Issues with upgrading to 10.5.7 & iTunes 8.2

Yesterday I tried to do all the recommended updates in Software Update (I procrastinated a couple of times on the automatic update because I wasn't ready to do it yet). Included in that list were the 10.5.7 update for the OS and the iTunes 8.2 update. I'm using an iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24").
At some point during the installation process, I noticed that the status bar hadn't moved for about 20 minutes. It was stuck on, if I remember correctly, "Running Install Script" or something very similar to that (I should've written all this down, I know). I let it continue for another 10 minutes or so.
Finally, after coming to this site on my phone and looking up this problem, I saw that it had happened to others. I did what some others had suggested elsewhere in these forums and turned off my computer, intending to download the Combo Update from the Apple site. I started my computer up moments later and tried to do just that, but About This Computer tells me that I'm already using 10.5.7. I wanted to make sure I had a clean update because I couldn't see how it had managed to complete the update, but this is the error message I get when I try to install the Combo Update: "The Installer could not extract files from the package for MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.7. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." (I don't have AppleCare anymore, so I'd like to try fixing this without calling tech support if possible.) I shut my computer down and stepped out for a while to calm down... My computer was sluggish at first but after leaving and coming back to it, now it seems to be working with the exception of iTunes, even though I haven't managed to install the Combo Update yet.
As for iTunes, after I failed to complete the Combo Update, I decided to try opening iTunes because I'd seen that some people had problems with it after downloading 10.5.7. I got an error saying that iTunes was corrupted and that I'd need to remove it and reinstall the application. In my impatience and frustration, I think I screwed up -- I thought I could simply delete the iTunes file from the Applications folder and install a new iTunes version, but now that I've calmed down, I'm sure that was absolutely the wrong thing to do (hence the reason I had to step away for a while). I didn't remove any Preferences or Library folders or files at all, just dragged the iTunes icon itself into the Trash. When I tried to install 8.2 from the file I downloaded from the Apple site, the Installer gave me an error that said only that it couldn't install a file in a folder called "/". I turned off AirPort (remembering that someone mentioned that here as well) and tried again. Now I receive this error message: "The Installer could not create the folder '/private/tmp/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg.293lgzyRf.'" (I tried this once earlier and the series of numbers and letters at the end were different, but the error message was otherwise the same.)
Do I need to Archive & Install from a system disc and just try to download the 10.5.6 system update? Am I going to need to start over with iTunes from a system disc? I'm really at a loss for what to do now. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.

What I am doing is just installing the updates 1 by 1 instead of using the combo update. I don't know why but possibly jumping from 10.5 to 10.5.7 might be too much?
Combo updates normally take care of all previous updates, so you shouldn't have to do that. However, some people have had issues going to 10.5.7 (from any earlier point). So your method should be interesting. Make sure you repair permissions after each update, and I would also try out the MBP to make sure it works after each update. Then, if it does fail again, you should have a pretty good idea which update caused it. Time consuming yes, but may be worth it in the end.

  • I'm having issues with connecting my iPhone 4 to iTunes?

    Here's some information:
    Apple product: iPhone 4
Computer: Windows 8 (originally) to Windows 8.1 (upgraded version)
Okay, I'm having issues with connecting my iPhone 4 to iTunes. I've connected it via U.S.B. and now everything's not working right the 10th time. Am I to redownload the iTunes software once again or will I never be able to add music anymore?

  • Issue with Upgrading to 2nd Generation MotoX

Dear Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility,
Your 2nd Generation Moto X Upgrade program is fatally flawed and my experience highlights everything that could possibly go wrong when attempting to upgrade an existing plan.
As Verizon replied to my tweet (my twitter name is @melting_plastic), “Getting a new phone should be an exciting time.” but my experience has been everything but that.
My current phone is a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. This was my first entry into the Android operating system and I fell in love. As a former Blackberry user, I was a bit hesitant to switch but upon receiving this phone in May of 2012, I had nothing but a great experience with it. This experience made want to continue with a Motorola phone upon my next available upgrade and I had waited to upgrade my phone until the newest Motorola phones were announced. I put off my upgrade for over 5 months waiting for the announcement of a new phone with my current phone deteriorating. The battery life has dropped to less than 2 hours and it has begun to freeze constantly with all the upgrades to software that it is unable to handle. Due to these issues, I checked every day waiting for an announcement of the new Moto X to be release and was finally happy when it was announced it would be released on September 27th for Verizon.
On the morning of Friday September 27th, I attempted to order my phone, a 32gb model, through the MotoMaker website and my first issue arose. Even though I was eligible for an upgrade, the MotoMaker website required a credit check for me to upgrade. As I am not the primary account holder, I did not feel comfortable inputting my father's information for a credit check. I also felt it was not necessary as I was paying the $149.99 by my credit card and the account has been with Verizon since the mid 1990's while it was still Bell Atlantic. As I was eligible for an upgrade and not a new account, it seemed a bit much that this credit check was needed. After searching the internet, I found many posts from the original Moto X release about this issue and the solution was to go to a Verizon Wireless store and pre-purchase the phone there and use the provided pin to order the phone at the MotoMaker website.
During my lunch break on September 27th, I visited the Wireless Zone retailer in Malvern Pennsylvania and waited for over 45 minutes to talk to an associate in an attempt to pre-purchase this phone and receive a pin for the website. This associated had no information about the ability to purchase this pin nor could he order the 32gb model directly for me. He apologized to me about the wait and his inability to fulfill my order but recommended me to go to a retail Verizon Wireless store as they may be able to help me.
After returning to work, I decided to attempt to discuss my issue using the Verizon Wireless help chat on its website. The operator suggested to call the Verizon support line and that they should be able to help me on this purchase. I proceeded to place the call, once again waiting on hold for 30 minutes, until I finally was able to talk to a representative. This representative was unable to help me but transferred me to another department that may be able to. After a brief hold, I was transferred to an individual who was finally able to help me out. He informed me that the 32gb model was not in the Verizon system but was expected to be added on October 1st. He apologized for the wait but at least he was able to provide me with valid information.
On Saturday October 4th, I visited the Verizon Retail location in King of Prussia Pennsylvania and once again waited 45 minutes before being seen by a representative. This time I was helped by an associate named Jeremy who knew exactly what I meant by purchasing a pin. After a bit of struggling to properly place the order, the order was placed with the help of a manager, at the price of $199.99 with a $50 mail-in-rebate. This became the 2nd area of disappointment. Not only did I have to wait to purchase this phone but I had to pay an increased rate up front and needed to send in for a mail-in-rebate. I thanked Jeremy for his help and headed back to my residence 15 miles away.
Once home, I attempted to place the order for my phone. As I live 100+ miles away from the primary account address, I had planned to have the phone shipped to my work as I had done when I purchased my Droid Razr Maxx. The MotoMaker website prevented me from changing the shipping address and I was once against frustrated by this process. I used the MotoMaker online support tool and they informed me that I must contact Verizon and they can adjust the shipping address as each PIN has a pre-defined shipping address attached to it.
I called Verizon's technical support line at approximately 4:30PM from my home phone. After once again waiting on hold for half an hour, I was finally connected to an associate and she was very friendly and attempted to help me with my shipping issue. She understood my frustration and placed a 3-way call between her, myself and Motorola support. During this call, she and myself became very frustrated with Motorola support staff as they refused to adjust the shipping address and stated that there was nothing that they could do. She apologized to me and suggested that I return to the King of Prussia location and attempt to sort it out there.
Begrudgingly, I returned to the Verizon location and once again waited to speak to Jeremy. He apologized for my situation and saw the only way to rectify it was to have FedEx adjust the shipment address after it had been shipped. He informed me that any charges that would be incurred to do so would be credited to my account if I returned to the store with the receipt.
I returned home and attempted to place the order again. This time I was able to adjust my shipping address and placed the order. While doing so, I received an error message and was instructed to call Motorola's support line. I called this line at around 7:45PM and spoke to a gentleman named Christian. He opened up support case 141005-006808 and informed me that because of my attempt to change the shipping address, this was why the error occurred. He instructed me to attempt to replace the order using the original supplied address and e-mail account and that I “must” use the Chrome web browser. This statement of having to use the Chrome browser was a complete fallacy and he refused to accept that any other browser could be used to properly order the phone. I installed the Chrome browser, attempted to order the phone and this time I was informed that my PIN was already used, likely during the original failed attempt. Christian informed me that he must escalate the issue and it would take an additional 24-48 hours. The simple act of creating a new PIN should not take this amount of time.
On Monday October 6th, I was finally able to get in contact with another associate from Motorola who was instantly able to create a new PIN for me. I once again placed the order and this time it went through with no issue, order number 00789348. The only disappointment was that I now had to wait until “approximately October 27th” to receive my new phone. During my waiting period, I periodically check the MotoMaker website and during that time, noticed that they offered an additional $50 discount on the Verizon Moto X which would have brought my total down to $99.99. So on top of the additional wait and disappointment, I had now paid $100 over the current price through MotoMaker .
On Tuesday, October 22nd, I finally received the e-mail stating that my phone had shipped and was due to arrive in Forked River, NJ on October 23rd. Using the FedEx website, I attempted to adjust my shipping address to my work, at the cost of $30 and a delay until Friday October 24th. I was unable to perform this action and then attempted to adjust the shipping address to the location I would be at Friday night (my sister's house) for the same delay, but only a cost of $5. Once again I was unable to perform this action and decided to call FedEx directly. After speaking to the associate at FedEx, she informed me that the only way to adjust the address was to have the shipper, Motorola Mobility adjust the address. With my previous issues with Motorola, I knew that this request would be denied. At this point, my only recourse is to have my parents ship me the phone to my work once they receive it on October 23rd. Even then, I'm unsure if FedEx will leave the phone at the location without a signature if no one is there to sign for it, which is why I attempted to ship the phone to my work.
At this point, I'm extremely dissatisfied with both Verizon and Motorola with how this whole situation has transpired. I feel a though I should have purchased an Apple iPhone 6 even though I am not a fan of the iOS platform or a different Android OS manufacturer. As a Fios account holder, I am also tempted to switch to the competition after 3+ years of being a customer. I feel that both Motorla and Verizon failed to rectify any hardship I had experienced in my attempt to purchase this phone and even now fear that I will not receive my phone in time to mail in mail-in-rebate which needs to be postmarked by November 1st.

MPerreca, This is quite a lot for you to have to go through! We surely don't want to lose your business as we appreciate your loyalty with us. I understand the challenges that can come in needing the shipping address changed on your phone orders. I'm glad to learn that the phone is now on it's way.
I'm confident that you'll be fine with submitting the rebate for your phone. If you do run into troubles with the submission, please let us know. You can also pre-submit your rebate information, here: http://bit.ly/1kKwKJK. Let us know if you have further concerns.

  • Issues with screensaver after playing video in iTunes

I've recently started having an issue with my screensaver not turining itself on if i pause videos played in iTunes (fullscreen), and after escaping fullscreen view and pausing video the screensaver won't turn itself on. At all, not until I restart my iMac.
The iMac is completely up to date (OS X 10.7.2), bought mid-2011, came with Lion. I just got the iMac back from repair service, it should be working fine. Why is this happening?

My guess is that you have an Nvidia Nforce SATA controller, and are affected by a known bug in the Nvidia driver. Apple mention it briefly at the bottom of this document. HP have posted what appears to be a standard Microsoft SATA driver here to work around the problem until Nvidia releases an updated driver. Since it appears to be a standard driver, you may be able to install it on a non-HP system too.

  • Having issues with putting purchased music back into iTunes after reinstall

I have been having issues with iTunes closing itself out right after I open it. I deleted the program, then re-installed it, which fixed the problems with quitting. However, I cannot copy my previous library back into iTunes. I saved the iTunes music file and the .xml file to my desktop before uninstalling the program. When I tried to add the music back into iTunes, I keep getting this message: Attempting to copy the disk "Macintosh HD" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It does not appear on all songs that I tried to add back, but it happened for quite a few of my purchased songs. Is there any way to fix the files or do I need to download the songs again? I tried running the Disk Utility to repair Permissions, but that has not helped with anything.
I am running iTunes on a MacBook with Mac OS X 10. 4. 11, if that will help with anything.

    jjdevney wrote:
I had to reinstall Windows XP, erasing everything on the hard disk. I had saved the music files with backup software, so I now have them back. But iTunes won't add them to my library. I tried importing songs from a new CD to see where iTunes put those files, and then copying an album folder into the same location. But Windows wouldn't copy the files inside the foder. Nearly all the songs were originally taken from CDs in my collection, and the songs are still on my iPod Nano.
    Wow,
Wonder why XP won't let you copy files?, perhaps you used a different user name?
Or these are the old DRM versions of the songs? You should be able to log into your iTunes account and authorize the computer and iTunes should recognize the songs.
Well since you have the iPod Nano, you can head over to iLounge and ask them what current third party software works to move your iPod Nano music back to iTunes.
Hope that works out for you

  • Issues with Upgrade to WebTools 6 SP01 PL02

    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to check and see if anyone else had issues with the upgrade to the latest and greatest patch of Webtools SP01 PL02.  I tried last night and ran into 3 major errors:
    1.  I received an error related to npdatepicker that it exists in two different DLL's.  I validated that all dll's were updated, but continued to receive this error.
    2.  When trying to place the order, I received an error that the credit card was invalid.  I could not get past this screen.  I was not even using a credit card for the Order, it was going "On Account", but would not let me place the order.  I didn't see that I needed to change anything for processing credit cards and it worked fine in the previous version.
    3.  All Order Confirmations were re-sent, back from the beginning of time.  Now, usually I turn that off, which I did, but I rebooted the machine and it kicked off the message service, but why would all of the orders be re-sent?  The flags should not have flipped during the upgrade.
I am going to submit a ticket for all of these issues, but was just wondering if anyone else ran into these problems.  Please let me know, your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kristen

Yes, it is tied to NoAuthorization.  HOLD ON...  Sorry, this was not tied to NoAuthorization, it was tied to something else, but not sure why.  There were two On Accounts and one was set properly and the other wasn't.  Now if I can get through the below issue then I can test if it works now.  Please let me know and THANKS!
Also, here is the error message I get when I go to the verify.aspx page.  I cannot get past this.

  • Issues with upgrading client from 1.2 to 3.0

I've upgraded a bunch of Mac's ARD client from 1.2 to 3.0 using ARD 3 admin's upgrade client feature. On some, I can't Observe or Control. So far I can copy files, run reports, and see current status. I can also ssh into machines with no problems. I've run the updater a second time and no go.
All of these Macs were on 10.3.6. So sshed into them and ran all updaters and repaired permissions. Then upgraded ARD client.
Any thoughts on whats the cause of this problem and how to remedy it?
    Any suggestions is appreciated.

    More info after some testing.
Noticed machines that started out with base OS 10.3.1 with subsequent updates are the ones having observe/control issue. Most update progressions: 10.3.2, 10.3.3, 10.3.6 combo, 10.3.9 combo.
Machines that started out with base OS 10.3.5 are not effected after upgrading to 10.3.9.
Repaired permissions, updated binding, re-applied 10.3.9 combo update to one machine with no change.
Removed client by taking following steps - KB 108021
    $ sudo rm -rf /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu\ Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu
    $ sudo rm -rf /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/
    $ sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ARDPref.prefPane
    $ sudo rm -rf /System/Library/StartupItems/RemoteDesktopAgent/
$ sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ARDAgent.plist not applicable in any of my configs
    $ sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist
Built an client installer package using ARD 3 admin and still can't Observe/Control but most other items seem to function.
I'm suspecting this has to do with base OS these machines were built on. Running out of ideas. I would like to find out whats preventing me to control machine instead of rebuilding a bunch of machine. Any input is appreciated.

  • Issues with apple TV 1st Gen and iTunes (current)

I'm having trouble getting my 1st generation AppleTV configured the way I want it... Here is my setup: I have iTunes Home Sharing turned on, and access a common iTunes library located on a networked drive. I use it's content from my macbook (not always turned on) and my mac mini (always on and available).
What I'd like to do is stream content from iTunes on my mac mini as I don't want to replicate data (iTunes music) on the appleTV. On the other hand, I'd like to sync _some_ photos from my iPhoto library (resident on my macbook) to the appleTV for screensaver/slideshow use.
Can this be done? Would I need to move my iPhoto library to the networked drive as well, then share that library with iPhoto on the two macs? Can this even be done?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated....

I'm having the exact same issue. Nothing in the "Music" menu except "My Music". I Noticed it this afternoon when I woke my Apple TV from standby. The disappearance, in my case, was not related to a reset. My Apple TV has not been reset since the power went out here several weeks ago. Though I obviously don't know for sure, I'm guessing that it's some kind of store problem and we most likely won't be able to correct it from our end.

  • Too many issues with upgrading to OS6 for BB9700 - Going back to OS5

I upgraded to os6 severay days ago. Here are the pros and cons (from a non technical perspective)
    PROS:
    * New look of the calendar and text .... easier on the eyes with different colors
    CONS:
    * Don't know why but after only a few days, I have to reset the BB 4 to 5 times today. It just locked up and I had to pull the battery.
    * THE KILLER - BB developer decided to force the browser to go to my company's network BES, instead of my cellphone carrier's 3G network. Because the company puts so much restraints and limits on accessing the internet from their network, so many websites are locked and off limit.
In the past w OS5. I had 2 icons of browsers, one for the company's browser and one regular browser. I can go to the advanced options to direct the regular browser to go my cellphone carrier 3g network. It worked so well.
Now with OS6, the developers force users to go through their company's BES network. That is crazy. I pay for the Blackberry and the monthly cell phone and internet data plan, and now I cannot use my phone /internet the way I choose .
If the OS6's developers do not listen to users' complaints on this serious issues, then in the near future as my company allows us to access their email and outlook contacts via droid and Iphone, I will be the first to say good bye to Blackberry.
How many users have the same problem as I?

You are confusing RAM with hard drive space - you appear to have the standard amount of RAM (the memory a computer uses to run apps). 4 GB is fine, but considered a minimum - more would be better.
As for the hard drive space (that is the space you have available on your hard drive to read/write): you need 8 GB minimum to install Mountain lion and, as a general rule, you should maintain a minimum of 10 - 15 GB of empty space at all times - more is better there as well. You can find out how much space you have by highlighting your hard drive icon (Macintosh HD icon on your desktop) and control click on it. In the popup window, choose Get Info. Then post the info showing such as Capacity, Used, and Available.
FWIW, Mountain Lion will continue to show in your Purchases because it is available for you to download again should you need it. You obviously have it installed if it shows that you are running 10.8.3 - which, but the way, is not the latest version, so run Software Update: we are up to 10.8.5.

  • How to solve issue with strange iphoto events shown in itunes for sync IOS devices ? This issue is very old and not been fixed by apple... terrible

all softwares latest version january 2013.
I see in itunes many strange crazy iphoto events that in iphoto do not exist.
These vents are named as data and contains just few photos.
each event can be sync with IOS devices, but that event is not in iphoto !
It looks like miniatures... no way to solve this issue making all possible maintenance in iphoto library.
THis issue is very old, very terrible, people start to have doubts about iphoto as a reliable software.
    Need a fix asap.
    Apple please help!
I were with 2 hours at genius bar but nothing.
Genius told me apple have been informed and they are working on a solution..... this 4 months ago !!!
    Need solution asap
    THanks
    Fabio

Apple aren't here. As you're the only person with this problem that I've seen on here, I would suspect that its more a local problem on your machine than something Apple need to fix.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

  • Issues with upgrading from Acrobat 7 to Acrobat 8

    Hi,
I need to purchase Acrobat 8 for a new writer. Currently, we are not planning on upgrading from Acroabt 7 to Acrobat 8 for 15-20 writers. Are there issues that I should be aware of--problems opening files distilled in 7, and vice-versa.
    Thanks,
    Emelda Ben Shoshan

Not really, but it will depend on what kind of pdf files you produce and if you use any standards for pdf conversion.
The main thing to look out for would be for the write with version 8 to make sure he doesn't produce 1.7 pdf files, as these will throw up a warning in earlier versions of Acrobat.
