Jabber-config.xml no longer UTF-8 after TFTP Server upload?

I have a good jabber-config.xml I edited in Notepad++ and saved (UTF-8) and I upload it to TFTP via CMPlatform on CCM 9.1.2.11900-12. I've done this in the past a lot with 8.6.2, never had any issues.
I then restart CUCM TFTP services and download;
C:\>tftp 10.7.8.3 GET jabber-config.xml
Transfer successful: 2390 bytes in 1 second(s), 2390 bytes/s
I then open up my downloaded jabber-config.xml in Notepad++ and it says the file format is UCS-2 Litle Indian and not UTF-8 and looks like the attached photo. Greek. I tried in Notepad++ to convert.
I then setup a different test PC with Windows XP, etc. Same issue, also note that plain notepad sees the same problem. Why is the jabber-config.xml file getting corrupted by the TFTP server?

ChojinDSL wrote:Do you have a firewall running on that server?
Are your clients also using systemd?
Yes I do have a firewall, iptables, and it's the same configuration from before the migration to systemd. Also note that I can access the shares when explicitly defining the path whether that's in a File Manager, cli or other so access isn't being blocked. For lack of a better explanation the whole thing gives the appearance that although the Share is active it's just not broadcasting it's existence like it should be.
I have two PC's, both Arch, one with Openbox and one running KDE that I have migrated to systemd. Both can access the Share when the path is explicitly defined but don't see it when trying to just browse for the the Share. I have a Xoom tablet, running Android Jelly Bean, that exhibits the same behavior. I also have two media players, one an older WD LiveTV Plus model the other a newer WD LiveTV model, neither of which can see the share and browsing is the only option for those devices. So I've got a pretty good assortment of devices and operating systems that could see the share when browsing previously but can not see the same share by browsing since the migration to systemd on the file server.
Thank you.

• Struggling to understand Service Profiles and jabber-config.xml

Hi,
I am doing my first Jabber 9.1 deployment and am striggling to understand the use of Service Profiles.
Lots of documentation I have seen states that the jabber-config.xml file should be manually edited then uploaded to the CUCM TFTP servers.
However much of the information contained in this file seems to be the same as that specified in Service Profiles.
When should I use Service Profiles? - do they generate the default jabber-config.xml file or do they have some other purpose?
The documentation seems confused and contradictory!
Thanks

Neither wins. The client will use one or the other depending on the platform and version.
I am struggling to like Jabber - it seems there is a lack of quality documentation and lots of gotchas for the unwary.
I can sympothize with that opinion. There is documentation but it sort of assumes you already know how the puzzle should look and only need guidence on completing individual tasks. The gotchas are a byproduct of the speed they are running development at. IMO this will settle down a bit around the 10.0 release of the *clients* (which will be after the system release of the server software). Every solution has gotchas, we're just a bit battle-weary of them on this one.
For the moment, Jabber mastery is sort of a rare skillset similar to CCX: many can script, few can do it well. Few can make Jabber "sing" at the moment.

• Details of jabber-config.xml

Is there any place on the net that has a listing of all the possible switches for the jabber-config.xml file? I saw on another post that it was possible to force jabber to start automatically using the config file, but then went on to say how to do it in the registry. No explanation was given for how to add that switch to the config file.
There may be more options worth purusing as well, but without knowing what options are potentially available, I have no idea which to use.
Thanks,

The Jabber for Windows Administration Guide explains many of the available elements. I suggest you use the Jabber Config File Generator instead of going at it manually; it does a great job of building the file for you.

• Auto update via Jabber-Config.xml file

All,
I wan't to force J4W updates via the jabber-config.xml file, but that's the only thing I want to do. Can the jabber-config.xml file be populated only with the auto update option and nothing else so the user still has control over their own client's options? Or, do the rest of the options need to be defined within the xml file as well? The install guide seems to indicate that one can pick and choose the J4W options they want to globally set within the jabber-config.xml file, but it's not entirely clear.
Thanks,
Joe.

Hi Joe,
yes, you are right. You only have to define settings in the jabber-config.xml file that are not default. Everything else stays default.

• ConfigArchive FolderDisappears After config.xml Is Corrupted

Has anyone seen this problem (and know if this is a known bug)? This is easily
reproducible:
1. Verify that you have the configArchive folder with backup configs in them.
2. Shutdown managed servers and Admin server.
3. Edit the config.xml (intentionally corrupt it, we are just doing this to demonstrate
what may happen if it is corrupted).
3. Try starting up the servers. It will obviously fail.
4. Check to see if configArchive folder is there. It should still be there.
5. Edit the config.xml or restore your saved working copy.
6. Restart the servers.
7. Shut them down again in the correct sequence of course (managed first, then
admin).
8. Check the configArchive folder. This time it's gone! All your backups are
gone.
Has anyone run into this? Is this an expected outcome? I would expect the backup
folder to be there permanently when corruptions like this occur, and not disappear.
Please let me know if I am missing the point or the purpose of this backup folder.

Fred,
This feature will allow you to recover your configuration incase of a
server crash. Lets say you have started a server and made a lot of edits
to your configuration through the console or weblogic.Admin. Now for
some reason the server crashed and that corrupted your config.xml, what
would you do? You cannot start the server since the config.xml is
corrupt. All the edits that you made to your server are lost.
This feature will allow you to get back to the last configuration edit
that you have made to the server, you can pick the latest file from the
configArchive directory and replace your config.xml (which might be
currupt, because of server crash) and go from there.
Hope it helped .. :-).
Thanks,

• Jabber-config for IOS devices - Set_Status_Inactive_Timeout option \ chat problem

Is there any possibility to change Set_Status_Inactive_Timeout for IOS clients to 60 min or to disable it with jabber-config.xml file? I've changed Set_Status_Inactive_Timeout option but int take no effect. After user log in to device the Set_Status_Inactive_Timeout is default 15 min (even after jabber reset).
The main goal is to set this timeout by jabber-config but not users. And the main problem is that the user that goes inactive and is in active chat don't receive messages from other participants of chat any more (simply leaves it).
maybe persistent chat can save the situation but our CUMP (v 9.1.1) can not implement this option.
CUCM v. 9.1.2
Jabber IOS Ipad v. 10.5.2

After contacting Cisco TAC no solution to this problem was provided they said "" As of now we don’t have this timer, Set_Status_Inactive_Timeout, yet supported on IPad". So maybe later they will provide this function in updated app.

• Merge config.xml

Hi,
WLS 6.1
Is there a xsl stylesheet that merges two config.xml files?
The idea is the following:
We have a master config.xml, configuring the admin server and the core of
our product.
For each optional part of our product, we have a specific config.xml file,
defining servers, connection pools, JMS pool, and so on. Some of these
configuration files might reference the same server.
We would like to include each of those specific config.xml into the main
one, avoiding duplication of server definitions, pools, etc...
It seems that a xsl stylesheet could do that (at least for one specific
config.xml), but I did not find anything. Does anyone have any idea on how
to do this?
Thanks,
Patrick

Remove duplicate server from config.xml with xslt:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output encoding="ISO-8859-1" version="1.0" method="xml" />
<xsl:template match ="/">

Hi Arulazi,
Adding to Michael Wooten's post, the change you make (via the Tools ->
Preferences -> Path -> Port) only changes the port number to which Workshop
connects to. This will be used when you want the same IDE to connect to
different workshop enabled WebLogic Servers.
This change will not be reflected in the config.xml file.
The information will be updated in the .workshop file found in the
C:\Documents and Settings\username directory.
If you want to change the listen port for the server you will have to edit

• Any config.xml fields not viewable/editable in admin console?

While reading through the WL 10.3 docs, I discovered something very unexpected. There are some attributes that you can define in the config.xml that are not viewable or editable in the admin console. I found this in the "Programming WebLogic JTA" manual. The attributes in question are "MaxResourceUnavailableMillis", "MaxResourceRequestOnServer", and "MaxXACallMillis" in the JTA section.
Is this unique? Are there other elements or attributes that can only be viewed or set in the config.xml, and not in the admin console?

• Apex-config.xml is broken after password change with encryption

Greetings,
I am using Apex Listener 1.1 with Oracle GlassFish Open Source Edition 3.1.
I found something strange when changing the connection password in apex-config.xml.
If I change the password to keep it plain text like the following, it works fine.

my_password

But if I change the password to a value to be encrypted, the new password is accepted but the configuration file get messed up.

!my_password2

After restarting the listener, I get the following content in my apex-config.xml.

• Changing faces-config.xml after deploying ear file

Hi,
What would be the steps to follow if we want to change contenets of web application configuration files (for example, faces-config.xml) after app.ear file has been deployed?
The app.ear file contains the faces-config.xml, and we are using Oracle AS 10.1.3.
Thanks,
Jean

• Missing config.xml after unpacking

Hi, I installed 11g on two machines. I'm following the steps on the wonderweblogic post mostly except that instead of copying the whole directory, I wanted to use the pack utilities. When I setup the domain, I created a cluster of two machines. Then I used pack.sh and passed it -managed=true. Then I unpacked it on my second machine. The directory structure looks ok. When I try to start up the second machine with startManagedWeblogic.sh server2, I get:
weblogic.management.ManagementException: [Management:141249]The configuration directory /home/weblogic/test/config is missing the file config.xml and the admin server is not available to download it.
at weblogic.management.provider.internal.RuntimeAccessImpl.parseNewStyleConfig(RuntimeAccessImpl.java:213)
There isn't a config.xml on this machine but there is a config_bootstrap.xml that looks correct..similar to the config.xml from the first machine. The first machine's admin server and managed server are both running correctly. What did I do wrong? thanks.

I use this sort of syntax, explicitly giving the domain directory.
./pack.sh -managed=true -domain=/orclapps/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/SOADomain -template=/tmp/soa_domain_template.jar -template_name=soa_domain_template
and then on the 2nd node ( after copying the template jar )
./unpack.sh -domain=/orclapps/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/SOADomain -template=/tmp/soa_domain_template.jar
