ITunes continuously re-opens

Hi,
This isn't much of a real problem as such but if there was a way to stop this from happening it would be much appreciated. Whenever I close down iTunes using the 'X' button in the corner it re-opens itself automatically between 3-5 times and then eventually after subsequent closings it stays exited. Is there anyway around this.
I'm using the latest version of iTunes for Windows XP and it happens when my 4G iPod is and isn't connected. Also happens both when and when there isn't a signal from my AirPort Express.
Thanks

The only program that I use which interfaces with
iTunes in such a way is MSN messenger when using the
'display which song I'm listening to' option. Though
iTunes will ask if it's ok to close if MSN is still
using the interface and I say yes.
Okay, now that's a bit unusual there...
I know how the MSN messenger song interface works, and how iTunes works, and the combination of the two really shouldn't cause iTunes to ask if it's okay to close.
The MSN Messenger song display functionality works by the player program (in this case iTunes) sending a message to a specific sort of window (in this case MSN) and telling it what song is playing.
The iTunes "ok to close" dialog box occurs when some other program is using iTunes COM interface and you try to close iTunes.
Now, as far as I know, iTunes tells MSN what song is playing, not the other way around. MSN doesn't access iTunes via the COM interface, to the best of my knowledge. I've written programs to talk to MSN (see the musikMSN plugin for musikCube), and I've written plenty of programs to interface with iTunes (dozens of scripts for starters), and all this leads me to think that there is some other program running which is hooked into iTunes, and it's not MSN.
The problem occurs
when MSN is and isn't in use though so would doubt
this is a problem?
This also agrees with my theory. When a program is talking to iTunes via the COM interface, iTunes starts up all by itself. If you closed iTunes, and some other program talked to it via COM again, iTunes would indeed start itself for no obvious reason.
So my bet is that there's some other program you are running that is talking to iTunes. I just don't know what it is. Like you said, FoxyTunes, the GD plugin, EvilLyrics.. there's plenty of other programs capable of talking to iTunes via COM.. Might take a look at what's running in the Task Manager and see if anything stands out.

    2. Application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Webkit.dll is not a valid Windows image.
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click Repair.
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post (although it's for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things):

  • ITunes won't open after I updated to 8.0.1

    Hello,
Here's a little background on what's been going with itunes before the recent problem. These past couple weeks I've tried to update my itunes to 8.0.1 through the Apple Software Update. It never worked and at the end of the process it would tell me to try again or do it manually. Also, I downloaded two new videos today that were already in the correct format. I added it to the itunes library with no problem and tried to convert the videos to the correct format just incase it wasn't. It gave me the message that the video was already in the correct format. When I tried to sync it with my ipod it told me the videos weren't in the correct format.
Ok so for the overall the main problem right now is itunes won't open at all. I manually downloaded the update and I restarted the laptop after I finished updating itunes. Since then, itunes won't open and continuously gives me this message "The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (-50)". I've restarted my computer a few times and looked up as many forums and solutions I could, but no luck. Please, if someone could help, let me know. Thank you.

  • My itunes will not open in Windows Vista, I have tried everything suggested on the apple website, there is some type of plug-in issue..can someone please help me?

    Hello,
I need help! My itunes will not open in Windows Vista. I have tried everything suggested by the apple website. Even when I open itunes in safe mode, it still will not allow me to continue. I am assuming when it says something about Plug-ins that has something to do with the problem. Can anyone help me?

Thanks King_Penguin for taking time to read and reply.
I just purchased this movie on Thursday, May 15, so just a few days ago.  I have never had any trouble whatsoever since I have been in Vietnam.  I have downloaded several movies and even music and they have all synced to my respected Apple products except for this purchase.
Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by studios and different versions.  Could you please explain?
I checked my purchased list in my purchase history under my account and there are no hidden items.

  • The iphoto and itunes will not open please help

on my Mac G5 the iphoto and itunes will not open can anyone help

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens?

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • ITunes will not open on win7 machine. It does under another user account, but not this specific one, although it is adminstrator and has access to everything. Please help.

User has all rights that I can see, set up as administrator.
O/S is Win7 and complete removal of iTunes and re-install of 64bit version.
Can not see the service running in task manager and no error message is given.
Have tried to run from .exe file and still nothing.
    Quicktime runs fine.
Have also deleted AVG on a temp basis in case that was stopping it.
Please, any advise would be greatly appreciated as the young lad I am looking at this for has not been able to use

    Thanks in advance

    Try this:
Start iTunes in iTunes Safe Mode:
    1.  hold down the Shift and Control key together and click to start iTunes.
    2.  when you see the iTunes icon in the task bar, click on it.
    3.  you will get a box that says "iTunes is running in safe mode.  Visual plug-ins you have installed have been termporarily disabled."   [I don't know what plug-ins I installed but you should clearly see that these so-called visual plug-ins are likely the cause of your issues];
    4. click Continue to open iTunes.
Now press your sync button and everything should work fine.

  • Running win 7 64 bit and itunes continues to stop working even after uninstalling repeatedly

I have windows 7 64 bit on my PC.  Itunes continuously stops responding and closes whenever I open itunes.  Whether it is to play music, plug in my iphone or ipod shuffle.  I have uninstalled itunes too many times to count and reinstalled it.  Every suggestion I have found online I have tried and I AM ABSOLUTELY FED UP.  This prob makes my use of iphone for music impossible and a real bummer. PLEASE HELP

-Re: Win 7 64 bit and SB Titanium X-FI Drivers? Sorry - no go - uninstalled the Creative apps and drivers again, uninstalled the MS High Definition Audio Device however it won't let me remove it's driver files (assuming as it's a nati've driver). Every time I uninstall it it wants to restart, every time I restart it's back again immediately. If I uninstall and don't restart, or even if I do, there's NO change to the MS Windows Update results even when forcing a recheck. I'm really stuck.
If I try to li've with the MS HDAD driver with the Li've Titanium in the PC, if I plug anything into the front, to doesn't detect it's there - if I place anything in the back same again. If I remove the headphones it seems ready to accept something? . It's all back to front.
The only time I could get the MS HDAD driver to do anything was with the onboard sound device turned on and the Titanium X-FI removed. Please note that no driver other than the MS HDAD has been loaded on the system for the onboard sound and it is definately turned off at this stage and during testing the X-FI.
I'm going to have a play in Safe Mode, but currently all roads lead to fail.

  • ITunes keeps on opening up

I find it annoying. I eject the ipod from iTunes, then close out the program. A few seconds later, it recognizes the iPod again and re-opens. This happens sometimes 3 or 4 times. Does this happend to anybody else? I don't mind it recognizing it when I plug the iPod in, but when I close it, it should stay closes. Is there a setting for this? THanks,
    T

Ok...this is happening to me too. It just started today. Usually, after my iPod opens iTunes I can just quit iTunes and it will stay closed. Today, after a few minutes I hear my iPod click a few times and then iTunes opens again on my computer.
I just want to charge my iPod. No need for the program to be open, or for the extra stress of continuing to open my iPod hard drive.

I've rebooted laptop and tried signing out of itunes and it still happens. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this stop??

While it is clearly the wifi syncing that is causing it, the device almost never shows up in the device list, and I've already unchecked that box.  I have two devices that I'd love to wifi sync, but neither show up today on the device list, despite iTunes continually popping up every 5 minutes or so.  Buggy...

    Hi Kori,
Close all apps: Double click on the Home button, then swipe up on the mini screens displayed above each open app.
Reset your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your iTunes will open.

  • How do i cancel my iTunes Match subscription when iTunes will not open on my computer anymore?

I recently deleted some programs on my computer, several of which I probably shoudn't have, and no iTunes will not open or function at all on my computer. I do not wish to continue using iTunes as I have switched phones, therefore I do not want to be automatically resubscribed to iTunes Match when this subscription ends. The only way I see iTunes working again on my computer requires several hours of searching through .dll files, and a complete system restore as a last resort, but I really dont want to do that just to install a program I dont want to cancel a service I no longer need, then uninstall that program. Is there any way to do this through apple support, online, etc...? It seems so easy to do, I just dont see any options anywhere.
    Thanks

    Hello ktkayaker
In order to cancel iTunes Match, you would need to do within iTunes. Try just creating a new user and then see if iTunes opens up so you can cancel it. I have provided other article that will give some troubleshooting steps to resolve your issues.

Many thanks. If you're still not launching after your complete uninstall/reinstall, we'll go searching for old QuickTime componentry stashed in non-standard locations on the PC.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Info.lib file:

    3. If that fails, repair your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.
