Issue with Excel .xlsm file

I wrote a program in Excel using VBA and embedding controls such as Spin Buttons and ComboBox, etc. The file was saved with extension .xlsm. I use Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS in a virtual machine under Mac OS. The Office version is Office 2010 but it
uses 32-bit code [Version: 14.0.6129.5000 (32-bit)]. The program runs the way I want both on my Desktop and on my Laptop (both Windows running as Virtual Machines).  I have sent this program to three of my colleagues who use stand-alone PC with Windows
OS. When they try to open the file, it throws a "Run-time Error '438' - Object doesn't support this property or method. When one goes to debug, the VBA is stuck inside the Workbook_Open () code on a line
     Worksheets("Mission").sbLN2Eff.visible = False
The spin button sbLN2Eff is visible in the worksheet, but it is not working for my colleagues. The object associated with the SpinButton seems to be missing for them. What is going on here?  I alone seem to have the ability to run the program while
all others are unable to run the program. One would think that the Office or Excel settings in my computer are somehow different than that of my colleagues. Has anyone encountered similar problems?

See https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3025036/en-us for a possible cause and a fix.

  • A serious issue with excel file read in ODI

    hi gurus,
    Issue with excel file read is that we can read only one file by setting the path from ODBC Data Source Administrator-->System DNS -->Select Work book
    what i want to read the dynamic path(Every time I cant go back and set the Work book to select the excel file..
    So i came up with a solution to write a Vbscript that convert the excel to csv my problem got solved for dynamic paths the script is as follow:
    Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments
    For I = 0 to objArgs.Count - 1
    FullName = objArgs(I)
    FileName = Left(objArgs(I), InstrRev(objArgs(I), ".") )
    Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.application")
    set objExcelBook = objExcel.Workbooks.Open(FullName)
    objExcel.application.visible=false
    objExcel.application.displayalerts=false
    objExcelBook.SaveAs FileName & "csv",23
    objExcel.Application.Quit
    objExcel.Quit
    Set objExcel = Nothing
    set objExcelBook = Nothing
    Next
    Now this script convert the xls file to csv with comma seprated values
    e.g in excel sheet if data is ABC XYZ PQR
    csv will come with ABC,XYZ,PQR
    here the delimiter is , i want the delimiter as pipe | who's ascii code is 124
    but if i change 23 with 124 its not working i getting the error cannot save as...
    can anyone tell me that what should be the correct code for pipe
    so that the output is ABC|XYZ|PQR
    AS WE CAN USE THE SCRIPTS IN TOOLS

    I dont have the answer for your question but i have different approach in handling multiple Excel File.
    Step 1. Copy a sample source Excel File and Call it Final.xls .
    Step 2. Map this Final.xls to DSN and in Topology call this Final.xls
    Step 3. Do the Reversing and Map and test the Interface . Once its done.
    Step 4. Create a Package and using a http://odiexperts.com/?p=1426 get the list of all the Excel File
    Step 5 . Using this http://odiexperts.com/?p=273 create a Loop to Read the Excel File name
    Step 6 . Copy using OdiFileCopy to Final.xls and run your interface .
    Step 7. Increment the Loop and copy your next File for Final and run the interface
    Step 8 . Finally you will be able to read all the Excel File .
    Step 9 . Delete the source file [ Optional ]
    Hope this helps.

  • Issue with length of file paths - Windows & C++ plugin

    Hello,
    I've got an issue that just popped up on my OCR plugin I've been working on that I suspect is related to the length of the filepath.
    I'm getting the following error that is being caught and logged when trying to open a file (filename changed for security purposes):
    Error Opening File: D:\aVeryLongFilePath.pdf
    Exception info: This file cannot be found.
    The entire string, including the D:\ part, is 266 characters long. I cut down the length of part of the path one by one and it was able to open and OCR the document when the length was 259 characters.
    I know there's a MAX_PATH variable in Windows and/or there's some kind of limitation for file length. Note that I can open the file in Acrobat using File->Open and run OCR on it individually using the built-in Recognize Text function, but if I try to Recognize Text for Multiple files and choose "Add Folders", the file in question doesn't show up in the list of files to be batch OCR'd (even though it is there). Interestingly, choosing "Add Files" from the Recognize Text->In Multiple Files does work. So Acrobat itself has at least some issues opening the file using some of it's features.
    Here's how I'm opening the document:
         string pn;               // assume this is initialized, I'm just putting this here to demonstrate what type it is
         pathName = pn;
         ASAtom pathType = ASAtomFromString("Cstring");
         asPathName = ASFileSysCreatePathName(ASGetDefaultFileSys(), pathType, pn.c_str(), NULL);
         pdDoc = PDDocOpen(asPathName, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, true);
    Is there a way around this problem?
    Thanks.

    Yes, you are hitting the MAX_PATH on certain versions of Windows.   The only workaround would be to see that the file is "a very long path" and then break up the pathname construction into multiple pieces (perhaps the containing directory and then the file itself).  The other option is don't use Cstring to construct, use the Unicode variant.

  • Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I am operating with CS4. Photoshop produces an error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

    Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I have operating with CS4. Photoshop produces and error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

    Assuming you mean 5D Mark III, Photoshop CS4 cannot directly open raw files from your camera.
    Generally speaking, Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras when they released a new major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS4 is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
    You can double check this yourself:
    First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
    Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    If you find your camera is supported by your version of Photoshop, you need to download the latest update for Camera Raw. There's more information on how to do that here:
    Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date
    If your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
    Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
    The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Issue with opening .PDF files after recalling from Symantec Enterprise Vault

    Good Morning,
    I am having issues with opening PDF files that have been recalled from Symantec Enterprise Vault and some of the files are anywhere from 3-4 years old.  Some files open, while others return the error: Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is not a supported file type or might have been damaged.  It is inconsistent as to which files it occurs with.  I am not ready to believe that I have that many corrupt files out there.  I am opening them on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 desktop. Adobe 10.1.7. I have already configured the registry setting for bValidateBytesBeforeHeader that I found in another article to no avail.
    The files are on a network share, but I also tried copying them to my local desktop and still received the error.
    I have seen other posts regarding this error, but do not see a definitive solution and am hoping that in recent days someone has come up with a solution.
    Thank You
    Brian Dougherty

    Not supported file type can (but not always) mean the PDF was created with an old enough version of Acrobat, that it isn't comaptible with reader X or XI.
    Might have been damaged is pretty cut and dried in its meaning and interpretation.
    There's a known issue with Mac OS and Safari Browser "breaking" PDFs as they download, but it's not so common for Windows. Since these are files you already had, it would be even less applicable.
    You can try downloading an older version of Reader to check if it's a compatibility issue, but you'd have to uninstall the latest to do it and it'd be a lot of bother if they still don't open. It would also mean they are "broken" and cannot be repaired, that I know of.

  • I am having an issue with excel opening a converted file

    After I have converted this file from a pdf file to a .xlsx it won't open in excel. Now what do I do? I over wrote what I have done thinking it will work. How can I get this to work?

    HI demonicangel,
    I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your converted file. Does Excel return an error when you try to open the file?
    But the PDF you converted was not overwritten in the conversion process--it remains intact where it was when you converted it. So, you should'nt have lost any work.
    Please let us know what happens when you try to open the file in Excel.
    Best,

  • Issue with Excel Attachement in BI 7.0

    Hi,
    I have developed a custom report to send an e-mail with excel attachment in BI 7.0. When we are trying to open the excel sheet attachment in the e-mail. I am getting a message warning message stating that<b> 'This file is not in a recognizable format'</b>. but if we click on ok button then everything looks fine i.e the data is displaying as expected.
    I have developed the same reports in SAP R/3 and SRM but I don't see any issues over there.
    Can any one help me on this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkat Bomma

    When the selection screen pops up choose the KEY only function on the TOOLS on the top right corner of the screen. Then you will be able to enter the values manually.
    Hope this helps.

  • PDFMaker issue with Excel

    I'm experiencing an issue with PDFMaker when converting an Excel 2003 document.  I have an image that is in the header of the Excel document.  When I print in Excel it looks fine, but when I covert it to PDF it is much smaller.  This seems to only happen when the Excel document is in "print to fit" mode.  Does anyone have a fix?

    Hi,
    Typically, "print to fit" scales content.
    Scaling an image at a value less than 100% will increase the image's effective resolution while reducing its size (x-y dimensions).
    If the image must be of the original dimensions then avoiding "print to fit" may be called for.
    Something worth a look over when output to PDF is from content having images.
    Go into Acrobat's Preferences.
    Select the Category "Convert to PDF".
    Scroll through the supported file formats.
    See it what you are using is listed. Select it. Often, there is a Edit button that can be used to configure the conversion to PDF.
    Such things as downsampling and compression for black/white - gray scale - color.
    Be well...

  • CAN AN EXCEL XLSM FILE READ FROM A CSV AND WRITE BACK TO THE SAME XLSM -VBA

    Hey Carlos- Here's the repost.
    Could an XLSM file read a line from a CSV file in "A1" and depending on what was in the first column in the XLSM, search the CSV file and find the indexed item in the second column or third? I've done it before with standard VLookup functions and it was cumbersome and very slow, and for some reason, everytime I would save the file it would take forever although the xls file was a single sheet.
    i've attacthed a sketch of what I'm talking about, because it's hard to explain and I think the sketch explains it better. Here it is, sorry if it is blurry, it looked fine before I posted:

    ok, use this version, I changed it a bit. To accommodate the issue with the single cell, I moved the main procedures to a function for a more efficient use.
    Sub xlsmCsvLookup()
        'have both your xlsm and your csv files open
        'in the xlsm file, select a range of cells to look up
        'run the script to search all selected cells and get the values from the csv file
        Dim csvDataRange As Range 'csv file data column
        Dim selRange As Range 'to hold selected cells
        Dim foundRange As Range
        'get the source range
        Set csvDataRange = Workbooks("Book2.csv").Sheets(1).Range("a:a") ' replace "Book2" with yourCSVfile.csv
        'check for selection, only one cell, ceck that cell and exit, otherwise loop thru selection
        If Selection.Count > 1 Then
            'loop thru all selected cells, ignore empty cells
            For Each selRange In Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants)
                findSelection selRange, csvDataRange
            Next
        Else
            findSelection ActiveCell, csvDataRange
        End If
        Set foundRange = Nothing
        Set selRange = Nothing
        Set csvDataRange = Nothing
    End Sub
    Function findSelection(selRange, csvDataRange)
            'try to find it in the csv file
            Set foundRange = csvDataRange.Find(selRange) 'if found, assign it to foundRange
            'if no match highligh cut
            If foundRange Is Nothing Then
                selRange.Interior.ColorIndex = 34
            Else
                'if found, get the value in next cell
                selRange.Offset(0, 1) = foundRange.Offset(0, 1)
            End If
    End Function

  • Problems with Excel xlsx files and Presentation Design 2011

    Hello,
    I just began using Presentation Design 2011 and have run into an issue and would really appreciate your help.
    I have very large files in Excel 2007 format (.xlsx) that I need to import into Presentation Design.  When I try to do so, it automatically opens the .xlsx file as a 97-2003 Excel file, and in hte process, I then lose a large portion of the data (the file is very large, and the space limitations in 97-2003 are not sufficient for all the data I have, so I receive a message about compatability indicating that the data goes beyond the space limit).
    I have tried looking online for a fix to this issue, and I cannot find it.  I just installed the service pack 2 patch 8 file, and this still does not work.
    Will someone please let me know what I need to download or do to be able to import the xlsx files and maintain them in that format?
    Thank you!
    Curtis

    Hi Curtis,
    In the older version of dashboard design 2011, xcelsius 2008, .xlsx(excel 2007) files are imported and converted automatically to excel 2003 format. So there are some compatiability issues with both versions and also size limitations. excel 2003 cannot have more than 256 columns. I doubt same is the case with new version.
    Inside the designer data is in excel 2003 format. So you cannot have data more than the limit and some formats. You should only be pulling in enough data to fill your components in dashboard and remove any unnessary information from the spreadsheet . Since dashboards are meant for summary data, importing very large excels files are not recommended.
    Hope it helps you.

  • Issue with Excel data-chains via SharePoint

    I'm having issues with a coulpe of Excel (2010) data-chains through SharePoint at my work. When i set up a chain it shows for instance [Sheet2.xlsx] and fetches data just fine. But when I close and re-open the sheets, the chain code is changed to the
    entire http-adress, such as "http://company.com/controlling/[Sheet2.xlsx], and gives a VALUE-error instead of fetching the data.
    Is my problem connected to Excel or Sharepoint? And what can i do to make the chains work?
    Thanks in advance, and please excuse if some of the mentioned terms are inaccurate. I use Excel in my native language (danish), but the Danish community in here is not very large :)

    Hi,
    Are you using some formula(Such as Vlookup) to link the Excel date which shored in the SharePoint?
    If it is, we may try to use the full URL in the formula. Here are some samples, we may refer to:

  • Issues with Excel for Mac

    Howdy.
    I am currently running excel on 10.5. The version i am using is 12.0(071130) .
    Its an intermittant issues whereby Excel will rnadomly crash when asked to copy and paste. My first instinct is to update but when i tried to download the installers for the 12.1 and the 12.9 updates , they won't install on my hard drive. I get an exclamation mark on my hard drive when going through the installer.
    I think the copy and paste issue can be sorted by the update, but how do i do the update needed.
    I tried running the microsoft updater through excel but it just hangs and hangs.
    Any ideas?

    I had a similar problem with the exclamation mark. I solved it by re-installing Office from the original disks and re-starting the computer. It seems that one of the main files must have been missing in the Microsoft Office 2008 folder. I now have 8 items in there after the update to 12.1.9.

  • Multiple issues with Creative Cloud File Syncing

    I'm have issues with syncing files on my mac to Adobe Creative Cloud. I don't seem to have issues syncing via drag and drop to my web browser. I keep getting this error while syncing via finder:
    I also have a fairly complex PSD with folders that i'm toggling on and off using Layer Comps. I don't see any difference when switching Layer Comps within Extract in the browser. I do see the changes when turning on and off the folders though.. What's the deal with that?
    Why does it take so long to render the PSD after I turn on a folder or switch layer comps? It takes about 30 seconds to re-render, which is crippling for our workflow.
    This would be an amazing tool for our developers if these 3 issues were resolved.

    Thanks for the information.
    Could you now send me some log files please..
    The log files can be found here:
    Mac: /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
    Windows: C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CoreSync\
    The logs have the date in the filename, like "CoreSync-2014-03-25.log". Please compress (zip) all the CoreSync-2014-MM-DD.log files and email them to me directly at [email protected]
