ITunes Store- buying "protected files"

i want to use the song i just bought in imovie but i cannot convert it because the song is a "protected file". imovie needs an AIFF or MP3 so if i cannot convert the M4P then why do i want to buy it from itunes!? Is there a way to get it unprotected for converting it to imovie before or after i purchase the song?

Thanks for the help. I did try that, and then i ran into problems with imovie. It would work while i was making the movie, but after exporting my movie, the sound was not there. i used trail and error to see what it was, and i only find audio problems exporting my movies when i have done the "burned the song and re-impoted it, then converted" trick. So, this post was my attempt to see if there is a less tricky way of getting un-protected songs via itunes. thanks tho.

  • Error report form iTunes Store: Missing Nib File

After having uploaded the .zip-file to the iTunes Store (update of an existing app), I got the following error-report from the iTunes store: Missing Nib File - The referenced nib file "MainWindow.nib" was not found in the application bundle. Is it possible that this error occurred while creating the app in the Adobe app builder or where do I have to look for this error? The first uploading of the original app worked without an error. What do you recommend me?
Thank you very much for an answer.

    Hi mhmd.h,
There was a very recent update to the entire Apple website.
If you are still unable to connect to the App Store from your iPhone, please post again.

  • How do I know if the file I want to buy on the iTunes Store is "protected" or not?

I'd like to buy some music, but I want to make sure I can copy it to a regular MP3 player. Any ideas?

The iTunes Store hasn't sold protected music in a couple of years. Keep in mind that the iRunes store sells .aac files, not .mp3 files. Check to make sure that your player can handle them.

  • Itunes store downloads audio files in QuickTime format & no convert options

My wife's XP computer received audio files from ITunes store in Quick Time format. Can find no help in so-called "Help" files, right-click on downloaded song offer only "Convert to AAC". I've used Real Player to convert QT files to MP3 but this seems overly complicated. Any ideas?

Looks like I just had to change my preferences 3 or 4 times, and it finally shows the option to convert to MP3. I'll see how successful it is in converting while downloading. Thanks for the suggestions.
Also please note that if you are looking for MP3 files, it is easier to buy directly in MP3 format from an online music retailer who sells in MP3 format, such as the amazon.com MP3 download store.
MP3 format is compatible with iTunes/iPod and virtually every other player, program, and device.

  • How to disable itunes store when transferring files to ipod shuffle

    Hi,
I just started using my ipod shuffle a few days ago, using itunes on mac OS 10.4. To try it out, I used a handful of podcasts downloaded from the itunes store.
My problem is that whenever I try to move a file from my computer to my ipod shuffle, itunes seems to want to open up the itunes store (as declared by itunes in the top oval window) instead of showing the list of files on my shuffle. However, I've already disabled the itunes store through parental controls. My internet at home is rather slow at the moment, and it's annoying to have to close the blank "store" window each time I load something onto my ipod shuffle. Is there a way to disable the itunes store, specifically when I'm moving files to my ipod shuffle (in addition to using the parental controls)?

Provided the files were properly tagged then iTunes should pick up the data when the files are imported into the library. The main problem is usually any files in .wav format.
See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You seem to be most of the way there already but there are a couple of scripts mentioned near the end which you could use to recover ratings & playlists.

  • Parts of album in iTunes Store in different file formats

I bought double album in itunes store. Part of it is in .m4a format, and other part is in .m4p format. Why?

If it was an old purchase that your re-downloaded, the re-download will be in M4P if the original purchase was in M4P.
If it was a new purchase, you should be getting only non-DRM (M4A) files:
All iTunes Store music and music videos for sale now are in iTunes Plus format.
If that is not what you received, contact iTunes Customer Service and get it corrected:

  • Any way to change the location where itunes stores the backup files?

I am running low on my C: drive in XP. Any way to change the location where itunes stores the backups of my various devices?

i am currently in the same situation. i purchased an external hard drive and set itunes to save to it in the preferences, and this worked, but only for new additions. all of my current music still plays from my mac HD and not the external. i am assuming i will need to re-add every song. the only plus is that when i transferred my songs to the external, it saved my settings. hopefully it saves the play counts.

  • Odd Problem with iTunes store-buying an album

I'm trying to buy the Deluxe edition of Straight Outta Lynwood, but when I click on "Buy Album," it says I already bought it, and says to click "Ok" so I can download it. However, it doesn't download. I clicked on "Check for Purchases" in the menu, and it says that I don't have any undownloaded purchases.
I think I'm just gonna use the other computer to download, but I'm just wondering if this is a problem I can fix.

  • Cannot connect to the iTunes Store because of an unknown error (-42408)

Sometime - like about 3 times a week - when i sync my Ipod with itunes 9.0.3, I get a message saying that I am not authorised to play some songs on my iPod. I then have to authorise my computer for a previous apple ID. Usually, this authorisation fails with an error code 42408 when iTunes tries to connect to the iTunes store. I am using the correct (old) apple id and the correct password but get the message "we could not complete your iTunes stores request. An unknown error occurred (-42408)"
Can anyone shed any light on this and let me know what the solution is?
    Thanks

Thanks. Option 1 worked for me:
    1. Eject and disconnect the iPod/iPhone from the computer.
    2. Open iTunes.
    3. Find a protected song from the iTunes Store (Kind = Protected AAC audio file) in your library.
    4. Play the song.
    5. Connect your iPod/iPhone.
I hope Apple fix this soon - it's very irritating!

  • Song purchased from iTunes Store won't play on my computer

Several people have posted variations on this question but I haven’t been able to find a coherent explanation of, or fix for, the problem.
I have downloaded all my CDs into iTunes and synched them to my iPod. Everything downloaded from CDs plays fine.
I bought and downloaded one song from the iTunes store. It appears on playlists, but I cannot play it using iTunes. When I click on it I get the blue highlighting but nothing happens when I click on the “Play” arrow. (I can play it using Quick Time). My computer is authorized.
When I synch the iPod, I get the error message “(song) was not copied to the iPod (my iPod) because it cannot be played on the iPod.”
I noticed that the files copied from CDs are .m4a files and the file downloaded from the iTunes store that won’t play is an .m4p.
I think this is some kind of rights issue. Can anyone explain what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

The trick of deleting the song to the Recycle Bin, dragging it to the Desktop and then back into iTunes worked. My guess is that because our computer was not authorized at the time of the purchase (this was our first purchase from the iTunes Store), the original file downloaded in a protected format. The computer has since been authorized, so the Recycle Bin ruse tricks iTunes into thinking it's a new file. I would still like to hear a confirmation of this from someone who knows though. Also, Apple should tell people to authorize their computers before making any purchases. It will save some confusion it seems.
    Thanks for the tip.

  • Content purchased from iTunes store are downloaded but do not show up in library (iTunes 11) even after manual add

    Hi all,
I upgraded to iTunes 11 recently and have now purchased some additional content from the iTunes store. The files have been downloaded but do not show up in my library. A search yields some results but I cannot access the songs in my library nor can I add them to 'up next' although the option is available from the search results menu.
First thing I tried was to add them again manually but the problem persists. Any clues?
    Thanks and Best
    Frank

OK, I found a solution. Here it goes, just in case anybody else comes across this issue:
I deleted all the relevant entries from the iTunes Libary.xml AND iTunes Music Library.xml files (with iTunes closed, of course) and removed the files on the harddrive library structure to another location. I then restarted iTunes and added the album manually to my library again. In my case, I got iTunes to handle my library and the files were thus copied back to my old structure by the iTunes. To finish I reimported the album artwork and that was that.
Hope that I won't encounter this issue with future purchases under iTunes11, this workaround IS a bit of a hassle!
