Issue Exporting TIFF Files in Lightroom 3

When exporting files from Lightroom in a TIFF Format Lightroom is applying specific dimensions to my photos. How do I make this stop so my files maintain the original image size?
For example.
Original Photo - 4256 x 2832, 10.8MB .NEF File shot on D700
Exported using TIFF Format, No Compression, Pro Photo RGB Colour Space and 16 bit depth. No changes to any part of the original file.
New exported file - 640 x 426, 1.6MB .TIF File
Normally I would expect a 16bit TIF export to become a larger file (more MB) yet maintain the original 4256 x 2832 image size.
This issue is happening for all my images. How can I solve this?

• Quality Issue Exporting RAW files in Lightroom 3

I have LR 3.6 and am experiencing quality degridation and tone alterations when exporting an edited RAW file to any folder in LR3 and then viewing the export in its new location in LR3. I am on a MAC and when I view the export in the file FINDER window, I see the image I expect to see in the LR viewer, all edits in tact!. But when viewed in lr it looks horrible! It is granular, the tone is altered and the color is over saturated. This seems to only happen with RAW files, exported to any format (Jpeg, Tiff, PSD, DNG etc) and/or color space (sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB). VERY FRUSTRATING.!!  Anyone found a solution to this problem?
Edited RAW Image :                                                                                                              Exported as JPG / sRGB:
Thanx!

Correct. I am importing the exported photo back into LR for viewing as part of my workflow. It moves from a "Work in progess Fiie" to a "Processed Image File". And this new import into LR looks incorrect? Keep in mind I am editing a RAW image and then converting it to JPEG, TIFF or other universal format. Usually JPEG. But this problem occurs regardless of the format I choose. However, viewing it in the MAC file folder it looks fine. That however does not help me if I want to set up a print job or slide show through Lightroom. Any thoughts....

• Major problem: I can not export NEF files from Lightroom

This is just plain weird: I can't export NEF files from Lightroom 2. I can export any other file format, but not NEF. With Lightroom 1 this was no problem.
It makes no difference whether I choose the export command with my mouse, via the menu or with a key stroke - nothing happens.
Lightroom version 2.0
Camera Raw version 4.5.0.175
Camera Nikon D3
Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1
MacOsX version 10.5.4
I've called Adobe, and they simply don't know. I have reinstalled Lightroom 2 with no succes. Restarting, repairing permissions, nothing helps.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Marsel, your language is confusing, First, you cannot 'export' NEFs to PS. You can send a copy there from within LR as a tif or psd.
Exporting per se takes place through the Library module under the Export function. When Nef's are exported by choosing 'original' in the export dialogue, the file is the 'original' NEF accompanied by an XMP. That Nef, if opened directly in PS from your file system should appear in the Camera Raw window, where you can make whatever new edits on it you want or change the original adjustments you made in LR. Then, once you open that file in PS from the Camera Raw window, any further work you do will be pixel editing. That work can then be saved in a number of formats, but not as a NEF.
Transferring files to PS from LR for editing is another matter. That sends a copy of the original NEF, including LR adjustments to PS as either a Tiff or a PSD (your choice via the dropdown). After you have edited that Tiff or PSD in PS and hit save, it will send a copy back to LR as a Tiff or PSD, which will appear next to the original nef.
These procedures work perfectly on both my windows 32 and 64 bit machines with LR2 and 2.1. with all my NEFs from several camera models.
When you say 'export' do you really mean sending a copy to PS or do you mean 'Export' as LR defines that term?

• LR 2.5 won't export TIFF files with LZW or ZIP compression??

I've just updated to LR2.5 and CR5.5, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 on an AMD x2 64 bit pc.
LR worked fine until 2.4 came along and hijacked all my auto play settings. Adobe finally releases 2.5 and now I find if I export TIFF files from a Nikon D700 NEF all I get is a black box the same size as the image??? If I turn LZW or ZIP compression off and export uncompressed the export works again. JPEG also exports ok.
Anyone else getting this? Have you found out what's causing it?
James.

Thanks for the feedback Jao,
I just tried across the whole range of TIFF options and the only files that don't give me a black file are 8bit and 16 bit with no compression. LZW and ZIP both stuff up
Might try a complete uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes things. These sorts of things only happen when you are in a rush to get lots of work done!

• Acrobat 8 - Exporting TIFF files - antialiased text?

When I export a PDF file as a 300 dpi CMYK TIFF file using Acrobat 8, the text is not antialiased (it's jagged). Is there any way to set it to antialias the text?

• Can't import TIFF files to Lightroom

I shot in TIFF + JPEG last night but when I try to import to Lightroom, it doesn't give me a preview of the photos and then says it can't import them. Even if it doesn't like TIFF (which would be strange to me), if they saved in JPEG why can't it find those files?

Ah yes, good point. Then I can sort by file type and move straight onto the hard drive. Sorry should have thought of that myself. Just tried again. I've realised I said TIFF when I meant RAW (.CR2 files). Lightroom says it won't take them and suggests getting a newer version. Will that work?

• Lightroom export - original file with Lightroom modification data

Hello, hello!
I have imported a folder of, for arguments sake, some JPEGs, TIFFS, and DND photos into Lightroom, leaving the files in place, and just linking them to the Lightroom Catalogue's Library. I have then made a whole load of 'modifications' to the photos in Lightroom (the data for these modifications is stored in the Lightroom Catalogue file, right?).
Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file? Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original? Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
Thanks a lot! :-))

Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file?
Yes, but you should not export. Just hit Ctrl/Cmd+S to Save Metadata. the metadata will be embedded into the files. Note that the actual image will not be altered. That is, if you view the jpeg in an external viewer you will not see the adjustments made in Lightroom. Only Adobe products can interpred those.
Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original?
Yes.
Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
Yes. When you open in Photoshop and it's a non-RAW file (e.g. JPEG or TIFF), there's an option somewhere in Camera RAW to be used for opening non-RAWs. The point is, those have to pass through Camera RAW, rather than opened directly in Photoshop, for metadata to be interpreted properly.

• Exporting RAW files to PS5 from Lightroom

when exporting RAW files from lightroom 3, version 3.6, to photoshop 5, (version 12.04, ACR 6.6), raw files go directly to editor, not camera raw editor. This began only after I went from trial version to full version, before it went to RAW editor.  If loading directly into PS RAW files do go to RAW editor as they should, but not from LIghtroom.
Please advise

The way it is working now is the way it is supposed to.  I don't know why ACR was opening before.  You do your adjustments in Lightroom, and when you send the image to Photoshop ACR is used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments.  If you want to be able to go back to ACR then you need to open the image as a smart object.

• Working with .tiff files

I am a new Lr user and have just imported a medium-format scan (as a .tiff file) into Lightroom. After cropping one image from the .tiff file, processing it and then exporting the image I am unable to retrieve the other 5 images from my .tiff file. I have tried to re-import it, but receive the message that the image is already in Catalogue. The only image that I can see in my Catalogue is the file which was cropped from the .tiff file and has already been processed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

In that case you are best to select that image and from the top menu click Photo >> Create Virtual Copy. That will become copy 1 - your cropped version. Now select your original and go to Develop. Click on the history tab in the left hand panel and click on the bottom item in the list which will return you to your imported state. That’s the beauty of Lightroom; it is totally non-destructive and you can go back to any history step and create any number of virtual copies without duplicating the original on your hard drive.
If you don’t wish to keep a virtual copy of your first crop (because you have exported it) simply go back to import date on your original.

• Exporting tiff to jpeg - loss of light

Hello,
Since a couple of days when I export tiff files to jpeg the exported image looks darker. If I reimport it the histogram is evidently changed.
It looks like something messed up in preferences but I didn't make any changes (at least I didn't do it purposely).
I upgraded to the 4.4 version after this happened but nothing changed.
What can I do?
Thanks for your help,
Andrea

I don’t see much difference in the side-by-side thumbnails.  The JPG’s histogram (right one) has a little more black bunched up on the lefthand end and the histogram is vertically scaled to make that higher peak fit so the entire rest of the histogram is shorter, but the entire JPG’s histogram is not shifted left (toward the dark end) very much at all.  Specifically there is a red peak in between the f/11 and 5.0sec indications on both and the green peak is above the 10mm in both cases.  Converting to sRGB will clip things to fit within the sRGB gamut so some difference is expected, I’m just not seeing very much.  Are you seeing more of a difference in Finder/Preview than with the re-imported JPG in LR?
You could try exporting your TIF as a ProPhotoRGB JPG and re-import that to compare histograms, since LR’s internal workspace is a wide colorspace like ProPhotoRGB is.
If you think you have accidentally changed something in your LR preferences, you can exit LR and delete the preferences file (or move it somewhere) then restart LR and let it rebuild a new one.  Before doing this you might want to review your LR preferences in case there’s something important that needs set back.

• TIFF file import

I'm running a trial version of Lightroom. A fresh import of image files from my hard drive rejects 2,022 TIFF files and fails to import them. I have no problem importing the same files into Aperture. Can someone suggest how I can get these TIFF files into Lightroom? Thanks.

>I can change their color profile to RGB pretty easily (and tediously) with Apple's ColorSync Utility if it proves necessary to get them into Lightroom.
Since you are on Mac OS X, You should be able to create an automator applet that does this all automatically for you. You can also set up a droplet with Photoshop that will do it. Might save a lot of time. It's unfortunate that Lightroom doesn't support single channel tiffs directly though. They're fairly common in legacy archives such as yours.

• Issues with Exporting files using Lightroom 5

I bought Lightroom 5 for Mac a couple of months ago and have been using it without any issues, then out of the blue I ran into export problems. Sometimes the exported images wouldn’t have the sharpness adjustments, sometimes it wouldn’t have the noise adjustments, sometimes the saturation or vibrancy, and then sometimes a combination of the above. I know there’s a known issue that effects noise on export if you export on files sizes less than 1/3 of the original size, but mine have always been exported at full size with image quality 70, exporting as jpeg.
I installed the latest update and that didn’t help. I uninstalled the software and that didn’t help either. I then uninstalled everything completely (including the library) by searching both lightroom and adobe in finder > system files> are included and deleted everything I could find pertaining to adobe lightroom (I didn’t delete everything adobe as I have other adobe products). This didn’t help either. What is really bizarre is that I tried restoring my Mac back to a time when Lightroom worked fine, and this didn't solve the issue, and I've also tried wiping the hard drive and just installing lightroom and this didn't work. This really baffled me.
What I have also found with Lightroom (and I'm sure it's all somehow linked) is that if I'm working on a file, and either close LR down and re-open it, or go to another file and then back to the one I was working on, initially the image has lost it's sharpening again, but if I click on the sharpen slider (without moving it) the sharpening comes back.
So has anyone any ideas on what my issues are and how to fix them. I’ve tried the advice on here too http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/manually-remove-lightroom.html.
My workaround at the minute is to use full screen view when I've completed my adjustments and take a hi-res screen shot, but the problem is that the saved images are only approx 1600 x 1000 pixels, which is fine for viewing on my Macbook pro but not good if I want to zoome etc.

As I said in my first paragraph I don't think it's the known issue...

Sounds like you have a different problem - if it's a bug, be sure to report it:

• Issues exporting versions from tiff files

I upgraded to Aperture 3 [3.0.2] running on 10.6. Aperture works fine, except when trying to export a version of a tiff file [these are 8 bit 200mb scans]. Exporting a master from a tiff file works, exporting versions from RAW files work, but Aperture "hangs" when trying to export a version of a tiff file. I do have access to the tiff versions when using the media browser in other applications (Pages, iWeb etc.).
So far I tried all repair options [pressing cmd/ctrl while starting up] and i tried importing and than exporting a tiff file under Ap3, assuming something went wrong while updating from Ap2 to Ap3. Same results.
???

can you provide your export settings. I tried it and it works...but my tifs are not 200mb.

• Issues exporting out of lightroom 4

I've recently encounterd a problem while trying to export images out of Lightroom 4.  I keep getting an error messge "File canot be written."  This is happening whether I'm exporting a Jpeg or a raw file.   Cannot figure what has happend but it's doing it with old and new files, so it's not an issue of a corrupted file.  Anyone have any experience with this particular issue?
Dan

The message tends to indicate an issue with the destination drive. Have you checked there's adequate free space? Have you checked write permissions? Have you tried alternative destinations for the exports?

oh and if you use a creative cloud version of Lightroom it could also be that the logon to the cloud is messed up. Logging out and logging back in from preferences in the creative cloud app will fix that. Due to the release of Lightroom CC it appears that adobe's servers have been overwhelmed a bit And many people have strange problems that are solved by logging out and back in.
