IWeb site blank in IE, but perfect in Chrome, Firefox, Safari

Hello all,
I'm sorry, I know this question comes up again and again, but what I have read and attempted doesn't seem to help my website. I just started using iWeb last week and I really enjoy it. I was using Dreamweaver before which is a great program for CSS and HTML editing, but really doesn't compare to the simplicity and speed of designing with a WYSIWYG like iWeb.
So are there a few big culprits as to why iWeb sites don't display in IE 6,7, or 8? I realize this is pretty much an Internet Explorer problem, but can I fix at least some of the content without doing a ton of hacking to my site?
I am already fixing one issue using Dreamweaver:
iWeb: +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>+
instead of: +<xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8">+
...so I'm not afraid to publish with iWeb, then edit a few things in the HTML/CSS. Can anything be done? It's a fairly simple website: mantheipc.webege.com (ignore text content, needs a lot of revision).
*Other info:*
Free hosting via 000webhost.com
iWeb '08 2.0.4
OS X 10.5.7
Dreamweaver CS5
Uploading via FileZilla
Tested to work under Firefox, Chrome, and Safari (Mac+PC)
Tested and failed to load in IE 6,7,8 at http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/
Tested and failed to load in IE 6 on XP Laptop
Thanks a lot for your time,
Dylan

Removing the first line of every HTML document permits the site to load in IE.
<xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8">
To figure out why IE wouldn't display my site, I created a new blank page and added an image, a hyperlink, a text box, and a fancy CSS text box. I also set a background gradient and page color. The page wouldn't display in IE, so I started deleting HTML by hand with a text editor starting with the most likely culprits (in-line CSS, javascript, etc). I was down to an image, hyperlink, bgcolor, and center tags and the site still wouldn't load. Realizing these are the most basic html tags there are, the only thing left that could cause a problem was that first line.
While I realize this is not at all an ideal solution, it worked. Not only does the site load, but it looks about as good as it does in Firefox and Chrome. No transparency issues or anything! The first line isn't vital to site display, but it does cause the browser to 'guess' what type of encoding the page is in. All of my testing indicated this isn't an issue on my PC or Mac, but I need to try friends and family's PC's too.
Tested good on:
IE8, Firefox, and Chrome in Windows 7
Firefox, Chrome, and Safari in MacOS Leopard
Thanks again to everyone who read and contributed!

  • WVC54GCA camera can't see video on Internet Explorer but can on Chrome and Safari

I installed the camera, and I can see the video on Chrome and Safari, but not on Internet explorer Version 8.  I can see the screen where the video would go, including the headings, but there's just a red "x" in the upper left hand corner.

To View your Camera on your Computer using IE, you need to Enable ActiveX Control on your Computer for your IE... Open IE on your Computer and Click on Tools and Internet Options.... Then click on the Security tab and select "Internet" and below you need to click on "Custom Level"  and under that you will Find "ActiveX " and you need to Enable all the Features of ActiveX and click on Ok...
Once Done now you can try to access your camera setup page and when you click on View Video, it will prompt you to Install Linksyscam.cab File, you need to install that File .. Once done you will be able to View your Camera..

  • Embedded SWF files auto starting in IE but set to not auto play - Chrome, Firefox, Safari work ok

One of the web masters at my school has embedded several Captivate 5 swf files in a web page.  I had re-exported all of them to not auto start after we realized that the originals were set to auto play upon loading (someone else made the orginials...).  Caches have been cleared on IE9, but yet, when that page loads, all of the no auto-play swfs start playing.  On Chrome, Firefox and Safari, none of them start playing when the page is loaded.  Does anyone have a clue why IE9 might be doing this and how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Sue

Am I correct in assuming that when your web developer set these SWFs up on the same page that he did not use the default HTM page that Captivate creates?  Did he just embed them into the web page using standard Dreamweaver code for SWFs?
Do the same Captivate SWFs start automatically if you upload them to your web server individually with the HTM and JS files that Captivate creates?  If not, then your web developer might be better off embedding the content in his web page using individual iframes pointing at the HTM file rather than the method he previously chose.

  • IWeb sites blank out images after they load

Has anyone noticed that when using Safari as a browser, iWeb designed web pages load the main picture only to have them disappear immediately after they load?
Why is that and how can it be corrected?

You can't import your published files into iWeb.

  • One of my iWeb site pages is displaying incorrectly on Google Chrome.

I've been using iWeb to publish to my FTP hosted by Bluehost for years.  Recently, one of my pages is displaying completely wrong and only shows minimal text and nothing else, it should look like all of the other main pages.  All other pages work perfectly on my site (www.VincentFWelch.com) except for the following page: http://www.vincentfwelch.com/live/ADS.html   I've tried clearing all of my browsing data as well as re-installing Google Chrome, nothing seems to fix this.  Can anyone confirm this is an issue only on my Mac or if every mac using Google Chrome displays this page incorrectly?

It doesn't display in Safari either.  Are you publishing directly to the ftp server or to a folder on your hard drive and then uploading with a 3rd party FTP client?
If it's the former publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.  See if that page loads normally. If so then it's the upload process that's failing.
On possible fix is to use the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option in an attempt to get all of the files uploaded.
It appears that the files for the ADS page are not being uploaded.  You can use a 3rd party FTP client like YummyLite, Cyberduck or Trasnmit to upload the folder for the ADS page manually.

  • Graphs not rendering in IE 7.0 but perfectly shown in Firefox after SSL

    Hi All,
    I am facing a problem.
    I have two instances
    1) Stage instance - SSO wired but not SSL verified.
Reports + Graphs are rendered properly in IE 7.0 and firefox
For deployment from stage to production, we copied Repository and the web catalog folder.
Our production instance is new one and there has been no earlier deployment
    2) Production Instance - SSO + SSL enabled.
Reports + Graphs are rendered properly in Firefox but not in IE.
I have imported the certificate in IE but still it does not show any Graphs.
Is this issue with SSL implementation or missing Flash Plug ins.
Your help and suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Regards
    (S.Prashant)

Yes, its working, but you must change settings in Internet Explorer.
    Do the following:
    1. Go to Tools->Internet optins
    2. choose Security tab
    3. choose Local intranet
    4. add sites (www adress) of your CRM portal
    5. confirm the settings and log again in PCUI CRM
in IE6 it was enough if you added CRM portal address under Trusted sites, but in IE7 you must add this adress to Local sites and from Trusted sites will be removed.

    Hello there.
If you're having a problem with a specific plugin, you need to contact its author for support. If you have problems with all your plugins, then it's a different matter. Is that the case?

    To all,
Good morning.  Our institution developed a PDF document with functional buttons for printing and e-mailing.  When the document is viewed via Internet Explorer and Firefox, the functional buttons work as expected.  However if the document is viewed via Chrome and Safari, the functional buttons do not work.  The workaround for those who are using Chrome and Safari, the PDF document needs to be saved to their local drive before the functional buttons work.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  If yes, what was your solution other than the workaround.
    Thanks.

    1. I published the iWeb site with my iBook but I also want to populate and edit it with images from i Photo on my iMac - can I work with two Mac's???
    2. My slide show pictures are very small on iWeb slide show compared to what I get on the slide show on my now old Mac Web page.Comments???
Thanks in advance for the help.

A slick way to do it is to store the domain file on a usb flash drive (stick) and double click it from there. That way you can plug it into whatever computer running iweb you wish and update it.
Always remember to back that file up no matter what you do. If you lose it for any reason it can't be restored from the published files.
    good luck

  • Want to publish an old iWeb site - struggling!

Hi, hope someone can help me out.
Approx 5 years ago, I created a website for a mate in iWeb and published it using an old .Mac account. I've since changed Macs and while the website design remains, .Mac is now Mobile Me and my mate has lost the log in details. The account is still live as my mate had the Mobile Me annual fee deducted from their account only recently.
To make matters worse, we registered a domain name and pointed it to the .Mac created domain. However, my mate failed to renew the domain and so there's no way of us seeing the website.
Finally, the email address registered to the .Mac address is now also defunct.
We've now bought the same domain name back and want to publish the iWeb site to that domain, but with no Mobile Me details I'm wondering what the solution is. Any thoughts?
    Cheers in advance

You will have to recreate the web site from scratch since you don't have the domain file that was used by iWeb to create the site in the first place. Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.
As for the domain name once you have your site created and published you can forward it to the new site.  You can obtain an account on a 3rd party web hosting server like HostExcellence.com and publish you site there.
However, if you have a blog or one of the items listed below they will not be supported on a 3rd party server:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    From iWeb 3's Help
Many 3rd party servers do support php which will allow you to protect pages or the entire site.  3rd party hit counters which offer much more than just the number of visitors can be added. And you can use a 3rd party blogging service to create your blog and embed its page into one of your iWeb pages with an HTML snippet and iframe code.
