J2ME / Databases / Xml Parsing

Hi,
I am looking for the best way to use a file as database in an MIDP Application :
I tried to use a CSV File and now i am trying to use an XML File. I use the kXml2 parser.
In both cases, access times are not very acceptable
I wonder whether it depends on the way i am reading files .
i use the following command to access to my file : InputStream in = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/"+filename);
For the CSV File, i use in.read() which enable me to read char by char (maybe it's not the best way ?)
For the XML File, i use a KXmlParser Object with an InputStreamReader. KXmlParser.setInput(InputStreamReader.)
Have you any idea / remark / other thing that can help me in my research.
I d like to improve theses access time...
Thanks a lot,

First how "big" are you records, remember that your application is probably going to run on mobile phones, most of them now have external memory sticks but still most of them have limited build in memory from which you can use.
To use the File Connection API your device must support JSR 75 , which means that your device will probably take external memory or even have a small hard drive.
If your records are small enough , the record store mechanism would suit your needs, else try the File Connection API.
For the File Connection API you use the Generic Connection Framework (GCF) , the same framework you 'll use to make a socket or HTTP connection with your MIDlet. After you established the connection with the device file system, you read and write through the input and output stream classes from the java.io package.
If you have any experience with socket programming its the same concept here.

    I have no ideas why I got this "XML parsing:line 13, character12, unexpected end of input" message. Please kindly help, advise me on where I made mistake and how I can resolve this problem, and respond in this Forum.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Manish, Thanks for your response.
    Yes, it is a duplicate with Qroducts/Qroduct instead of Products/Product. I did it, because I don't know how to remove the existing "Products" database.
    Again, I got the existing "Qroducts" database in this second trial!!??  I am comletely lost in doing "Importing XML file to SQL Table" now!!  I think that I have not touched T-SQL and XML programming, since 2008. I
    did not catch the new features of T-SQL 2008, XML, SQL/XML, XQuery, etc. for long time. Recently, I did not know what DECLARE, @x, SET,...were, and dived into the SQL/XML and XQuery programming. I knew the SQL Basics (SELECT, FROM, WHERE,..), creating
    the names of databases and tables in SQL Server 2008/2012 Management Studio (Express) before. This morning, I found an old T-SQL 2008 Prgrammer's Guide that has the new features of SQL Server 2008 for T-SQL, XML, XQuery, etc. I just starting reading
    it to know what DECLARE, @x, SET,... are. But, I still don't know where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" (created by me) are - they are not in the Databases of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio I am using!!??  Could
    you please kindly point out where the "Products" and "Qroducts" databases are?
    Prashanth responded to my posted question too and he asked to to try his code: DECLARE @xml XML, SELECT @xml =' <Qroducts>.....SELECT product.value.....FROM @XML.nodes.....AS.... I just learned that his code is doing the thing we
    want to do and print the results below the SQL Query. This is not what I need in doing my SQL/XML programming. I am reading/studying the new (2008) features of T-SQL, XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language (Second Edition), and Microsoft XQuery Language Reference
    (SQL Server 2012 Books Online) closely now. I hope that I can resume the T-SQL, XML Query, SQL/XML, XQuery in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio soon.
    Please tell me  where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" I created in my previous trials in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio.  This is what I need to know and to delete them, before I do this kind of "Importing
    XML file to Table of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio"  programming again.
    Please kindly help, advise and respond again.
    Many Thanks,
    Scott Chang

  • Validating XML parser for J2ME?

    Hello,
    does anybody know a validating XML parser for J2ME?
    Thanks

    I mean the XML parser.
    I want to know if there are XML parsers which can validate a XML document against a DTD or Schema

  • What's the best XML parser for J2ME

    Hello,
    has anybody a suggestione about a light and (hopefully) performant opern source XML parser library to use in a J2ME application?
    I'm going to explore Xparse-J and Kxml: Is there anything better?
    Thank you,
    Andrea

    kXML is the most important and popularly use XML parser for KVM. This is a combination of pull parser and the XMLWriter. It coantains a WAP Binary XML and a special kDOM.
    NanoXML is another parser for KVM, which works on push-parsing technology. Now it is not very popular.

  • J2me xml parser

    I need a tree based xml parser for my j2me application called tinyxml_tree.jar
    can anyone suggest where i can get hold of this. pls help

    Hello,
    I think this is the library you are looking for:
    http://kxml.sourceforge.net/
    You may download its sources and add them to your j2me project.
    Good luck.

  • Remove xml parser from the database

    I am deinstalling a version of xml and putting a newer version of
    it. how do i do that? I know that there is something like
    dropjava , but still there are other packages which are loaded
    into the schema. I want to clean out the earlier version and
    install the new version in a clean manner.
    Thanks
    nidhi

    you'll need to write SQL to write SQL
    based on the USER_OBJECTS table
    where:
    SELECT 'drop java class '''&#0124; &#0124;
    dbms_java.longname(object_name)&#0124; &#0124;''';'
    from user_objects where
    OBJECT_TYPE = 'JAVA CLASS'
    and DBMS_JAVA.LONGNAME(OBJECT_NAME)
    LIKE 'oracle/xml/parser/%'
    This will spew out a set of DROP JAVA CLASS
    command which you can capture in a file
    using SQL*Plus':
    SPOOL somefilename
    command. Then run that spool file as a
    SQL script and all the right classes
    will be dropped.

  • HOW TO: Use the XML parser in Oracle 8.1.7

    I am trying to figure out how to use the xml parser provided in oracle 8.1.7. all i want to do is parse a xml report that is defined using a schema, and place the data into the proper tables. i am totally unfamiliar with the xml parser and how it works. i have done some reading on the subject, but seem to be getting some conflicting infromation about which utilites i need and how to invoke them. can someone please tell me what utilities i need, how to invoke them, and what i need to do to get a xml document to parse and insert to a table? I would greatly appreciate any help anybody could offer. thanks.

    You can parse the XML Document with XML Parser and place the data into database using XSU(XML SQL Utility).
    Both of these are included in XDK for Java at:
    http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/xdk_java

    What does the XML look like? It appears that some of the supposed XML stored as a CLOB is not really valid XML. Find the row in the table that is causing your issue and review the "XML" in it.

    first thanks for your reply,
    i already figured that out and deployed it using 10.1.3.1 jars
    my question
    1) if it is a bug , how come it works fine with jdeveloper (
    i would appreciate if you could provide any info about it.
    2) i dont want to sound sarcastic , but 10.1.3.1 has of optimistic locking and the recommended solution i found was to use descriptor.getQueryManager().setUpdateCallCacheSize(0);
    looks like 10.1.3.1 fixed one bug and introduced other one which was working fine earlier...
    is there any other way of fixing optimistic locking issue other than using the
    descriptor.getQueryManager().setUpdateCallCacheSize(0);
    where i can find the latest/greatest (up to date patched version of toplink)
    thanks again for your help

      I got the above error before calling to human task from my BPEL process. Any idea?

    Assuming this is SOA Suite 11g. Did you start the WLS with UTF8? Is your database using UTF8?
    Nothing else is supported.
    If you are on unix.
    $ export LANG="en_US.utf8"
    $ export LC_ALL="en_US.utf8"
    Then locale should display something like this
    $ locale
    LANG=en_US.utf8
    LC_CTYPE="en_US.utf8"
    LC_COLLATE="en_US.utf8"
    LC_MONETARY="en_US.utf8"
    LC_NUMERIC="en_US.utf8"
    LC_TIME="en_US.utf8"
    LC_MESSAGES="en_US.utf8"
    LC_ALL=en_US.utf8
    And then you should be able to start the SOA Suite correctly.

  • Oracle.xml.parser.v2.XSLException: XSL-1045

    I'm trying to migrate from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7. In 8.1.6, I have a working java stored procedure that implements an extended namespace in XSL. I deployed the same working code in 8.1.7 and got the following error.
    processor.processXSL(styleSheet,xmlDoc)>>
    oracle.xml.parser.v2.XSLException: XSL-1045:
    Extension function error: Class not found 'com/redknife/util/xslExtend'
    The xslExtend class is loaded via loadjava and resolves with no errors. Is there a difference between the 8.1.6 implementation and 8.1.7?
    - Craig

    I've recreated the database and the instance...I've loaded all the classes and they are valid... The exact code set works in 8.1.6 but not in 8.1.7.
    Here lies the difference. In 8.1.6, I loaded the xmlparserv2.jar, but hoping for the natively compiled version being preloaded in 8.1.7, I did not load it. The error then occurs. I did a dropjava on the xmlparserv2.jar, and then a loadjava, and now it works.
    My assumption is that it was the natively compiled xml parser that made the difference. Once I removed it, and replaced it with byte code, everything worked.
    Hope I'm wrong... Craig

  • Problem in XML Parsing via oracle procedure...

    Hi,
    I wrote one oracle procedure for xml parsing.
    I have one valid xml file which has "encode UTF-8". The XML file contains some comments also. While we are parsing the xml file at that time it is not parse successfully and also it is not giving any error. After the following line it is skip rest of the codes(lines).
    dbms_xmlparser.parseclob(l_parser, l_clob);
    At the end of the xml file there are some comments which is like "<!-- abc --> ".
    When I am changing the "encode UTF-8 to ISO-88596-1" & removing the comments which wrote on bottom of the file then its working fine, but the files which we are getting from the system is contains the encode UTF-8 and we don't want to preprocess on that xml files. Even if we will do that via shell script or perl script then it will be overhead to the system and in a single stroke our system will parse more than 5k xml files, so if we will do some preprocess on it, it will take some more time approx 1-2 minutes extra.
    So, If someone knows any solution of this problem, then please guide & help me on this.
    My xml file structure is as follows:-
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <mcd xmlns:HTML="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml">

    Sorry Odie,
    I am new to this site as well as PL/SQL. I am giving additional details which you had mentioned in your last comments.
    our Oracle Database version is "10.2.0.4.0"
    The structure of target table Instrument_Details is as follows:
    Create table Instrument_Details (
    instrument_id          Integer  Primary Key,
    provider_name          Varchar2(32),
    version_number          Varchar2(32),
    location_id                  Integer,
    installation_date             Date,
    granularity                  Integer,
    time_out                  Integer );
    Note:- Here test_hem is alias of Instrument_details.
    Here instrument_id is a primary key.
    provider_name contains the child2 xml tag value.
    version_number contains the child1 xml tag value.
    location_id contains the newid/id value which is map to other table which fetching the location name corresponding to the location_id.
    installation_date contains the date xml tag value.
    Now we have created one mapping tables where we mapped the xml tag values "mt" with table column name means "abc1 = granularity", "abc2 = time_out" in that table.
    these table column value are written under mvalue xml tag.
    _Our Database Character set is_:-
    NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
    Now as you suggest me to format your code. I am writing the xml code and procedure code again.
    My xml file structure is as follows:-

  • XML Parsing in Java Stored Proc--Oracle XML Support Installation?

    I am working with a third party product that is having difficulty running a java stored proc that is parsing a supplied XML file. The proc basically looks like:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError;
    import javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    InputStream is = getXMLAsInputStream(xml);
    try {
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory =
    DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse( is );
    ... parse the document ....
    catch (FactoryConfigurationError e) {
    // unable to get a document builder factory
    We are running on 9.2.0.6, HP-UX 64-bit. At first, when we would attempt to run the proc, a database hang would occur; now after attempting to install using loadjava jars for xerces2.6: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError: Provider
    org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl not found)
    The vendor says that the errors we are getting when running are not due to any dependency on xerces or jre1.4, and that we need to "install Oracle XML support", but I'm not certain what this means (I cannot find any documentation on what to install). I believe that there are jars that need to be loaded into the database to support the XML parsing, as jre1.3 does not include built-in XML support, and Oracle 9.2.0.6 uses jre1.3.
    So...does anyone have any thoughts as to how to resolve the missing references? Is there a way to "install Oracle XML support", or is it to install the necessary jars?
    Thanks,
    Candi

    Candi,
    The following resources should be of help:
    Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2) Documentation Library
    In particular, check out the following:
    Java Developer's Guide
    Java Stored Procedures Developer's Guide
    XML API Reference - XDK and Oracle XML DB
    XML Database Developer's Guide - Oracle XML DB
    XML Developer's Kits Guide - XDK
    If that doesn't help, then try the following:
