VSYNC in games working differently in Windows 7 and 8.1?

So the problem is that VSYNC option in all my games is working totally different in Windows 7 and 8.1, and I want to know what is responsible for this.
In Windows 7 it working like it should be - limiting frame rate to the screen refresh rate (60Hz in my case).
But in Windows 8.1 its limiting GPU usage and randomly cuts frames to 40 or 48 for instance, instead of 50 or 55 with 99-100% GPU usage.
Here's the GPU usage graph in Windows 8.1, left part with VSYNC on and the right one is OFF.

Could someone please tell me why this is even happening?
SPECS: i7 3230QM, 8GB RAM, GeForce GT 650M SLI, Windows 7 SP1 / Windows 8.1 U1.

Same drivers, same settings, different results.
For example:

Frames: 3518 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 58.633 - Min: 30 - Max: 64 - VSYNC OFF
Windows 7:

  • String.getBytes (java) o/p different in Windows and Unix

    Hi,
I was trying out the following code, which gives me a byte array from a
    String object.
    byte[] bytArr = null;
    bytArr = <String object>.getBytes("UnicodeBigUnmarked");
    System.out.println(bytArr.toString());
The output is different in Windows and in Unix. The assumed that the reason could be because Intel architecture is based on little_endian so the difference in output. I changed the code to the following
    bytArr = <String object>.getBytes("ISO8859_1");
and then ran the class file by using "java -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859_1" so that the toString can also take the character encoding of ISO8859_1 rather than using the platform dependent one. Still the result is different in Windows and Unix.
What could be the reason for this? How can I correct this ? Any help in this regard is welcome.
    cheers
    kk

    Hi Sabre150,
    Thanks for the suggestion, it worked. Both the o/p shows the same if I use System.out.println(Arrays.toString(bytArr));
I am assigning full points to you. Thanks a ton for the help.
To end with I have one more question, the method Arrays.toString is introduced from jdk1.5, so if I want to use jdk 1.4 what should I use instead of Arrays.toString ?
It would be great if I can get this answer.
    cheers

  • Is QT DVD Player different on Windows and MAC?

I have both Mac and PC computers. QT 7.1.3 is installed on both. I can view both commercial (Hollywood) and non-commercial mp2 content on the Mac but not the PC. Can anyone tell me what the difference is and why?
Mac and PC   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Win XP Pro

Is QT DVD Player different on Windows and MAC?
There is no such thing as a QT DVD Player. On the Mac there is a QT Player which does not play DVDs and there is a DVD Player which does. You are probably trying to compare the DVD Player on the Mac with the QT Player on the PC here.

safari 5.1 not loading MOST of the times. like 1 in 100 attempts it works fine, and that too, as long as you work in same window. and what's the webkit2webprocess.exe file?

the webkit2webprocess.exe has something to do with the sound. Safari works fine for me, except for the occasional time when the webkit2webprocess.exe crashes. Sometimes it crashes Safari altogether but sometimes it just reloads all the tabs I have opened. Either way, it's a huge pain. I hope they fix it with an update soon.

  • Slideshows which work for Mac, Windows AND ipads/iphones???

    Hi.
My first post here & just getting into mac after many decades of windows!!
After much searching around I have finally found a place (Yola) where I can design a website which is compatible with all browsers/mac/windows..hurray.
However, due to the type of work that I do I need to display 50 photos (before/after). I want to do this with a slideshow. I have made up around 8 from different sites but each time there's a compatibility problem with ipads or iphones (but no problem with mac/windows/nokia smartphone).
Is there a slideshow (FREE) which will work across all platforms? Is iphoto the only way - and will that work with windows and is there a free version.
Finally, the website design software uses 'widgets' to place code into the site for photos/slideshows etc etc.
Any help would really be appreciated!

PS Hope to be getting an ipad soon.

  • Java program runs differently on Windows and Linux

    Hi!
I would like to run a java application (which is written and run on windows platform) on linux platform. I don't know wether it is possible or not, but I tired on the following way:
I have made a small java application. It worked correctly on windows (I developed it on windows). I copied first only the class file (Start.class) to the linux machine (which has exactly the same JDK as windows machine). When I type the command:

  • Should I expect any compatibility issues by working partly under Windows and partly under MAC OS?

Apologies if this point was already raised but could not find the answer.
I am considering the creative cloud in an environment where the same files will be worked within windows and MAC environment.
Should I expect any compatibility issues or difference with such a setup.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi JLCbac,

  • Flash behaves differently in windows and linux ?

There are some sites that flash doen't display too well (firefox/opera) in linux, but seems to work fine in windows. Is there a difference in the plugin for each OS?
    try this:
    http://www.asus.com/index.aspx
Wait for the page to finish loading, and then hover your mouse over the "products" link at the top of the page.. the drop down menu is now masked by the "asus webcam notebook ad". This doesn't happen in windows.. I've tried both arch package and the default flash installer, but get the same results.
Note: The drop down menu is visible if you use the flashblock extension and disable the ad.
    Thanks..

yep, for some reason the linux flash plugin doesn't let the browser draw elements over the animations, which is especially annoying on websites like the one you mentioned where dropdown menus are used over a silly useless flash banner.
there are a LOT of things wrong with the flash plugin. macromedia hasn't really addressed them in a long long time
EDIT: which is why i wish the best of luck to the gplflash plugin developers.

  • Mdx queries work different on 2008R2 and 2012

    Hi all,
we have migrated our SSAS database from 2008R2 to 2012 recently. And I found strange thing. The mdx query below (generated by Cognos) worked quite fine on 2008R2

    NULL)
      SET XQE_NS0 AS FILTER([Product].[Products].[Product].MEMBERS, [Product].[Products].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("MEMBER_KEY") = "713077" OR [Product].[Products].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("MEMBER_KEY") = "857127" OR

    ON AXIS(0)
    FROM [Nemesis]
WHERE ([Territory].[Territories].[XQE_MDF_CM0]) CELL PROPERTIES VALUE,  CELL_ORDINAL,  LANGUAGE,  FORMAT_STRING
But on 2012 version there was an interesting thing

QTD Sales Revenue QTD Sales Revenue
    5550927.34167495 5550927.34167495
both results have been duplicated. Finding out a reason it looks like the where Clause which should filter products across first calc member works wrong. So when comment out where clause outcome looks right (I put all products from both brands by the way).
But clients have to choose products to filter.
I am just wondering if anyone encountered a similar issue, or
even if somebody have the solution.
    Many thanks,
    Denis.
    Denis

In other words filter by set in WHERE clause is not working via calc member and aggregate function.
    Any ideas guys?

  • Copies of Indesign books works different on MAC and PC ?

    Hello everyone,
i try to follow many discussion about how to create a clean copy of an Indesign book indb (with different chapters which are individual indesign files)  with no link to the old one.
I found many tricks like changing the name of the original folder or packaging the book for print, but i'm not really satisfy by this way.
The first way forced me to change the name of the original file each time i want to make a clean copy and the second way  will not keep the structure of my folder and subfolders which are not included in the package.
It seems the real concern is more about how Indesign is able to manage absolute and relative path, and i also found some people asking Indesign only works with absolute path.
But, after many trials on Mac and PC, i was so surprised to check that on my MAC, thinks are working very well, when i make a copy of the original book folder exactly in the same location, the copy is not linked to the original file (that's what i want) !!!
But on PC it doesn't, the copy of the book is still linked to the original files.
Can someone tell  me the difference between MAC and PC ?
Is it an option in Indesign to change that ? or is it related to th OS file system ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Daté

    Hi Peter,
I  opened the two books in indesign to compare the paths of the files in the books.
I just simply move the mouse over the indesign file in the book panel to check the path that appears in the yellow tooltip.
    For example :
for the original BOOK_TECH.indb, the path of the file Trims.indd in the DOC_TECH folder is : /Users/UserName/Documents/DOC_TECH/MAIN_FILES/Trims.indd
for the copy BOOK_TECH.indb, the path of the file Trims.indd in the DOC_TECH2 folder is : /Users/UserName/Documents/DOC_TECH2/MAIN_FILES/Trims.indd
Another way to be sure of what i'm saying here is to open the file trims.indd in the original book and the same file in the copy. You will get 2 different files opened in Indesign with the same name of course.
I also try with a Mac book pro running MAC OS X 10.6.5, but it doesn't work (you will get the link to the original one). It seems to work or not, depending the OS
i'm curious to know why it is working on MacOS x 10.9 and not 10.6 and windows. Maybe there is a way to fix it with the OS settings ?
If you have the right answer, just let me know, because it could help a lot of people.
    Thanks a lot.

  • SQL Script working differently with 8i and 9i

    Hi
I am facing strange problem with my simple SQL script called from a shell script. It bahaves differently with ORACLE 8.1.7.4 and 9.2.0.1. The machine is same.
    sqlplus -s / @Tech.sql WKC625 11 11 '11 22' ""
This is working with 9i but it does't work with ORACLE 8.
Actually what happens is that the argument in single quotes (') is taken as 2 separate argument.
    The Tech.sql is :
    spool add
    insert into TECH values ('&1','&2','&3','&4','&5','');
    commit;
    quit
I tried putting double quotes also. Is something got changes between ORACLE 8 and 9i.
    Please help
    Surendra

Are you sure it works in 9?
If you are using UNIX, then the O/S will strip the quotes while processing the arguments. You need to use 2 single quotes around 11 22, just as you have around the empty string at the end.
I believe that Windows does the same, but I do not use windows.

  • Why does VPN connection work differently in Windows 8.1 than in Windows 7?

    I have the following situation:
I run a Windows 8.1 64-bit and Juniper VPN Client. There is a cable connected to my laptop and usually it shows Ethernet 2 (I'm connecting through a dock though that doesn't seem to be relevant) as the adapter with internet access. Now, when I connect to
the VPN, the Juniper Virtual Adapter appears and it now has internet access. Ethernet 2 loses the privilege.
Now, meanwhile the guy sitting next to me running Windows 7 using the same VPN client and his adapters show the opposite, Ethernet has the internet access while the Juniper Virtual Adapter doesn't.
This is a problem because this setup makes it impossible for me to use some inhouse applications which can only be accessed from the internal network. My hostname shows up as the place where I'm tunneling via VPN to.
I googled around a bit and found some workarounds, but none have worked so far (for example people seem to have the same problem with WiFi networks, but the corresponding hotfix doesn't work for cable).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
To find where your problem is, you can attempt to compare two route table with each other.
Please open CMD by running as administrator, and type following command:
    route print
If you are not familiar with this, you can upload the screenshot,or copy the content to notepad, then upload to SkyDrive.

This is my applet which I made yesterday.
When you click on the link, push the button, and run the applet online,
nothing happens when you click on help - about dodgesnow version 0.1, which is on the menubar above.
However, if you download the html file and run the applet again, you can see the "about dialog".
The dialog is made with the dialog form in NetBeans 5.0, and therefore uses its own layout library.
I want to know why this happens.

    1. your applet does not work in IE because it tries to run your applet with msjvm. Use object tag instead of applet.
In the [jdk home]/bin directory there is a tool called htmlconverter.
Use that to convert your html page.
    2. your applet tries to do something outside of the applet's sandbox security.
    Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.security.AccessControlException: acc
    ess denied (java.net.SocketPermission image.paran.com:80 connect,resolve)
I am not sure what you mean by running the applet locally (appletviewer
with policy, netbeans) Or opening the html page and having a policy for
    code run locally.
Why would your applet comming from blogfile.paran.com:80 try to
connect to image.paran.com:80 I guess java sees this as another sub
domain and won't let the applet do this.
    3. when I open your applet it takes a full one minute after loading the applet before I see the gui.
    after this[b]
    http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_253895/200609/basic: Loading http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_253895/200609/1157418860_DodgeSnow.jar from cache
the jre (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06) seems to go to sleep for a full one minute.
    4. The exception I get is this[b]
java.lang.ClassFormatError: Incompatible magic value 1195984440 in class file javax/swing/LayoutStyle
    Because[b]
    http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_253895/200609/javax/swing/LayoutStyle.class
Does not exist, I guess the jre looks for this file because it's not included
in your jar and I don't have it in my lib/ext or classpath.
You jar does contain a org.jdesktop.LayoutStyle.
A Full trace might help us out:
