Issue monitoring SQL instance
We are running SCOM 2012 R2 and are monitoring several SQL 2012 servers.
There is one I am having difficulty monitoring. Within the event logs I am constantly getting:
Management Group: SCOM Script GetSQL2012DBFileGroupFreeSpace.vbs : Cannot login to database [servername][mssqlserver:content_portal]
For all the SQL databases that are on the server.
I am using a dedicated Action Account that is a sysadmin on the SQL instance, a local admin on the server and I have configured the Default action profile to use the dedicated action account for that server.
I have also ran the following command:
USE [master]
GO
/****** Add a login in SQL Server for the service SID of System Center Advisor HealthService ******/
CREATE LOGIN [NT SERVICE\HealthService] FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master], DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[us_english]
GO
/****** Add the HealthService Service SID login to the sysadmin server role ******/
ALTER SERVER ROLE [sysadmin] ADD MEMBER [NT SERVICE\HealthService]
GO
Restarted the Microsoft Monitoring Agent several times but still the cannot login to database error.
The above setup works fine for the other two SQL 2012 servers we are monitoring.
Am I missing something?
www.techielass.com
have a read at the below
http://www.scomgod.com/?p=258
Extract of the needed permissions is as below
For Low Privilege environments:
o I add the Run As account or Action Account to:
o Local Performance Monitor Users Group
o Local EvenLogReaders Group
o Add Log On Locally permission
o Configure the SQL Instance for monitoring
Details and Permission required are stated in Low Privilege Environment monitoring in the MP Guide
Note from the MP Guide:
“By default, all discoveries, monitors, and tasks defined in the SQL Server management packs default to using the accounts defined in the “Default Action Account” Run As profile. If the default action account for a given system does not have the necessary permissions
to discover or monitor the instance of SQL Server, then those systems can be bound to more specific credentials in the SQL Server Run As profiles, which do have access.”

Issue after patching after SQL instance with SP3
Hi All,
I have recently patched one of 2008 SQL instance in my environment with SP3 and after applying the patch I can see that the version got changed to 10.0.5500, but when checked summary logs I'm seeing below message. Could some one please let me know what are
the steps to be followed to get this issues fixed.
I have checked few things from my end and was able to see that uninstalling the sp3 which is applied should fix this and roll it back to its previous version which was sp2, but what I'm concerned is the missing .msi file. How can i fix this missing

In terms of SQL Instance, SQL LocalDB is installed and working properly. SQL Server 2012 is also installed and working properly.Hi,
It is a SDK version issue. I suggest you could remove all azure sdk form your PC and use WPI to install the latest version again.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

I am trying to install WSUS role on Windows Server 2012 R2 using dedicated SQL Instance with static port on remote SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU7 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

Please let me know if anyone has experienced this issue. We were trying to install WSUS role on Windows Server 2012 R2 using dedicated SQL Instance with static port on remote SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU7 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
It verifies the connection and then throws the error:

The MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
Service: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID
Domain and account: NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID
This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."
User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

Unable to install MBAM 2.5 with SCCM integration on named SQL instance
Hi,
in production i am installing MBAM 2.5 with SCCM integration but during the installation it asks for the SCCM reporting services point and which it is unable to recognize.
whereas in my lab environment i have default SQL instance which has reporting installed, in that case it works fine.
can someone let me know why the issue is coming?
in the event log the issue is : Description = "user domain\username is not able to get the lock at this time.Error:0x40480732"For the integration part, You need to install the MBAM SCCM Integration feature on SCCM server. For compliance reporting in integration, MBAM uses the Reporting service point for SCCM.
When installing the SCCM integration feature, you need to provide the name of the reporting Server where Reporting Service point role is installed for SCCM. But it does not provides any option for the instance but for the Server only. We have two instances
for SQL. One for CAS and other for Primary site. We need to run the installer on CAS and hence need to connect to the SQL instance for CAS.
We have also tried with the powershell commands but it is not working either.
Is there any way to install MBAM integration feature on a SQL instance. As far as I know, it automatically picks the instance but not happening for me.

I have a SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 environment with SCOM monitoring installed.
I also do have 4 secondary sites installed below my primary. The secondaries are using SQL 2012 Express version default deployed using the secondary site installation.
My SCOM monitoring is generating tickets with the following message:
The Average Wait Time of SQL instance "CONFIGMGRSEC" on computer "<SEC_SITE_SERVER>" is too high
How can i solve this ? Or do I need to ignore this ?Never ignore messages, but tune them.
In this specific case you might want to take a look at this:

Serious UI issues in SQL Developer 4.0 for Mac
I've encountered some serious UI issues in SQL Developer 4.0 for Mac (4.0.0.13) that impact it up to the point where it becomes unusable.
If the database and tables are expanded in the "Connections" view, sometimes a node in the tree seems to become sticky. Whenever you scroll the up or down, it will immediately scroll back to make the old selection visible again. If you want to work with an item that's outside the current view (e.g. to collapse the "Tables" node), you can no longer use it. SQL Developer needs to be restarted.
If the context menu is opened (ctrl click), it appears in the wrong place. It's too far to the right and bottom. If you then move the mouse pointer towards the menu, a rectangle appears and follows the mouse pointer as if you had initiated a drag and drop operation.
If the "Data" tab of a table is selected and if a cell is clicked to edit the cell value, the text cursor is drawn in the wrong position. It can be off by more than one character and it is often drawn in the middle of a character instead of between two characters. It's hardly possible to edit the cell value as you cannot tell for sure where insertions and deletions will happen. You basically need to copy the value into a separate editor, edit it there and copy it back.
The scrolling in the "Data" tab of a table is a pain. For no obvious reason, it first scrolls downwards a few rows and then jumps to the top (at least using a Magic Mouse). If all rows have been loaded, this problem seems to disappear. But generally, the scrolling distance is far too short. With a long finger swipe, one would expect to scroll the contents by several pages. However, it only scrolls about half a page. For shorter swipes, it's similar. It sometimes only scrolls by a few pixels.
Am I the only one to experience these severe problems? Or is the Mac version not as mature as the Windows version yet?In terms of diagnosis, perhaps not -- probably very time-consuming to debug. I did find some unpublished bugs against dual monitor use ...
Bug 13727841 - FORUM: 64BIT WIN7 SOME DIALOGS SHOW ON DISPLAY 1 WHEN SQLDEV ON DISPLAY 2
Bug 18504928 - NEW CONSTRAINT UI MENU IN TABLE DIALOG AT WRONG LOCATION ON DUAL MONITOR
The first turned out to be an issue in the 64-bit Java AWT libraries, not the 32-bit libraries, and specifically for Windows 7 as opposed to, say XP, but this was all quite a bit in the past and was fixed for 4.0. The second one (on 64-bit Linux), however, just came in yesterday, so you can wait to see if a fix for that also covers your situation or, if you are able, pursue it directly with Oracle Support. -

I am trying connect to a SQL instance for our CRM program and I am receiving To Connect to this Server you must use SQL Management Studio or SQL Server Management
This is a Brand new Server 2012 that is running our CRM product and it is trying to connect to a Server 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 instance (10.50.4000)
I have seen this in the past where it needed the 2005 backwards compatibility components installed but those are not supported on 2012 server and this is not a 2005 SQL instance.
I am trying to install the Shared Management Objects for SQL Server 2008 but it tells me I need to install the CLR types, which I did install. But it continues to tell me to install the CLR types.
Has anyone ran into any issues like this? (this happens trying to connect to multiple SQL Servers from this new 2012 Server)
Thanks!
-MaxHello,
Which version and edition of the SQL Server instance did you installed on the new server machine? If you install SQL Server 2012 Express edition, you can try to install SQL Server Management Studio 2012 from
this link.
You can connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 or earily verions with SSMS 2012.
What's more, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects Collection requires Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0, Microsoft SQL Server Native Client, and Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types. You can try to download and install
SQL Serve 2008 Feature Pack
which contains packages above.

Can I use the SCCM SQL Instance license to install DPM on a different machine.
Hello,
We have an instance of SCCM with the included SQL Server instance and I wanted to install DPM and link it to the same Db instance that we got with SCCM? Is the SQL Server licensed for all System Center products? It's not really a matter of licensing in this case. The SQL server installation is not "Included with" Configuration Manager as a Primary or Central Administration site requires a full version of SQL Server. This link can give you a bit more info
on that
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSQLDBconfig
Installing DPM and SCCM on the same SQL instance is possible, however, depending on how many clients you plan on supporting you may run into performance issues. To learn more about SQL server with System Center, there is a good guide here:http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/SQL-Server-guide-for-8584c403
Thank you very much, that was the kind of info I was looking for. -

What is a good way to monitor AQ instances? I was looking at using GV$AQ and/or
V$AQ views;
Worry with GV$AQ is that it does cross instance traffic and may contribute to
interconnect traffic;
Ran a trace on V$AQ and it does not appear to get it's stuff from
the SGA, but does runs queries on the queue tables themselves. Based on the
sql traces, it looks like these might get expensive. (there are full table scans in
the plans)
Any opinions? I am in a 9.2.0.7 version, 4 node environment with one queue with affinity to each rac node.

The passive node should not be shared by any other SQL instance.
Dears,
the customer has SQL cluster with multiple instance for many technology. Can I install new instance to host Lync backend database or not ???
I found in the below URL
"SQL Clustering support is for an active/passive configuration. For performance reasons, the passive node should not be shared by any other SQL instance."
I want to understand Why Lync 2013 the backend SQL passive node should not be shared by any other SQL instance. whish is mean that I can not install SQL new instance to host LYNC backend on the current my SQL cluster which is work with multiple instance
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398990.aspx
Amr NassarHi Amr,
Yes you can install a new instance on your cluster to host the Lync back end database. I believe the statement about not sharing the passive node with any other SQL instance refers to a SQL instance outside of the A/P cluster. (Basically the passive node
should be purely that and able to handle the load in the event it becomes the active node without anything else hindering it)
Providing your SQL cluster is able to handle the load Lync places on it along with everything else you should not have any issues.

Sql instance detected even I uninstalled sql 2008 express
I am using SqlDataSourceEnumerator.Instance.GetDataSources() to find if sql instance is installed in my machine or not.
I have installed sql server 2008 in my machine, then uninstalled completely, and it didn't show any error.
SqlDataSourceEnumerator.Instance.GetDataSources() works perfectly in windows 7 or xp to check if sql installed or not.
But when I install and then uninstall sql in windows 8 on a particular machine, the code all time returning the instance what was previously installed. But
other machines with windows 8 creating no problem.
I've checked registry as well as programfiles. Sql is nowhere.
When I reinstall sql it is installing with no error also.
So how SqlDataSourceEnumerator getting instance in windows 8?
If SqlDataSourceEnumerator is not reliable to check if sql installed or not, then how can I detect that by c#.
Mind it I need a procedure for both 64 and 32 bit machine though I'm using wow6432 installer.Hi souvik sett,
Question: So does this method not fetch instance over network in xp?
SqlDataSourceEnumerator Class provides a mechanism for enumerating all available instances of SQL Server within the local network. It is supported in all versions of .NET Framework, and Windows XP platform is also supported in .NET Framework. So this is not
a platform issue with Windows XP.
SQL Server provides information for the SqlDataSourceEnumerator through the use of an external Windows service named SQL Browser. This service is enabled by default, but administrators may turn it off or disable it, making the server instance invisible to
this class. So please make sure that SQL Server Browser Service is enabled on your Windows XP platform. For more information about SQL Server Browser Service, please refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181087(v=sql.105).aspx
To communicate with the SQL Server Browser service on a server behind a firewall, we need to open UDP port 1434, in addition to the TCP port used by SQL Server (e.g., 1433). For more information about How to Configure a Firewall for SQL Server Access, please
refer to the following article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646023.aspx

Top Activity and Monitored SQL Executions
Hi,
We have some issues with our batch jobs and I bumped into an issue I've seen before.
I can see in Top Activity that there is a job running in my database and I can see the SQL through Top Activity page in GC. When I try to monitor the SQL "live" with Monitored SQL Executions I can't see any executions at all in the database.
If I go to the session browser in TOAD I can see the process (SID) as active and I can see the current statment (the same as in Top Activity)
So to summarize:
Why can't I see the SQL in Monitored SQL Executions?
Btw We run Oracle 11.2.0.2
