Itunes won't sync, won't backup, status of all devices are "other"

computer is a mac mini 2006 1.66 ghz core duo, 2 gb of ram, macmini 1,1. os x 10.6.8 , itunes 11.4
devices are running ios 8.1 , they can sync and backup perfectly fine to my mac book pro. but they haven't been able to sync or backup to my mac mini for over a month. when i plug the ipad and iphone in , sometimes i see the different sections, apps, videos, in different colors, but as soon as i click on backup the whole bar turns yellow. is there any way to clear all of itunes databases to clear this out?
maybe the reason why it won't work is becasue i encrypted the backup on the other mac? or the passcode was changed?? but i can still import pictures with iphoto
i dont think i have to restore the iphone. because its backing up to a different mac perfectly fine with no issues. . but the newer mac doesn't have the movies that are on the older mac's library
things i have tried
disable passcodes and find my iphone. i thought this would get past itunes not knowing the passcode
reset lockdown folder
delete itunes and delete mobile device helper and reinstall itunes
signing out and singing in to the apple store numerous times
making sure itunes login is the same on the iphone and ipad
i was going to try deleting the entire library and re-adding it. but i dunno if this will help with devices
then i was going to try erasing and reinstalling os x
but i thought i would ask here first.

i found out this is a bug in iTunes 11.4
if you have older machine and you are 32 bit and running snow leopard , iTunes is broken

Itunes won't backup my Iphone 3g 16Gb
Keeps on saying "A session could not be started with the Iphone"
but it do sync my apps,photos and music correctly.
Help is much needed as I need to make at least one backup of this Iphone.

You followed ALL of the instructions in that support article? You deleted your existing backups, disabled ALL security software, logged in as an Admin.?

ITunes won't launch after upgrade - says files are missing

I had trouble upgrading to version 6 but disabled my anti virus software (McAfee) and the upgrade seemed to run OK. After restarting my computer iTunes won't run as it says files are missing and I need to install them. It was all working fine before. I have over 4200 tracks and I'm worried I've lost them although they are all still on my iPod. What do I do next? Please help.

This has nothing to do with iTunes as iTunes provides no way to move or relocate the backup files.
A search of google or the fourms would reveal ways to create a folder link to relocate the physical location where the files are stored.

Am I'm the only one with this issue?
As I investigate the crash logs it appears that the contacts db is corrupted and that is what is killing the phone, contacts, and mail etc settings.
I have my contacts backed up several places so I'm not worried about losing them.
Anyone know how to wipe or recreate the contacts db on the phone via an attached PC?

ITunes won't backup iPad when syncing

I've had the iPad since May. Soon after, when syncing, the back-up phase seemed to stop progressing. iTunes hadn't frozen - it looks like its doing something... but the green bar stops moving.
When I click the little (X) on the itunes display, it then skips the backup phase and continues to sync. This is how I've been doing it for a while.
With iOS 3.2.1 and a backup is mandatory, once again it sits... no ipad upgrade for me.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it easy to correct?

Yesterday I put the iPad in to backup immediately. 5hrs later i got an error message after the bar had got 50% along... "itunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later.

I have Endpoint Protection for a clients network I VPN into. I uninstalled the checkpoint programs and voila!, backup took about 15min and then another 10min to upgrade to 3.2.1
I wouldn't say this issue is wrapped up... next time I connect to this VPN the Endpoint Protection will re-install itself, which I will have to uninstall to backup and sync the ipad... and round n round it goes.

I just backed it up. How can get iTunes to backup my phone and recognize the lastest backup?

Hello, community! I hope that someone is able to assist me.
So, base of the issue: I recently got a new computer [I went from a Mac to a PC - loved my mac, but it was falling apart after a good eight years and a new one is way too expensive] and I downloaded itunes. I do still have my iphone, and I connected it to my new computer hoping to update some apps and transfer pictures and back it up and what not.
First thing I did was authorize the computer. On both accounts - I have on in Japan and one from the US (Iphone is from Japan, where I currently live). When I synced my phone, half of the apps are available to adjust (i.e remove or update). Really random ones, too. For example, there's no correlation between which account downloaded the app and I don't see any paid apps and some free apps. I've also switched between accounts to see if this affects the options - it doesn't change anything.
Also, I want to add/delete music, but I'm completely unable to change anything on my phone - adding or removing. I can view and play the music, but nothing else. Note: When I click the music tab with the phone summary (not the music option in the bar to the left) it asks if I want to sync my entire music library with the iphone.
Also note - itunes is updated.

Yes... that's the way it works.
You can only sync an iDevice with one computer.
Move or copy all the iTunes content from the old computer (or backup of the old computer) to the new computer.
Then sync the iDevice with the new computer. It will still wipe the device, but at this point it will not matter because all the content will be on the new computer to sync to the device.

first check to see if the iTunes .itl library file (or folders in the hierarchy above it) has somehow been set to "read only".

... but if no joy there, try:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes

It sounds like your error message is in regards to having installed an older version of iTunes on your computer. The following Knowledge Base article offers up the step-by-step on how to properly uninstall iTunes:

It sounds like you may be connecting your Apple TV to a computer in order to restore it using iTunes.
If the Apple TV doesn't appear in iTunes, start with these troubleshooting tips:
Some micro-USB cables that are bundled with products or accessories may only support charging those products (and not transmitting data) or they may work only with the product with which they were sold. Using one of these cables to restore your Apple TV may cause the issues above.
To resolve these issues, please try these basic restore steps first. If the issue persists, continue with the following advanced troubleshooting steps.
Temporarily disconnect any unnecessary USB devices from your computer, leaving only your Apple TV, the micro-USB cable, and a keyboard and mouse, if necessary.
Restart your computer and try to restore again.

I have 2 iPhone 4S's, one is personal, one purchased by work for me. Can I use the same iTunes account to sync both phones while keeping the contacts that are synced as separate lists for personal phone and work phone, but also allow same apps for both?

I'm hoping someone out there knows if I can use 1 apple ID and 1 iTunes account to sync 2 different iPhone 4S's - one for personal use, and one for work use. I would like to be able to sync with the same music and app's on both, but need to keep the contacts and calendars completely separate between the 2 phones since I don't want personal data on the work phone or work data on the personal phone. Luckily, if you be very careful and pay attention to what you have selected in itunes, you can separate these things
Basically, in iTunes, there are tabs at the top for Summary, info, apps, etc..
These tabs control PER DEVICE what syncs between itunes and the device.
Therefore, you can plug iPhone 4S #1 in, and select to sync contacts with address book, then do so. Then plug iPhone 4S #2 in, and not choose to sync with address book. iTunes will keep these settings separate. However, in that situation for music and apps, you would check to sync both on both, in order to get all music and apps on each.
The only thing to watch out for, each computer 'user' has only one set of address book and ical, meaning that if you want to sync both phones to the computer, but dont want to mix contacts, only one phone will be able to sync contacts and/or calendars. Basically, each category in the Info tab will only hold one device's information, so you CAN do contacts with iPhone 4S #1, and calendars with #2.
