Jar files. HELP!!!

Hi Im having trouble interacting with a database via an applet. I have to create a JAR file? Im highly confused on how to set up this an allow my class file to have the needed permission?
thanks

you don't need a JAR to make an applet contact a database, however you need the JDBC driver or use the JDBC-ODBC bridge..
this is a simple test applet I have created to add a record to a database table, it uses the mySQL JDBC driver...check it out:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.sql.*;
public class AppletAlphabet extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
     JButton buttonOK = new JButton("Add Record");
     JTextField firstname = new JTextField();
     JTextField lastname = new JTextField();
     JTextField address = new JTextField();

          int gw,
          int gh,
          int wx,
          int wy) {
          gbc.gridx = gx;
          gbc.gridy = gy;
          gbc.gridwidth = gw;
          gbc.gridheight = gh;
          gbc.weightx = wx;
          gbc.weighty = wy;

  • Beginner: Can't convert a hello.class file into a jar file: HELP PLEASE!!!

    Hi, I created a hello.java file, converted into a hello.class file by using the java 2SDk compiler. The problem is that the hello.class file is in a directory I created: C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class
    I have a problem converting the hello class file into a jar file. I don't know which approach to take. I've looked at tutorials...but I keep getting more confused each time I view the tutorials on creating jar files. Please can someone help..by taking me through a step by step process. Please be explicit and do not leave or assume that I know any details because I'm a new born beginner. Thank you very much, I seriously appreciate it.

    Hi i did as you suggested, only with these exceptions:
    jar -cvf hello.jar C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class
    I did this and got the message: "adding : C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class (in=1150) (out=708) (deflated=38%)"
    The problem is that when I tried to execute the jar file...by typing: " java -jar hello.jar" I received the error message: "Failed to load Main-Class Manifest attribute from hello.jar" Is there any way to correct this problem? please help, thank you.

  • Jar file helper application

    I have a file extension (.hgf) that I would like to associate with with a Java jar file. I'm running Ubuntu 11.11 and in Dolphin (the file manager GUI) I use "java -jar ~/Havannah/HGui/HGui.jar" as my 'open with' and clicking on hgf files in Dolphin will automatically run my HGui.jar program with the clicked file as input.
    When I try to do the same thing in Friefox with 'open with' I cannot get it to work. The file gets saved in /tmp but HGui never seems to run on it. I've tried various combinations of quotes, putting the command into a shell script, etc., but cannot seem to get the click and open behavior I would love to see.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

    Simply putting the path to the jar file (making no mention of Java) and making the jar file executable was enough to make it work. This did not work in Dolphin so I did not even try it in Firefox -- until I got desperate.

    I have to say, that although this has nothing to do with me, I'd like to pass some comment. This attitude is prevalent throughout the forums and how can people be expected to gain experience if their efforts will be down-played and you try to make them accountable for their ignorance? It's a contradiction in terms. This is a large forum with more than a lifetimes worth of reading for those of us with a life.
    America70 has given you all the information you require to develop a resolve. I think he/she was depending on you perhaps being aware of a common issue he/she may have overlooked. I would treat that as misplaced respect personally, however, you could have steered him/her towards passing you further detail of his/her issue so that the issue could be resolved. Instead, this query remains, pointlessly, filling up space and uselessly guiding other new leaners no-where.
    You guys may be offering your advice for 'free' but you are also advocates for the language in doing so. Surely you should be making greater efforts to promote the language instead of forcing people to steer clear of attempting to expand their knowledge? It's just an opinion...
    *free - I use this term loosely because the cost to the learner is far from free, the expense being the mentors ego.
    In reference to the above post, America70 had simply made a typo in his/her query to you, not mis-spelt it in his/her implementation; he/she explained that. If he/she is required to add more detail, then politely ask him/her to. America70 also pointed out that he/she had followed the tutorial. It is obvious he/she has mis-read, mis-understood, or badly-impemented something. He/she has obviously overlooked this and is unable to discover the fault. It's not rocket science. If you people can't positively add to this post then what is your use as a helper/teacher?

  • Code ran fine in Eclipse, no output as a Jar file..help!

    I have been working on a piece of code that reads an excel spreadsheet, and writes xml files based on that. (I'm to cheap to buy the numerous software out there)
    The code ran beautifully in Eclipse, and all the right dialog windows and console outputs were present, as well as the final product, about 250 XML files.
    I exported the src to a sealed jar file and ran it.
    I get the first few dialogs that ask info of me, but as soon as it starts the process I get nothing!...
    no exceptions, no errors, no xml...does anyone know what i did wrong?
    Thanks so much for the help.

    we can't help you if we don't know the real probelm you've got.
    use an error logger like log4j http://logging.apache.org/log4j/docs/index.html and report the exception messages.

  • How to bundle java help class into jar file ?

    Hi, all,
    I have some package in my project, with which I have a java help jar file as classpath, when I run my project, I need the jh.jar file in directory /jar/jh.jar.
    Now, I bundled all my class packages into a jar file, my.jar, together with the /jar directory. When i run my jar file with command:
    java -jar my.jar
    It tells me couldn't find javahelp class.
    What shall I do? How can I create my jar file with the jh.jar?
    Thanks in advance.

    I think you'd be better off just adding the jh.jar as
    a classpath argument and running it like that:
    java -classpath /myjavalibdir/jh.jar -jar myjar.jar
    ...otherwise you're stepping into redistribution of
    binary issues licensing-wise. That won't work either; when you run java with the -jar option, it ignores both the -classpath option and the CLASSPATH environment variable. However, it will see jh.jar automatically if you put it in the <path-to-java>/jre/lib/ext directory. But for distribution purposes, it might be simpler just to combime the contents of jh.jar into myjar.jar (if you use Ant, its <jar> task makes that very easy). Or, you can just run it this way:java -classpath myjar.jar;jar/jh.jar MyMainClassBTW, I don't think redistribution is a problem; otherwise how anyone even use JavaHelp?

  • Help---- creation of jar file

    hi,
    i have developed a application with swing concept and mysql as my database... now i am trying to create jar file for my application... in the manifest file i have given like this:
    class-path: C:\Program Files\MySQL\mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin;
    Main-Class: Login
    but still it throws an exception that main class: could not be found:
    can any one help me...
    Thank u in advance..
    Abdul

    For a classpath it is easy to forget to add code]//.;[ to the classpath and you also want to add %CLASSPATH%; as well
    example classpath=.;%CLASSPATH%;...........rest of libs/jars the dot tells jvm to search current directory just like in DOS

  • Help needed with jar file

    hi, first of all sorry if my post is in wrong forum...but my application is done using swing so i am posting this here....and regarding my question...
    I have made an GUI using Java swings and my application is working fine. Now i want to make an executable jar file for my GUI. I have read some tutorilas on making jar files and this is what i have done...
    i have created a manifest file called mainClass.txt which has
    Main-Class: MainWindow ,where MainWindow is my main class name.
    Then i ran the jar utility with this command line:
    jar cmf mainClass.txt example.jar *.class
    With this line, I told jar to create a JAR file (option c) with modifications to the manifest file (option m) as specified within mainClass.txt, naming the JAR file (option f) as example.jar and including everything that matches the pattern *Class
    everything is file till now but my problem is ...I have some library files from JFreechart software included in my GUI to generate barcharts..How can i include these library files in my example.jar file..
    Kindly help me
    Thanks
    byee

    I had this problem too. I ran my program out of JCreator and it worked flawlessly. I jarred it up into and Executable Jar and I would get a runtime error explaning I have not included the correct libraries.
    What I did was look at the error, for example say it said something like:
    org.uhoh.PathSys ClassDefNotFound (or something similar to this)
    What I did was extract the library that contained that class file. Then in my project file where I kept my classes I made the folder org, then in org I made uhoh. Inside uhoh I copied over PathSys.class.
    I hope I addressed the problem you speak of. I am only a novice but this is how I figured it out. If anyone knows a better way let us know =D

  • Including helper classes in java proxy jar file

    I must not be using the right header search criteria because I'm sure this question
    has been asked before. In a Web Service File (.jws) I've imported a couple of
    helper classes that function as data transfer objects. I did this to maintain
    consistency with other portions of the application. The Java Proxy jar file generated
    by Workshop does not include these files. Is there a way of including these dependencies
    or do I need to distribute another jar file with my helper classes?

    Hi Naichen,
    I was able to successfully run both the autotype and clientgen Ant task, on the
    WSDL you provided. The code behind those Ant tasks are pretty much what the WebLogic
    Web Services test page run. Are you using WLS 8.1 SP2? If not, you might want
    to try with that version.

  • Help with JAR Files

    OK, folks, I need some help here...
    And I have researched on this prior to this post, but I still don't get it.
    I have a simple application in Reminder.java file. When I compile it, I get Reminder.class and Reminder$ReminderThread.class, because I have an inner class.
    I place those files in Reminder directory. I want to make an executable JAR file, so I made a manifest file outside the Reminder directory that contains these lines
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: Reminder.Remindersince the Reminder.class is within the Reminder directory, I understood I had to have a prefix "Reminder."
    In the command line, I type
    jar cmf manifest Reminder.jar Reminder/Reminder.class Reminder/Reminder$ReminderThread.classAnd I do get a Reminder.jar file, but when I double-click on it, I get a popup saying "Could not find the main class. Program will exit!"
    So, what am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? As I said, I have researched, but I can't understand what went wrong nor how to fix the problem.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Never mind, I solved it, I was missing a carriage return in my manifest file. I feel so stupid now...

    Help using jar file!
    Hello
    I have created a jar file by using
    jar cvmf Manifest.txt myjar.jar 1.class Mydirectory
    In 1.java file :I have used
    JEditorPane editor;
    editor.setPage(getClass().getResource("/Mydirectory/default.htm"));
    If I am only giving myjar.jar file to the client without Mydirectory then also it is working fine by showing default.htm in JeditorPane.
    But my problem is I want to use
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start IEXPLORE"+targetstr) ;
    targetstr will be the filename with path of the default.htm
    If I am giving myjar.jar file with Mydirectory to the client it is working but I don't want to give Mydirectory to the client .
    What should I do?
    Is there any solution for this?
    Using another jar file which will include mydirectory can solve this problem?
    Is there any othe concept in java so that I wll be able to hide Mydirectory from client?
    Please help.

    It seems like you could extract the .htm file from the jar, either with Runtime.exec or using the Jar API classes.
