Issue with generating large pdf file using cfdocument tags in CF9

We are in the process of upgrading our code to use cf9 and the cfdocument tag (from the old cfx_pdf tags).  We have successfully gotten one piece of our code to work but the file size of the pdf that we are generating now is huge in comparison to what it was using the CFX_PDF tags. (I.E.  with the new code the file is 885 KB in comparison to the old code generating only a 11KB file). We are not embedding fonts so the Fontembed = "no" didn't work for us.  We do have all of our images as .jpgs but unfortunately due to the volume of images that we have we can not switch all these files into another format.  Is there is way to shrink or optimize the pdf file size that we are generating?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Issue with Opening a PDF file

    We have just completed an upgrade of one of our servers executing Reporting Services.   The upgrade was from 2005 to 2008.
    After we have rendered a report and have it saved in PDF format, we start having issues.
    If we try to open the PDF by double clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer, Adobe Reader starts, but sits unresponsive and consumes an excessive amount of CPU cycles.    It never completes the open and we have to kill the Adobe Reader process in Task Manager.
    If we start Adobe Reader, and then use the Menu to do FIle -> Open, the PDF file opens immediately.
    We have attempted both methods using several different versions of Adobe Reader.    The issue occurs on all versions prior to 9.3.
    Since we are a service organization, we are unable to force our clients to upgrade to a more current version of Adobe Reader without providing assurances that this will correct this issue.
    Has anyone else seen this type of issue with opening PDF files rendered by Reporting Services?   And if so, what is the cause and how did you correct it?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi there,
    Please find attached a word document which contains the error that comes up when I try to open the PDF file. This PDF was e-mailed to me from one of the Safety companies that I receive e-mails from on a regular basis. I believe I am running Windows XP and the version of Adobe is Adobe Reader X. I hope this is enough info for you.

  • Problems with reading a pdf-file using Safari/Adobe Acrobat Pro

    Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5. and Safari in Snow Leopard I open the pdf-file of  http://dare.uva.nl/document/505726 and small boxes appear in the text f.i. on page 70, 74, on the last page etc.
    I don't know why those small boxes appear only on my MacBook Pro with the installed software and others don't read a corrupt text. If I click in den pdf-file on the right side of the mouse and choose "open with Adobe Acrobat Pro" the pdf-file opens correctly (without small boxes)!

    As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
    HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
    While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
    Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
    On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
    This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.

  • Generate large swap file (Use qtparted to generate partition

    Desire to generate a 30GB swap file in Linux using the full capacity of a hard drive as swap.
    Can this be done with the arch0.5 install CD?
    I assume I must skip the auto feature to do so.  I do not know if the CD program will allow skipping the program install steps and just install lilo.
    Perhaps someone has done a similar thing?

    i3839;
    Thanks for the comments.
    The desired entry is not to hdd but to ram such that all operations take place in ram...no hdd used...no CD orDVD used (except tp start the ram install).
    While in ram, all video is improved when uncompressed video is entered (.vob for instance) and the result is higher quality and better resolution.
    The basic question is in reference to arch install CD and whether it can be utilized to generate a HDD with just swap (one or more partitions) .
    My experience with the arch CD indicates it doesn't like the install to skip any steps.  Perhaps I can try a partition install and then abort the rest.  I think it will allow three separate swap (type 82) partitions:  at the least one of 2GB.  Perhaps it is programmed however, to require a root and a boot as well as a swap.
    I suggest you read the previous post which describes the install to ram...called 'toram' in knoppix.  This doesn't use the hdd, just the dvd reader.  It can however utilize a hdd file entered in a dvd install....tohd.. and add the cheat code ...toram..
    The end result is a ram only OS which can utilize USB hotplug devices for entry and storage, turning them off when not in use.
    The present system here has 2.5GB of ram but it is not able to accept the DVD of 2GB when attempting ..toram.   The same ...toram..cheat code is available for the CD version which operates well in ram (only 680MB).  The use of swap to augment ram is recommended.
    Dvd versions have close to 5GB of programs in compressed form in the 2.1GB DVD media.
    I hope this post helps describe the need for the swap a little better.

  • How to generate a PDF output using batch file in 10G

    Hello,
    I am using .bat file to generate a report PDF output. I have done this many times in 6i but for 10G I am unable to do the same.
    Can someone please look at the syntax below and let me know where I am going wrong.
    I understand that reports are different for 6i and 10G specially .rep file but I am sure we should be able to generate a PDF file using 10G. Please let me know.
    Thanks
    IQ
    Contents of .bat file follow
    ECHO Opening parameter form. Please do not close this window.
    C:\
    FOR /F "tokens=1 " %%I IN ('time /t') DO (SET _TIME=%%I)
    FOR /F "tokens=2 " %%I IN ('date /t') DO (SET _DATE=%%I)
    SET EXP_DATE=%_DATE:~6,4%%_DATE:~0,2%%_DATE:~3,2%_%_TIME:~0,2%%_TIME:~3,2%

    RWCONVERTER REPORT=C:\Users\Documents\send_email.rep USERID=scott/tiger@ORCL1 ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE DESFORMAT=PDF DESTYPE=FILE
    DESNAME=C:\Users\\%FILENAME% PRINTJOB =NO

    Rwconverter is not used to run reports:
    rwconverter (Reports Converter) enables you to convert one or more report definitions or PL/SQL libraries from one storage format to another.
    I think you mean rwrun:
    rwrun (Reports Runtime) runs a report by starting its own in-process server (not to be confused with the default in-process Reports Server), which runs in the same JVM as the rwrun process.
    This bat file has to run on the server. There is no Reports installation on the client anymore.
    If you want to run a report from a client, you can make a bat file that calls the report url

  • How to generate a pdf file

    hi i want to generate a pdf file using a java program, i have a string of xml format i want read the string and get each node of the string then
    pass it to generate pdf.how to do this, the problem is if i want to read
    xml then i must use org.w3c.dom.Element, but for pdf generation i must use com.lowagie.text.Element , so how to solve this.
    please help.
    rafel

    Well, obviously XML and PDF are two very different kinds of format, and it's up to you how one is going to be mapped into the other. There are at least two PDF APIs available free, but it's not a trivial format to manage.
    It's impossible to give you any more advice with the limited information you've supplied.

    I tried generating a pdf over another word file (not

  • Create PDF file using PL SQL

    Hello All:
    I have an requirement of generating a PDF file using Oracle PL SQL program. Can anyone please let me know the procedure/code of doing this?
    Thanks,
    k Ramesh Gupta

    I have steps to generate Excel sheet output, apply appropriate content-type for PDF in the PL/SQL written below, to get the same in PDF. i suppose it should be application/pdf
    1. Create a custom DAD if required using Enterprise Manager Console of MidTier for HTTP Server or use Portal DAD itself to implement the solution.
    2. Create a new procedure (a webdb solution) to stream the HTML for the excel sheet report which will be downloaded.
    a. Login to Portal schema through SQL*Plus or the respective DAD based schema if custom DAD is created. (below example is created in custom DAD - 'scott').
    SQL>CREATE OR REPLACE
    PROCEDURE generateCsv
    as
    cursor p_emp is select * from PORTAL_DEMO.EMP;
    begin
    owa_util.mime_header( 'application/vnd.ms-excel', False ); -- Here change the content-type to PDF Format accordingly
    htp.print('Content-Disposition: attachment;filename="pvasista.csv"');
    owa_Util.Http_Header_Close;
    for v_emp_cur in p_emp
    LOOP
    htp.p (v_emp_cur.ename || ',' || v_emp_cur.deptno || chr(13));
    END LOOP;
    end;
    SQL> grant execute on generateCsv to public;
    For education purpose getting the report of employee and deptno of al employees from PORTAL_DEMO.EMP table. Implement the necessary query/ Business Logic accordingly.
    b. Now access http://midtier_host:port/pls/dad_name/generateCsv, will download a .csv based excel file report as shown in the screenshot below,
    3. Open the Portal Page where the link is to be added, createa URL Item Link and add the above URL, select option "Open in new browser window"
    4. It can also be enhanced to have filtering enabled on the report by using Portal Form using Option, "Form based on stored procedure" and selecting the above stored procedure.

  • Photo Book - issue with generating full size picture in PDF file

    Need some assistance here.
    I have created a photo book that I would like to order. In the middle of the book I have 2 pages that contain a full size picture on each of the pages. When I generate the PDF file one of these two pictures do not generate correctly leaving an incorrectly rendered rectangle in the bottom left hand corner. 80% of the time it is on of the 2 large 8x10 pictures, the other 20% it is the other 8x10 picture. Aperture does indicate the dpi is large enough to support a quality 8x10 photo.
    I have exported jpeg files for each of these pictures and there were no problems. I am not sure by I have this problem in creating the PDF. Does any one see a potential issue with the book? When I order the photo book is it done through he PDF file or are the pictures sent in?
    Because of the issue I am cautious to order the Photo Book, but would like to do so.
    Any thought or feedback? Is this something that will come through as problem with the photo book as well?
    Thanks

    Hi ejg999,
    I have a similar problem running 10.5.2/ Aperture 2.0 trial.
    My 15800*4700 pixel (19.8mb) panorama was completely screwed up when printing the book to PDF. I did not span the pict over 2 pages as the center part would not be visible in the book's fold. I created 2 full size pages, resized the frames and adjusted their position.
    The print just shows hundreds of small squares, some seem ok, some are blue, some are rendered partially. Totally unusable.
    The physical memory was not the problem as I had at least 500mb free during the printing operation.
    I printed the book twice: same problem. I thought shutting down Aperture would resolve the error. but all my pics were gone. And the Time Machine did not backup while Aperture was running (still a bug). Aaaaaarghhhh.
    I managed to restore my work. I will try to create a smaller copy of the panorama and try to print.
    BTW, what is the size of your photo creating the problems?
    regards
    FranzMacN

  • In large PDF files my cursor moves around the page at warp speed. It does not seem to make any difference if I slow it down with Sys Prefs. This is not only in preview but also other programs to open PDFs.

    In large PDF files the cursor moves at warp speed with a mind of it's own, I've tried slowing it down in Sys Pref with no luck. On small files cursor action is normal. This happens in Safari, Preview and other programs that use PDF files. Sorry to say this does not seem to be a new problem with 7.# I've had it with prvevious versions of operating system Right now I'm using a Apple wireless mouse and key board. Using the USB keyboard and mouse the same problem does not go away.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

    I am having a similar and more serious problem. It takes a
    long time to execute, but even attaching a small image balloons the
    pdf to 6MB plus. After a few images it gets up to 20MB. These are
    100k jpeg files being attached. The resulting PDF is too large to
    email or process effectively. Does anyone know how to reduce
    size/processing?
