ITunes and iPhoto no longer sharing

We just replaced one Linksys 4-port router for another one almost identical. I did no configuration to the router, just plugged it in, reset it a few times, and it worked. I connect to my ISP via DHCP, so no settings required.
Now, none of our iTunes or iPhoto libraries will share over the network. We can see each other's computers by clicking on Network in the Finder, so it's clear we're connected. None of the settings in iTunes or iPhoto have changed; they still are set to share libraries.
Any suggestions?

You're right about Port Forwarding... it's for incoming stuff!
Not that this is what you need, but the Ports are...

I was thinking more of something that needed turning OFF... some Firewall or DMZ thingy... it seems some Ports are closed or redirected, but being at home now with a terrible Dial-up connection that took about 5 minutes to just load this reply page... it'd be quiker for me to wait 'till the stores open and go buy one to figure it, than to D/L that 5+MB PDF again!

  • How do I share my itunes and iphoto libraries with other users (accounts) ?

    Hi !
I am trying to share my itunes and iphoto libraries with other users on my powerbook, but I seem to have problems with it.
What is the best way to do it?
Place an alias in my "shared" folder and access this with the applications from the different accounts ? This seems to workt for the itunes library, at least... Or do I have to mess with the righs managent ?
I dont want screw up my nice mac...
Thanx for the help in advance.

Hi... and thanx for your help...
I did not think that I would have to mess with my firewall, as long as I am talking of useres on the same computer, but I guess I was wrong.
Your advice helps very much, but only as long as I am still logged in with my user name. I does not work when only my kids are logged in. There has to be a way to use these libraries without the need to log in the user that has created those folders...
    Hmmm
    Thanx for your help

  • I would like to connect an external hard drive to my time machine and use it as a network drive to store itunes and iPhoto  how do i do this

I have just purchased a new my book hard drive and would like to connect it to my time capsule and store my itunes and iphoto contentent there to free up space on my internal hard drive . Can this be done and what is the process?

I'd like to store my Aperture /IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive.
That is fine and recommended.. use the fastest disk you can afford.. ie Thunderbolt>USB3>FW800>USB2.
In addition, I'd like to partition the external hard drive so that Time Machine can use it to both back up my IMac and the external library drives.
Let me be clear.. you want to partition the one disk.. use it for TM and move your files to the external disk.. and then backup to the same disk.. You can do it.. but that is not a backup.. that is an experiment in how long you can get away with running files and backups on the same disk before you lose everything.. like Russian Roulette.. pull the trigger enough times and laws of probability will do you in.
You must have backups on a different disk .. otherwise it is pointless.
Can I set up a RAID 5 format for redundancy?
No.. you can buy special USB and Thunderbolt external drives that support RAID..
BUT that is still not a backup.. let me show why.. you make a silly move and corrupt your file in aperture.. it is not that rare.
Raid will corrupt all copies of the files.. it is replicated across all disks.
Delete a photo it is deleted across all disks.. you have no recovery.
Alway, always consider RAID system one disk.. backup onto another disk.. and if the photos or movies are at all important to you.. ie your family .. make another copy and store in a relatives house.. There is no such thing as too much redundancy.

  • Multiple libraries iTunes and iPhoto

Probably this is an item that Apple has to resove, but just put this remark in public as some people did before by addressing the problem.
I love to use iTunes and iPhoto, but the most irritating failure of the program is that it has no possibillities for multi database contents (multiple libraries). Result: My harddisk is filled and filled with music and photo's and is getting so much overfilled that I had to stop using these programs on my PowerBook although that is the place I love to use iTunes from as I carry my music with me. I can write things on external CD's of DVD's, but as I do so, and I deleted the topics from my harddisk, it is no longer part of the library. I am not able to put a library on a cd or other harddisk and use it on my laptop, not taking all the diskspace I need for other work. As I want to use music, let's say from a CD that I bought, the music is imported and again my hard disk is filled again for some Mb's again. It would be convenient, also for organizing al the Gigabites of data if you could make different libraries for different ocasions. Libraries that I can put on my laptop if I want to use it. Make connection out of iTunes and use it. Like putting a huge CD in my laptop. Wouldn't it be crazy if I had to create a startup FireWire Harddisk just to use these programs? Another partition would not work as that is still on the same harddisk.
Bill Gates, make this issue work of behalf of a lot of people that want to keep control over their own hard disk content. Regular databases like FilemakerPro also don't tell you to put all your data in one library organizing them from there.

I haven't tried this yet, but I had a similar question and eventually found the suggestion to try
    http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/ituneslibrarymanager.php
to create multiple libraries. This doesn't solve your iPhoto problem, although my guess is that if this works for iTunes, someone could also write a script for iPhoto, too.

can i sync my mac pro with my mac book?  i mainly want to do this for iTunes and iPhoto?  I also have an iPad and an iPhone.

Do you have a local network setup either wired or wireless? If so, then have both computers connected to the network. Enable File Sharing on both computers in Sharing preferences. Select the startup drive on each computer. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and check the box labeled, Shared Folder.
You can now keep both computers in sync by using a third-party backup/sync utility that will work with a network setup such as:
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    Silver Keeper
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    Synchronize Pro! X
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup

  • Beachball for Itunes and Iphoto :-(

    Hi all,
everytime when I startup Iphoto or Itunes on my Macbook and want to scroll, I get the beachball for a couple of minutes...
I turned off sharing but doesnt help. When I stop the program and restart it (not the computer), same story...
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks!

My guess is that since the problem seems to be interrelated to WiFi, your iTunes and iPhoto are searching for other programs in the area (via the WiFi) to share information with. Try removing all sharing abilities from iTunes and iPhoto before starting them up next time, assuming you can even access them.
    Hope that helps!

  • Migrating iTunes and iPhoto

    Hi,
My wife was lucky enough to get an insurance replacement for her old MacBook when she fried the logic board. We got the HD back and I want to copy over her iTunes and iPhoto to the next MacBook. I've bought a usb case and linked it all up ok and then went to use Migration Assistant. The problem is that MA's spinny wheel just starts spinning and won't stop at the point of 'calculating size'.
Is there an easy way for me to copy these two folders over to my wife's new MacBook. We've not got any files on the new MacBook yet so can overwrite etc or even wipe clean and start a fresh if needs be.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm a little confused. You're posting in the Snow Leopard forum, but your profile says you're running Tiger. What was the MacBook running?
Still, you should be able to copy via the Finder, unless some things are damaged in a way that Disk Utility can't detect.
I'd be inclined to let it run as long as you can; if it eventually quits or freezes, see what did and didn't copy; perhaps you can then copy some or all of the remainder, in smaller groups.
Depending on what versions of iTunes and iPhoto were on the disk, you may have to settle for copying as much of the raw data as possible, and importing it into iTunes/iPhoto on the new Mac.

  • I want to move my itunes and iphotos to my macbook pro

I would like to move my itunes and iphotos to my macbook pro from my G5. How do I do this? What cables will I need and what ports do I plug them into. Thank you for your help.

Connect the machines with an Ethernet cable, turn on File Sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences on one computer, and use the Connect to Server command in the Finder's Go menu on the other, or use a FireWire cable and start up one computer with the T key held down. In either case, move the iTunes and iPhoto libraries from the Music and Pictures folders of your home folder from one computer to the other.

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

  • How do i restore my itunes and iphoto from time machine?

I backed up my iMac using Time Machine using an external drive, after purchasing a MacBook Pro. I now want to move my iTunes and iPhoto from this iMac time machine backup to my new MacBook, but I can't get past the "you can't open the application because it is in a time machine backup". I attempted to migration assistant and it said it moved all of my applications over, but the songs and photos from my old iTunes and iPhoto didn't transfer. How can I just ******* move the songs and photos to my new computer from my god **** external drive? Why does it have to be so complicated...

    Look at Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There are separate sections for iphoto and itunes.
It has to be so complicated because Apple made TM to do too much and be too many things to too many people.. a horse designed by a committee. It has become flakey in later editions.
If you still have the iMac you can move the files directly from the source.. you don't need to use TM backups at all.

  • How do I get iTunes and iPhoto to recognize my iPhone 4?

I have a MacBook Pro (version 10.5.8). I recently installed a new hard drive, battery, and had the Genius Bar reinstall my OS X. Now, iTunes and iPhoto don't recognize my iPhone 4 (version 5.1) when it's attached through the USB port. It simply doesn't show up in the left column of either program. Before the hard drive, battery and reinstall of OS X, I never had this problem.
I have tried restarting my phone and my computer, and looking for my iPhone in Image Capture, and none of these actions have worked.
    Help!

Update: I did this and it now recognizes my phone. But iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2) still does not recognize my phone. Any advice?

  • ITunes and iPhoto Crash! Not working.

Ok so 2 days ago i started getting problems with my Mac(10.6.2) (First time like ever!). I tried to start Firefox, it crashed on start up and i mean, it bounced and then NOTHING! I deleted the .plist file and restarted and it worked. Next, iPhoto went down, it wont start at all. Same thing, bounces in the dock and then nothing, not even a start screen.
I did the same, deleted plist files, even removing and deleting the library (i have all photos backed up so i just wiped the whole thing). I even used "iPhotoLibraryManager" and it didn't do anything, restarted, everything i can think of, still no iPhoto. I googled and googled and found page after page of things that didn't help one bit. Now to be honest i can life without iPhoto, but i NEED to have iTunes, thats not a option.
So next, iTunes now wont work, (9.1.1) it seems each day a new program is gone! Same as before, i click iTunes icon, it bounces and then dead. I looked up console messages and it is saying (for BOTH iTunes and iPhoto)
"[0x0-0x63063].com.apple.iTunes[810] dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Symbolication.framework/Versions/A/Symbolicat ion" "com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[93] (com.apple.ReportCrash[817]) Job appears to have crashed: Trace/BPT trap"
So it looks like the libraries are corrupt or something? This seems to be all im getting. Again, i tried rebuilding library, deleting itunes.plist and even deleting the program (and the whole itunes folder) and reinstall a new one from apple, i even made a new user account and logged in and same exact thing, bounce and dead!
Does anyone know ANYTHING that will help me? I seem to have tried everything!! I am lost without iTunes! Please help... :(:(:(

I would boot to your install disc that came with your computer, like you're going to reinstall. After you pick your language, choose Utilities from the menu bar, open Disk Utility, choose your regular boot drive on the left column, then Repair Disk. See if it turns up anything. Then it wouldn't hurt to Repair Permissions while you're in there. Any permission errors can probably be ignored.
Repair Disk can fix directory problems, up to a point. Hopefully your drive is OK.
I'd give it a try anyway.
Tried that now, and its still the same, just wont work!

My iPhone 4s is recognized by itunes and iphoto however it does not show up in finder under devices.

I don't agree - I have two IMacs and two iPhones - the iPhone 4S show up on one machine, but not the other.  They do show that they are charging, and a memory stick will open on the same USB ports.  So, I don't think this is how they are "supposed to work"......
