  • Deploying Oracle Express and Java Application in one installation

Is there a way to deploy a Java application using Oracle express as the back end in one installation? So in other words, rather than installing oracle express separately from the application, we are looking to install from one executable including both the java application and all the necessary components for oracle express to run.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Hello,
you can install the database using a response file. Depending on the installer of your Java application you could create a kind of meta-installer that creates a response file for the database as well as one response/parameter file for your application installer and hence run both in one step.
See the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18802/toc.htm#BABCCGCF]corresponding section of the Installation Guide for details on the response file.

While trying to give the profile path of the CI, in the application server installation, it says that the path cannot be found. The DB (SQL 2008R2)is running on a different host in a distributed setup.
Could  someone please let us know if any other port needs to be open to allow communication between the central instance and application server?

Please request your network team to open firewal between CI and APP server otherwise, even if you install you might get other below access problems

  • Tool for building a java application's installer

I'm searching for a tool for creating an installer for a java application. Just found InstallAnywhere... It looks very attractive, but it costs... was wondering if is there anything free.

Well to be brutally honest, I think you'd be better off sticking with Flash if this is a critical project... it would be a great exercise for learning Java, but would probably take w-a-y-y-y-y-y more effort than doing a similar multimedia presentation in flash.
(I haven't used Director, so can only talk about Flash here) - as you know, Flash is really a very powerful authoring tool that allows the user to do very complex animations very easily, whereas Java is a lower-level programming language that is infinitely more flexible, but comparatively more developer-intensive when it comes to producing user interface stuff. Java might be a viable option if you have to do stuff that flash can't, like very complex interactivity, or pulling info from a database etc (although maybe Flash 5 can even talk to databases now??? I don't know)
You can get tools to help you build Java user interfaces using "drag & drop" methods, and these tools will automatically generate the code for you, but (a) this means you're not really learning java, and (b) flash would still be less labor-intensive (and probably more impressive to your end users)
In summary - I'm not knocking Java or Flash - I love 'em both; it's just that Flash is better suited for certain things, and Java is better suited for others...
PS - nice website, but Portfolios shouldn't have an apostrophe before the "s" ;-)

  • Installer for JAVA application and JVM

    Hi all,
I want to install a java application(server side). I used free version of InstallAnywhere to do this before. But since my installer may need more complicated operations, like search the registery and detect if they have installed the JVM and Tomcat. if not, suggest them to install, etc. My company do not have the enterprise version of InstallAnywhere, but the InstallShields.
I am not sure which tool I should use for such installer, InstallShield or InstallAnywhere/ or any other suggestions?
    jing

I find this link as a good source to know what programs there are for a given tool:
    http://sys-con.com/java/readerschoice2002/
Click on the "Best Java Installation Tool" link, and check if any of those programs can do what you need.
InstallShield and InstallAnywhere seems to be the most used programs.

  • Report Engine SDK - Rbean usage in standalone java application

In BOXI the rebean sdk is available in the Report Engine SDK.
I remember that in the 6.5 world one could use RBEAN interface in a standalone java application.
Is this still possible in BOXI R2?
If yes can you supply a sample classpath which shows all libraries that needs to be assigned.
    Thanks in advance.

Ted's right, but for fun, take what you need from:
    <installation drive>:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\lib
and de-reference what's not needed when your project's done, but be careful.
I've actually done some standalone Swing-based webi report renderers using https://xhtmlrenderer.dev.java.net/ + docHTMLView.getStringpart + TagSoup

  • Embedding video in Java Application

I'm a total newbie, trying to decide if Java is the way to go for our application.
We want to be able to create an interactive application with buttons, drag & drop, data input fields, hot spots, etc
AND also show video... windows format, apple format, flash format.
We want our application to be deployable either as...
1 - a standalone app... running on a system not on a network or the internet
    2 - a web app
We want the video player to be embedded in the application and not launch a player in a seperate window... thus we want to maintain as much control within the confines of our application as possible.
    MY QUESTIONS:
1 - Will the Java Media Framework allow us to embed movies in our application as described?
2 - Is it fairly easy to code such in our Java application?
3 - Any code snippets around?
4 - Re: Standalone/CD distribution version: Can the JMF be installed along with the application so the client doesn't have to "go out and install more stuff" ??
5 - Re: Web - must the user download and install more stuff... other than the Java Virtual Machine to have the JMF work on their system?
6 - Is the JMF multi-platform... Windows, Apple, Unix/Linux, etc like the JVM ?
thanks for any help on this. Will

Yes all of what you require is doable in Java
    Try
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/index.html
    Check some of these samples
Also for a web version check
    http://java.sun.com/dev/evangcentral/totallytech/jmf2.html
(Haven't studied this myself - but should give you an idea or two)
    Platform-wise - check here
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/download.html
In terms of CD distribution - you should be able to package most stuff into a Jar file
Not completely sure as there are 'Windows Performance pack' downloads which I think toake advantage of native DLLs
Have a read around the JMF Installation pages - should answer most of your questions

  • To launch a java application in Windows environment

    hello,
I need to distribute one stand alone application, that I made using NetBeans, for sale it.
I know that this is not a so simple problem, because delivering the program to one client you cannot simlpy say him to launch the jar file....
I saw that, in the Windows environment, program like eclipse or netBeans run thruogth an .exe file, that I think is a program that its purpose is to define the java environment for the application in the particular host operative environment .
Perhaps they are corporations like InstallShield (now Macrovision) that sale programs to solve this type of problems..., and I already used this type of programs to install some my
applications that I coded in languages different than java.
But before to look for one of them, I should like have more informations how this problem fits in java language, knowing that java is different to other languages because use JRE and have proper tools, how JWS and JNPL, that concern with this problem.
...Looking in the forum I had not much help..., but I saw that someone uses to write launchers program in different language, like C, as well I had not so much detailled instructions about how to do it.
In order to solve my problem I should like have, from some one that already made it, some general information about how he realized the commercial installation of java applications in the most used Operatve Systems (particullary Windows), and possibly to have links to web sites for good explanations, including advantages to buy apposite commercials installation programs too.
    thank you very much
    tonyMrsangelo

You can distribute it as an executable JAR so users will run it by double clicking. The would be required to have JRE installed.
You can distribute it online via WebStart. Users need JRE but it's easier to manage updates and distribution of new versions.
You can distribute it with AjaxSwing, a product that deploys Swing applications as AJAX websites so you don't need JRE at all.
You can create EXE files using many of the products available. Google for it and you'll get lots of hits.

  • Just finished my first Java application. What's next?

Thanks to the kind help from everyone on this forum and some intensive labor for the last couple of months, I've finally given birth to my first Java application. I used Netbeans as my IDE of choice. During the development stages I would run my project directly from the IDE. In the project folder, a total of five folders were created: build, dist, nbproject, src, and test as well as two files build.xml and manifest.mf.
Being a newbie in this field, I was wondering about the remaining steps needed to distribute the application. Here are some questions that come to mind:
    1) I know I can simply just double-click the project's *.jar* file to get it work. Is that the norm with Java applications or do I need to create a different file? I'm used to seeing *.exe* files. I'm also used to seeing an installation process, which brings me to my next question.
    2) Do you simply just zip the entire project folder and allow people to download it on their computer hoping they know how to access the *.jar* file?
    3) Seeing that I've only been testing the application in Netbeans, will there be file path or classpath problems if I run it on other computers? Are there necessary steps I need to follow to avoid such problems?
    4) Do you take any precautionary steps to protect your code? Do you lock the folders?
    5) In the future, if I decide to add a small fee to download the application, how hard would it be to add a password activation feature? (I know this could get pretty complex)
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

I'm used to seeing *.exe* files. I'm also used to seeing an installation process, which brings me to my next question. It's quite common to provide a shell script (batch file, etc) to launch the app.
    2) Do you simply just zip the entire project folder and allow people to download it on their computer hoping they know how to access the *.jar* file? You can do. There are also installation utilities around. InstallAnywhere is the only one I've ever used, but others do exist.
    3) Seeing that I've only been testing the application in Netbeans, will there be file path or classpath problems if I run it on other computers? Are there necessary steps I need to follow to avoid such problems?Probably. The best way to avoid them is to test them, and to not ever depend on the CLASSPATH environment variable. That's a portability nightmare.
    4) Do you take any precautionary steps to protect your code? Do you lock the folders? Nope.
    5) In the future, if I decide to add a small fee to download the application, how hard would it be to add a password activation feature? (I know this could get pretty complex) Don't bother. Unless you've got something amazing, in which case you'll be needing lawyers, it's not worth the trouble of charging for it. No offence, but your first Java app is hardly going to set the world on fire anyway.
No matter what you try and do to stop people stealing your code, they'll manage it. Or, alternatively, just steal your idea instead.

  • How to remove Java Applications from "Add and Remove Programs" list?

I have deployed my Java applications (both JWS and Applet) via JNLP with allow-offline option enabled and without installer-desc option specified.
    My questions are:
    1. An entry is added to the Add and Remove Programs list after launching the application via JNLP. Is it due to the specification of JNLP or JWS? Is there anyway to prevent this behavior?
    2. I removed my application by clearing the cache via Java Control Panel but the entry for the application is still listed in Add and Remove Programs. How can I remove the entry in the Add and Remove Programs?
I have tried following methods but neither works:
1.Go to Add and Remove Programs, and click [remove] button to the right of my application.
*Warning message like 'Application cannot be uninstalled completely' is thrown.
2.Follow instructions listed @ [Microsoft Online Support site|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481/en-us] to remove my application manually via Windows registry.
*Couldn't find appropriate registry entry to delete.
    Thanks in advance!
