Iweb works differently on windows machines

I have just built a website using iweb. It has several columns of information. Each column has its own text box. When I open the site on my mac, everything is perfectly lined up. When I open it on a windows machine (XP), the information is no longer lined up. What's interesting is that everything that shifts, shifts to the left. Is there anything that I can do about this?

Your movie is 640 x 480 + 16 pixels for the controller.
On your page the movie is 583 x 480 + 16 pixels for the controller.
Your movie is not even scaled proportionally. You had to uncheck "constrain proportions" to accomplish that.
Perhaps the problem is stil on the Windows machine. Check to see they have the latest version of QuickTime.
And the Original size button still works. And if it doesn't you can type the numbers 640 and 480 yourself.

VSYNC in games working differently in Windows 7 and 8.1?

So the problem is that VSYNC option in all my games is working totally different in Windows 7 and 8.1, and I want to know what is responsible for this.
In Windows 7 it working like it should be - limiting frame rate to the screen refresh rate (60Hz in my case).
But in Windows 8.1 its limiting GPU usage and randomly cuts frames to 40 or 48 for instance, instead of 50 or 55 with 99-100% GPU usage.

Could someone please tell me why this is even happening?

Website looks different on Windows machines

I have made a website using iweb08. I publish using iwebseo on MacHighway. My website consists of columns of information and each column has its own textbox. It looks perfect on my mac when called up on the web. However, when I use a Windows machine almost everything looks out of wack. All of the columns or headings look like they have moved one way or another a couple of spaces, sometimes more. How can I get the information to look the same on both types of machines?

This may or may not help you, but to get around "web safe/unsafe fonts" I make them hyperlinks and just link them to the same page... For example, I create a separate text boxes for the navigation bar rather using the one provided since I find the text bland. I use whatever text I want that is in my library then I make it a hyperlink. Do NOT highlight the word or words when making it a hyperlink. Just select it so that the dotted square is around it.... make it a hyperlink then you can use whatever fonts you like. Then when selecting where it should lead to, select "one of my pages" and make it the same page that you are working on. (hope that makes sense...

DVD not working on certain Windows machines

Created a DVD with DSP. Plays on macs and some windows machines but a client is having problems with them playing on all of their windows machines. I don't know the specs of those computers, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on create the most likely to work DVD.

Let's assume that all of the Windows machines actually have a DVD-ROM drive. They'll also need to have DVD player software installed on all of them. While most Windows system do have Windows Media Player installed, it is a terrible application for DVD playing. It's best to make sure that ALL systems have both the proper hardware and software for DVD playback. A program like PowerDVD is usually the recommended choice.
Also note that some DVD drives don't like certain brands of media; stick with know high quality brands like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Stay away from low/no quality brands such as Memorex.

CSC order search not working on local windows machine.

Hi All,
I am facing an issue when I set up CSC9.1 with Search9.1 on local windows XP machine.
I have setup everything for CSC with our ATG Commerce application.
The same DB and configurations work on my other linux installations.
Also, I have checked the JSP is present in the EAR at the correct location.
Below is the error which is thrown on the console when I hit the search button on CSC order search page.

This seems like a JBoss/OS problem. Can you check if you have the right permissions to the ear file - did you install JBoss as one user, and then install the ATG ear as another user, or does the JSP file/enclosing directory itself have some permissions issue? Did you start JBoss as a different user?
<Abhinav> - I am using multiple instances of JBoss for CSC, Commerce, BCC and other apps. All applications except CSC works fine. I also checked the permissions on the containing folder in CSC EAR and other EARs, and all are same. Also I am the only user for my machine and have done everything via my login.
Or, can you check JBoss startup logs and see if you have any relevant errors? Do you see any errors just before this exception in your server logs?

Why does VPN connection work differently in Windows 8.1 than in Windows 7?

I have the following situation:
I run a Windows 8.1 64-bit and Juniper VPN Client. There is a cable connected to my laptop and usually it shows Ethernet 2 (I'm connecting through a dock though that doesn't seem to be relevant) as the adapter with internet access. Now, when I connect to
the VPN, the Juniper Virtual Adapter appears and it now has internet access. Ethernet 2 loses the privilege.
Now, meanwhile the guy sitting next to me running Windows 7 using the same VPN client and his adapters show the opposite, Ethernet has the internet access while the Juniper Virtual Adapter doesn't.
This is a problem because this setup makes it impossible for me to use some inhouse applications which can only be accessed from the internal network. My hostname shows up as the place where I'm tunneling via VPN to.
I googled around a bit and found some workarounds, but none have worked so far (for example people seem to have the same problem with WiFi networks, but the corresponding hotfix doesn't work for cable).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

IWeb Placement Different in Windows Browsers???

I created a website using iWeb and one of the included templates www.duplayphotography.com on the Gallery page I have three small pictures that are links to other hidden pages (3 vertical images that are set as hyperlinks). On my mac, the spacing vertically between the 3 images is spaced fine, on a PC using IE6,7 or Firefox, a big spoace is after the first image and before the second and third. (basically the spacing is off) Any idea how to fix or lock this? Can I attach a screenshot somewhere on this forum?

This isn't really a short checkpoint list. There's a LOT of information at a LOT of different places on how to make a website look "kinda" the same on different browsers, but nothing that will say how to make them look exactly the same because that doesn't exist. Because each browser has the ability to control the content that gets passed through it, each one makes certain "choices" on how to display the fonts, the images, etc.
If "kinda" the same will do, then three tips are:
1) Use only the simplest fonts like Arial or Courier
2) Compress your images outside of iWeb so that they're .jpg before dropping them in
3) Don't use any of the special effects within iWeb like rotating, drop shadow, etc.
You'll notice that your fonts, letter spacing, and other small things like that won't look exactly the same. You may also notice a difference in coloring of your images, but this will help to at least make your site recognizable in different browsers.

You'll need XCode and the iPhone SDK to develop for the iPhone. These only run on Mac OS X, which is only officially supported on Mac hardware. I don't know of any solution to run XCode under any other OS.

IWeb 08 - my site works on my laptop, but is MEGA slow on a Windows machine

My iWeb constructed site - published to a folder, then uploaded to my domain using Transmit (which is fully functional!) works on my laptop(s) but is MEGA slow on a Windows machine....and considering there's a lot of 'sheep' using Windows out there...AND the website involved is a business (a shop) www.ukdk.dk then I'm losing some business.
What could be the problem?
It works on BOTH my 2 Mac laptops (a G5 & a G4) , I've checked with the web-host/provider and all is fine there. When I used my old G4 to construct a website there was no problem of this manner. It's since iWeb 08 has been used.
I've got the latest updates, have slimmed down the website to 'try' and make it faster (which takes away it's groovey look, which detracts the charm of the site so that's a bloomin' nuisance) and have done everything within my power/knowledge to sort this. To no avail.

The business is a shop. A small one. Even before (note: BEFORE) I let anyone at all know about the site's existence I checked it out on both a Mac - my own 2 - and a dreaded Windows machine. Worked fine with Mac, but not with Windows. This isnt with any traffic other than MYSELF visiting the site! I'd love to hear of other iWeb '08 users and their sites so I can check them out to see if they have the same problem. It's strange that I didn't get this when using my iBook G4's iWeb software.
Maybe I'll try transfering the domain file from laptop (New MacBook with iWeb '08) to laptop (Old iBook G4 with older version of iWeb) and seeing if that helps. A thorough pain in the backside if so, but at least the site will be working!

Can't get WEP to work with both mac and windows machines.

Currently my airport express is setup with no security. When I try to setup using WEP it works great for my powerbook but the windows machines constantly get disconnected.
Any ideas? Should I use other types of wireless security (WPA etc...)? If so, can an xp machine be configured for that type?

If you can use WPA use WPA, it will depend on your PC
wireless adapter and if you are running Windows XP

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual
standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit
WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors
use certain algorithms to convert simple
alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX
keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable
WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different
algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a
ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently
on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password
will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if
you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is
required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key
must be used regardless.

Will 11G XE work on a 64 bid windows machine.

I would like to down load and install 11g XE beta but I do not know if it will install and run on my 64 bid Windows machine.
I had trouble with the 10 G XE trying to down load it on 64 bits.
If I cannot use it on 64 bits could I make it work if I down load Unbuntu Linux?

I would like to down load and install 11g XE beta but I do not know if it will install and run on my 64 bid Windows machine.Why (and how) would you install the "beta"? 11g XE "final" has been released more than a year ago and even if you still find a beta download somewhere, license terms would forbid to use it anymore...
As you probably found out, there is no Windows 64 installer and the Windows installation requirements don't list 64bit Windows as supported. If you use the forum search, you'll find tons of posts on that issue, especially on possible issues when using the 32bit Windows installer on 64bit Windows, and how other people worked around them.
If I cannot use it on 64 bits could I make it work if I down load Unbuntu Linux?There is a 64bit Linux installer, but Ubuntu is not on the list of supported Linux flavors. There exists a great tutorial for this scenario, though: {thread:id=2301639}. Note that later Ubuntu versions may require additional/different steps.

Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

You could try the following:
* Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
* Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

I have noticed that when using Tigers Dosk utility to ERASE a flash drive I have a choice of FAT but not FAT32. It seems that flash drives formatted as FAT do not work properly when trying to copy files from a Windows machine. Why?

I have found that USB FLASH drives formatted as FAT do not always work on Windows machines. Why? How can I use Tiger to format for FAT32?

I think it depends on the size of the Flash Drive as to whether it uses FAT16 or FAT32.
Can you format it FAT32 on the PC?

10g forms developed using windows machine is not working in Solaris machine

I have developed a form using the following version of Oracle Developer suit 10g Fomrs using WINDOWS machine.
My Application server is in a SOLARIS machine. All the .fmx are copied in the same SOLARIS machine in a directory.
I have copied the form (.fmx) in the same directories where the other forms are, in the SOLARIS machine.
Now i click on the menu item (menu item was already present there before developing the form in the menu. I did not have to create a new menu item in the Menu) in the windows machine.
The form doesnt appear.
Could you please tell me wheather i have to compile the form that i have developed in WINDOWS machine in some format of SOLARIS machine, or I have to do something else so that on the click of Menu item in Windows machine that form appears. Or Ihave to develop the form using SOLARIS machine?

Connecting to Windows machines by name doesn't work

OK. Here's the story. PC/Linux guy for a long time. I'm the default sysadmin at work and for family. My wife bought me a Mac for my birthday, and I LOVE IT !!
The only problem is I still have 4 windows machines in the house, and I need to connect to them to get work done. (I actually now prefer using the Mac keyboard and mouse over the standard PC ones.)
I've gone through all the tips on joining my Mac to a Windows workgroup, and in the Finder, under the Shared section, I see the names for all my windows machines on the network. I can change my Connect as.. information, and see my windows shares.
Here's the problem, though. I want to use either VNC or MS Remote Desktop Connection on my mac to get my Windows Desktop. I cannot enter in just the name in either of these dialogs. It doesn't fined the machine by name only. If I figure out the explicit IP address, then it works fine.
Also, if I open up a terminal window, and attempt to ping a windows machine by name, it won't find it. What's going on here?

The wonders of name resolution are often a pain in the proverbial.
What response do you get from the "ping" when you attempt to use the name? Are you using the name of the PC on its own or "PCname.local"?
