Iwlist scanning gives: Interface doesn't support sc [solved]

When I'm trying to scan for all available networks I get:
# iwlist eth1 scanning
eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning : Operation not supported
My wireless card works fine if I set every parameter manually. I'm currently using the orinoco drivers that came along with ArchLinux.
It seems like that the version of the orinoco drivers installed doesn't support the scan stuff. But building the new orinoco drivers failed with
/usr/local/download/orinoco/orinoco-0.15rc2/orinoco_pci.c: In function `orinoco_ pci_suspend':

So I did try the wlan-ng26 driver downloaded and installed with pacman.
I remove the orinoco modules with
[root@ArchThinkpad orjanp]# modprobe -r orinoco_pci
But when I try to insert the prism2_pci module, it doesn't exist. Why?
[root@ArchThinkpad orjanp]# modprobe prism2_pci
FATAL: Module prism2_pci not found.
Any heads up on what to do?

I installed the 0.15RC1 version of the Orinoco drivers found here.
I rebooted but I still had the 0.13 version. I did a make and make install as the readme file said.
What do I have to do to update the driver?
do you use a PKGBUILD?
update the driver: if it was copied to the right place and the kernel knows about it (depmod -a) it should work
for a start, check under
ls -la /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
that your module is installed under the correct location (the orinoco files should be newer than the other ones)
if this is so, make sure you are depmod -a (as root) ... and if even this is ok, then either you are running the new modules or something strange happened

    Hi All,
I have just done a fresh install of Arch on my new Sony Vaio VGN-FW53GF, all goes well, except for Network Manager.
I can use my wired connection ok as eth0 shows up as active when I hover over the kde applet in the task bar. However when I go to "Manage Connections"
I do not see any Wireless networks or even my "working" wired connection in any list.

Can anyone offer some suggestion on how to get network manager going, I would like to use it. In the past
I have used Wicd, but it has some limitations.

Ok, I found the issue. I was missing the firmware for the card. I downloaded firmware from the intel site as per the wiki on wireless and
my interface comes up (shown with ifconfig) and I can see all the networks.
However, I cannot seem to connect to my network with WPA. When I go to connect I get network manager thinking the access point is WEP and asking for pass phrase.
If I select WPA(personal) and fill in a password, nothing happens .... just says unavailable.
Can anyone give some idea's here. I have not used network manager before for WPA.

I use WPA2 with network manager without a problem.  It should "just work", im not sure why you have issues, can you switch your router to a different security protocol to test?

Upgraded my computer to 10.9.2 Mavericks and now my 2011 outlook gives the following error: "Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods."  Anybody know how to fix it?  Thank you.

I got the following from the microsoft Web site. Also, the SMPT port must be overwriten. Use port 587
This article contains information about the compatibility of Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 and Apple iCloud. Outlook for Mac 2011 does not support Apple iCloud calendar (CalDAV) and contact (CardDAV) synchronization.  Outlook for Mac 2011 does support iCloud Mail. For steps on how to configure your iCloud email account in Outlook for Mac 2011, go to the "More Information" section of this article.
To configure your Apple iCloud email account in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, follow these steps:
    Start Outlook 2011.
On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
Click the plus sign in the lower-left corner, and then select E-mail.
Enter your E-mail Address and Password, and then click Add Account.
Note: The new account will appear in the left navigation pane of the Accounts dialog box.
Enter one of the following in the Incoming server box:
    mail.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    mail.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Incoming server box.
Enter one of the following in the Outgoing server box:
    smtp.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    smtp.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Outgoing server box.
After you have entered the incoming and outgoing server information, Outlook 2011 will start to receive your email messages.
Note: You can click Advanced to enter additional settings, such as leaving a copy of each message on the server.

It appears that WebLogic 8.1 does not have the "user transactions enabled" flag
for a connection factory. I see references to this flag in earlier versions of
WebLogic. The closest thing in WL 8.1 seems to be the "XA Connection Factory Enabled"
              flag.

It's killing me because i have installed the same solution on many other server without any issue.

P.s. The Web server is  a Window Server 2003 R2 standard edition

Perhaps using [modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip] will at least tell us what dlls are loading. Look at the CR dlls. There should not be any v11 files loaded by your app.
You may also start considering obtaining phone support for this one. I have a feeling this will take more than just forums to solve...

  • HP Photosmart 6520 Server Connection Error: -1: Apps don't work and Scan to email doesn't work

My HP PhotoSmart 6520 has a persistent error to connect to the server and therefore Apps and Scan to email doesn't work.
I have manually set DNS to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4, I have installed latest driver on my Macbook pro, I have updated firmware, but still not working. Weird is also that in my ePrintCenter, the Apps I see there are not in line with thos visible on the printer.
Detail is that I have set up the printer on a Windows PC but recently changed to Mac.
Printing, scan to Computer all works fine.
Help! I have read a lot on forums but so far no solution for me!

    Hi Jack6520,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to connect to the apps and use the scan to email feature of your Photosmart 6520 printer due to a server connection error.
First off, thank you for the very detailed information, I really appreciate it.
To better assist you, would you please provide some additional information:
When you set the manual DNS servers, did you also set a manual IP address for the printer?
Have you changed routers or internet service providers recently?  Have you updated the firmware on the router? If you have an ISP-provided router, do you know if they pushed out a firmware update?
Have you recently installed any new anti-virus/malware software?  If so it may have blocked the ports the printer uses to communicate.  I’ve included a post by VisionAiry titled “Check the Anti-Virus for Blocked Ports and Timed Scans”.
Do you have a guest network setup? Please Print a Network Configuration page. It will let you know how many networks the printer sees. A guest network will have the same name as your network with a tag about it being the guest network.
Previously did you customize the printer’s ePrint email address? I’m asking this because I might ask you to disable then enable the web services.  If we have to take this step you will lose the customized ePrint email address without any ability to get it back.
What version of Mac OS X are you using? whatsmyos.com
Are there any cables other than the power cable connected to the printer?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Happytohelp01

2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

  • Python script to parse 'iwlist scan' into a table

    Hi,
I've written a small python script that parses the output of the command "iwlist interface scan" into a table.
    Why ?
Like many arch linux users I think, I use netcfg instead of something like network manager or wicd. So the most natural way to scan for wifi networks in range is iwlist scan. But the output of this command is huge and I find it difficult to retrieve information. So this script parses it into a table : one network, one line.
    Example output
    Name Address Quality Channel Encryption
    wifi_1 01:23:45:67:89:AB 100 % 11 WPA v.1
    wifi_2 01:23:45:67:89:AC 76 % 11 WEP
    wifi_3 01:23:45:67:89:AD 51 % 11 Open
    wifi_4 01:23:45:67:89:AE 50 % 11 WPA v.1
    wifi_5 01:23:45:67:89:AF 43 % 4 Open
    wifi_6 01:23:45:67:89:AG 43 % 4 WPA v.1
    Details
It reads from stdin so you use it like that: iwlist wlan0 scan | iwlistparse.py
The width of the columns is determined by what's in it.
You can easily do a bit more than just parsing the info: in the example above, the quality has been calculated to percents from a ratio (e.g. 46/70).
    It is sorted, too.
    Customization
It's python so it's easy to customize. See the comments in the code.
    Code
    #!/usr/bin/env python
    # iwlistparse.py
    # Hugo Chargois - 17 jan. 2010 - v.0.1

    sort_cells(parsed_cells)
    print_cells(parsed_cells)
    main()
I hope you find it useful. Please report bugs, I haven't tested it a lot. You may have to customize it though, because I think not all iwlist scan outputs are the same. Again, see comments, it should be easy.

This tool is very helpfull. I am trying to add a new function to the existing code to parse the signal level parameter from the output of iwlist wlan0 scan, but I am getting lot of issues .Since I am new to python script can anyone help me to extract the signal level also from the scan put put.
The parametr to be used is Signal level=-44 dBm ,I am trying to create a one more column with Signal level and print its out in the table.
    Example:-
    Signal level
    -44db

  • HDMI doesn't support HDPC

I have been renting movies for about 2 weeks now with no problems. Today I rented/downloaded August Rush and it will not play. I got the message HDMI doesn't support HDCP. What gives? I don't have a Component Video Cable. Is it necessary or is there a gliche?

Saw this on another forum and worked for me when I had same problem.
    try:
    1) turn off TV
    2) unplug AppleTV electrical outlet (only way to turn off)
    3) unplug both ends of HDMI cable
    4) plug it all back in
Should only have to do this on rare occassions such as in my case of doing AppleTV factory reset. Not completely sure why, but it worked. I guess it made AppleTV's HDMI port reset and rescan for HDCP-supported connections.

  • RV120W WAN interface doesn't automatically re-enable after WAN connection is restored

I found that RV120W WAN interface doesn't automatically re-enable after a cable pull and re-plug.  I have to go into the Status->System Summary and click the "Enable" button.  Is this normal on this router?  Can I prevent that from happening? I would hope this is NOT normal as this would mean that I would have to be on-site and login to the web interface to re-enable it after a power failure or WAN link loss.

    Tekliu,
Thanks for the response. But, as I mentioned in my prior post, this is, unfortunately, the designed behavior for this device, at least with a static IP and no ISP login. Cisco Small Business Customer Support was clear on this and didn't even open a ticket. I asked that they submit a feature request to change this behavior in a future release. Of course, they couldn't make any promises.
One possible source of confusion is the different circumstances that can occur. In my testing, the interface does come back up automatically on a soft reboot. It also comes back up automatically if both the RV120W and the upstream (WAN) device are power cycled together. I believe this is because the upstream device comes up much faster and is up before the RV120W. The case we are talking about is when the upstream device is cycled or the cable is pulled while the RV120W stays up. In this case, the WAN port remains disabled until you manually select the button on the status page.
Thanks again for following up on this.

I do not use lightroom and  I have a subscription so I can open all supported RAW formats. You will need DNG file for Your Camera's NEF files for use in Photoshop ACR version.  You can open your NEF files in LR it seems so you could do all your raw conversion with Lightroom and save out Tiff files for processing in Photoshop.   I do use lightroom for I do not need its library.  Lightroom does not support layered files so lightroom is of no value to me.  ACR UI is all I need having a second interface to Adobe Raw Conversion Engine would more annoyance than value to me.

  • Iwlwifi-3945-ucode -- iwlist scan and Wlan LED not working

I am using the iwlwifi-3945-ucode driver to access wireless networks. I can connect to my WPA encrypted wireless LAN using netcfg; however, I cannot scan for any wireless networks around me using 'iwlist scan' or 'iwlist wlan0 scan'. It yields 'no scan results'. 'iwlist scanning' results in one entry showing me the wireless LAN I am connected to.
How can I get iwlist scan to work?
Also, I would like to get a feedback from the wireless LED of my notebook (Thinkpad X60s) telling me if there is anything going on with it.... I used to use thinkpad_acpi earlier, but this doesn't seem to help anymore (not sure if thinkpad_acpi was actually providing this option).
Any ideas how to enable it?
I would really appreciate any help!

    Maybe try as root.
Yeah, root does the trick. Has been changed then, hasn't it? Don't remember to have used root for that one, ever.

I think you have to wait for 2.6.26, but it should not be too far away.
They have taken that one out? See, I had it working about one month ago. Then I decided to set up Arch anew (like two weeks ago, followed by note turning the notebook on for about another week), and now there isn't happening anything. So since the new setup it doesn't work. I am just figuring if I have to modprobe something. Gonna restart now... maybe it helps.

    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/urls/readingWriting.html
As is noted in this part of the tutorial, a URL may simply not support output:
"Next, the program creates the URL object--the URL for the backwards script on java.sun.com--opens a URLConnection, and sets the connection so that it can write to it:
    URL url = new URL("http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/backwards");
    URLConnection c = url.openConnection();
    c.setDoOutput(true);
The program then creates an output stream on the connection and opens a PrintWriter on it:
    PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(c.getOutputStream());
If the URL does not support output, getOutputStream method throws an UnknownServiceException. If the URL does support output, then this method returns an output stream that is connected to the standard input stream of the URL on the server side--the client's output is the server's input. "
Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Perky --
You do not need any "Cleaner" app for Macs.  I would not be at all surprised if that didn't actually damage your Mac, especially if it were MacDefender. Applejack is OK, but I'm not sure what it erased.  Do you know?
You also don't need any Virus Barrier.  That could also mess things up.
The fact that all of your browsers are now messed up indicates that it is not a Safari problem, but more system-wide.
