  • Converting from .acsm to epub using ADE 3

I have updated to ADE 3 and have had nothing but problems. The latest problem is When trying to convert an ascm file from Kobo, the Digital Editions does not launch to convert to an epub.  I wish I could go back to my old version of ADE but no luck.

It doesn't change the original file - it creates a new file in the new format. Check where your file destination is set to in the Audio Converter screen.

  • ITunes ePub Checker

I am trying to load a book into Apple iTunes, and their checker gave me the following errors (each multiple times with different file names):
ERROR  ITMS-9000: "Invalid URI in manifest OEBPS/images/Laffer curve_fmt.jpeg :  Illegal character in path at index 19: OEBPS/images/Laffer  curve_fmt.jpeg" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)
ERROR  ITMS-9000: "Invalid URI in NCX file OEBPS/Title Page.xhtml : Illegal  character in path at index 11: OEBPS/Title Page.xhtml" at Book  (MZItmspBookPackage)
Any ideas out there on how to fix the problem, or even what the problem is?  Thank you!

I appreciate the responses!  I got the problem fixed on one book - Just made every file one word and there by took care of the problem.  However, I do have multiple books I am working on and am looking for a long term solution for the Automatic TOC.  How do I create one using the Chapter Titles without any underscores.  I konw to check "Suppress File Name" when exporting, but what about Title Page, Copyright Page, or other files that do not contain the same paragraph style as the chapters?.  Does this make sense?  i.e.
file name = title_page   - no visible title in the same font as the chapter titles  -   TOC entry = Title Page
file name=copy_right   - no visible title in the same font as the chapter titles   -   TOC entry = Copyright Page
file name=the_crooked_arrow   - Chapter Title = The Crooked Arrow  -                TOC entry = The Crooked Arrow
I understand that hidden layers will not work in CS4 and the hyperlink function (for the manual TOC) do not work.
THANK YOU AGAIN for all of the help!

  • Only one epub file will not open in ADE or on my Nook. The others I downloaded will open on both and will copy to the Nook as usual.

I download epub books from Overdrive. Only one epub file will not open in ADE on my Mac or on my Nook. The many others I've downloaded will open on both and will copy to the Nook as usual. Using the latest edition of ADE. Could be a corrupted ePub file? Curiously, this is the second time I've downloaded this epub from the same site, and I had no problem the first time. It still has 9 days remaining in the borrowing period.

Forgot to make clear that on both my Mac and the Nook, attempting to open the epub causes ADE to crash.

  • InDesign CS5.5 EPUB export not showing cover image in Adobe Digital Editions

I have a document that I am trying to ensure is reflecting the cover image prior to uploading to several EPUB sites like google and Barnes and Noble. I am using Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, Firefox (EPUBReader) to do the troubleshooting on the document. Calibre shows the cover image Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) does not. Are their any known problems with ADE not reflecting the cover image that I need to be aware of before I continue working on this?
The ADE help says the following:
"Once the items are in your library, there are two ways to view the content of any bookshelf. You can view thumbnails of your items. The thumbnail is the cover page of the item (or just the first page if it doesn't have a cover page). In this view, you see the set of thumbnails and some information about each item (author, title). You can also sort the order in which the items are shown by author, title, date created, number of pages, and so forth."
Here is basic informaiton. I have a cover page in my export to EPUB but ADE will only show the first page. Again Calibre shows the cover page.
    CS 5.5
The project is a book (indb) composed of multiple documents (indd)
Exporting as book as an EPUB
On general tab I am "Use existing image"
I am rasterizing the first image in Indesign via the "Object - Object export options" but I am not selecting that option when on the general tab of the Export to EPUB options. I am chosing a file from my disk. I thought that maybe the file name was too long but I changed the image to "cover.jpg" and reexported it but it still does not work.
Here are the contents of the content.opf file with all the pointers. I have updated the file as I believe you can tell with guides, creation date, etc....
    It passes the SIGIL check.
The image name is Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg. It is 300 dpi and 1650 x 2550. I could also cut in the one that I did for cover.jpg but it only replaces the file name.

I have also been trying to get this cover image to display on PC for NOOK but it appears that everyone is having hits problem too. I have followed some trouble shooting guides and renamed the jpg image, Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg to cover.jpg but that doesn't seem to work either for NOOK.
Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am new to InDesign (I know you probably hate hearing that, but I have gotten so close to being done overcoming all the new user hurdles). I think this is my last one before uploading to the appropriate sites - PS. I got the cover page to show up on the Kindle but not Adobe's own product.
    Thanks

ebookjunkie, I have just used InDesign to publish two very short "books" (.99 cent variety) and started this thread with the first question. Look to Bob for the expert advice. This is neophyte advice from someone moving from publishing a full book using Word to EPUB/Kindle and now using InDesign to publish to EPUB/Kindle.
First ADE is useless. I say this out of frustration of trying to use it to troubleshoot problems and it has so many problems in displaying an EPUB that you spend a lot of time troubleshooting ADE issues rather than EPUB problems. The problems are not limited to but won't display a cover page properly, text wrapping is iffy, Drop caps a problem, bringing over supported items like drop caps, all small caps, etc.... are also issues as best I can tell. Humble opinion is delete off your desktop. I use the following to troubleshoot my EPUB's/Kindle books on my Windows platform; Calibre, Barnes and Noble's Nook for PC and iPhone iTunes for EPUB (Sigil to look for errors); and for Kindle, Kindle previewer and Kindle for the PC. Even after doing this, I just today saw my book a buyer's Android "Reader" and the pictures did not display at all. So it is publish once and test everywhere! Unfortunately, you just can't test all the possible devices and iterations of readers. (I am from IBM and we couldn't do it, so how publishers are supposed to figure it out is beyond me!)
On the absolutely great news end, you will see a lot of problems about placing images on the iPad with a lot of workarounds. They apparently (Apple) have fixed this as my two publications show images nicely now on both the iPhone and iPad with the iTunes bookshelf/reader. They were "microdots" when viewed previously. I did nothing to fix it and was just not going to publish to the iPAd and just tested them a few weeks ago and they display perfectly. So Apple has fixed the problem. If it looks good on the Nook for PC, it should look good on the iPAD/iPhone now as best I can tell.
    Cheers

  • Hyperlinks in ePub output

    Hi all,
currently Robohelp includes hyperlinks into the ePub output but when the user clicks them they produce errors (at least with Adobes own ePub reader ADE). Because the output files are contained in an archive it may not be possible to link to other topics at all but then why does RoboHelp include internal hyperlinks at all if they do not work?
It seems awkward to tag all paragraphs which contain hyperlinks with conditional build tags and then remove them from output just to avoid errors. Is there a more elegant solution?

After checking, I have to correct myself. Evidently it is rather a problem with language-specific characters (ä, ß) in file names. These topics cannot be viewed using the TOC either. If I insert a standard hyperlink to a topic that has no such character in its file name, then all is well. The problem is that these file names are generated automatically by Robohelp when a Word document is imported.
I might issue a request about this in the feature request form.
    @Praful Jain:
    1. RH9, older versions dont support ePub I think.
    2. Correctly, these are topic within the project.
    3. In case you are still interested please tell, but I think its a different problem now altogather as described above.

  • Embeddable Fonts for EPUB?

I'm using ID CS6 to create EPUBs. When I try to export anything other than the usual Times New Roman, or other basic fonts, the fonts don't show up in the exported EPUB.
For instance, I've tried using Minion Pro, Warnock, Lucida, etc. and all I get at the other end is either a bizarre substitution, or Times New Roman.
Every paragraph and character in my ID docs is assigned a paragragh or character style, which includes export tagging, and usually a class. I've had people on forum boards tell me I'm foolish for assigning classes, but how else are you supposed to distinguish between two h2 styles with different attributes?
Rather than place text from Word, which I've noticed imports a host of other problems on export, I copy the text into a simple text editing program, make it plain text, then copy and paste into ID, then apply styles to format. The embed fonts checkbox is checked when exporting.
What am I missing? What qualifies as an embeddable font? I should mention that I am viewing the epub in ADE. Could this be the problem?
Update: Just noticed that none of the character styles I've tagged as span are coming through either. The em and strong character styles work, but nothing tagged span will be properly styled in the EPUB. I even tried applying styling to characters without creating a style and it doesn't work. For instance, SMALL CAPS come through as small caps.

What are your export settings? Where are you viewing the EPUB? Have you cracked it open to see if there is a fonts folder? Does the CSS show the proper font.
Finally, nothing wrong with a class if it has a purpose. For main body text you can use a p tag without a class. If the first paragraph after an h2 has a special format you can use h2+p to create that stylinging in the css. Of course, this assumes a knowledge of CSS and the willingness to crack open the EPUB to work on it.

  • Problem with reading NOOK from ADE

I finally figured out how to authorize my Nook so that I can transfer a library EPUB from ADE to my Nook, but whatever gets copied is not readable on my Nook.  I do not have this problem with my XP computer, which I can no longer go online with, but I have this problem with my 8.1 Windows computer.  Help!

    hi,
    - you can use NFS (if the file is accesible from the XI server)
    via shared folder
    - you can use FTP but your XI server must be able to log on to this FTP server
    - if you use FTP from your local machine the same applies
(your XI server must be able to log on to this FTP)
so try checking firewall settings and connection with your admins first to find out if someone
can log on from the XI server machine to your FTP servers

    Hello Community,
I am working with InDesign CC 2014.1 and Adobe Digital Editions 4 (ADE).

ADE is not a very good FXL EPUB reader. Try iBooks, Readium for Chrome or Kobo.

  • Adobe Digital Editions Quit Unexpectedly

    Hi there,
I can't open my book from Abode Digital Editions. When I go to Adobe Digital Additions Library and click on the book I purchased, a box pops up saying, "Adobe Digital Editions quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Then when I click on the "Reopen" button, I am automatically taken back to the Adobe Digital Editions Library where the cycle repeats itself. I have seen multiple reports of this same issue from other users in this form. I have called Adobe for support and can't seem to find an answer so far. I would LOVE to have this sorted out so I can use my Kobo and read the books I have purchased. Anyone out there in internet land who can help me, I would appreciate this sooooooo much.
    Thank you!

Same problem here.  I downloaded and installed ADE 4.0.3 just to check out a library e-book using DRM on my Mac OS X Yosemite.  ADE crashed every time I attempted to open that book with a memory address exception.  I had no problems opening the default book that comes with the reader though.  Looked at iTunes reviews of ADE and Mac users have been complaining about this serious bug since February!  What a major fail by Adobe.
I took the suggestion in this thread of downgrading to ADE 3.0.  I still had the library's e-book in my library but was now getting a E_ACT_NOT_READY error each time I tried to open it.  After some googling, I figured out I needed to reset my authorization token by doing Command-Shift-D.  But after regenerating my authorization token, I got a E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER error.  Now I think I need to get the library to reset the authorization token for the book since my token has changed.  I dropped them a note informing them Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.3 doesn't work on Yosemite and asked them to reset the authorization.  I've removed the book from my ADE library and will hopefully be able to download and start reading it next week.

  • IBooks removed "Category" from all PDF's.

In iTunes, ePub books and PDF books were grouped into Categories. Any one Category had a mix of ePubs and PDF's.    iBook put all PDF's into "Uncategorized".  How do I restore Category to PDF"s so that ePubs and PDF's can be in the same category?  The "Fiction" category should contain both ePub documents and PDF documents.

This can be done using a combination of an Action and a script. The script in the Action will collect the paths of the files you want to process and the folder-level script will extract the first page from each file and generate a new PDF from it. You don't need a plugin for this task, so you don't really need the SDK.

  • Embedded TTF font not working

    Hi everybody.
In the first place, thank you. In the other hand, sorry for all my possible English mistakes.
I have made several ePubs (validated in epubcheck and FlightCrew) with embedded fonts and all of them have always worked fine in ADE 1.7.2.
However, the same ePubs in ADE 1.8. preview are failing. I don`t know why, but the text with the embedded font is not being displayed at all.
What has been changed that I'm missing it?

This problem has been solved in the new preview version.
    Thanks!

For several months I read my purchased e-books (epub) on ADE. Now I have authorized my computer for the first time.
That worked out well everything. Now I tried an e-book on my computer (Mac) to open it and get the message:

How can this be and how can I read the e-book again?
