It just gettin too much!!

Question

i have been trying to solve this problem for the last 4 hours!!
i just can't get the program to get input from the console!!!
This is the simplified version!!

int username = 0;
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Aloha!! Enter username: ");
username = Integer.parseInt(System.in.read());
these are the error that come up using the Sun ONE Studio 4

username = Integer.parseInt(System.in.read());

yup i understand.........but now it generates this error.....excuse me i am just a biginner!!
