Item Category A in BOM

Hi All,
Please guide with the utility of Item Category A in Bill of Materails.
Regards,
Amlan

Dear ,
It has InvMg (Ticked) and Item Cat Text reads as "Alternative Component" I wated to know in which case Item Cat A would be used
When you have marked a item categoery as Inventory Mangamenet in OS13 -it means , you can only list down the material with certain material type which support Inventory management under this  item categoery .So material type is key which will support this item categoery to listed down in BOM -CS02.
Similarly , if the same item categoery al;so marked as Text item , then material with certain material type supoort this category .
So please look back in your Material type set up which support both and list down those materil in CS02 as item with item category A .
It looks very new to me .Generally it should be standard set up as per SAP .But if there is any business requirement to have such item categoery  , then we should chek the those Material Type which supports the same .

    Hi,
Go to the S_ALR_87004496 - User-Specific Settings , here maintain the Category'L'in Mat. item cat
for the users, you will find while creating the BOM, system will automatically pick up the
    L category.

  • Defaulting Item category in Equp BOM

    Dear Experts,
I  have a problem at the time of creating Equipment BOM, i am mentioning all the details in Header data and while entering the material numbers, it is asking to enter the item category.
In our scenario item category for all engg materials is L only. I want to default that field with L. I searched in IMG, but could not get it.
Anybody can guide me to solve this problem??
    Thanks and Regards,
    B. Praveen

    hi
i think you can make using IMG settings under bill of material  ,or use T code OICA and maintain  Make User-Specific Settings
You can specify the following default values:
    item increment
item category for the "New Materials Items" screen
item category for the "New Document Items" screen
item category for the "New Class Item" screen
    material provision indicator
    PM assembly (maintenance BOMs)
    dialog print options (BOM evaluations)
    Recommendation
You should maintain the following values:
item category for the "New Material Items" screen
item category for the "New Document Items" screen
You can define default values which are valid for all users by making entries for a user 'DUMMY'

  • Item category in equipment BOM ?

    hi all,
how could i chose the item category of a component while creating equipment BOM.
how do i know weather it is of 'L' of 'N' or any thing else.
    regards,
    chandra

    Hi
Item category L- stands for stock items i.e. for these items you normally maintains stocks.
N- is Non stock item i.e. when you use it in BOM its for idication only. However when one creates order & assigns components of item category N, it trigers a PR for immediate procurement. So check with your business requirement.

  • Item Category Group in BOM

    Dear Gurus
I want to create the BOM for Computer = Screen + Herdisk + Key board
    1) Main Item Level processing

    (Computer 1 ).
What item category group should be maintained for sub items?
    2) Subitem Level Processing
I have maintained item category group LUMF in MMR (Sales 2 screen) of the finished product
    (Computer 2).
What item category group should be maintained for sub items?
    3) Also explain about how to mainatin the master records (CS01).

    Ashish,
Suppose the material is completed then the value is shown against final product. In that case we use Item vategory Group ERLA. The maina item category will be shown as TAQ. The Subitem will take item category TAE (text item)
If the material is still not complete then the value is ascertaind through sub items in that case LUMF item category is used and item category for the main item is TAP and for sub items it is TAN.
In any case we will change the item category group as (ERLA or LUMF) in the material master of the final material "Computer". Where as the subitems item category will be "Norm".
Note: If you use standarad Order = OR, and standard item category group ERLA in the Finished MAterial Conmputer, then system will automatically assign item categories for Main item = TAQ and SUb Items = TAE.
Standard process and ORder = OR
Then  Execute MM02 for finished material or Main materialo alone i.e., "Computer",  Assign Item Category Group = ERLA and save. Then create BOM CS01, CS11 Single level the output will be
    COMPUTER = TAQ
    SCREEn = TAE
    HERdisk = TAE
    Key board= TAE.
Similarly if you proceed process by changing Item category group = LUMF for main material i.e., Finished goods "Computer" then
    COMPUTER = TAP
    SCREEn = TAN
    HERdisk = TAN
    Key board= TAN
If you are changing the document type prefixed with Z , then you need to proceed with "Assign tem Catgeory"

  • High-Level items (item category LUMF, Sales BOM Usage 5) in PO's

One of our plants supplies High-Level Items to their customers. The GenItemCatGroup MARA-MTPOS_MARA and the Item category group MVKE-MTPOS for these items is =  LUMF.  These are essentially Phantom items, which they do not stock.
Weu2019ve created BOMu2019s for these items with BOM Usage 5
The components for these BOMu2019s are GenItemCatGroup MARA-MTPOS_MARA and the Item category group MVKE-MTPOS = NORM
In our sales orders, the high-level (LUMF) item comes in with Item Category TAQ, and all sub-items come into the order as TAE.
The TAQ items are relevant for pricing.  The TAE items are not.
The requirements in MD04 are as follows:  No requirement for the LUMF item (phantom item).  Requirements DO appear for the sib-items.
Everything seems to be working fine as far as Sales Orders are concerned.
Our problem is that this same plant will also sell the same LUMF high-level items to other plants within our organization via Purchase Order (Type NB).
When an NB purchase order is processed, the MD04 only shows requirement for the LUMF Phantom Material.  There are no requirements generated for the sub-items.
What do we need to do so that the NB Purchase Orders with LUMF items react the same way that sales orders do, as far as demand in stock requirements, pricing, etc?

  • Bom massive change of item category

    dear
can you suggest a valid tool for a massive change of item category.
I need to change the item category of many bom component.
The old value is L , the new value is N.
In transaction CS02 is very difficult to change the item category of a component.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It is not possible to change the Item Category. You would need to delete the line & re-create back with the new item category.
You may use CEWB as suggested above, or you may go for a Z program.

  • Bom -item category

    Dear all
wht is use of item category text in bom? and how it will work?
At time of creation of production order the item category  is copied  in production order or not ?

    Hi,
    Bill of Material Item
    Definition
The components of a technical object are located in the items of the BOM. Item data is only valid for a particular item within the BOM.
    Structure
Items are differentiated by their category (). The item categories are differentiated by an item category key.
    Further important item indicators are
    Item Status
    Data relevant to Plant Maintenance
    Item Category
    Stock item
This item category applies to components which are kept as stock. Any components entered with this category in the BOM must have a valid master record in the system.
When you use this item category, stock item components are automatically reserved for the maintenance order.
    Non-stock item
This item category is used for components which are not kept in stock if they are used in a bill of material (BOM). Non-stock items can be entered in the BOM with or without a master record. To enter a non-stock item without a master record, you must simply enter a descriptive text.
When you use this item category, the system automatically creates a purchase requisition for these components, when they are used for maintenance purposes. This leads to order-specific materials procurement via the purchasing department.
    Variable-size item
This item category enables you to specify different sized sections of a component with one material number. Variable-size items are distinguished by the fact that format entries, such as length and width, are taken and converted into the quantity required for warehouse management purposes.
When you use this item category, variable data, such as the size of a steel sheet required to repair some planking, can be entered directly by the user during order processing. You do not have create new material master records with fixed dimensions in the system each time.
    Document item
This item category is for components which contain information stored as documents. A document can be a design drawing, program, photograph and so on.
When you use this item category, the bill of material (BOM) is connected to the document management system.
    Text item
When you use this item category, the system stores your text in a text file using the long text processing function.
    PM structure element
This item category is for components in plant maintenance which are only used for structuring a technical object (PM assembly). No plant data is necessary for this item.
This item category is only used in plant maintenance for equipment and material bills of material relevant to plant maintenance.
    Class Items
The class item enables you to create a class as the components in a configurable bill of material (BOM for a standard product). Several objects can be allocated to this class, and differentiated by different characteristics.
You can find further information relevant to variant configuration in the SAP documentation PP- Variant Configuration.
    Item Category Key
The different item categories are represented by a letter key in the standard SAP System:
    L stock item
    N non-stock item
    R variable-size item
    D document item
    T text item
    I PM structure element
    K class item
As the letters of an item category key are defined in Customizing, you can adapt the letters accordingly.

  • Regarding difference between item category TAQ & TAN price relevant in BOM

In Bills Of Materials in MAIN ITEM-- TAQ is price relevant & In SUB ITEM --TAN is price relevant.so what is the difference between them

    Hi Kalpataru,
The settings for TAQ and TAN are the same in standard system. You could check it in VOV7.
Normally we provide two sample standard item category groups for BOM creation.
If you are using item category group ERLA in materail master, then the BOM will be created as following:
    Main Item TAQ (Pricing)
    Sub Item TAE   (no pricing)
And if you using item category group LUMF, then the BOM will be created as following:
    Main item TAP (no pricing)
    Sub Item TAN (Pricing)
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Item category to control the sales qty?

    Hi experts
I hope to query how item category works ?  Now we found if the high level matieral item category as A, low level matieral item category as B.
In BOM, we set 1 A = 2B . When we place quote or sales order, it will say " the B item only could set qty as 1" .
Does it control by item category ? In BOM, it could set B matieral qty as 2.  but in sales order, it give error when we do ATP check and check the productuion order.
      How to solve it ?
    Thanks
    ALICE

    Dear Alice
I donot understand your requirement fully
Header level TAQ u2013 Pricing applicable to header level
Item level TAE- Item level only components ( no pricing)
    Header level TAP- No pricing
Item leve TAN- Pricing  (Only components have pricing)
Similarly for free goods. TAN & TANN.
This can be determined by sales order type + item category group + usage + higher level item category

  • PM - Task List Components with "Non-Stock" item Category

    Hi:
I am setting the PM module, in concret the preventive task lists. For a certain operations I have to assign some components to certain operations, but the system only allows to add "Stock Items", I mean the item category of the material row is set automatically by the system as "L" (Stock Item).
I am very interested in to assign "Non-stock items" (Item category = "N").
    Is it posiible??
If the answer is yes, what I have to do? Have I to change some customizing settings?
Thank you very much in advanced,
    Kind regards,
    Jordi Palau.

    hi
In task list you cannot able to assign item category other than L which is stock item.there is no customization to allow the same
but you can indirectly assign the material with item category N.create BOM for the equipment then while adding the material you have to select from the BOM which is having item category N

  • BOM with Item Category T

    Hi friends,
The issue my user is having is that he has created a subcontracting PO ...and later while issuing thro MB1b 541... the system throws an error... PO HAS NO ITEMS..
But PO has a BOM exploded ...when i check it has item category T instead of an L... By the time i could check CS03, the user has deleted the BOM .,so i suggested to create a new one with item category L...The issue got resolved.
But my doubt is how this item category T has appeared in the BOM, since when i try creating a BOM with T i cannot enter matl code but my BOM which had popped in the PO had all details with matl code, desc , qty  and item category as T..
Pls kindly advise and help me understand..
    Thanks
    nandu

When creating your material BOM with Item category T, do not enter the material number.
Only enter decripiton qty. and uom. This should allow you to create the BOM. You would then see this BOM in your Sub-Contract PO. I don't think it was possible you saw the material item in the BOM from your original T category items, as this would not be allowed per standard functionality, as you noted when trying to recreate the incorrect BOM.

  • Item Category N (non-stock item) in BOM creation - Preq Generation

    Hi All
I have a material component that is planned in APO and not in ECC6. We would like to keep the one BOM for the finished good. Problem is that when we perform the backflush in ECC6, the system wants to backflush the material and causes errors due to missing stock.
So I assigned the material as a non stock item in the BOM but the system will auto generate  a purchase requisitions for Non stock bom components (item category N) when the process order is created. It is possible to turn off the auto creation of the purchase req for non stock bom components?
    I have tried the following:
    - Explosion type in item data, created new key with 'Switch off planning' indicator set in system configuration
    - created new 'Z' item category with inventory management de-selected
Both approaches causes system error: Puchase data of material in not maintained
I also tried leaving as a stock item with the bulk material indicator selected in the item data. This does not work as the cif will then exclude the component when data is transferred to APO
Funny enough, the system does not generate a purchase req for non stock bom items when using Repetitive Manufacturing. Any help will be greatly appreciated
    kind regards
    Grant brockelbank

    Hello Vivek
    Thank you for your response
The item is a non stock item. I do not want this item to be backflushed at all. This can be achieved using the 'N' non stock item category but the problem is that the system will attempt to generate a purchase requisition when the process order is created.
I do not want the system to generate a purchase req in ECC6 as this item is a planning material that is planned in APO (used for medium to long term planning in a simulation version). We are hoping to use the one Bom for ECC6 and APO planning. The generation of the purchase reqs is a bit of a waste as we will never convert them and there is potential to cause issues for purchasing.
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks again for your help
    kind regards

  • Item category in BOM

    Hi All
What is the use of item catergory R - Varaible -size item in BOM cso1.
    Thanks and Regards

    Dear,
If you want different-sized sections of a material (raw material) to be represented by one material number in BOM items, you use the R variable size item category.
We use OS15 to create Variable size item formula.
For Ex: To calculate vol. of rectangle
Vol. of recanglet = length * breadth * height
Please refer this link for details,
[Varaible Size item in BOM|variable size item]
