ITunes 10.0.5 will not let me connect my ipad

It says "the iPad cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1.0 or later" but I do not want to upgrade my iTunes version.

OK, I figured it out!!
This is a tricky solution, but it's worked for me numerous times.  Please bear with me as I try to explain the solution clearly.
Go into iTunes, and control-click on the small "X" that should do the song deletion.  Then choose "Copy Link" from the resulting menu.
Keep iTunes where it is, but open a page in Safari.  Paste the link you just copied into a Safari page.  Do not go there yet.  You will have to edit the link first.
Toward the end, the link should have a part that looks like: "removeFromWishlist?wishlistitemid=<some number>."  Between the question mark and the "r" of "remove", you need to insert the following exactly as shown:
force10=true&
So you will end up with a line that looks something like this:
https://se.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStoreElements.woa/wa/removeFromWishlist ?force10=true&wishlistItemId=2
Now, execute that line.  That should remove that particular song for you!!
I figured this out by comparing how the URL for the (successful) removal of an album compares to the URL of a (failing) removal of a song.
Meanwhile, having reported this to Apple, hopefully they'll have a more elegant solution in an upcoming iTunes release.
