IWeb link to folder and enclosed files

I have several student projects that they published to a folder using iWeb, and saved to folders using other HTML editors(BBEdit, NVu). These are now on my local drive. What I want to do is to make a link from my iWeb page to their work. I need to know what directory to upload these folders to, and then what the link would be. I've tried several .Mac folders, but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be appreciated.

More explanations:
If the folder were made by "publishing" from iWeb the "root" (upper level) also includes an index.html file.
That index.html is merely a page refresh to the "real" .html file and that page loads it. If you open it with a plain text editor you'll see the simple code.
You appear to be a teacher (instructor) so I'm sure you remember the "index card" trick for organizing.
In the "old days" we would pin index cards onto a board and then connect them with different color strings so we had a visual of the structure. When you moved a card you also needed to detach the string and then re-attach it.
Properly organized the "folders" would reside in your iDisk Sites folder and the "links" (the string) would attach to a page (or pages) stored in the iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/foldername
You can then use some simple URL's (posted above) to aid in navigation.
Did you know that you can "drag" a URL from a browser window address bar into iWeb?
Takes work and patience. Trial and error. And these Discussions for help.

The home folder is where all of your personal files are kept.
Best candidates to delete are movies, videos, music and photos since they generally take the most space.
Don't forget to empry the Trash after you delete the file because the space is not returned until the Trash is emptied.

Install from scratch 3 times Mavericks but cannot used my restore it will just start for ever. After first install and restore mail and link between folder and files didn't work anymore. Now cant see my disk in finder. Help?

First install through regular update : never finishing the start after automatic restart
First install from scratch: erase through disk utility, install OS X Mavericks (using Recover mode), restart ok - Used Migration Assistant to restore applications and data only - Mail crashed each 5 inutes and asked constantly for password of my 2 accounts, links between folders and files not OK and attaching a doc was complicated. Still struggling to understand why copying the entire root dir to a disk image and then restoring from that image did not, as expected, yield an identical system, and why I even had to reinstall after doing this.
Because there is a lot more going on under the hood than merely copying files.
The only way to do what you want is to use cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner.
My advice is to rescue your personal files to a regular non-TimeMachine external drive, Zero erase the ENTIRE drive and install OS X fresh and update, then your programs from original sources and files from backup.
Then, make a bootable clone and you can copy that as many times as you want and each one is bootable.

Linking adjacent JPG and CR2 files

Most of my folders treat adjacent JPG and CR2 as one file when viewing in Lightroom. However, I have one folder that for some reason treats them as two photos—they are not linked together. How can I fix the photos in that folder so the adjacent JPG and Raw files can be viewed as a single photo?

Thanks. I tried that with stacks at 1 second and then collapsed stacks and it worked well. However, what shows up now is the JPG. How can I have the Raw CR2 show up on top of each stack?

You have to get the classname of the Items you receive from getitems.
There you have only to look for Folder.CLASS_NAME. Example:

ICloud Drive shows 'Encrypted Folder' and 'Encrypted File' instead of correct folder and files names

On my 2014 MBA (10.10.2), I added a group of folders and files to iCloud Drive in Finder by dragging and dropping. I do not use disk encryption. The files are of various types (mostly jpeg/pdf, and a few docx). I can see the files when I login to iCloud.com, they are not showing as encrypted. But on my iPad2 8.2 the folders and files show as Encrypted Files and Folders (Settings-iCloud-Storage-Manage Storage-Other Documents (under Documents and Data). I have tried opening these with "authorized apps" on the iPad2, but the apps don't see these files. Two questions: 1. Why are these showing as encrypted, i have no idea what is on the iPad2?; and 2. Once I can get an answer to 1., will I be able to open these jpeg and pdf files on the iPad2. Thanks.

Sorry we aren't communicating. This doesn't have anything to do with a program being associated with the file. No regular app can open an encrypted file. Here is the final outcome. For some reason, after 2 days, these files now show up as unencrypted files in iCloud Drive on the iPad. That is they now match up by name and extension with what I have on the MBA in Finder. There is no explanation except that iCloud Drive is buggy.

Restoring iWeb website from .mac and idisk files

my hard drive on my PowerMac failed this week and was replaced.
i am trying to restore my website in iWeb on the Mac. I sync with iDisk and it appears all the content is in directories there under /web/sites/iWeb.
To start up iWeb with all files in place on my Mac, where do I need to put these files?

all of the iWeb files are saved in a file called DOMAIN on your hard disk. You find it here.
harddisk/users/username/library/application support/iweb/domain
THIS is the file you have to back up after you publish or save your site. If your hard disk crashes again, just put the copy into the folder of this path and reopen iweb.
The post above about recopying the files into iWeb is right. It's not iWeb's fault that your disk crashed. Any program data that wasn't backed up, regardless of the application, was lost when that disk crashed.
I know this isn't what you needed to hear bro, but I hope it helps for the future.

XI R2 link between CUID and the file name in the I-FRS

I would like to know how can I make the link between the file name of a webi document in the I-FRS and the CUID of this document in XI R2.
In the activity universe, I made a report showing a list of webi document with their CUID.
I would like to find them back in a backup of the I-FRS.
In XI R3 it appear that the name of the webi document in the I-FRS is the CUID of this document.

I'm sorry but you're in a really, really bad place. I've thought about this and can only come up with one idea.
Webi docs in XIR2 cannot be opened directly as a crystal report or deski file can. You would need the rich client in XI 3.1 in order to open any of the .wid files stored in your I/O folders. And even then, you might get a security error when opening since the docs were created inside another environment.
But if you open a webi doc with wordpad, it will give you the document name as well as a bunch of other info. Make sure you use wordpad and not notepad, otherwise formatting will make it near impossible to read. Search for this section:

Unfortunately, there's really no easy way to do this. Start with the Input FRS since those represent your report templates. The Output FRS are all of your scheduled instances. Since you have the auditing db, you could report off of it to give yourself a unique list of all report names and start cross referencing what you find doing the wordpad trick. But I don't see an easier way. Windows doesn't see the .wid file as text and therefor won't search within the file when doing a text search. It'll only search the file attributes. The bigger problem I see is even when you have your list of document names matched to a physical file, what are you going to do with it? Importing a loose Webi doc into XIR2 isn't possible. Plus, you're still missing the universes and universe connections. Your webi docs rely on these to process. Your only chance would be to try the XI 3.1 Webi Rich Client and see if that allows you to open but you'll still have the universe problem.
I wish I had better advice for you. Ultimately if you could find a backup of the CMS db somewhere that would help tremendously. Without it, you have next to nothing.

where I work we use a permanent folder structure for an example
a jobnumber called "123123"
I have wrote a little interface called interface.jsx, this file is saved and located in
123123/scripts/interface
I want my interface to navigate two folders up
to 123123/source/ creates a folder called "hej" so result is "123123/source/hej"
then I can pick from a little dialog box the folder 123123/source/a/ copy all .indd files to the folder hej (or any other folder I choose from the dialog box)
I want the script to know the active path instead of whole locations because, we have different project numbers all the time.
then run an extern script called hej.jsx
the best should be also if the script could chose 123123 as default jobnumber too.
Please could someone help me to script this?

Get complete path (physical path) using FM FILE_GET_NAME_USING_PATH.
Default directory is DIR_HOME, hence it creates file in that directory...If you specify complete folder name, it will be created under that path..

Batch create folder and move files

I have files such as:

Fd3_xxx3
FD63_xxx1

Fd63_xxx3
How would I create a batch file that would create folders with the characters before the "underscore" and then add the files into them. For example, all "FD3" files will go in a folder called "FD3" and all "FD63" files will go into a folder called "FD63".

One needs to be careful when running batch files that move or delete large numbers of files in one fell swoop. This is why I posted the file in a passive form. To be on the safe side you must do this:
Open a Console session with cmd.exe.
Invoke the batch file in its current (=passive) form.
Carefully examine the screen output it generates.
If the output fully agrees with your expectations, activate the batch file by modifying this line
echo move %1 %Folder%
to read like so:
move %1 %Folder%
Why? Because the batch file command "echo" will write things to the screen but do nothing else. Hence the command
echo Hell World!
will put the phrase "Hello World!" on the console screen. Once you remove the word "echo", you will actually execute the "move" command:
move %1 %Folder%
A general observation: I feel somewhat uneasy about you running a batch file that includes advanced commands, apparently without you really knowing what it is doing and how it is doing it. Performing the task manually might be a safer option.

Linking to PDFs and Word Files

Hi,
I am using FM9 and working on a long document that comes with many external forms. The forms are in PDF and Word format. The FM files will be converted to pdf, and shipped to users in an interactive e-book format. My question is twofold:
1) How do I link to external Word and PDF froms so they open in a new window?
2) Is there a way to "package" the forms with the pdf deliverable so users cannot move them around and break the links?

To define a link to external files (non-PDFs), use the following hypertext marker:

Assuming that .doc is associated with Microsoft Word on the end-user system, Acrobat/Reader will launch Word with the target file, as a separate application (no need or possibility to specify a "new window" property for links to non-PDF files).
FrameMaker does not support the other features you asked about (new window property for cross-linked PDFs or embedded PDFs), so these will have to be handled in Acrobat as a a manual post-creation step.
If you need such functionality on a regular basis and wish to automate it so that the PDF has all features/settings needed without post-creation steps, it can be done through add-ons; for additional information and sample PDFs, see:

Noobie question.. linking from thumbnails and mp3 files

There are essentially 2 different things I want to do. I'm
building a website for a rock band and need help here.
1. I have a media page with image files. I'm laying out like
9 thumbnails. I'd like to set it up so that when you click on it,
it links to a separate page with the image. Pretty web standard
stuff.. I just don't know how to do it.
2. Similar thing with mp3 files. The discography page will
have a list of songs for their new album. They want to be able to
link a few of their mp3 files on it so that when you click on them,
it automatically links to a page with just the mp3 playing.
How do I go about this?

A normal hyperlink to the mp3 file will cause the system to
open the
required player, on those systems where the required player
is installed.
