We have two 21" LCD monitors in dual display running from the computer, and the Matrox Mini outputs a preview signal to a 15" CRT.
The crashes occur when I have After Effects and Premiere open at the same time. I am editing in a Matrox 720p29.97 timeline in Premiere. I imported several compositions from AE into Premiere through Dynamic Link and am matching audio with the animations in comps. When I switch back to AE to make an edit in the comp, After Effects generates a crash warning and then gives me the opportunity to save the project under a new name. After saving, it closes down completely. The Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel in the system tray crashes during AE's crash, disabling the preview to the CRT from Premiere and AE. Since the Premiere sequence is a Matrox preset - in order to have output to the CRT - this freezes the timeline; the video and audio no longer play. When I save and then try to close Premiere, Premiere freezes and will not close without a force quit via the Task Manager.
In order to deal with this temporarily, I am editing in an AVCHD 720p30 sequence preset in Premiere, which doesn't send a preview feed to the CRT, obviously, since it's not a Matrox preset and the CRT is connected via the Matrox Mini. It's more than a minor inconvenience, since I use the CRT for color accuracy.
It is frustrating, since we did not have this problem until the recent CS5.5.2 update. We have tried changing drivers for the GTX 570 and changing the Matrox utility software to other versions, but no luck.
Is there a combination of GTX 570 drivers, Matrox software releases, and AE/Premiere settings that will make this work? I know there are "Known Issue" posts with Nvidia cards on Matrox's website, which include the GTX 570, but, again, this problem started with the Adobe CS5.5.2 update.
Any help here would be great, and I am willing to provide more information about the system and our crashes if it helps find a solution for the community, as I know this is not an isolated problem after reading Nvidia's, Matrox's, and Adobe's forums. I just can't find a hollistic solution on any of the individual manufacturer's forums.
    Thank You.
    Jordan

I've been running with Matrox for years, starting with the Axio LE. I do 75% broadcast work and find that the Matrox works very well with my kind of workflow. Monitoring is critical and since we have to deal with 3rd. party solutions, Matrox was my pick dating way back to 2006. Sure I've had frustrations with it, but I've made far more money off Matrox than frustration.
       Here's my nearly crash-free setup:
    Gigabyte GZ-X58A-OC moboard
Intel 990X (only overclocking to 4.0)
    24Gb of Kingston HyperX Ram
    GTX580 Graphics Card
    Matrox MXO2-LE w/Max
Crucial 240Gb Sata III drive (the one that has a nearly perfect score on Newegg's site)
    2 x 2Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
    2 x 1Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
Win 7 Ultimatte (it's a high-end version of Windows that's great for keying!)
    CS5.5 Suite
    Boris Red 5
    Boris Continuum Complete 8
Trapcode Shine, Form, 3d Stroke, Starglow, and Particular
    Optical Flares by Video CoPilot
The reason I list all of that software, is that it all seems to get along together, including with Matrox! So, I can't say I highly endorse Matrox because I've never tried Black Magic or running an external monitor off of my video card.
I use After Effects with all sorts of plug ins and rarely have crashes. If I put in a long day I'll have the usual crashes here and there (mainly with PremierePro), but nothing that has required evan a soft reboot of the computer.
My frustration with Matrox is mainly the delay that often comes with Adobe coming out with a new release and Matrox taking 2 or 3 months to catch up, though when Adobe went from 5 to 5.5, there was no delay at all.
I think that a lot of the people who trash Matrox probably haven't used a Matrox product in years. But before you listen to me, I must confess that I was an early adopter (and advocate) of SSDs and even today, many people on this forum think they're still a waste of money!
I'll close by simply saying that I've not left Matrox after 5+ years, but keep in mind I haven't had the bad experiences that so many others seem to have had, but again, perhaps they had those bad experiences long ago.

  • Problems installing iTunes for windows

    Hi,
Just bought a lovely 30Gb black ipod video...however i cannot seem to install iTunes. The route of the issue seems to be that I have Sonic Record Now cd burning software installed already on my machine (straight from the shop).
When uploading for the first time using both the disc and from apple.com I got an error messages that said I had a conflict within the registry, something to do with my previously installed CD burning software - please re-install iTunes. When i removed iTunes my CD drive disappears and i have to do a system restore.
I have tried this a few times with no success - so decided to try and remove the Sonic Record Now programme...when i used the disc after this I just got a standard error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and has to close"....
I have not yet managed to download from apple.com again because i don't have internet at home...but I would imagine that i'll simply get the second error message again as above - i am really getting frustrated.
I gather its not an isolated problem - and have seen a few solutions but all of these seem to depend on a successful download of iTunes from apple.com - something that i can't yet do because of the registry conflict.
    any ideas?
    thanks
    Mike.

  • Problems after Jelly Bean upgrade

I upgraded to Jelly Bean when it came available and immediately started noticing problems.  The phone became sluggish in general but most notably the keyboard lagged to the point where texting became problematic.  I was unable to use the gallery app - it would open but pictures either wouldn't load or I couldn't scroll through them.  The camera app also wouldn't scroll through my pictures.  The web browser was sluggish even on a strong wi-fi connection.  I did a factory reset twice and lost a ton of information in the process, in hopes the reset would clear things up.  I ended up going to the store and the rep said he would have a new phone overnighted - which by the way, they gave me a used, sorry, a "certified like-new replacement" phone, not a new one.
Now that I have my replacement I'm reluctant to upgrade this one to Jelly Bean if I'm going to continue having problems.  Are/were these just an isolated problem, perhaps something in the phone itself and not the software, or are these widespread issues that will hopefully be addressed?  I've read on forums all over that people are complaining of battery drain but I didn't have that issue, just the sluggishness and the inability to access my pics.

Jbthompson, I know it can be upsetting when an update that should improve your phone's functionality causes it to have problems. I haven't seen the issues you experienced on most Galaxy S III's. Like TheGuyUpNorth stated, most issues are resolved with a factory reset. Do you know if any of your applications were automatically re-installed after the reset? Sometimes the cause of slowness can be related to applications that were compatible with the old OS no longer being compatible with the new one, or conflicting with each other. If you reset and then the same applications are re-installed, then the problem may arise again. Have you completed the JB update on your Galaxy S III replacement yet? Even if you defer or reject the software update, it may come again at a later date. You want to make sure you are ready to complete the update because if it alerts you in the middle of the night and you don't respond, it may go thru. If the battery isn't charged fully that could cause a problem with the update completing. Please let us know if you have any problems with the replacement and we'll be happy to help.

  • Eax problems in ga

I haven't been able to find quite this problem listed, although due to the conditions im sure it cant be isolated.
A few years ago i had an Audigy card and it was great, except when you enabled eax in games. This is not restricted to any one game, its happened on every single one i've tried. When eax was enabled, any in-game music stopped and the sound became distant and very echoy. I wasnt too worried about this at the time since it was a second hand card and just assumed it was an isolated problem.
Recently i bought an Audigy 2 zs, and unfortunatly the exact same problem is still there. Add to that now i have a 5. system, as opposed to a 2. system with the audigy, and that has been having some major problems as well. Quite often no sound will come through at all unless i set the speaker settings to 2/2. system. I have been unable to determine what is causing this, and i have the most recent drivers so thats not it.
I doubt very much its hardware conflicts, as almost every part of my computer has been upgraded since i had the first audigy.
EAX is one of the big selling points of the creative cards, it'd be nice if i could have it working so any help would be appreciated.

Yes its recognised as a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM). All the supplied applications work, although playcenter and speaker settings have frozen a few times and wouldnt start again till i rebooted. The only audio options in the game that effect it are turning on eax. I assume the games do support this, otherwise they wouldnt have the option to turn eax on. Some of them only had that option and the volume able to be changed. Currently the card is sitting in the 4th slot, with nothing in the 5th, so it shouldnt be having any conflicts that way. I just find it really strange that its the exact same problem i had with my first audigy.

Thanks for your confirmation on no prob found in config level 1st..:P..as to save us a lot of time in isolating problem at this level.
What we can notice is seems the data port connection is fail to open  for server back to client....for our general sense..... the flow expected should be:
    TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:6370
    TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 6379 [on demand generated between server/client]
but we can only see session B fail  to setup when client side access VIP site on CSS..even we try to put the most standard case as below
    TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:21
    TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 20
we still unable to make the Active mode FTP access work either...hence we got no idea on how CSS handle FTP access when it involve services over multiple tcp ports..
and from CSS xlate view...the problem is we can only see what NAT IP that used in CSS connect to client...but no way to confirm for which port for VIP using outgoing to client. neither it is dropped by CSS..nor it is never setup from VIP to Client side.

  • Home hub problems

hey, wondering if somebody could help me out, in our household we have an infinity broadband package, just a basic one, i'm not the bill payer so can't say exactly which package it is, i know it is not any of the unlimited ones, anyway, to my problem:
for about 3 weeks now, i have noticed issues with my wireless connection to the hub, both on my decktop and my iphone, when i run a speed test using both the BT speed test tool, and several of the well known online speed tests, i'm getting results of less than 1MB/s download speed, and barely 0.15MB/s upload speed, yet with a hardline, download speed shows at around 60MB/s and upload around 3MB/s, couple that with the wireless connection repeatedly and constantly dropping out, both with the desktop and my phone, previously via wireless, i was getting download speeds of around 10MB/s and upload of up to 2MB/s using the various speed tests, so just curious to know if there are any known issues affecting wireless signals from the hubs at the moment, or if this is an isolated problem that would need to looked at by a technician, thanks.

It is possible interference that is causing your low speeds on wireless.
Try a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This often sorts out configuration problems.
After you have done that download, install and run inSSider. It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel.

  • And what exactly is problem 1008?

I am having very similar issues as the many (apparently VERY many) folks frustrated by error 5002. I am having trouble with pre-orders, getting error message 1008.
I have the latest version of iTunes. Everything on the computer is fully updated.
Not to get too "511" with my music preferences, but by way of sharing my problem's "context":
I was able to pre-order a George Michael album - that had no advance single available - with no problem. However, while trying to pre-order Mariah Carey and Madonna's upcoming releases - both of which have free, advance singles that purchasers receive at the time of pre-order - I get error message 1008. Coincidence? Conspiracy? I have no idea. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing here. Unable to download full albums.
The error message I get is:
"An unknown error occurred (1008). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
Well, I have been trying for 3 days, without any luck.
If I use song credits I can download individual songs. Trying to complete an album afterwards fails. Gathering from the above comments, the problem seems to go away once all credits have been used. However, I am not willing to try that out, just to see if it works. I'd like to spend my credits a little more discriminately.
Where are the pros? Do they have any answers. Methinks, this is not an isolated problem.

  • Problem Initializing Narration Recorder?

    Hi All!
I found an un-resolved and locked thread on this subject and still didn't find an answer. Using an external audio interface to try slideshow recording.
Note: upgrading to Keynote 08 version 4.0.3 didn't help.
Curious if I am the only one with this issue left in the world.
    Thanks,
    Gabster

    Thanks Ron!
I am getting the error "Keynote had a problem trying to initialize the narration recorder." when trying to click the Record button on the Slideshow Recording function in Keynote.
I found this issue already discussed in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5101233
but unfortunately with no solving solution.

Please be more specific: What is the problem you are experiencing?
IF I can presume that you want to use an external audio interface as the input source for making a narration recording, you should have no problem doing so if you have selected this device in the System Preferences > Sound > Input menu.
Yes, I did that. If in-built mic is choosen it works. If the external's interface input is used, I am getting the error.
If this doesn't solve your problem, please describe in detail:
    1) what you want to accomplish
I am trying to use my an external microphone via the external audio interface to have a recorded voice over my slideshow.
    2) what you have tried to do
I tried rebooting, upgraded Keynote with the latest upgrade available from Apple.
    3) what were the results
Unfortunately the same. If using the in-built mic, it works, if the interface's input, I receive the error (while clicking on Record).
    4) what went wrong or is not working to your satisfaction
The whole thing. I want to use the external mic since that has a way better quality.
Note that I am successfully the audio interface with no problem with other audio software on the same machine.
It seems like it is an isolated problem to Keynote 08.
    Good luck
    Thanks for help!

  • Over the air update problems?

Hi there. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Twice now, when I've tried to update an app over the air (rather than through iTunes) my touch freezes up, forcing me to put it into recovery mode and restore the whole thing (VERY frustrating). Is this a common bug? Should I just avoid OTA updates entirely, or are these isolated problems?
    Thanks!
    Aaron

I've installed one application on my iPod touch via the App store and did not have an issue with it. I've updated two applications through the App store without issue as well. If it is an issue I may not have done enough OTA installations to come across it, or it might be an isolated incident with your iPod. Have you updated to 2.0.2 on the iPod? That update seemed to clear up a few Wi Fi issues I was experiencing.
