ITunes freezes when downloading video

I have twice purchased TV episodes through iTunes. I was changed each time but no download took place. Each time, iTunes froze as the download was to start and had to be force quit. Selecting "check for purchases" in the advanced menue of iTunes causes the same freeze. I emailed tech support 5 days ago but have not received a reply.

My iTunes freezes lately no matter what kind of content I am downloading after purchase (audio or video). The progress bar starts up, and withing about 2 or 3 seconds, freezes. I've tried trashing my iTunes preferences, and have run the disk utility, but nothing I've done has corrected the problem.
Has anyone come up with a solution?

  • ITunes crashes when downloading video. HELP!!!!

I have a pc and itunes 6. I want to download video podcasts, but every time I try to download one, iTunes will freeze and the Windows error come up. It worked before I installed service pack 2, but now it doesn't. Can someone halp me please?!

If Zevoneer's suggestion didn't work you can try just
clearing your whole library by pressing Ctrl+A & Del,
then adding it again by going File>Add folder to
library and add the folders you want.
If that still doesn't work (it doesn't let you clear
the library), uninstall then reinstall iTunes. That
    should clear the library.
Well, looks like the simplest solution was the correct one. I tried to delete my library but it crashed when it got to the problem line item. So I ended up reinstalling iTunes and the line item was successfully deleted. (Now I get to recompile my library of 7400 songs and 200 videos. I'll get back with ya'll next month!)
Thanks for all the help everyone!

  • ITunes freezes when playing video.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Let me start by saying I've seen many others complain about this with mostly no resolution.
To elaborate, when initiating any video in iTunes (be it a movie, TV show, music video, or iTunes Store preview), the application immediately hangs. No errors -- iTunes just stops responding and can only be closed by killing its process. I've tried all the solutions people hash out time and again to no avail. This has been happening since iTunes 10, and ever since I've been playing all its videos through QuickTime (which works perfectly).
In Safe Mode, however, a black box appears briefly (as if the video's about to play), before a Windows "iTunes has stopped responding" prompt comes up. Not only that, but I also get two error logs in Event Viewer:
    Application Error:

I don't know how helpful these logs are, but I've never seen anyone post anything similar when reporting this issue. Microsoft's link in the second one's header tells you to install a "newer" version of iTunes 64-bit even if you have the newest one (and I've done it with no improvement). In one post, iTunes wouldn't play video for somebody until they were told to uninstall Klite Codec Pack. This was the only time I came across this suggestion, and, having Klite, did it too, but with no improvement. iTunes still hangs when trying to play video, it crashes "properly" with a Windows prompt when trying to play video in Safe Mode, and QuickTime works fine (which I guess is my only solution).
Some insight from Apple would be appreciated. This has been happening since iTunes 10, so I consider the problem to be on iTunes' end rather than my system's, which has by and large been a constant the whole time.

Codec packs are notorious for causing iTunes problems.
Try searching c:\windows\SysWOW64 for files with Quicktime in the name.
    There should be just two:
    Quicktime.qts
    QuicktimeVR.qtx
If there are any other files or folders, try dragging them to the desktop ot any temporary folder.
    Does that make any difference.
After doing that, do you have the latest Quicktime installed, if not update it.

Earlier versions of Quicktime can upset iTunes.

  • ITunes Freezing when downloading new verison

When the latest update came up, I downloaded. Then when I pulled up ITUNES it froze, it would recongise our IPODS nor would it work, so I uninstalled.  I am not trying to install it again from the APPLE site and again FREEZE! I am using Google Chrome

I am having the same problem. My computer is lightning fast and is working fine with everything else. I have imported roughly 500 cd's and it just all of a sudden started freezing my whole computer up when i try to import. I have no solution for you. I just wanted it to be known that other people are having this problem.

  • ITunes freezes when editing video metadata

    Hi,
So I am trying to organize my video library and to do so I need to edit the metadata for the video files. When I do this, iTunes just stops responding.
All my video files are located on my server.
I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes to try and fix this.
Tried googleing for an answer for awhile but no luck.
Anyone know a fix to this?

  • ITunes freezes when locating video on externa HDD, and Finder dies together

To save my Mac's hard disk space, I move all of my iTunes videos to an external hard disk. As a result, iTunes won't be able to locate the files and will prompt me to locate them. No issue there.
In the file dialog box (set to column view), I can navigate to the folder containing the videos. But as soon as that folder is open, the dreaded spinning beachball appears and iTunes becomes unresponsive. Originally, I thought that it's because it's trying to load the video thumbnail, but after leaving iTunes alone for hours with no result, I can only conclude that it's simply crapped out.
Force-quitting iTunes restores some sanity. But this problem also locks up my hard disk. I can't eject it as normal, and Finder's Force Eject just produces another spinning beachball.
If I unplug my hard disk without ejecting, Finder gives its standard warning that I shouldn't have done that. But the external hard disk icon still shows in Finder. Force-quitting Finder won't restart Finder, in fact, it gives another error (an error code is provided, but I don't recall what it is now).
The only solution then is to restart my Mac.
    What's the problem with iTunes?

Slightly different but related problem here. I have all my music, audiobooks and videos/movies/TV shows in an iTunes folder on an external hard disk, which I've pointed iTunes at. Anything imported is automatically stored there. I've just discovered that clicking on the "Music Videos" smart playlist crashes iTunes and locks up the machine completely, so completely that the keyboard command for Force Quit won't work and the only solution to get the computer back is to force a shut down by holding the power button down (This is on the iMac). However, I can play all the content in that smart playlist if I find it through the main library, or the TV Shows/Movies parts of the library. Any ideas?

    What Windows version?

  • Upgraded to 10.5 on windows 7.  now itunes freezes when trying to download old apps.  any solutions?

10.5 upgrade erased apps & books from ipad.  itunes freezes when trying to download from windows 7 computer.  Any suggestions?

I am using Window Vista 32bit and have the same problem. After trying uninstall, reinstall, ccclean registry, over and over again and still cannot install itune 10.5. And finally concluded that this might be a registry corruption problem. The following steps is what I did to fix the registry isssue and get my itune 10.5 installed.
    - Run Window update - and check the history file, if you see some failures in previous updates, there is something wrong with the registry.
    - un-install all the apple related software (itune, safari, boujour, apple update, etc).
    - For Vista 32bit, go to the following link and run the script to clean up the registry. I am not sure if other WIndow OS will work or not.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error-8000FFFF
    - run the Fix-it script. you have to select the Agressive mode (even thou the pop up window advise not to do this)  in order to clean up the registry. When I try without checking the box, and it did not fix the problem.
    - reboot PC
    - Run window update. It will discover a lot of old updates that need to be installed (I suspect that the fix it script delete a lot of stuff in the registry and removed previous updates). I got 53 updates that need to install.
    - run the update and wait for a longtime (mine took ~2 hours).
    - reboot PC
    - run cccleaner
    - reboot PC
    - install itune 10.5
Now it works. Hopefully other window OS has similar step to fix this. I can only say it works for me using window Vista 32bit. and so far, my PC works correctly.

Okay, you need to contact support definitely about what's going on. Here is a form that will send an e-mail into support for you:
    http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
As far as the prices, the difference is likely the laptop version is the SD version and the iPad one is available in HD. That's the only reason you'll see a price difference. It has nothing to do with the device with movies/movie rentals. Apps yes, these no.

  • HT203200 How can i solve the -50 error when downloading video from itunes??

How can I solve the -50 error when downloading video from itunes.   The apple support people cannot even figure it out!??

The 2330 error often means some sort of damage to the filing system as might happen if the battery fell out while the disk was in use.
Try running a disk check to see if it finds and fixes any errors.

  • ITunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod (classic, 160GB)

I JUST got my new MacBook and iPod like 3 days ago and now all of a sudden iTunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod.
It's very annoying considering I never had this problem w/my old MacBook or my old iPod and this stuff is brand new!
I know a lot of people have similar problem. Did ANYONE find out what to do with it? Or do I have to drive to Apple Store again?
    Thank you!

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Itunes freezes when burning CDs

Similar post to others here. Since upgrade to IT 6, Itunes freezes when trying to burn some CDs. IT shows as "not-responding" in task manager. Seems to happen when burning CDs with newly downloaded tracks, perhaps in combination with imported tracks. I've tried several suggestions posted here.
    - I uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes and Quicktime
    - Installed updated BIOS, chipset, and CD R drivers
    No luck.
Sometimes if I wait 3-5 minutes it will start the burn. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Log follows.

    Help! Any suggestions?
    first let's try a
    b repair install.
go to your add/remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
if no joy with that, let's try working through some of the other usual suspects:

  • My itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....help!!

I have installed the new update (Windows 8 64 bit)  & my itunes freezes when I connect my ipod.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
