ITunes 7 : Party Shuffle : Display 0 Upcoming Songs = Bug ?

I believe I have encountered a bug in iTunes 7, and would like to know if other poeple are having the same problem. If you select "Display 0 Upcoming Songs" in "Party Shuffle" mode, iTunes stops playing instead of choosing another song from the source playlist (after the current song finishes playing).
Previous versions of iTunes did not behave this way.
Can anyone confirm this, or is it a problem specific to my own Mac?
Thanks.

Do not fear, I have the same issue. It only continues to play if songs are displayed before playing.
I am couting the hours until a patch for this comes out. I rely heavily on party shuffle to get through the day.

Why? Drag it to the top of the Party shuffle list.
That's why it's called a party shuffle. You can
    add/delete/rearrange very easily.
    iTunes 6:
you suddenly get an urge to hear a specific song next
switch to iTunes, which is always kept in the Library view
    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
No need to leave the Library view, the song you wanted plays next, and then random tunes play after that's done.
    iTunes 7:

    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
    Now click on Party Shuffle
Drag the song up 5 places
    Click back to the Library
3 extra steps requiring some accurate mousing. Or, ctrl-click the song, select Play Next in Party Shuffle, which is two extra steps. Like I said, not the end of the world, but very annoying.
And I believe it's a bug, since having it set to 5 songs or more, and the tunes will continue playing, but with 0 it stops. It's inconsistent.
If that was their intended behavior, then they should enable the "replay" icon in the bottom left to toggle how it behaves after reaching the end. As it is now, it's greyed out.
Of course, the perfect solution for me would be to have a shortcut key combo that automatically adds any selected tunes to the party shuffle, as if you had right-clicked and selected Play Next. I hate drag-dropping when I don't have to.

  • Party Shuffle - How to exclude songs

    Hi,
I have 3 playlists and the library. One playlist contains meditation songs that I do not want to include when using the Party Shuffle at the Library Level. I also want to achieve the same on my iPod Nano.
I know I can deselect the songs but it is kind of a pain to do so every time I want the shuffle to play. On the other had, I can not do the same on the iPod.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

One playlist contains meditation songs that I do not want to include when using the Party Shuffle at the Library Level.
Stop using the party shuffle at the library level. Instead, create a new Smart Playlist with the rule "Playlist is not Mediation_songs", and then party shuffle that instead. You can use the same playlist on the iPod, if you like.

  • ITunes 9.2 not displaying "Now Playing" Song Info

I recently upgraded my iTunes to 9.2 and have discovered that instead of showing the song, artist and album information when playing music, it instead shows lines that show the song's levels in the top window. Any idea how to change this back to showing song information - I've tried everything I can think of but can't see an option to switch the display back.

In that off-white "Play Zone" (I guess theres no real technical term for it), check to the left of the EQ Visualizer you are seeing, you should see a little circle with a play icon in it. Click that until you get to the song information again. You probably just accidentally clicked it without knowing it.
For reference, that button cycles between what you view in that play area. So for example, this includes now playing info, EQ levels, downloading item progress, etc.

  • Song Played Twice in Party Shuffle

I have a smart playlist set as the source in my Party Shuffle with a rule to only allows songs that haven't played in the last week. However, sometimes the same song appears in Party Shuffle twice, since it still hasn't played recently while it's only in the queue to play. However, after the first instance plays, the second instance is still queued, even though it no longer matches the rules in my smart playlist. How can I submit this to Apple as a bug report/wishlist item for the next update of iTunes?

What happens if you tell Party Shuffle to display 0 upcoming songs?

  • ITunes party shuffle

Hi there, would anyone be able to tell me why if I select "display 0 recently played songs" and "50 upcoming songs" in my party shuffle it still plays songs that can be found in my recently played list? What is it's definition of recently played, does it mean songs recently played in the party shuffle as opposed to recently played in general? And what does upcoming mean?
Is there any way of being more specific for example by dissallowing songs that have been played in the last week and so on? My party shuffle draws songs from another playlist of my favourite songs from the library.
It'd be good if the party shuffle or smart playlists were smarter and you could choose more than one set of rules! eg. "do not include songs played in the last week and do not include an artist in the playlist more than once" etc. Is there any way to achieve this?!
    Thanks for any help!

Thanks Colin, I didn't notice the plus and minus signs that let you add or take away rules in the smart playlist
I've now rigged up a couple of smart playlists and a party shuffle that creates a really good mix, the only thing is that because I've got more albums by some artists than others, the artists that have more albums are randomly selected more often. Do you know if there is any way I can limit the number of times an artist can appear in a smart playlist? I found the script that creates a playlist of one song by every artist, but once a song by a particular artist has been played it will not automatically replace that song with another song by that artist if there is one.
    Thanks again, Darren

  • What exactly are Upcoming Songs & how does iTunes determine them?

I've never really bothered with Party Shuffle before but it always bugged me when it gave the message about Upcoming Songs. I mean, what is an upcoming song? How does iTunes decide it's upcoming?
    Regards,
    spriter

Upcoming Songs are tracks in Party Shuffle that have not yet been played. You can set how many upcoming songs are visible, but this setting does not determine how many upcoming songs there are.
Party Shuffle is like selecting Shuffle for the Library or any playlist except that you can alter the results. You can add or delete tracks and you can manually reorder the upcoming tracks in Party Shuffle. You can also tell Party Shuffle to play higher rated songs more often.
Regular shuffle stops once every track in the playlist has been played, but Party Shuffle will continue playing, adding repeat tracks when needed.

  • Automator, iTunes won't shuffle first song

I have a remote computer running iTunes playing a shuffled playlist. I wrote an Automator task to reshuffle the playlist and start it over again. The Workflow is simple:
Get Specified iTunes Items (for a playlist with one blank song)
    Play iTunes Playlist
Get Specified iTunes Items (with the desired playlist)
    Play iTunes Playlist (with Shuffle)
I found that I need to play another playlist in order for the desired playlist to be reshuffled. Otherwise, it picks up where it left off. So the first half of the workflow does that.
Here's the curious thing, the playlist gets shuffled for all but the first song which is always the same! If I do it manually in iTunes, it shuffles fine. Using automator, the first song stays the same no matter how many times I run the shuffle automator.
If I restart iTunes or even if I play a few other playlists manually, it shuffles once, then has the same first song problem for the subsequent runs.
    Any ideas?

    Is it a smart playlist?
If it is, you could try:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=reshufflesmart
Or you could just set that playlist as a "source" in party shuffle. And just have automator play iTunes Playlist "Party Shuffle".

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 - Party Shuffle not moving to next track.

    Can anyone help?
Since I upgraded to the version above the Party Shuffle only plays one song at a time. All others work fine and play continually.
Bit of a pain because I use Party Shuffle all the time!

i have been experiencing the same problem and itz still not fixed after i had made sure that the 'crossfade playback' is selected. i just dont get it. and then, itunes also seems to highlight the playing track in total blue, which it did not regualarly do-weird.
then, i have also tried re-installing which makes no difference and even worse, i tried installiing the previous version but it wont work cuz it cant read the library that was created by the latest version. so, am stuck with itunes that just wont work properly! this *****! life is just not 'hapenin' without party shuffle!

  • Party Shuffle not recognizing songs

When using my Party Shuffle, I noticed that not all the songs from the album selected were playing. I set up a sample album to see what was going on. On putting in the songs that were not playing, I got the message that "The playlist 'Trial' does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle." All the songs are checked to play, so this is not the issue.
Upon further testing, there is no rhyme or reason to which songs Party Shuffle will recognize and which ones it doesn't. For example, I select all of Album A (an album I downloaded) to put in my Trial album, and it will recognize all the songs EXCEPT for 2. I put in Album B instead (another album I downloaded), and it ONLY recognizes 4 songs from this one.
This holds true for albums that I downloaded as MP3 or AAC. These songs that won't play in the Party Shuffle play just fine if I use the shuffle within the Trail Album.
The only possible solution I can think of is re-downloading my music-not something I have tried as I really don't want to do this...
    Anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm talking about shuffle on the iPod. I have the songs in my Christmas playlist deselected so that they don't play when I shuffle songs in my iPod - I thought. But since the last update, they seem to play anyhow.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to shuffle the songs within my Xmas Playlist, but when I set the iPod's settings to SHUFFLE/SONGS, it will shuffle them from the list once I start it playing, but then it will onlys shuffle SOME of them, not all. I don't get it. Do I have to play them in order to hear all 296 items in the list? Because it only plays 92 at a time. Then when it plays songs from one album too many times, I go and choose another song and it shuffles again from 91, 92 or 93 songs, it seems kind of random. So it is shuffling within the list, but it is only shuffling 1/3 of the songs, and not playing the rest at all.

  • Party Shuffle will not operate

I deleted all the songs in Party Shuffle, and now, the feature will no longer operate. Right now, Party Shuffle lists only one song from one playlist, and when I choose other sources from the source selection list located below the track listing window in an effort to get Party Shuffle to accept other songs, it consistently informs me "The playlist '[chosen source]' does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle. Are you sure you want to choose this playlist?" I receive this message regardless of which source I choose, whether it be my music library or one of my playlists, including the playlist containing the one track now listed. Answering "Cancel" or "Okay" to that dialog box only affects whether or not the chosen source is listed as the selected source. ("Cancel" leaves the source listed as it is, while "Okay" changes the source listed to the selected source, though without affecting the listing of the tracks, er, track.)
Changing the number of recently displayed or upcoming songs does nothing, nor does clicking the Shuffle button in the bottom right corner below the track listing window. As suggested in a similar post, I have selected and deselected the Crossfade Playback option in Preferences > Playback, and I have also selected and deselected the Party Shuffle option in Preferences > General, both to no avail. I have also quit and restarted iTunes, but that had no affect. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it possible somehow to reset Party Shuffle? And if I ultimately do have to perform a re-install of iTunes 7.0.2 to solve this problem, how can I do so without losing or adversely affecting my library or playlists? Thanks for any assistance.

Never mind. I solved the problem when, just for the heck of it, I decided to select (by checkmark, not highlight) all of the tracks in my music library to see if that would make a difference. Yep, it made a big difference. In fact, it made all the difference. Apparently, tracks must be checked to be available for Party Shuffle, but you'd never know that from the "Creating a custom mix using Party Shuffle" entry in iTunes Help. There's no mention of that critical step at all. So that solves the mystery as to why I continued to receive that dialog box telling me that my source selection did not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle. Yeah, no kidding: 'Cause I hadn't selected any tracks in the first place! Thanks a lot, whoever wrote that incomplete iTunes Help entry on how to use Party Shuffle. What a waste of time, frustration, and anxiety, all because of some poorly written documentation... sigh

  • Party Shuffle Not Updating

My party shuffle playlist is empty. It does not fetch new songs from my library, and pressing the shuffle button does nothing to add new songs to the list. I've got it set to 15 songs for both past and upcoming songs.
I can play songs in party shuffle by right clicking on them in the library and selecting play next in party shuffle. Once the song is done though the music stops.
    Can someone help?

What version of iTunes are your running? There was a glitch in 7.0.1 re: Party Shuffle. Version 7.0.2 fixed this issue.

  • Party shuffle and general shuffle doesn't work

I don't quite understand. I select a playlist to shuffle within party shuffle to listen to while I program software at work. Often, I will hear the same song over again within an hour. This playlist has 659 songs with an average length of about 4-5 minutes. I've messed with the "Smart Shuffle" settings after Steve Jobs reassured consumers that iTunes is random but still no luck. I can't imagine how I hear the same song within an hour when there is over 48 hours of potentially non-repeating music. Has anyone had luck with getting true randomness from iTunes?
    Thanks!

    Jeremy--
What you're seeing is random behavior. In truth, you should sometimes even hear the same song back to back, if iTunes is truly mathematically random. To get the behavior you are looking for, you need to actually make it less random.
The easiest way to do what you want is to make a Smart playlist. Set it so that its rule is "Last Played is not in the last 30 days" (or whatever time period you like). Make sure "Live Updating" is checked.
Now, use that playlist as the source for your party shuffle. Once a song is played, it won't play again for 30 days.

  • How do I get iTunes to stop cycling through all my songs?? I want to listen to them not watch them fly by without a sound!

I click on a song and iTunes just starts shuffling through all my songs without stop. I can't use it at all! This just started when I got the iPhone 5 so I am imagining it is a software issue but I am current and still have the problem. Are there any fixes out there?

    Do you have iTunes Match?
If so, when does your subscription expire?  There have recently been a fair number of problems with the early adopters of iTunes Match having problems as iTM attempts to auto-renew the subscription.  Fixing this requires actual involvement of an Apple Tech Support person.
What you're describing was exactly the behavior I experienced when Apple mistakenly cut off my iTM account last weekend.

  • Party Shuffle in iTunes 7 not shuffling

I've noticed that when I'm listening to music on my computer with the party shuffle function, it works fine for a short time before it starts sending the songs I just listened to to the end of my shuffle list and tries to cycle them through again in the exact same order. Then when I check my library to see what song just played, it displays all incorrect songs. Is anyone else having this problem?

Party Shuffle is designed to select tracks for you, you can 'tune' it with the option to choose higher rated tracks more often.
It sounds like you need to create your own playlist, put some cross-fade and off you go.
If you absolutely have to have the tracks in Party Shuffle (I can't imagine why) then you can go through your library, command-click each track you want and select 'Play Next in Party Shuffle' - this will fill your Party Shuffle (in reverse order). I'm not in front of an iTunes at the moment but I think there's another Party Shuffle option in there?
Be careful, if you click 'refresh' in party shuffle it will wipe this list.
