ITunes to Garage Band?

I used to be able to drag songs from my itunes to garage band for mixing songs and my computer won't let me do that any more. Any ideas why & how to fix it would be greatly appreciated!!

None of my songs are available for use in garage band- even original cds that I imported into iTunes years ago. I also tried burning the song I need onto a cd and trying to pull it into garage band that way and it still wouldn't let me.
Help!

Well, all I can tell you is that if your file is an m4a with chapter markers, those markers having suitably sized images attached, and you drag it into the Music area of iTunes (so that it appears as a song) in List view, when you play it and then command-click on the small image in the header (next to the progress bar) you should see your embedded images.
If this isn't happening the best place to ask would be in the GarageBand forum: my own experience of GB is rather out of date and in any case I've never used it for podcasting.

  • Drag and drop music from itunes to garage band

After update my imac to Mac OS X Lion (and update iTunes do 10.4 - 64 bits) I can't no longer drag musics from iTunes do garage band.

You have to check the manually manage box in itunes:

    Hi
SlideShow in iDVD has a 99 photo limit - more than this and all sorts of error occures.
One can have more than one SlideShow on a DVD = X times 99 photos.
or assemble SlideShows in a movie editor (no limit at least not under 650 photos)
(only limit is Time in iDVD (movie time + MENU time --- 60 min or 120 min on SL-DVD and about twice on DL.-DVD )
    I use
    • iMovie up to HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
As they will give a better quality than iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 can do.

  • Can't Drag & Drop From iTunes to Garage Band

  • Using imic to transfer tapes to itunes via Garage Band

The problem is, the song file is way too big. Around 35-50MB
How can I make these files smaller?
Is there a way to compress them or import them differently.
Currently I am just using the 'import to itunes' choice from the Garage band 'file' which is convenient.
This is my first visit to a forum, so excuss the technically deficient language. It is a wonderful vehicle for sharing info. though and I am excited about learning more. Jayge

Duh! I swear that wasn't there when I looked before-okay it probably was and I missed it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer.

  • I'm trying to edit an mp3 from iTunes in Garage Band 10.0.1.

When I edit it and then share to iTunes, it shares the length of the previously existing track, not the edited one.  (For example, I edit a 5:00 min. track to :30, but when it gets shared in iTunes it's a 5:00 track again...with silence filling the last 4:30.)  No split track function in 10.0.1!
When looking for help, only answers I can find pertain to previous versions of GarageBand.
    Feeling VERY frustrated.

Command T  to split region at playhead.
You need to either set the end of song marker to where you want the song to end or turn cycle regions on and drag the marker over the song from where you want it to begin to where you wan tit to end.

  • I am trying to make a mix on Garage Band by dropping songs in the tracks from an ITunes playlist.  I have done this many many times and suddenly I am unable to drop the tracks into Garage band.  They swoosh right back into the iTunes playlist

Suddenly I am unable to transfer songs from iTunes to Garage Band.  When I try to bring the songs over to Garage Band they will not drop into the track.  They immediately go back into iTunes.  I have made many mixes using GB and cannot figure out what has happened.  Ive looked through system prefences, help window, etc. and cannot understand what has happened.  Any advice?

either use the Media Browser in GB, or drop the actual song file into the timeline (cmnd-shift-r will reveal the file from iTunes):

  • Editing tracks in garage band

I have been using Garage Band to create a sound track for a Keynote presentation. I imported a number of songs from iTunes into Garage Band and placed them in two tracks, using the volume controls on each track to transition from one song to another. In doing so, I ran into two issues.
    1) I got the timing of some of the musical pieces just right, but others were either too long or too short for the accompanying slides in Keynote. If one section was too long or too short, but other sections of the soundtrack were just right, there was no way to select the region representing all that was just right and move that either forward or backward on the timeline WITH the volume changes on the tracks. I could move the musical pieces, but then the volume changes that created the transition from one song segment to another were in the wrong place on the timeline.
    2) To deal with the first problem, I thought about making multiple copies of my Garage band project and then delete the segments before and after the segment that was correct. But if, for example, I want to use only the part of the project from 4:30 to 6:25 on the time line, there is no way to delete the first 4 and a half minutes and delete what comes after 6:30. I can remove everything before and after, but then I have a 4:30 segment with no sound before the segment I want.
It would seem that there should be an easy way to make this kind of edit in the program, but I couldn't figure out how. I'd appreciate any help.

    1. Indeed, when you move regions, the volume curves don't move with them - you have to do it by hand. It annoys a lot of people.
    2. Of yourse you can select all regions and pull them to the left so your song starts at 0:00. But again, the volume curves won't move with them.
To avoid this messing around, I'd suggest you first compose your music segments without volume curves, but with overlapping regions (you can shorten them so they only overlap where you later want to set the fade) and keep pushing them around until they fit your presentation. And do the crossfades only in the end when everything else is perfect.
