Issues while implementing Graceful switchover and switchback

Hi Guru's,
I had a DR Drill between one of my 10.2.0.4 ( standard edition) Primary database server and it's manaual standby dr server. Where only reports were going to be generated.
With reference to http://www.pafumi.net/Graceful_Failover_Failback.html , I have implemented Graceful Switchover and Switchback feature for this activity.
1. Disabled the jobs
a) where my new archives are being copied on to dr server
b) manual archive apply for standby
2. I did a clean shutdown both (Primary and manual dr)
3. Verified the sequence# on both ( it was same)
4. Copied Control file ,Redolog files from Primary to Standby
5. Replaced and renamed standby control file with primary one
6. STARTUP MOUNT – standby database
7. Renamed Datafiles and Redo logfiles at MOUNT state ( As redo log were already copied to the specified location after renaming)
8. Verified all the datafiles and redo log files are renamed properly.
9. Perform RECOVER DATBASE; -- Where I have received following error:

ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: 'E:\PROD\REDOLOG2.LOG'However ; I have tried to perform the same steps with fresh copy ( cold backup of Primary) of redo log files ,but end up with same message, this time it was for redo log group 1.
I have also Startup the primary and performed some log switches and tried to redo the entire activity. But no success.
Finally i have taken cold backup of manual standby (data+control) in a folder.
Then i had to activate the standby database since the business user was waiting for the running reports .
As soon as the testing (i.e. generating reports worked fine , we performed the revertback where i have simply restored the cold backup of standby.
Started my Primary , and enabled the jobs that i disabled in step 1.
Please suggest me as to why this failure has happened ? As per the error information in Control file and Redo log did not matched :-( but why ??
Any advice / observation will be appreciated.

I had a small doubt over here,
can I follow this procedure:
1). I will ask my ABAP team to create those mentioned objects manually.
2). Then I will implement the SNOTE , so that the corrections will be inserted into those objects.
I do understand your point earlier that to manually apply the corrections (In this case both step1 & 2 will be done by ABAPer's).
Please let me know if above procedure works .

How to resolve Issues while implement gateway security by using reginfo,secinfo?

I want to implement gateway security using gw/reg_info, gw/sec_info, gw/reg_no_conn_info.
so far I have created reginfo and secinfo files to allow all internal traffic and I kept gw/reg_no_conn_info=11, gw/acl_mode=1
reginfo

with the above setting I believe all the programs with in sap systems(including app servers), also system from domain abc.com can register programs with out having any issues.

similarly as per secinfo content I believe that all the internal traffic can go with out any issue with in sap system.
beside that I have activated gateway logging to find the rejecting connections if any.
I have following questions:

1)As the reginfo,secinfo files maintained can I remove gw/acl_mode=1 parameter ?
2)if I want to add a specific programs to register from 3rd party system, suppose a program called "zram" from system "172.198.10.1" where I suppose to add it. Do I need to add that IP to secinfo along with reginfo?
3)when I set parameter gw/reg_no_conn_info=11 when convert to binary it equals to 00001011
what exactly this means from the following definitions from note 1444282
1 1298433 Bypassing security in reginfo & secinfo
2 1434 117 Bypassing sec_info without reg_info
4 1465129 CANCEL registered programs
8 1473017 Uppercase/lowercase in the files reg_info and sec_info
will that means 8+2+1 means satisfying the above 3 lines except condition 4 ?
4) I enabled gateway logging, how could I catch rejecting connections from third party systems?
5)From simulation mode I got to know that It will satisfy reginfo,secinfo restrictions and it will allow all other traffic.so what is the added advantage with this when activate?
6)is there any sap native tools which help while preparing reginfo, secinfo files?

Here is answers for questions 4 and 5.
4) I enabled gateway logging, how could I catch rejecting connections from third party systems?
SMGW->Goto->Expert functions->logging
In the above path if you select security->(under that)->Rejected access only
when you select that it should show you the connections getting rejected.
5)For simulation mode you have 2 options. you can activate directly from the above path.Other option if you maintain gw/sim_mode = 1 that will make the permanent simulation mode. But once after all the entries set in reginfo you have to disable simulation mode. with secinfo you will not have much problems.
After doing steps 4, 5 you can see rejected entries in Gateway log.

Hi Sam,
Set a break on SCWB_CINST_READ function, in one of the selects cwbcihead table (Header date for correction instructions), you can see will that not find the correction statement.
In case the statement is a note from a previous version,it´s not possible to insert the statement in the table manually, because for some reason had an inconsistency and the statement was not inserted in the table.

Date Format issue while Connecting to Oracle8i and Oracle10g

Hi All,
While playing around with JDBC drivers, I came across this weird issue. I have a Local machine with Japanese Locale and I have 2 Database Servers that too with Japanese Locales and Oracle 8i and Oracle 10g each. Now, I connect to these database using JDBC drivers for 8i and perform "select sysdate from dual". Then, m getting dates with 2 different format. While 8i being returning Date with 'DD-MON-RRRR' format, 10g returns date with 'DD-MM_RR' format.
Initially I thought it might be because of some VM Locale thing but when I connected to 10g DB from 8i Oracle client, this behaviour did not changed. Which mean in this case also the date format returned ny the query was different.
Guys F1! F1! (Help! Help!) Appreciate your help to understand this process. Links and suggestions welcome... :)

I guess u did not read the whole content. I mentioned this but the difference in behaviour with respect to JDBC drivers made me post this in Java forum.
As I mentioned, it has something to do with the jdbc driver or oracle server itself. Agreed, but what that "something little to do" is the maiin question.
I mentioned that I want to understand this process about how JDBC driver works with Client VM specific Locale settings while interacting with Oracle Database.
Don't you think it could be interesting to know, what it is which brings this difference in results. Its all about clarifying the small bits & pieces which stays unanswered if one overlooks. Its own perception, I felt like asking question, no offense right!

BAM Portal issue while implementing BAM tutorial 4

Hello All,
I am trying to implement BAM tutorial. I have deployed everything as specified in the tutorial, except for RTA. I am not using RTA.
When I checked the BAM Portal I can see views and activities over there. But not all fields are having values in it.
Do anyone have any idea why few fields are blank over here?

The reason for fields in a BAM View being empty is because
They are not assigned any value - Values in BAM are assigned either through TPE mapping OR through BAM API in the orchestration.
If a BAM Activity is populated using a mixture of BAM API & TPE then it is possible that there are different fields being used for Activity ID and as a result TPE is mapping the same activity using Message ID while the orchestration is using the Instance
Id to create the activity. In such a scenario TWO activities are being created.
In your case, it is possible that you've missed some steps in the tutorial where after deploying the Activity (through bm.exe) there may have been instructions on TPE and mapping of the message instance data into the BAM Activity.

If you have any SELECT FOR UPDATE in your code, these will produce locks, and it will not be released until the session which has locked the record has released it. This can be one reason why you have this behavior.
you need to trail your code if it's explicitly locking a row or more.

Colour / contrast issues while capturing DV/HDV (and Hi8)

I have a Canon Vixia HV30 which I use to record HDV and DV, and use iMovie HD/6 to capture the footage. I'm noticing during import that the colour and contrast quality both seem to be degraded compared to what I see on the camcorder screen (and how it would appear if I were to plug it in directly into my television). Is this just something to do with the playback during import (ie it's not displaying the level of quality that's it's actual capturing?)
I actually noticed something similar happening when using iMovie HD/6 to capture Hi8/Digital8 footage from my old Sony DC-TR460 (colour-quality loos); but I assumed that had to do with the passthrough occurring on the Digital8 Sony camera.
Any insight into any of the above? I want to have the highest possible quality capture of all my tapes!

Thanks. Yes my next step will definitely be to burn a DVD of the video and compare it to playing directly off of the original tape from the camera to the tv.
I suppose a follow-up question is what IS a good playback format? I've attempted to export this captured video using numerous settings and nothing ever comes out looking good, including H.264 with the deinterlace option selected. Moreover the dulled colour/darkness issue persists no matter what settings I try.
I'm starting to wonder if it's all worth shooting HD/DV footage at all if I want to share it online. I don't have any problems with the little AVI files my 6 Megapixel Canon Cybershot takes; they look great and I don't need to do anything to them! I obviously want to have the best quality source files possible, and yes, would love to be able to play it on big widescreen tvs as well. But it seems to me one precludes the other!

Issue while insert and update data to DB tables

i am having an issue while insert the data to DB table.
my scenario is DB1 to DB2. i had a sender channel with select query which fetches data from DB1 and inserts to DB2.
so the select query will fetch the records that were INSERTED to DB1 and records that were UPDATED to DB1 and needs to insert/update to DB2 table.
Now the issue is i am able to insert the records but not able toupdate the records to DB2 table due to primary key issue.

1. action as UPDATE_INSERT
2. in access tab, i had mapped fieldDate to field4.
3. in Key tab, i assigned the sysdate to field4.

Implementing 3.5 and compatibility issues

Hi,
How can I check the compatibility of Netweaver 2004s to somehting in SAP R3? There are still suggestions out there to implement 3.5 and not BI 7.0? Is there still anyone implementing 3.5?

Hi Ellen,
Some how in my project decision has been taken to implement BW 3.5 Content and not BW 7.0.
I was looking for the answer for the same question you posted.
So can anyone comment on the best practice, about what to install 3.5 content or 7.0 Content. Here in my project Client doent really understands the difference, may be thats why this decision was taken.(To avoid delay in implementation ,as 7.0 version is not stable yet and has ots off OSS notes and issues??)

Some times after some time, able click on new tab and did open any urls. But it is rare. Please help me on this issue. Because of this unable to work with QTP/UFT tool.

Then, please also make sure to install latest Windows Updates which might address this issue.

when I try to do the same in my system SAP gives me an information message as follows:-
Changes to transported Business Add-In definitions are incompatible
Message no. ENHANCEMENT236
Diagnosis
This business add-in definition has already been transported. Subsequent changes could invalidate existing business add-in implementations.
System Response
The runtime behaviour is no longer predictable. Syntax errors or short dumps may occur.
Procedure
If possible, do not make these changes. Alternatively, create a new business add-in definition incorporating the changes and use it, along with the existing definition.
It clearly indicates that the BADI definition should not be changed if active implementations already exists.
I am really now not sure how to solve your issue.
Try deactiviting the standard BADI implementation.
Then again add the filter and then remove it.
And then try activating the BADI implementation once again.
