Java and HTTP
I have programmed an interface program and i wish to use Java to send a search request with 1 or more search strings to a particular URL and retrieve the search results(if any) from the website for my interface program to manipulate and display it on screen to the user. This request and retrieval of search results is supposed to be transparent to the user. Does anyone knows if this is possible? And if it is, which Java API should i look into?
do you want to create a application accessible through the web? then the previous poster is correct.
If you want to connect to an application (of your own or someone else) from your java application you want to look at java.net.HttpURLConnection

when I start a java applet behind a proxy server, a http request can be used by setting proxy variables http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort.
but is there any way I can get these values from the browser setting(or the internect connection LAN settings on the user's PC)? for the simplest case lets assume we are using internet explorer.
please let me know on how this can be done?
thanks! To my knowledge, the default situation is that the proxy will be set by the browser.

Java and Http posting through Peoplesoft.
Hello everyone, not sure if you can help, but any input or ideas would be appreciated because I ran out of ideas.
I created a java file that connects to a xyhtos server (WebDAV connection). The reason of this project is to be able to upload files to the xythos repository via peoplesoft pages. Uploading the files is fine and works great.
My problem is getting a ticket from it. (A ticket is a string that is appended in the url of the document that is being requested without having the user login to xythos). To get such ticket I need to send login information to the server via a post method. The userid/password needs to be sent through a string that is base64Encode.
When I execute this method the xythos server does not receive login information.
Now here is the strange part, if I execute the same Java program from a Unix command line, with the same parameters, it performs beautifully.
I'm wondering if there is something extra that I need to do when running this java program through PIA. Or if the peoplesoft server needs to be configured a certain way to allow such methods.
If you need me to be more specific or anything that could help you help me, please post. I'm desperate.
Thank you.HI Jim, thank you for replying.
Unfortunately I can't tell exactly how it's posting because I'm using a package created by another department I work with. If I need to upload a file, delete a file, create directories, all of that is fine. The only trouble is requesting a ticket from xythos. I think for that function it is doing an http post, but not positive. The response I get from the server is
<html><title>Error 401</title><body>
Error: 401
<BR><H1>Forbidden</H1><BR>That action is not authorized. Please ensure that you are authenticated.<BR>
<p><p></p></p>
</body></html>
I just don't understand why through the command line of unix it works and PIA it doesn't. Very strange. -
Communicate link between Java and ABAP Stack for https
I have configured https in both the java and abap stacks (we have a double stack configuration). Due to our future configuration I have changed the hostnames to fully qualified hostnames per SAP instructions.
The question I have is does anyone know what RFC destinations or JCo settings I need to change to make https complete?
I have the problem where when I fire off the Integration Builder from within the ABAP stack (SXMB_IFR) I get a straight hostname (no domain name). Where is this configured? Any help is appreciated..Check the exchange profile (Administratio tab in /rep/start/index.jsp page; you will have to enter it manually since it is throwing error from SXMB_IFR).

Error Message when installing Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP Server
Hi. First time forum user so bear with me.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but the assistance of anyone who may be able to shed some light on the problem whould be greatly appreciated. I am having a problem when attempting to install the Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP Server, details given below:
The following Oracle components have been successfully installed
Oracle 10gR2 Database.
Oracle 10gR2 Database patch 10.2.03.
Critical patch up date (security).
The following Oracle component failed to install.
Companion CD for HTMLDB 1.6 and HTTP server
Scenario leading up to failure
Extracted companion CD installation files to D:\oracle\utilities\Oracle_10_2_0_Companion
Executed D:\oracle\utilities\Oracle_10_2_0_Companion\companion\setup.exe.
The following error message is displayed in a "JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE LAUNCHER" dialog box
"Could not find the main event class. Program will exit."
I have been attmepting to resolve this problem for over a week and have already checked the following with no resolution to the problem:
Cause. This issue may have to do with two issues (and may occur more on Windows):-
1. Within the ORACLE_HOME directory full pathname there is a space.
2. The directory from where the software / patch is being installed has a space within the directory full
pathname (where the file for the installation by default is named products.jar or products.xml).
Solution. To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:-
1. Rename the full pathname directory NOT to contain a space.
2. Launch again the OUI... and verify if the problem occurs.
Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Edited by: user10386555 on 03-Oct-2008 02:51Can you install using OUI from the RDBMS installation? IIRC, there is a problem using OUI on companion to install companion items.

BI Java and BI ABAP -RSPLAN issue
Hi All
We are working with BI system ,using BI 7.0 Java and BI ABAP as separate systems on same host.
Already run the template intaller for BI Java and ABAP integration.
But facing some issue ,when going ot BI ABAP and RSPLAN and clicking the Start Mideller
it is opening a browser as http://host:8000/sap/public/myssocntl?sap-client-XXX
Since this is not correct and it should open BI Java portal instead of ABAP stack page.
Instead this should open a Url like this http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler?
I check on BI ABAP system under SAP Reference IMG -> SAP Customizing Implementation Guide-> SAP NetWeaver _> Business Intelligence-> BI Integrated Planning -> Settings for Starting the Planning Modeler.
There the default Url is BEx Portal Server and the url is
http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler
Can anybody let me know why this is going to ABAP server instead it should go to Java.

Ajay

Compability problem with Java and Python RSA algorithm implementation
I have client server application. Server is writtein in python, client in java. Client receives messages from server encrypted with RSA (http://stuvel.eu/rsa), and I'm unable to decrypt it. It seems that this is RSA algorithm compatibility problem. I'm using algorithm from java.security package, instatinating Cipher object like this: c = Cipher.getInstance("RSA"); . I noticed that this algorithm produces for input blocks of lengtrh <=117 ouput block of length 128. Server I guess uses the most triviall impelentation of RSA ( (1 byte is encrypted to 1 byte) So i want to make my java algorithm compatibile with this one which server uses. How to do that ? Do i have to instatinate Cipher object in different way ? Or use another library ?
azedor wrote:
First you said it was no good because it could only handle <= 117 byte inputs, now you say it is no good because it produces a 128-byte output. You're not making sense.First i said that this two RSA implementations are not compatibile, and first reason i noticed firstly is that Python imlementation for input of length N produces cryptogram of the same length. Not true. In general, the RSA encryption of any number of bytes less than the length of the modulus will produce a result of length near that of the modulus. When N is less than the length of the modulus, it is rare that N bytes of cleartext produces N bytes of ciphertext.
Java implementation for data block of length <=117 produces alwasy 128 bytes of output.Pretty much correct and very much desirable. This is primarily a function of the PKCS1 padding which is used to solve two basic problems. First, as I alluded to in my first response, it is the nature of the algorithm that leading zeros are not preserved and second when the cleartext is very small (a few bytes) the exponentiation does not roll over and it is easy to decrypt the result. Both these problems are addressed by PKCS1 padding.

After what sabre150 said i think of giving up idea of translating Python code to Java and considering to use another assymetric cryptography algorithms on both sides. Can you recommend me sth what should be compatibile with Python ?This seems to be at odds with your statement in reply #3 "Also have acces only to client code so i have to change sth in java." ! This statement is why I said "I suspect ... you have dug a deep hole".
In your position I would use the Python bindings for openssl. Once more, Google is your friend. -
[Java and all else] How do you document DB design?
Hello,
Although most of the technical choices are explicit in SQL (UniqueKey & ForeignKey constraints, indexes,...), the semantics of the data columns and their constraints seem better served as plain human-readable comments ("ID column: identifies the plane copy; 6 figures are enough as we don't expect to sell more than 1 million planes in a foreseeable future...").
In my current system, (EJB-based, but the DB schema is not created by the JPA-compliant ORM, but via SQL scripts), I see the following ways to write and maintain this documentation:
- SQL comments in the schema creation and patch scripts
- Javadoc comments in the Java source of the Entity classes.
- UML notes in UML diagrams(1)
- external "Architecture and design" document.
All 4 of them are used, sometimes inconsistently, for various parts of the design choices; I mean, the docs do not contradict themselves (not yet, but it's a mere question of time), but some tables are commented in SQL scripts, others are in design docs, and the details for some columns are in entity javadocs. Although each developer may find it handier to "write" the doc via his preferred medium, it becomes increasingly difficult to "maintain" theoverall documentation.
Our current situation is that most of the project team members are Java developers, so it would probably be better accepted and served if we standardized that we document DB tables and columns in Java source, but I am worried that:
- someone else pouring over our DB (ex: DBA helping us to optimize things, or other team developping a data-mining tool to leverage the historical data in DB) may not be as comfortable with Java
- this may not cover all design choices of the DB schema:
- - - - first, although that is the case currently, in the future there might not be a 100% 1-1 mapping between e.g. each entity class and a DB table. Maybe some columns will not need to be mapped anymore,...
- - - - second, I fear some DB constructs are not amenable to Java counterparts; no accurate idea there, I'm not an SQL nor JPA expert, but I presume Indexes, table partitioning, tablespaces, for example (yes, the DBMS is Oracle :o) are not taken into account in JPA mapping.
And if we document those choices at the SQL level (my preferred idea so far), this will gradually make the javadocs in the entities obsolete, or removed altogether, and that will make future maintenance of the Java source risky.
How do you document your DB design in general?
Do you have specific advices for my case?
Thanks in advance,
J.
(1) Just for the record, here are a few posts that refer to modelling the DB in UML:

P.S.: "Java and all else" as in, damn, I'd love to use the familiar JDC forums and people to discuss not only Java-related issues, but also [all other things that surround Java|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5422264&tstart=0] (other technologies, processes, people) and enable to make workable systems out of Java code.jduprez wrote:
Thank you again.
A couple more questions:
2. Table, and proc dictionary maintained as one or more text files. Those files and schema are all in source control.Do you mean, a proprietary text format (a la tabledesign.txt), or +.sql+ source files? Again, you seem to suggest the scehma info is present in two locations.I didn't say two locations unless you meant files. Then yes.Yes I meant two files. I trust the team to get the doc file lagging a few revisions behind the SQL file, and to correct that I would have to include one more step in the review process (e.g. "review CM actions to check that the doc file is updated consistently with the SQL source").
The tool I wrote would throw errors if the comment file didn't match the schema. And if comments were not provided. That of course doesn't stop someone from documenting a table with "a table".
You can of course keep the addtional info as special comments in the SQL, but when I did this, and even in retrospect, it seems better and perhaps easier to keep them seperate. I have done special comments in SQL before and it seems a bit of a kluge but you do have the single source. But in that case I was the only one maintaining it too. What do you mean by "special"?For code generation I have a schema file with the following (pseudo sql.)
create mytable
mytable_id int,
column_foo varchar(10);
column_fum varchar(20)
-- Query: for_a_query (column_foo, column_fum)
)The generator consumes the schema and generates the standard CRUD which would include a query based on the primary key.
The above comment is used to provide an additional query where the proc is named 'for_a_query' (munged with table name) and takes two parameters (column_foo, column_fum) whose type/name matches those of the table.
If we don't try to generate a browseable HTML out of the schema (although the idea is appealing, I don't have the resource to make such a tool), do you see anything kludgy in maintaining SQL comments interpersed within DDL code?
Of course that is doable. -
We have no problem using JDK 1.1.5. However, we are using Orbixweb. If
you are accessing the applet and the IOR file from the same host (exact
host name), then one other possibility is the JVM compatibility for your
browser. Using Javasoft's Activator or appletviewer should resolve
that.

1. I have been able to make my Java client appllication call-in to a
Forte service object with success. However the tricky part beginswhen
I try to do the same with a Java applet. I get an exception returned
which is an AppletSecurityException. I understand that running a Java
applet in a browser has two limitations, one being the Java applet
sandbox and the firewall restriction. As I am only running my Java
applet and the Forte service object on the same node, this rules out
the latter.
I have tried running the Gatekeeper from the same directory as myJava
client application, which includes all the client stub files
(including stub files which are generated from Forte supplier plans
such as those in the Framework folder). However, I still receive the
AppletSecurityException.
How can I go about making this operation successful?
**AppletSecurityExceptions can be caused by many problems--trying toaccess
machines other than the class download machine, or trying to accessserver
side classes outside the defined directory structure in the webserver. I'd
look closely at the classes that are being brought into memory (forexample,
Visibroker's ORB shows you each file as it is loaded) and make sureyour web
server is defined correctly. If you follow the Forte technotesclosely, it
usually solves this problem.
2. Has anyone tried implementing a 'fat' client, one that combines a
Forte web application, JavaScript, and a Java applet client toperform
operations such as validation and a tiny bit of data processing allon
the client side, relieveing the application server from such
operations? If yes, how do I implement the solution, and are thereany
tech notes from Forte that specifically tell me how to do this?
**We have created a Java framework that follows many of the designpatterns
and naming conventions as our Forte framework. The Java classes canbe
extended to marshal and unmarshal scalar data structs passed acrossthe ORB
boundary to instantiate 'thick' functional objects on the client, andas much
processing and as many business rules as wanted can be developed inthe
client
Java objects. If you look at the exception information in the iiop manual it
discusses exteneded propties DefaultThrowsClause, ThrowsClause and
IsThrowable.
If you mark your exception class with IsThrowable it will show up in the
IDL as an exception. If you use either DefaultThrowsClause(project) or
ThrowsClause(method) you will get the appropriate raises in the idl.
This will cause the idl2java to produce code which will allow you to catch
the exception.

Hi all,
I am currently working to an architecture to establish a communication
between a Forte' server and a Java client, using Visigenic's Visibroker and
IDL mode.
I have problems when I try to raise a Forte' exception from a method
invoked by the Java client; I would like the exception class
(ProductException) not to inherit from the class GenericException, because
the IDL I want to generate must have this structure:
exception ProductException {
string message;
Using this solution, the client application gets blocked waiting forever.
I am currently working with:
- Forte' 3.0.G.2 plus WebEnterprise 1.0.B
- JDK 1.1.5
- Visibroker 3.1
My question is: is it possible to raise an exception from the Forte' side
that is
compliant to the IDL mentioned above?
Of course it should be caught from the Java side.
Thank you in advance

ABAP mapping
ABAP mappings run on ABAP Stack and are developed in the ABAP workbench of the Integration Server.
You normally do not need to use the ABAP mappings and is preferable for someone with ABAP programming background. I should say JAVA functions would suffice any complex scenarios.

XSLT Mapping
XSLT stands for EXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations. It is an XML based language for transforming XML documents into any other formats suitable for browser to display, on the basis of set of well-defined rules.

Steps required for developing XSLT Mapping
u2022 Create a source data type and a target data type
u2022 Create Message types for the source and target data types.
u2022 Create Message Interfaces includes Inbound Message interface and Outbound Message interface.
u2022 XSLT Mapping does not require creation of Message mapping, so donu2019t create any Message mapping.
u2022 Create an .XSL file which converts source data type into target data type.
u2022 Zip that .xsl file and import it into Integration Repository under Imported Archives.
u2022 In Interface Mapping choose mapping program as XSL and specify this zip program. (Through search help you will get XSL Mapping programs that you imported under Imported Archives, select your corresponding XSL Program)
u2022 Test this mapping program by navigating to Test tab.
By having look at above steps you can easily find out that this mapping is no where different from other mapping programs, here the challenging lies in creating an XSLT file. If you spend couple of minutes in studying XPATH tutorial you would be in ideal position to create an XSL Transformation (.xsl extension).
If you still find difficulties in generating XSL Transformation, then you can make use of a tool u201CAltova MapForceu201D which will create XSL file for you.
Steps for creating XSL file using this tool:
1. Open the Alto MapForce, import the source .xml and .xsd file in it
2. Similarly import the target .xml and .xsd in MapForce.
3. These two data files should match with source and target data types in Integration Repository.
4. Complete the graphical mapping using extensive list of XSLT functions available there.
5. Save the mapping file.
6. Click the XSLT tab. You will have the entire xslt logic there.
7. Copy that content and save it as .xsl file.
8. Zip above .xsl file and import the same into IR under Imported Archives.
Hope this clears your doubts

Java and MS-Access: Login Authentication trough SQL
Hi all,
I am currently new to the world of java and would like to ask something for a school project.
We have an MS-Access database setup which we want to use as an login-database.
We can select from the tables in the database using a standard SQL query, and print out the output, but we do not know how to combine the java-string "UserID" and "Corrpass" field to compare them with the database to check if the entered login is correct.
I know this question is a little bit on the SQL side, but could you please help me? The code for printing out Usernames was founfdon the bottom of this webpage:
http://www.ster.be/java/java6.html
Our Microsoft Access Database Layout:
MS-Access Database
Table: Users
| UserID -AutoNumber : UserID (Login code)
| Corrpass -text :The Correct Password for the above UserID
| UserVoornaam -text : First name
| UserAchternaam -text : Surname
